The practice is busy in both locations, however everyone provides excellent care and follow up.

What I went through with Dr. Johnson was extremely distressing and left me feeling unheard, dismissed, and deeply stressed. From my very first appointment, something about Dr. Johnson's manner felt off to me. She came across as robotic, detached, and very hard to connect with. Still, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and assumed that even if we didn't "click," she might still be a competent doctor. Unfortunately, my later appointments proved otherwise. A few visits in, I requested a Pap smear even though I wasn't technically due for one. I have metastatic cancer, my tumor markers were rising, and I wanted to be proactive. I explained this on the phone, was put on hold, and then told I could be scheduled for a Pap smear. Shortly after I arrived at my appointment, they brought me in the back, and automatically took a urine sample and performed a bladder scan--even though I did not have any urinary issues. I thought it was odd but allowed it anyway. Dr. Johnson came in with her usual distant manner. She didn't explain the exam in much detail but performed what I believed was a Pap smear. Before she left, she told me I would have my results within 24 hours. Twenty-four hours passed, and nothing appeared--not even a pending test in the Quest system. Days went by, still nothing. So I called the office and let the receptionist know that it seems no test had ever been submitted. She said she would look into it. The next morning, I received an email from Quest saying my results were ready. To my shock, the tests were for serious sexually transmitted diseases--tests I never requested, never discussed, and never consented to. I have not been sexually active in over 15 years. I was extremely upset and immediately called the office. It was a Saturday so I asked the answering service to have Dr. Johnson paged. When I spoke to Dr. Johnson, she initially said she didn't remember me and had to review my chart. When she called back, I told her I wanted the tests removed from Quest since I had not authorized them. Instead of apologizing or explaining what happened, she told me the call "wasn't very therapeutic" and hung up on me. Since then, I have been stuck in an exhausting back-and-forth. The office manager originally told me removing the tests would be no problem. But when I called again to follow up, I discovered the office had blocked my number and stopped responding to portal messages entirely. All of this has caused an enormous amount of stress and anxiety during an already difficult time--I am dealing with cancer and autoimmune disease, and the last thing I needed was this. What makes it worse is that Quest informed me that a simple phone call from the doctor would allow the results to be retracted. Yet that has still not been done. Between the repeated bladder tests I've never needed and the unauthorized testing, I can only describe my experience as feeling like the office is disorganized at best, and at worst more focused on billing than on patient care. When I reached out to Elaine in the client compliance department at US Urology Partners--whose job is supposed to be patient advocacy--I was met with the same lack of concern. Overall, dealing with Dr. Johnson and the Greater Boston Urology office has been one of the most frustrating and distressing medical experiences I've ever had. Nothing about it has felt therapeutic, supportive, or respectful. I truly hope no one else has to go through what I've gone through -- and what I'm still dealing with. What makes it even more painful is feeling that Dr. Johnson's ego prevents her from seeing past herself. From my perspective, she showed no real care for me as her patient; it felt like she did whatever she wanted to do, no matter what I needed, asked for, or clearly expressed. In my opinion, her behavior toward me was deeply concerning, and it left me feeling that she was clearly not acting in my best interest.

The waiting area was clean and tidy. Seemed like I was the only one there. I didn't wait for long. I filled out the form and waited maybe 5 minutes and the MA, I believe her name was Maddison? Starts with an M. She was super friendly and easy going. She definitely knows the area well. I recently moved to the area and didn't have a pharmacy in mind. She quickly asked where I moved to and immediately suggested a cvs pharmacy I am familiar with 5 minutes from me. Shortly after she took my rapid strep test, the provider was in in less than 10 minutes. Dr. Paul Paganelli-- he was amazing! He listened to all my concerns and was super personal. He prescribed me antibiotics and I was on my way!! He made sure to walk me out and quickly sent the orders to my pharmacy. On my way to pharmacy, I received a text saying my prescription was ready for pick up! Amazing back end staff who truly cares.

I'm not considered middle-aged but I was recently looking for a physician/surgeon to perform my vasectomy. Anyone who knows me is well aware that I want nothing to do with kids, but I've heard many stories about morally righteous doctors trying to dissuade people my age from getting snipped because "what if you change your mind?!?!?!" Yea, I was tired of hearing that, and fortunately for me, Dr. Morgentaler was completely understanding and respectful of my choice. In his words (I think it's an exact quote), "The only potential issue is that you could change your mind, but you're a big guy and can make your own decisions." For starters, this was extremely comforting, especially since I was considering letting him mess around with my junk. I found Dr. Morgentaler through some online research. He is an associate professor of urology at Harvard Medical School and runs a urology practice in Brookline Village (literally right next to the D line station) called Men's Health Boston. He is a well-known expert on sexual health. Since I didn't have any reviews to go on, I came to the consultation well prepared with questions. He and his Physician's Assistant (Gary Mousseau) addressed all of my concerns and explained everything. All of the staff members I met were very polite, knowledgeable and experienced. Except for the receptionists, the staff is all male. During the procedure Dr. Morgentaler demonstrated his knowledge and competence even while having a conversation with me the whole time. At a few points I felt a slight pressure, but each time he told me what I was about to feel and where I would feel it, and he was always exactly right. This showed he really knows his stuff, and it removed any nervousness I felt. After he finished he asked how painful it was on a scale of 1-10, and I said probably zero. The application of the anesthetic was not exactly pleasant, but it was over in about ten seconds. There was no other discomfort and no pain. The procedure was over in less than 15 minutes and I took the train home almost immediately. I felt some minor discomfort the first day after the procedure, but no pain, and I was back to normal activity the next day. Bottom line... Dr. Morgentaler is extremely knowledgeable, competent and genuinely a nice guy. I probably won't need an urologist anytime soon, but if I did, I would definitely go back. I would also recommend him to anyone requiring urological services.

But due to the fact that the larger city hospital were booked until mid summer or the fall, I went outside of my comfort zone and made this appointment with the Cambridge Health Alliance Surgical Specialties and the Somerville Hospital. I wanted to have the procedure done very quickly, as I had two weeks in between jobs, and they were able to accommodate me. Due to a medication I take daily (NSAID), he did warn me about bleeding being a risk factor after the procedure - and that the risk for bleeding is slightly higher if I did not cease the meds about 7 days off prior to the surgery. I explained that I knew the risks, and would still like to have the surgery three days after ceasing that medication. He agreed. His bedside manner was fantastic, as was that of his staff (especially the older, Italian female nurse - great sense of humor behind a very professional countenance). Even though I was completely exposed, so to speak, the staff and the doctor made me feel very comfortable. It was all done in less than 20 minutes (the procedure itself - time in hospital was about 1.5 hours), and with ice and taking it easy, I've experienced little to no swelling, and no bleeding. His incisions and stitches were perfect. If looking for a vasectomy and you live in the Boston area, I highly recommend this doctor. I come from a family of doctors, and have a lot of friends who are doctors, and honestly - I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to my healthcare and my providers, and I can say with full confidence that he is a great doctor, surrounded by a great staff. Just be sure to not be an idiot after your procedure, and follow his orders (and common sense). No rough sex or carrying around furniture all day. Take it very easy - after all - we're talking about a rather important part of a man's body;)

I honestly don't know how they still have jobs. I dealt with this doctor's office for a year and these women have been so rude and disrespectful every single time I had to call for something or saw them in person. It was to the point where I felt uncomfortable calling about health concerns I had with my baby. Their tone of voice was so condescending and always made me feel like everything was my fault and I was doing things wrong - imagine that for a brand new parent. I don't know what makes them so entitled but they are the reason I am leaving this practice. The doctor is great but I will not be spoken to like that ever again. Even now that I called to try to come in and sign a medical release form and get my child's records, the woman on the phone basically told me that she doesn't have time for me and maybe I could get it in two weeks. The worst part is she LAUGHED on the phone when I asked her for these things. Not in a nice way but in a condescending "you are so dumb" way. Then she proceeded to tell me the office is closing soon when online and everywhere it states they are open until 4:30 PM (it's 12 right now.) She obviously just wanted to get me off the phone. I DO NOT recommend this place. The abuse from the staff is just not worth it. We have enough to worry about as parents.

He's a five but the staff (when we went there) was about a three. Although it happened quite a while ago I remember going to the office once when one of our kids was really sick, the receptionist (who is likely and hopefully gone by now) tells me that we shouldn't bring our kids to the office if they have the stomach flu. The problem was that I didn't say she had the stomach flu, I didn't know what she had because I am not a doctor...and neither was she. I was burning mad, in addition to being incredible insensitive the comment was dangerously unprofessional as receptionists should generally keep their medical opinions to themselves. Yeah, apparently I'm still mad about this. This event I recall specifically, but there were other negative staff interactions that occurred but that I don't remember with such detail. Even if the staff is still prickly I would unreservedly recommend Kerbel.
