    Molly after grooming!

We can not say enough positive things about Almost Home Pet Retreat. From their amazing staff that lives on your fur baby as their own to the great communication from ownership. We were sent photos of Molly & Milo and could see first hand what an awesome time they were having. We were lucky and got into Wendy the groomer while they were staying and she also did a wonderful job with their cut. All around five stars!! Great experience and Great care by Great people.

Highly recommend Almost Home for boarding, we've used them twice now and very pleased with the service. They were so kind and welcoming, Grizzly took to them immediately and he was very happy when we picked him up. They sent us pictures during his stay and we love how they have an open yard, with lots of outside time!

Happy dogs playing at the retreat:)

So happy that we discovered this place! First of all, the place has new owners as of June of 2018 so all older reviews do not apply and really have to be removed for accuracy. New owners are also volunteers in Operation Pets alive and truly love dogs and know how to take great care of them. Almost Home Pet Retreat is a fun place for dogs of all sizes and there are no up charges for playtime outside. It's just like have your dogs at home. With Almost Home Pet Resort we had no worries and could see from the photo updates that our dogs were happy and well cared for. The pictures spoke for themselves! We are confident to leave our dogs whenever we go out of town long- or short-term whereas previously it was always an issue. The best place to board your dog(s) worry-free!

My dog spent the weekend here and came back very happy and in one piece. The facility is large and the staff is nice.

From the moment you walk in, it is apparent that all aspects of this business are top notch. Mr. Chris Hernandez is the on-site full time trainer. He offers several different training packages to match your needs and budget. We elected to do the board and train an intensive 3 week basic obedience class. Is it possible for the average person to train their own dog? Absolutely...but getting professional help from Chris will let you and your dog achieve far better results and much faster. I was able to teach my dog to sit, come and stay without professional help but what Chris does is take it to the next level...After three weeks with Chris, our 4 month old puppy is far more obedient than 98% of the adult dogs in our neighborhood. For example. I taught her to come (most of the time, especially with a treat or promise of affection), Chris taught her to come reliably...off leash...with distractions...at distance. Now she comes when I want her to not when she feels like it but its more accurate to say, she always wants to come when called. I taught her to sit on command...Chris taught her to sit until told otherwise - in our case, our 4 month old puppy will sit patiently in place for 45-60 minutes until she is released and it's taking basic commands to the next level of perfection that builds trust in the dog. Getting a dog to sit patiently, allows nervous strangers to come over, allows for me to accomplish chores without fending off the dog's playing and generally makes life for both of us easier and more rewarding. Necessary skills for times when distractions and failure to obey correctly and immediately could have dire consequences such as when you need to avoid an aggressive dog, you're dog ("SQUIREL!") gets loose and is near a street, you are hiking off leash and come across a deer. In addition to commands, Chris takes your dog to all sorts of places to experience new smells, sights and sounds and conditions your dog to behave when there are other animals, strange people. Take those examples and apply that level of conditioning to every command. Additionally, he teaches your dog, house and car manners and the sum total of all this training makes you more inclined to take your dog more places and have fun together safely. Is training cheap? No, but amortized over the life of the dog - well worth it. How do you put a price on obedience? I don't know but you can start with avoiding the cost of a Vet bill after being hit by a car because your dog didn't listen. (Pro-tip: If you board and train, you get free tech support for the life of the dog and when you board your dog and PR@SR, Chris will work with your dog as a refresher and address any little problems that come up after graduating the basic class.) After your dog has been taught, Chris teaches you how to continue reinforcing the commands and not sabotaging yourself or the training when you get home. If you are on the fence, call the Vet and ask to speak with Chris - he will make an appointment and you can get your dog evaluated for free, very laid back, no pressure - he'll just answer your questions and tell you how he can help.

Upon arrival, we were required to pay a $700 deposit before our cat was even evaluated. After payment, he was taken to the back, but instead of immediate treatment, we were instructed to call an animal poison control hotline ourselves which also required an additional fee. We were not informed that the clinic would also charge an even higher fee to consult with poison control. We spent about an hour on hold with poison control while our cat waited in distress. After completing lot of paperwork, He was treated with antibiotics and anti nausea medication, we were sent home with just antibiotics, despite the fact that he was still experiencing severe labored breathing. The breathing issues continued throughout the night. The next day, Dr. Goodyear called and said she regretted not administerina a steroid to help his night. The next day, Dr. Goodyear called and said she regretted not administering a steroid to help his breathing. We returned immediately to pick it up. Tragically it was too late, after giving the first dose at home, our cat vomited, began convulsing, and passed away. We later took him to another veterinary clinic for a necropsy and were told that the prolonged respiratory distress likely led to cardiac arrest. We are very heartbroken. We brought our cat in for urgent care and trusted that he would receive immediate, appropriate treatment. Instead, we feel critical time was lost, and key decisions were delayed. And unfortunately our beloved cats life was cut short.

When we discovered that our nine-year-old spaniel was bleeding from her mouth, we monitored her for an hour or so to see if it subsided. After all, it was a Sunday and our regular vet wasn't open. When the bleeding continued, with it occasionally being pretty significant, I jumped on my vet's website to see what emergency clinics they recommend. Emergency Pet Care of Texas was one of two listed, and since I'd had an extremely negative experience with the one that is actually closer to me, I made the nearly 40-minute drive up to Magnolia to have her checked out. Sign in was smooth and not overly detailed (not asking a lot of what I deem as unnecessary questions). Wait time was minimal. Tech tended to her relatively quickly, and by this time much of the bleeding had subsided greatly. Still wanted her to see a vet, which she did shortly. Vet was thorough and didn't recommend any additional testing or examination because by the time she saw the vet, all bleeding had stopped. If it had not, it would have indicated something more severe: rat poison or sago palm ingestion, for example. But since that did not appear to be the case, we were instructed to watch her, keep her quiet with minimal exercise and see our regular vet the next day when they were open if the bleeding began again. I appreciate that EPCT was not overly aggressive in trying to treat what turned out to be a minor nick on her gum line that apparently caused the bleeding (mouth bleeds can be pretty traumatic initially, I was told, but they do subside within an hour or two if it's nothing serious). Other emergency vet clinics usually jump on "needed testing" which results in sometimes exorbitant charges that prove nothing at all (I'm speaking from experience). The techs and the vet calmed my fears, assessed my dog for potential dire conditions and sent us on our way. Easy to locate, ample parking, nice waiting area, friendly attendants, techs and vet experience. Charges were extremely fair. Wait time for us was short, but understand they do triage incoming cases so wait times can be extended due to severity of emergency. Definitely recommended, since they only treat emergency cases (rather than continuing, routine care of pets), so they are clearly prepped for that. While it was a drive to get here from where we live, it was worth it knowing I wouldn't need to cash in my 401(k) for my dog to be seen on a Sunday.
