I recently had an opportunity to visit and train at the Golds Gym in Waco Texas. I was visiting from Tennessee. The GM (Ryan) went out of his way to make the experience fantastic. I have never seen a GM so invested in a gym as he was. While I was there I observed him positively interacting with his customers, cleaning and also repairing equipment. This is a follow up to my previous review. The GM Ryan Muncie does not return calls and is evasive. The employees staffing the gym seem to shield him from any calls from current or former members. They make it impossible to cancel your membership so don't believe them when they say "its cancelled..." because its not. I've already filed a complaint with the TDL- the Texas agency responsible for overseeing business practices with gyms. I am also going to file a small claims action. Is there anybody else who has been charged recurring fees after they have cancelled? Maybe I can get a class-action going? read more

I was a member of this gym for around 9-10 months. I will say that I feel some of the reviews are a little harsh in regards to the age and cleanliness of the gym. No, it's not brand new, but it's not totally dilapidated either. For my husband and I, this was the best gym option in the entire city so we can't knock it too hard. I will say that Jane at the front desk is phenomenal! Seeing her always made our day. She was always positive & upbeat and holding us accountable with her "See ya tomorrow!" when we left. The sauna, jacuzzi & pool remained closed throughout the duration of our membership. We thought the entire time that it was due to COVID, but once we asked we were told that it was because it wasn't used enough to justify the cost of keeping it open. That was definitely annoying considering they were amenities included in the cost of the membership to make it justifiable to us. One of the main reasons I chose to get a membership with this gym over others in the area is because it was the only one with a sauna. Without them the membership is definitely more expensive than what it's worth (around $30/month a person). It's not the best, but it serves its purpose. I would just want people debating joining to know that what you see is what you'll get. They don't seem to do any type of upgrading or care to do any more than what's already been done. many of the reviews I read were about money disputes from cancelations. Hope everybody gets their money back. But I wanted to focus on the gyms themselves. I was in Waco visiting family and worked out in Gold's, Planet Fitness, and Crunch. None of the gyms stunk, none of the staff were rude, and none of the equipment was broken. I had a great workout at each. I visited different times of day for each so won't comment on how crowded they were; would suggest you use a guest pass to each during the time of day you expect to work out. All offered a free visit to locals. Gold's had that body builder feel they're known for, but also lots of just regular people getting a work out. They seemed to have more free weights than others and slightly fewer machines. Cardio equipment was in good working order but slightly older than others. Fewer TVs to watch while doing cardio. Unlike others they don't have small lockers with locks near entrance. Either leave your stuff in car are bring a lock. Planet Fitness had the Friendliest staff (though all were professional). Guy who helped me at front desk came by and asked if I was finding all the equipment I needed. The equiepment was all in working order and met my needs but it does seem to be lower quality than others, looks to be made of sheet metal and replaced often rather than the sturdier equipment at others. Best use of TVs at cardio section, must be 20 TVs to pick from. Crowd seems to be regular people just trying to get into shape. I actually didn't check costs because they're always doing deals but it appeared to be cheaper than others. Very laid back vibe. Crunch was the most polished. Best cardio equipment by far; looked brand new with all the bells and whistles. Fewer TVs to pick from compared to Planet fitness but more than Gold's. Had fewer free weights but the best machines (I use a mixter of both). They had a high intensity group workout going on while I was there. Looked very good. as I said in the beginning, there are price differences and nobody can make tha5 balance of quality and cost except you. Use the free guest pass each offers locals and work out in each the day/time you expect to work out. Good luck. read more

I haven't been to Gold's Gym since before COVID. The main reason I joined was for the pool due to back and joint issues. The sauna, jacuzzi, and pool were great! However, since they closed the pool area down and since they don't plan to reopen any of the above (checked as of 1.10.23), I will locate another gym that will accommodate my needs. During my time before as a member, I loved the gym. I am sad and believe they probably have lost clients and will not increase their clientele significantly without the water options, especially for the older generation. Seems they forget that so many insurance companies now pay for Silver Sneakers accounts for their insured. Plus, I understood they had youth swim classes for competition at one time. Oh, well. Average commercial gym. Equipment functions and is kept clean. Super easy to sign up, but membership helpfulness more or less ends around there. read more

I absolutely love this gym. The staff here is incredible, Ryan is an absolute beast and is constantly on the floor pushing people and mingling--several of the workouts he's shown me while on the floor are now weekly movements for me. It's a gym, so don't come in expecting a resort, but it's clean, well maintained, and I think I heard through the grapevine that all of the equipment is getting an update pretty soon. Everyone who comes is friendly, so it feels like it would probably be a great gym for newbies too! read more

I was originally really upset with Gold's Gym because they told me they would give me a refund for a billing error, but it never came. However, Miguel Perez was awesome and helped me resolve the issue with customer care very quickly. I am glad that I was finally helped by a good employee like Miguel Perez. Gold's Gym - Waco - Gyms Near Me - Waco, Texas

Disclaimer - I actually live in Dallas and have a membership at Lifetime Fitness, but was visiting my folks in Waco so my husband and I visited this location with the kids for our workout. We paid $15 per person to work out as guests and $4 per child to have them stay in the kids care area. Anyway - I worked out here YEARS ago and remember when this Gold's location was much, much nicer. When visiting today, the bars on the Olympic lifting platforms were in serious need of being greased. They wouldn't spin easily and the weights and clips kept getting stuck. At least four different cardio machines were in disrepair. And generally speaking, the entire facility felt dirty and dingy. The front desk staff and management were very friendly and accommodating to us. We were also comfortable dropping them off in the kid's care area (they are 15 mo and 5 yrs). Overall, the gym served its purpose for us out-of-towners. I just would have hoped that for a $40 workout, it would have looked and felt nicer/cleaner. read more

This is my gym, I love this gym because the offer all of the Les Mills classes like RPM, Sprint, Body Pump, very friendly staff, they do have someone constantly cleaning equipment, the other gym members are very nice and respectfully, would love to see 5:30 PM classes and perhaps upgrade the bathrooms and lockers, take out the movie theater and add additional space for more fitness classes. The Les Mill's instructors are all awesome and well qualified. This place could attract more members by advertising that they are the only club in town that offers the Les Mill's format for fitness instruction. Terrible gym. Terrible management. Outdated broken equipment, pool is always under maintenance, the weights, machines, and upholstery on benches are falling apart, Ryan the GM refuses to take care of problems. They will continue to bill you after you try and cancel your membership and refuse to take your calls when you try and get in touch. Still fighting for a refund 7 months later. I would rather pay $40 and work out a playground than Golds. Go to any other gym before this one. read more

I went into this Gold's location today because Id gotten tired of my current gym. The front desk associate, Josh, was an absolute sweetheart and incredibly helpful. Even though I was anxious (I dont always handle new people and places well due to my ptsd) he was incredibly kind and understanding, and put me at ease. I took a walk around the gym and looked everything over-- the diversity of machines in this gym is better than planet fitness, and the private workput area attached to the womens locker area was a welcome surprise. I WAS disappointed to learn that management had closed off (and kept closed off) the pool and sauna areas. My wife has hypermobility and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Between the EDS (Which is the hypermobility) and her POTS, the ability to work out in a pool (which would be kinder to her joints) in an indoor, temp controlled room would have been an absolute godsend- and would have had me signing up today. Josh told me that the gym might be undergoing renovations soon; if this is the case, I sincerely hope that the owners consider keeping (and updating maybe??) The pool along with whatever else they have planned. And.. if I do go with a different gym- yeah, thatd be the reason why. read more

Same experience here as many other reviewers. I've been a member of Gold's in three other cities and I've NEVER experienced as poor of a level of customer service as at this location. I signed up for a boot camp membership plan only to find out they no longer offered boot camp classes. I attempted to cancel three different times and I kept getting charged on my credit card even after I'd been in person twice more to explain the situation. I spoke with two different assistant managers and they both assured me it was taken care of. I eventually called my card company and reported the charges as fraudulent. They sent me a couple of threatening collections letters after that. Idiots. I do not recommend this location at all. read more

The gym equipment is outdated which is going to happen to most gyms. So that's not really a issue due to them being in the process of upgrading. The workers are friendly and I enjoy it. Classes here are also amazing so please take advantage of the amenities!!!! read more

I've gone to Gold's since I moved here six years ago and I've stayed for a reason. It's easy to get in and out, you don't have to fight for equipment, the staff are friendly and they genuinely care about their members. Many things have changed for the best. They strive to truly make you feel like family. Clean, positive, and overall extremely friendly.

Everything is old and outdated, and the ceiling is falling apart. They have to fix the sauna, pool, or hot tub almost every week. Some machines are rusty or squeaky or broken altogether. The ladies locker room always smells like backed up sewage or mold. The app never has the full class schedule. Classes are often cancelled or changed. All this being said, the reason for my 1 star review is actually the customer service I've had. A month ago I went in to get a free 30 day fitness plan. By the end of the meeting I didn't get a fitness plan, but she did talk me into upgrading to the enhanced membership. She told me it would be $30 that day to upgrade. I approved her to charge the card on file. The next day, I was charged over $80 and have since questioned multiple people about this. Two weeks ago I was told by the manager, Ryan Muncie, that he'd process a refund for me, but I haven't received ANYTHING. So a week ago, I went in and talked with another manager. He said he'd "reach out to me tomorrow" but never did. It's been a month since I was incorrectly charged and nothing has been done about it yet. After I spoke with Ryan Muncie, about this issue, I left and he also left behind me. As we walked out I heard him tell another employee "I should have left a few minutes earlier." Meaning he wouldn't have had to deal with me. That's just crappy. Left a bad taste in my mouth and now after nothing has processed, makes me even more mad. I will be cancelling my membership and switching to Crunch Fitness. Maybe they'll actually appreciate my business. Don't sign a contract with Gold's Waco! read more

I was a member at this gold's gym for about 5 years. I recently cancelled my membership for what I believe is a bad business practice even though they checked "billing problem" on their paper. On 02/16/2018, my card was cancelled by my bank for fraudulent activity. Wasn't my fault, nothing I could do about it, but naturally when your card gets cancelled, it effects a lot more entities than just your bank. Now since my year contract with Gold's ended 4 years ago, I was on a month-to-month contract. I assumed that since my card was cancelled, my membership would be cancelled after it failed to bill the following month, but that wasn't the case. Gold's has continued to attempt to bill my account for over two months, racking up the monthly membership costs even though my last visit was on March 10 (which I was surprised it worked that day because I thought my membership would've run out). I would be happy to pay golds for my membership up to March 14, since I was billed bi-weekly, but I will not pay for two extra months of membership when the contract should've ended in the middle of March. I'd also like to point out that the contract terms are not readily available ANYWHERE online, at least where I could find, nor is it expressly stated that you will continue to be billed even if payment doesn't go through. You'd think they might've mentioned that in the dozens of phone calls I've received from them. read more

This gym is great. I switched from planet fitness to Golds and it was a huge difference. The people here actually care about getting in better shape and there is more than enough equipment. The gym is very large and has many cool features like a MOVIE THEATRE and a large swimming pool. The machines and weights are a little dated but that is my only complaint. The lady and man that do the cleaning are friends and they are very good at what they do. i hav been a member for four years and have always found that i could have a good time working out, swimming, using the hot tub, dry sauna and free classes. To make time pass by I use the movie room and can do a work out for 1 1/2 hours without getting bored. The people are friendly and care. DO NOT EVEN WALK IN THE DOORS OF THIS GYM! I was living in Texas for a month and wanted to be able to use a gym. I met with a guy who set me up for a 1 MONTH contract with them (come to find out they fired him a couple days later). When my time was ending in Waco I went in to cancel. However to my surpised I was told that there was no such thing as a one month contract and that I would have to pay for at least 2 months to cancel. I talk to a one of the managers named Randall and he said that I could use my membership at any golds gym in the US and that there were Golds Gyms in Arizona I could look into using for that second month. When I got home I look online for a Golds Gym and found out that apparently they don't exist. Another gym bought them out and they don't have any in AZ. So I call Randall and he said that he would have me fill out a cancellation form online and that I will get my money back for the last month. I filled it out and email it back to him immediately. After a week I didn't hear anything back from them. I called back to find out what is going on and they said I should have my refund in 3 weeks. So here I am 3 weeks later with no refund or COMMUNICATION. I give them a call and the lady said that you I cancel because I am apparently under a contract for up to 3 months!?!? I never heard that at all! So I tell her that Randall was helping me through this process and that because there are no guns here they were working on getting me my refund. She then tells me that there are no notes or cancellations in process. So this manager named Randall who was apparently taking care of me this whole time wasn't doing anything. These people are so corrupt and unorganized! Let alone they could care less about their customers! I have my email with a date and time stamp to Randall with my cancellation form attached and they claim they can't do anything! Save your self the time and go anywhere else than Golds Gym. Did these good reviews come from employees? The free weights are broken and rusted, bars are missing, upholstery is torn, holes are worn in the rubber flooring, and cardio equipment is often broken. It seems like the "Golds" headquarters has no input on franchise standards. Follow up: 4 months later and the same old story. Rust, broken weights (none new as indicated coming), holes in the floor and 4 out of eight free weight stations (bench/shoulders) have no bar. The bars that are present are still covered in rust. I went in and spoke to staff in November to cancel my mother's membership as she is moving. I also was canceling my husband's. I gave them the 30 days notice. Go go in on 1/12/20 to pay my dues and I am informed that I also have to pay for my husband because the girl at the desk did not cancel his membership. And because we discussed this in January and they require 30 days notice I will also have to pay for hi for February, also. My mother's membership is paid by her insurance so they got screwed. But the girl at the counter on Sunday says to me that my husband can use the gym till March. Like that makes everything ok. Oh, she said that she will speak to the manager because I canceled before the " new" cancel policy went into affect in December. Coming from a girl who travels back and forth from Houston to waco and who works at a gym (but that doesn't mean ish lol, just coming from experience), this location is DA BOMB. it has a sauna, and I'm spoiled with that thing - it gets hotter than some of the saunas in htown. It doesn't smell bad, the setup is clear. The customer service from the operations manager, RaDonna, was awesome! People who write negative or 1 star reviews just chap my hide because I've been here SEVERAL times during my trips back home and not once have I had a negative thing to say. And even if I did have something negative I would just tell management not be a cyber bully because I'm a grown up and grown ups speak and handle situations in person. COME CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! This gym in Waco literally charges you an arm and a leg . I went home on leave to see my parents and decided to give these guys one more shot. No love for the military . 16.00 for a 1 day pass . Get real , I pay 39.99 for a 24 hour membership sport, which is twice the size and in the best part of the country on the beach. Wow what a rip, Golds. Luckily there's a crunch Gym across the street that a lot of good Waco people don't know about. In sunny California , Crunch runs great competition. Can't wait for them to catch on. Bad thing is I used to work for Golds back in the day when they were located across from Toys R Us. Their equipment is becoming outdated anyways. read more

Honestly this place is a dump, the staff if ridiculously rude and unhelpful and it doesn't matter who you tell no body cares. They make a huge deal about having a woman's only area but the reality is it's where they dump their broken and beat up equipment. The childcare staff is whoever they can find to show up and it doesn't matter if they even show up on time. If you say something to the front desk manager she makes it seem like you're lucky to even have someone show up. I canceled my membership last August, spoke with the GM Ryan MULTIPLE times and I am STILL getting "past due" notices for months I wasn't even a member. I tried calling and Jennifer answered the phone and could not have been more rude or disrespectful, after leaving me on the phone for 10 minutes Hector answered and still wouldn't let me speak to Ryan, he's impossible to get a hold of. I have been trying to get this issue solved way too long. If you don't care about customer service you will for sure care about the lack of cleanliness at this place. It's disgusting, roaches everywhere and hot water there is hit or miss. I even had one employee tell me not to ever depend on taking a shower there because they almost never have hot water. The equipment is torn or broken and it's honestly just disgusting. I have been to other Gold's and I am honestly shocked they allow this place to remain the hole it is because the other ones I have been to are immaculate. Facility wise, there was no point in my looking elsewhere. This gym has everything and then some. It's also the first gym set up that's ever made sense to me! Good flow, multiple individual spaces for classes, stretching and intimate workouts as well. Pool/Saunas/No contracts, the new body scanner and the cardio movie theater were just ridiculous cherries on top. I would love to see a ballet style bar in the stretching area! ;) As far as staff, super impressed my membership rep -(newer guy from San Diego) was awesome and made me want the extra features without "selling" me in any way. His appreciation of the facilities and ownership naturally showed and made me excited to join. He convinced me not to wait on my intro and body scan the next day. Again, great experience with Trent, he gave me tons of information, not only on the facilities and options available but also the local area and the lifestyle in general. I again just felt excited to dive in to my new gym. I also felt we came up with a really solid and realistic plan. These guys set me up for feeling at home in my new town and gym. I was lied to about personal fitness contracts, how rolling over sessions worked, and also price adjustments. After confronting the gym about this issue I was told that the person I spoke with about these issues had been fired for lying about these things. Even though that was an admission from an employee there, I was still not given a refund for my promised adjustment, and no compensation was given. They stated there was no proof of my conversation with the ex-employee. Why would I have moved to 8 sessions per month if I was paying for 12? I'm done with any contracts with any Gold's Gyms. read more
