During the planning stage of our visit to Prague, I researched restaurants local to our hotel and…read morechose Mincovna in old town. Despite our reservation, the place seemed relatively empty. We are early diners and the only couple near us were also Americans on holiday. Our server spoke excellent English and guided us through the menu choices. After an appetizer of tomatoes and cucumbers in a light dressing, I ordered the sirloin in cream and my wife the trout filet. The food, like the service, was superb. Our server surprised us with a complimentary "shot" of a very strong Czeck liqueur at the end of the meal. we had a grand time and hope you will too!!

Nonetheless, I entered and hope for an escape from the unforgiving sun on that day. The staff seated me at one of the booths and after I requested some information explaining the menu and what's popular, they were more than happy to assist. They even explained some local etiquette and so on which was perfect for a visitor like myself. I decided to try out their Pickled Cheese as an appetizer. The cheese, paired with the onion salad and bagel was great. I really didn't know if I was eating it correctly but still delicious. For the main course, my waiter recommended a Schnitzel with potato salad. Just to get it out of the way, but the potato salad was almost better than anything I've had in the United States. I thought we were doing it right until I spent one day in Prague. The Schnitzel was also delicious. Perfect with the salad, the provided a blend of flavor and substance I desperately needed. All in all, this place was a great experience in Prague. The staff could not have been anymore nicer as I left with an itinerary on what to do during my time in Prague. The food and service were great. Don't be fooled by the location and stop by if you're in Old Square.

FOOD The pork…read moreshoulder is massive, absolutely massive. It's also incredibly juice, and they skin tastes wonderful. I cannot stress this enough, the dish was great! The beer goulash on the other hand was interesting and hearty. I wouldn't classify it as wonderful, but decent, with sizable chunks of meat in there. Overall, the food was good, and worth the visit. RESTAURANT As is typical in Prague, water is expensive, and often more expensive that sodas or alcohols. I got a chuckle out of seeing things like whiskey being the same price as water. We got two ciders, which were absolutely delicious. The service was also friendly, which was nice. The decor is interesting, and the seating quite comfortably spaced out. ADVICE One thing - if you plan on using your credit card, I do recommend that you tell them to use the local currency, CZK, when charging the card. I'm not sure why they decided to go with USD without asking me, as it literally offers zero benefits to a foreigner, and all the negatives. For those wondering, if you have a card that doesn't waive foreign transaction fees, using USD doesn't prevent your card from charging the fees. The fee is for foreign transactions, not foreign currency. If you have a card that waives those fees, you're obviously losing out by charging to USD, as the exchange rate is awful.

Kantyna is definitely not a place for herbivores. Vegans will tear this place down. It is a very…read moremeat-heavy restaurant. Located in Old Town Prague, this place was highly recommended by many. They do not take reservations, so seating is first come, first serve. There are two ways to dine at this place. The first is that you make it to their hot food station where food is already cooked. You then pick the meat and side dishes you want and then they will charge you based on the weight of the food. The second is that you go to their butcher station (located at the entrance of the restaurant), pick a piece of their cut (steak or pork), and they will cook it right there for you along with the side dishes you picked. Beer can be ordered on the inside too as they have a brewery station. You eat first and then you pay before you leave. I opted for the second option and got a piece of bone-in steak. My two side dishes were grilled potatoes and vegetables. The steak was delicious, potato was cooked very well, vegetables were a little bit oily but overall acceptable. I think the quality of their steak was great, but I also wouldn't say it was the best steak I've had. Prague food in general is cheap, but this whole meal was about $60 for me, so pretty pricy by Prague standard. Of note, they do have unlimited bread, but there is no butter, so another small let down for me. Service was kinda non-existent. Other than the server coming over to deliver my food, I've never seen him ever again. I managed to hunt him down for a piece of napkin, but that took more effort than me trying to stuff down my last piece of the steak. Overall I would come here again. The steak is good, but not amazing. The price by Prague-standard is high, but by US-standard is normal.

The food is definitely catered to European tastebuds (e.g. no Hoisin sauce and spinach instead of basil/mint--these are all forgivable since they're typically add-ons, but I usually see that as a staple), but the integrity in the taste is very much still there. My family and I only had pho as it was the winter season and we were catching colds. The broth is still pretty rich and they are generous with the amount of meat and noodles. We all got large bowls and ate them clean. As stated in other reviews, the restaurant is a bit hard to find, but if you follow the signs in the hallways, you'll find your way. I would say it's worth the mini adventure. The place is very clean and the food is not overpriced. The people there are very nice and accommodating. Like most workers in service, they are fluent in English.

It wasn't what we expected, it was much better. Their tum yum soup was basically Laksa, which is one of my favorite dishes. I wish I could have ordered that in a larger bowl with the noodles in them.... This restaurant does everything Vietnamese, Chinese and yes Sushi. This is a theme in almost all Asian restaurants in Europe. The place was empty when we got here (around 7:45pm), service was quick and food came out quickly, which was appreciated.

Other rooms had more of a forest theme. Evidently this is a popular place. I didn't make a reservation, but they told me I could have a table for 1h15 which was plenty of time since the service was timely. I had the grilled broccoli with Jerusalem artichoke puree for my entree and the "snickers" bar for dessert. The broccoli dish was simple but tasty and surprisingly filling for a plate of nothing besides cooked vegetables. The broccoli and carrot were cooked perfectly with crispy caramelized edges and the artichoke puree was delicious. I wouldn't really recommend this dish for anyone skeptical about vegetarian/vegan food, but it's great if you love vegetables, and there are other dishes on the menu that will appeal to those who want something more substantial. I initially didn't plan on dessert but was glad I decided to get something because the snickers bar was delightful. I also had a beetroot lemonade that I enjoyed. It's a little expensive, but I felt like I got what you paid for both in the quality of the food and overall experience.
