We had an amazing time here!!! My husband and I both grew up in the city so this was our first time at a real ranch. Everyone was really friendly, and they helped us feel at ease with the horses. I even learned how to tie a lose knot and how to brush my horse. When you get here, the ranch is huge but the directions are really clear about where to go and what to do. When you sign up for the ride they ask you questions about your experience with horses and use that to pair you with the best horse. For those who have none and have never been on a horse this is a great place to start. The staff are really knowledgeable about horses and are great at teaching you how to ride and control the horse. Also, the horses are highly trained for years and years so riding them is very easy and safe. The ranch itself is gorgeous with amazing views!! This event happened about three years ago but I thought I would share my experience. I have quite a bit of experience riding horses, but I hadn't ridden in a while so I decided to go there for a lesson. At the beginning of the lesson the horse they gave me to ride was taken to the round pen to exercise out some of his energy, which I thought was kind of odd. Then I was told to get on the horse. As soon as I swung my leg over the saddle to mount the horse, he started bucking. I ended up behind the saddle sitting on the horse's rump struggling to stay seated but then finally went flying off. I was really surprised that I was given a horse like that because this was the first time I had ever been there. I tried to get on again and the horse tried to buck again. Someone grabbed his head and I was finally able to get on the horse. After that he was fine but I had some massive bruises the next day. I think Green Acres needs to have better trained horses. read more

First I'd like to mention that this review is for my first and last visit here at Green Acres Ranch. This place is not a ranch I'd bring or refer my friends or family members to visit. I found out about this place through Groupon and after carefully reviewing reviews about this place. My group and I found a great deal on trail rides at this place and I guess the saying you get what you pay for summarizes this place. I'd like to also add that I had never rode a horse before and made it a point to share this information to the staff not once but on multiple occasion's during our visit. Somehow I got paired up with a horse by the name of "Bartender" who was considered to be a 50/50 horse. I'm not sure what the thinking was behind pairing me up with this horse but I had quite a horrible and scary experience (see posted photos). The horse was pretty wild and raced me into stables to eat hay on multiple occasions (I had to duck quite a few times on whim). I think that the deal breaker for me was when the horse surprisingly decided to storm to a bush and rammed me into a tree and I was hanging about to fall off the horse. I left this place with a ripped pant, scrapes on my wrist and quite a few cuts and bruises on my legs. **A note to the owner of this place - Safety should be strictly enforced at this place and staff should not allow beginner riders to ride on any wild horses. read more

My brother and I had such a great time! I was partnered up with Molly while my brother was partnered up with Sasha! Our ranch ride started at 9-10am and the heat was not as bad around that hour. Sounded like the two tour/ ride guides usually do about six riders each time. Tips are very important for the guides. I would recommend doing the 7am one of you live in the area. And if you got the winery voucher with your ranch ride, note that the winery doesn't open till 11am. _____________________________________________ The back story... we had a serious heat wave in CA about 2 weeks ago and it was crazy hot!!! Email: "Good afternoon, We regret to inform you but we will be experiencing a heatwave this weekend and we might have to cancel our afternoon ride. If you would like to reschedule your ride for another day or for earlier in the morning please give our office a call at 951-302-6045. Thank you, Shannon Ranch Ride Manager" After about multiple phone calls and two voice messages, brother was told that we would get a call back, which we never did! So we drove out there (about 45 minutes ride on the fwy) and trust me that I regretted that I didn't call ahead of time. The people in the office had no idea that the rides were cancelled, so we waited around for about 40 minutes to find out that the ranch ride wasn't going to happen. They compensated us with wine tasting vouchers to the winery about 1 mile down the street from them and rescheduled us for the following weekend. read more

Wow was I looking forward to the group trail ride we booked! Coordinating things for a group can be a pickle sometimes. Needless to say, our group was excited for their trail ride this past weekends. Upon arriving we followed the signs as instructed in the directions they emailed us. We found the place quite easily. The parking area was fairly full but we got a spot. Little did we know there was an event going on, when we departed it was completely full and a bit difficult to maneuver out. Pricing: Our group purchased a Groupon so cost wise it was dirt cheap. Regardless of the Groupon the rates seemed reasonable. Location: A typical horse stable, the area was large but our group did not get to see much of it. We had a party of 6 for horseback riding and unfortunately one in our party had an unexpected ride she was not expecting. I understand things happen, but when we were informed the horse she was riding is usually 50/50 when it comes to allowing others (not employees) to ride him that leaves a lot to question. Why would you put someone on a horse that is 50/50? The answer we got was that due to the event the horses they usually use for trail rides were unavailable. For this alone, I cannot give more than three stars. Safety should always be priority. My friend left with a tear in her pant, scrape on face, hand, and good sized mark on her leg (may scar). She was a great sport about the situation day of but woke up with bruising and swelling the next day. I'd also like to mention due to the event going on the ride was shorter and the route usually taken could not be. The workers mentioned trail rides would be discontinued is January and I think that's a great idea. Safety should always be priority. I cannot recommend this place, and will not return. read more

I've always wanted to go horseback riding, so I did some research and came across Green Acres Ranch in Temecula. I think this is a great place to start off if you haven't been on a horse before. My group had two awesome guides, Stephanie and Alexis. They were very helpful and friendly. My horse's name was Leo, one of the bigger and taller horses, and super easy to ride. My friend got to ride Jackson, another beautiful horse who loves to eat everything. The trail was about 45 minutes, the first 15 minutes were spent getting to know your horse and feeling secure and comfortable on the saddle. Our instructors (guides) showed us how to steer our horses to go right and left. Toward the end of the trail, there was a really nice scenic spot where our guides were able to take some pictures of us riding on our horses. Once we got off of our horse, the staff gave us some nice, cold watermelon, it tasted so perfect and refreshing. I definitely recommend the Green Acres Ranch, so if you're in the area, come stop by! read more

Green acres Ranch is very close to my friends house. So when I go out there I call and ask if I can volunteer for the day . They have this cool program called gate which is for special needs kids They have like about 150 horses there of all kinds. Everybody was super sweet and very friendly . If your Into anything horse this is a place for you ,something for everyone here. I love that they also have cows about six dogs running around turtles and some chicken ! What a wonderful experience! My fiancée and I found this trail ride through Groupon and purchased the trail ride for two package. Booking was super easy and their expectations for you as a guest were super clear. Stephanie and Mikayla were our trail guides today and they were amazing. Stephanie is hilarious and Mikayla is really laid back. They did great job explaining the horse commands to us and the other people in the group. Okay, I consider myself a very advanced rider. However, when I put my BF on my fancy, dressage sporthorse--it didn't end so well. So I thought to myself, how could I get my BF to enjoy the sport that I am so passionate about? Well, three words: wine and horses. So I booked a trail ride for two through Groupon. At first, I was scared that the ranch would be rude to me bc I purchased a Groupon, but they couldn't be sweeter. And it was so easy to book a ride too! And then the day came for our ride, and I was a little anxious. What if they're rude to me when they find out how much I ride? Or what if they give me a difficult horse? But from the start, the trail guides were sweet and talkative. (We tipped them $20 at the end.). And everyone at the ranch were super friendly. We booked a ride for 1PM, but you'll have to get there at 12:30. You'll want to wear long pants, closed toe shoes, and I brought my own helmet with a visor (bc trying to preserve the youthful skin if you know what I mean). But they had their own helmets, and you could waive riding in a helmet if you want. The horses were brushed and tacked up by the time we arrived, which was nice. They then went over the basics. They were good with the BF, which was a relief, and then we did a walk only trail ride. ... Okay, a little tangent when it comes to people who complain about not trotting during trail rides or for people who slow their horses down and then try to make them trot to catch up to the horses ... DON'T DO THAT. Here's the thing, most trail ride horses are retired horses that can only walk, and it can be painful (i.e., make them lame if a person is riding them at the trot). It's like making your 90yo grandma, with arthritis jog in the park instead of enjoying a nice leisurely walk. Just don't do that please. Book a lesson--with the right horse--and learn how to trot, canter properly until your heart's content. (I have many good recommendations for the Huntington Beach area.) Then when you fall in love with the sport, join the elite group of horse owners, and trot, canter, half-pass all you want. But leave trail riding horses alone. Please. Okay, rant over. The ride itself was nice. I've been riding all my life (sometimes multiple horses a day), so I didn't mind the brevity of it. I think if you don't ride a lot, you may think the ride was a bit short. But to that, I remind you how cheap the ride was through groupon ... I'm sure if you paid more, you could book a longer ride. At the end of the ride, we brought our horses carrots. DON'T FORGET THE CARROTS FOR THE HORSES! My BF really liked giving his horse carrots. He said his horse didn't shy away from him when he petted his head--like my horse does. (I had to remind him that my horse was not trail horse and worth more than our cars combined. LOL.) Another tip: bathroom was so clean! I used it change into a dress and wash up. After our ride, we went down the street to a winery. It was a great day! read more

The horse ride that me and my bf did took about 45 minutes around the ranch. We got to learn how to direct the horse to turn, to stop, and to go. I love the fact that they make sure to watch all of us just in case if our horse got distracted. The path that we went was very simple and easy for a beginner. The speed wasn't too fast. I saw a deal on Living Social and decided what the heck, let's try a trail ride and wine tasting. I'm very glad I did. Despite it being a long drive from Orange County, it turned out to be a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I booked my trail ride about a few weeks in advance for 1pm on a Saturday. When we arrived, we parked, wandered up and were directed towards an area where horses were hitched up to a railing. We signed our waivers, selected some helmets and proceeded to get our horse riding 101 lesson. On the ride, I realized a few things. 1- My horse was a jerk. I got a horse they put 7 year olds on, but my horse really wanted to get back and chill at the barn, so pretty much, no matter my direction, she was going to get there as quickly as possible and get back to ditch me. 2- Horses really will spook at anything. and 3- Even if the horses spook, you won't die. Good thing, too, because I wasn't looking forward to getting hurt that day. The area is really pretty and very dusty, so be prepared to inhale a fair amount of dirt from horses kicking it up along the way. After the ride, they give you tickets to the wineries and let you loose. We stopped at two of the wineries and really saw how you could make an entire day of it. Oh, and there's no cell service out there, so you have to wait until after you leave to instagram and facebook all your trail photos. Discovered this ranch via a Groupon deal coupled with a tour of several wineries and had a fantastic time. I believe our guides were Lauren & Nicole but I am not 100% sure. Regardless, they were both very patient and diligent in making us comfortable during our ride. The countryside is beautiful but can get a little dusty / dry during the warmer months (we went in February and I had a sneezing fit for a portion of the trail) so if you are prone to having hay fever attacks or have sensitive allergies, be sure to take some Xyrtec / Allegra with you. If you love chaparral countryside, you will enjoy the landscape. Besides that, the horses are retired / older making them very docile and well trained. They are a beauty to look at and were quite enjoyable company. The absolutely loved the ranch, as soon as we arrived we were greeted by a sweet grey cat. The staff was super friendly (I forgot my instructors name, sorry!). It was me, my boyfriend, and two other people on the ride. Since my boyfriend and I had ridden before, we got the cheekier horses. Mine was named Sasha, she likes to pretend to be friendly with other horses and then yell at them, which I found amusing haha! The horses were like well-behaved toddlers in that they would get sidetracked easily, but can be put back on track with enough nudging. The ride wasn't super adventurous, just a trail around the property, but I really enjoyed it. I liked seeing all the hustle-and-bustle that goes on at the ranch. The wineries themselves were also nice. As for my actual experience, the horses were great. This was only my second time ever on a horse. My first time was as a youth, and that horse continually nipped at me. This was completely different. The horses were cooperative and comfortable. The trail guides were great. We enjoyed some fun banter with "Montana" (I don't recall his real name). I definitely recommend Green Acres Ranch. One word of advice though, the place can be a little difficult to find. My wife and I went to Green Acres Ranch this past Saturday. It was great! The two guides helping us were knowledgeable and funny. They made us feel comfortable and walked us through the process of what to expect. My wife has worked with horses in the past so she was fine but it had been a while since I was on a horse. We got there 30 minutes early which gave us time to sign the waiver and spend time getting to know the horses. The ride itself was relaxing and fun! The Groupon we used was a steal and inspired us to do this every couple of months. Definitely recommend Green Acres Ranch especially if it is your first time or been a while since you've been on a horse. BTW, although the 7am option sounds early, especially for a Saturday, it was actually perfect cause it was nice and cool and overcast which made riding very pleasant. Also, please tip your guides before you leave. They have to get up crazy early and do a lot to get the horses ready to ride. Went on a trail ride on Sunday, 11am with a group of four + one instructor. Lauren was our instructor. She was very sweet. She told us there were usually 2 instructors but they were short staffed. I would have felt better with an instructor riding behind us (Lauren led the way), but after a few minutes, I wasn't so nervous anymore. First time riding a horse EVER. I rode Spur and my boyfriend rode Chester (who kept falling asleep while waiting.......funniest/cutest thing ever). It only took a few minutes for me not to feel so nervous anymore. The horses know what they are doing and it's a follow-the-leader ride. Spur mostly started without me having to give him the starting kick. He responded great when I pulled to slow down/stop or to veer left and right. It was extremely hot at 11, but it was bearable. We stopped midway and Lauren took some great photos for us. I purchased a couple trail rides for my cousin's birthday and was extremely disappointed in Green Acres for these reasons: 1. Our trail ride was only about 40 minutes once we had to groom and tack our own horses. I didn't mind grooming our horses, but please don't deduct from our riding time. 2. The trail was a very unimpressive ride through their property. The property was nice, but certainly did not make for a "scenic" trail ride. It was very average. 3. We were not allowed to do anything but a very slow walk behind our guide. It was just myself and cousin on the trail and the two guides. I tried walking beside my cousin so we can chat and was immediately told to get in a single file line. Don't let the pictures posted fool you. Those were most likely pictures from the place they took photos... the prettiest part of the trail was along the fence line of their neighbor's property. 4. Growing up on a 70 plus arabian horse ranch, I understand that many riders say they're experienced who aren't. But it is very easy to determine within minutes if a rider is in fact experienced. My cousin and I have been riding since we were toddlers and have shown in just about every type of riding. A very slow, single file walk was not what we thought we signed up for. We weren't looking for anything crazy, but a little trot would have been nice. 5. This facility offers "wine tasting" vouchers, which can be misleading. The wine tasting is at another facility AFTER your ride, as they do not allow any drinking on the ride. Not complaining about this, but just clarifying as it's very misleading. After our ride we were asked by a couple women in the office how our experience was. I admitted that we were disappointed for the reasons I listed above. I told her that I called before booking the ride to mention we were experienced and if I had known it was a walk only, I would have not purchased. She very unapologetically replied that it said it was a walk only in the groupon. I checked again and did not. She also explained that their insurance doesn't allow anything but a walk. Maybe the insurance they purchased for trail rides only allows a walk, but find that hard to believe as they have a full training facility. My cousin and I had asked the guides if we could at least trot in the arena as part of our ride but we were denied (they certainly have riders trotting in the arena). I don't buy the insurance excuse, but if it is true, they should get a policy that covers more than a slow, single file walk if they're selling trail rides. There are better facilities in the area that not only allow you to ride along your friend (shocking), but offer wine tasting and more scenic trails. This was the worst trail experience I've had, and I've gone on hundreds over the years. read more

I'm on a horse! Wow, I always thought that even the basics of riding a horse would require a lot of instruction and practice; but within about 10 to 15 minutes I was up in the saddle and knew how to successfully guide my steed to proceed forward, go faster, slow down, and turn left or right. Our group had about 10 amateur riders for a relatively mellow 75 minute trail ride. We also had 3 experts who took the front, back and middle of our line. The pros at Green Acres (and extremely well trained horses) made the ride feel very controlled, which really allowed everyone to enjoy the experience. The ranch is located very close to several wineries, but I'd recommend saving the tastings for AFTER the ride! read more

If you are in Temecula on a getaway, I highly recommend taking a trail ride at Green Acres. My fiancé and I escaped to Temecula for a three day getaway and I had purchased a voucher for horseback riding and wine tasting ... not really knowing what to expect, but thinking it sounded fun. It was. Finding the ranch was not really difficult, you just have to pay attention so that you don't miss the sign. Someone else's review below makes it sound super easy to miss, but it isn't. We got there a little early because we were prepared for it to be difficult. But we wound up happy to be there a little early because it gave us a chance to look around. There were kids in a ring getting riding lessons, a pen of llamas (so weird and wonderful), a ring with two adorable young colts in it, and plenty of other things to look at. It's a working ranch with trainers training their horses to do a number of things from jumping, cattle wrangling, etc, so there was a lot going on all around. Our trail guides (Sarah & Nicole) were both fantastic--very friendly and informative. They took us on a beautiful ride that provided some incredibly gorgeous views of wine country. It was one of those experiences that just makes you breathe deeply and relax. At a certain point, they had us stop at a particularly gorgeous point overlooking the land and then gave everyone a chance to have their pictures taken. I thought that was a really thoughtful touch. My fiancé and I enjoyed ourselves immensely and consider this a highlight of our trip. We just happened to pick one of the hottest days on record--so even though we had a 9am trail ride, it was still insanely hot. We enjoyed it so much despite the heat, but I imagine the fall would be even better! A note for those (like myself) who don't "ride" often or at all ... be sure to bring something to tip your guides. I didn't and I was mortified. It's one of those things that is easy to just not consider if you don't do this sort of activity at all, but just like any service industry, tips are appreciated.
