Pleasant environment, friendly staff, accommodating amenities. The first time I walked in, Virginia took care of enrolling me. After that, every morning at the front desk, Twyla welcomes me with the most cordial smile, if you can imagine, no less at 5:30 in the morning! Not only is my son becoming a strong swimmer, he is making friends and enjoying his instructors. The teens working as instructors are so lovely. I am beyond impressed. I'm between 3 & 4 stars. The gym has a lot of machines, well taken care of. Magazines to read while walking or riding bike, a lot of classes available for everyone of all different capacities. The weight room is large and intimidating, open to adults, many different weight machines that the average person wouldn't have a clue how to use. There is a weight room office usually staffed with someone for all of your questions. They have child care for those with kiddos during the day hours. 3 Pools, racquet ball rooms, 2 gyms (1 multipurpose), locker rooms, many different work out rooms for classes or stretching. This gym can be a little intimidating because of the sheer size of it, but it tends to be a little more homey than you'd expect. I'm quite disappointed in the classes, they stop at the exact time I get out of work. There are no classes that start past 6:30. What about the people that work until 5, 6, or 7, pm? I would adore taking a class but I'm not able to because all the classes are over by the time I'm off. The staff is very friendly, always up and moving, and willing to help with any questions. One thing that bugs the CRAP out of me here is that the staff does not enforce the cleaning of your machines once you're off of them. Its in your best interest to clean the machines before you use them as well as after = Each morning at 6:30 am you go, and there is an old white man with dark gray hair and moustache, and a tall, average, black female both that sweat incredibly, and get the machines gross and then walk away from them, in the weight room, in the machine room and I doubt they'd even go as far as washing their hands in the restroom... Good night. Those are two I notice because I see them so often, but as a patron I shouldn't have to feel so inclined to tell these people to clean off their machines, the workers should. The should be noticing things like this, being there more than I am - and discretely tell these patrons to clean their machines after use, its common courtesy. read more

The staff here are very friendly. They offer a lot of different classes for all ages. There are a good amount of cardio machines and weight equipment. They have three swimming pools, two indoor basketball courts and separate locker rooms for male and females and families. Also, if you have children, they offer child watch for free! :) read more

This YMCA is quiet and large, in summary. The pools are perfect for getting out of the hot Texas sun and the cardio and weight lifting areas have many sufficient machines to get in a good work out. The child watch program is convenient for both children and parents, as are swim lessons and youth basketball teams. The staff are extremely welcoming, helpful, and seem to enjoy their jobs. I read some of the reviews and I am not sure I understand what they are talking about. We've re-acquianted ourselves with the Family YMCA in Waco for the past 6 months. We first became members over three years ago, a few months before my late husband suddenly and unexpectedly died. He was only 36. It was too traumatic at the time for our daughters and I to continue to go to the Y (memories of all being together at the Y etc) I decided to try to start going again recently (2 1/2 years later) Some of the same people were still working, but one in particular. A worker named Twylia. She remembered us. Not only did she empathize and encourage me to utilize the Y as a sorta therapy for my/our pain and grief in getting healthier, she has the warmest smile and the min we walk through the door, reminds me it was a God thing in coming back again. The other staff, wonderful. I could a small book on the staff that I have come to know at the Y. But I'd summarize with the words: Kind, warm, encouraging. My personal health, lets just say, I have had one too many taco's Lol (obese) and am in the midst of transforming my life and body back to a healthy Joanna again. No one there has judged my outer appearance. No one has snubbed their nose. I have not felt self-conscious, not once. I swim all the time. I do the stationary elliptical. I work out in the weight room, among all the hot delicious guys. No one judges me or makes me feel ashamed. Not one snub, a smirk, or giggle. And actually, most all the trainers I've talked with, they've been pretty helpful, should I have a question and trust me, I've had many. The facility is very clean. You don't see a spill uncleaned. The new locker rooms are so comfortable and spacious. They have a therapeutic hot tub, and 2 sauna's (one wet and one dry) and all this with the option of affordable package plans, including financial aid for those who are poor(I am) apply for a impressive monthly discount, completely based on income. For my family personally, $25.00/month was the cost of me and my adult-ish daughters to come each and every month. How kind! Who does that? The Y does I could not ask for a better staff, kinder folks, more immaculate facility, excellent and exciting classes ( I plan on trying one out when the weight gets a little lower) leading and guiding me towards my goal, to be a happier, healthier (both mentally and physically) Joanna And the friendships I've formed in 5 months have only been the extra plus "sugar-free hazelnut creamer" in my coffee. YMCA location is ok, but installation are awful. Staff is not really friendly and depending on the person to talk, they don't know all information. The month-to-motnh membership advertised in the webpage is no longer valid (it also depends on the staff person you talk to!!). Pools are greenish color.... and not looking good. Lockers are small and most of them broken and not updated. It may look not expensive, but that's only the monthly membership. It gets expensive when it's included the whole yearly/activation fee. read more

I have multiple gym memberships but keep this one because of the child care and the pool in the summer for my kiddos. The weight facility is mediocre. Lots of older equipment but gets the job done. The place is clean but feels really old and out dated which seems to be typical with the y. However I do love the family environment that you don't get with other gyms. When I'm with the family I go here but when I'm on my own I prefer elsewhere. read more

My family has been a member of the waco ymca for over 12 years. I have been off to college for the past 5 years and my sister had been away in the navy for 2. We were finally home together and wanted to go workout at the Y. Upon going we were informed that my sister could no longer workout because they took her off our plan because she recently turned 23. They were very unhelpful and rude. They would not work with us to figure out a way to workout for one day. This is how they treat veteran and military members? Will be canceling my membership. We have been members of the Y for several years and so far the only thing that has improved was the paint if the front area by the check in desk. The equipment is breaking down, literally breaking down. I was there last night and had to switch treadmills 3 times to finally get one that would stay running. The ladies locker room hasn't been updated since they created a kids area by the bathrooms. When we had sever weather ealier this year water was pouring down the walls behind some of the lockers. The ceiling tiles are still have the big huge brown rings on them and haven't been changed. The shower heads are leaking spraying water everywhere and the shower walls are moldy in some areas and just filthy in others areas. Did I mention the equipment is always breaking down. The hot tub doesn't work half the time and the sauna stayed broken for months. Very disappointed that the facility hasn't be kept up and management doesn't seem to care. read more
