Kelly was a great trainer/teacher, not only for our lab mix Willa, but for my husband & me! All 3 of us learned a lot during the 5 hours we spent at Green Dog Training. From techniques to use to get her to "stay;" to how to get her to not jump on others; to which reasonably priced dog products are the best, our sessions were always productive. Out of about 50 reviews on here, this is my 2nd 1*. I think I have one other 2* and one 3*. I have 2 dogs, with previous dog training experience. After a fiasco with other dogs at a family reunion (no dogs were harmed), my 5 year old dogs' socialization fell apart. I reached out to Green Dog Training in hopes of professional guidance. First, I called and left a message on Sat. I didn't anticipate a call back until Mon, so I found their FB page and sent a very long message. It was my hopes that, prior to calling me, they would read the message and have a clear understanding of what to anticipate. I tried to be as detailed as possible regarding my dogs, their history, their experience, and what I identified to be issues. I received an automated response that I would likely get a reply within a day. I received a call on Mon. The call from Carl was very brief since I got sick. I told him about my FB message. He admitted that Kelly handles FB messaging, but that he'll go ahead and have Kelly respond to me there. After hanging up, I sent a thank you note via FB for giving me a call. I received another automated reply that I would receive a response within the day. I did not receive a response that day or the next morning. I called the next afternoon. I had a 20 minute talk with Carl. He was nice, listened attentively, and asked questions. He again apologized that I did not receive a response, but would help me in the meantime. I summarized my concern (socialization). I was advised to consider private lessons, $500, 5 weeks, 1x/wk. Carl mentioned the lessons were probably my best bet so that I could be trained how to handle my dogs in such anxiety-inducing situations. I was notified a consultation was free and would take between 30-45 minutes. I was asked to bring vaccination records and treats as they train on a "lure" system (using treats to entice dogs to do the good behaviors). I scheduled for today, July 5th, for a 2:30 pm appointment. Today, I called 3 hours (11:30 am) before my appointment to confirm. The call wasn't answered so I left a voicemail. I did not get a call back. The consultation lasted less than 10 min. While clean office, lots of barking could be heard which immediately put my dogs on alert. She asked me why I brought my dogs. I'm thinking calls and FB messages, as well as communication between Kelly and Carl should have taken place so there shouldn't be more I need to say. I explained anyway. During consultation, Bella normally whines for people to pet her and thus I was very alarmed when both of my dogs were very shy towards Kelly. Neither were enticed by her treats either. I was rather surprised we were leaving the dogs leashed for socialization evaluation as other trainers warned me of leash aggression. She said that it is only sometimes true and that a leash can actually be calming because it lets them know I am there. The first dog she brought in immediately began barking. Hope returned the barks. My dogs ducked behind me until Bella tried to venture forth to greet. Bella returned to behind me when she reached end of her leash. She swapped the dog out for a quieter one. My dogs are already stressed out. Bella tried to greet the next dog, which barked at her approach and ducked behind Kelly. Those dogs were the "assessment" of my dogs' socialization. We then proceeded to show what commands my dogs know. After I tried to reassure them while the barking could still be heard, we went through sit, stay, down, come, look, touch, and off. They struggled with the distraction, which Kelly attributed to poor behavior on their part. After that, I was advised private lessons would be my best bet (already knew that), but to do basic obedience training for the same skills my dogs demonstrated (except heel as we didn't try to show her that in an office) but "not well." I was told distractions would be added after, but that they "needed a solid foundation first." Frustrated by the two different messages I am getting between Kelly and Carl, Kelly relied on her authority "as the owner" about how they do things there. I thanked her for her time, but it was a complete waste of mine. read more

I've left this same review on Google but know some folks only rely on Yelp. We have a rescue who has gotten progressively more fearful and aggressive as he's gotten older despite being in a loving home. We did Green Dog's 3 week "board and train" program at the recommendation of the animal behaviorist we work with. Kelly was kind and very knowledgeable, first evaluating him in person then suggesting an overnight weekend before making a commitment to do the program. She felt she could help him so we did the program and ended up needing to leave him there an extra week due to a family emergency. When we got him back he was much calmer, and much more tolerant of strangers and other dogs. I could tell he was well treated because he ran between Kelly and me when seeing me the first time, checking in with both of us to let us know how happy he was. As Kelly warned, he's not "fixed" but she showed us some of the things we were doing that were reinforcing his fears (such as trying to soothe him vs just being calm and assertive) and he's a much happier dog. As an update to this review, I'll add that while I live inside the loop in Houston, I still bring my dog all the way up there to board him when we are going to be out of town. I have tried to board him elsewhere that's closer, but when I picked him up he looks fearful and they say he hasn't eaten much. Every time I have left him with Kelly, I can see that he's happy and healthy. One of those times, Kelly brought a little dog out with him whom he had been playing with and getting along well. I found out that they had rescued this other dog off the side of the road and were fostering him. When I asked if they would consider letting us adopt him, Kelly said she was actually thinking of adopting him herself. We did end up adopting him and both our other dog and the humans in the house couldn't love him more. read more

If you need a place to board your dogs this is my choice. Out in the country on a quiet gorgeous piece of land they are small so avoid the chaos of most boarding facilities. I have also had my dog trained there and it was a very positive experience. read more

This is the Best dog training around. Ms Green is great with the dogs. She trained our Blue Heeler about 13 yrs ago and now she has done our Texas Blue Lacy/Red Heeler mix 10 month old puppies and did awesome. They are Very hard to handle. Ms Green is Awesome. The training my dogs received at Green Dog was very helpful. I had two rescue Chihuahuas and one was a very nervous little dog that had been abandoned and had trust issues. After the training, he did much better and was house broken. Today when I take the little guy in, he is so excited to see the trainers. This tells me that he is very happy with them. I adopted a 3 year old toy poodle Dink that was a street dog for my 93 year old father. The dog had not lived in a house and had absolutely no training. I tried for 3 months and couldn't even get him to come when I called or walk on a leash. After 3 weeks of training at Green Dog Training he is a different dog. I couldn't be happier and my dad now has a wonderful companion that sits in his lap and sleeps with him.
