I have always enjoyed Chinese food from the tender age of 5. While I'm a connoisseur of nothing, I know what I like. Although I live only 5 minutes from what was The Wok, we rarely visited, as I thought the Chinese fare closer to work (Nonantum) was better (RIP in Green Tea). The location reopened recently, and I ordered take out for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Their boneless spare ribs were the best I've had in years; with the balance our dinner, including Hunan Beef, Orange Chicken and Yu Hsiang Scallops were absolutely delicious. So I thought, well maybe the Best Boneless Ribs I've had in years, were a fluke? Well, we were pleasantly rewarded with the Great Wok's delectable offering the following week. They hit it out of the park again! I met a wonderful woman named Amy, who I assume is an owner. The Wok really is as good as it gets! It was my wifes birthday and we had a late change of plans, so we Yelped local Chinese and the Wok came up. The restaurant is on a side road from Route 9 and easily missable. We were greeted and sat immediately - my wife spotted some straws on the way in with flowers and characters on and commented to the waitress as we placed our order and each drink (including kids Sprites) had the straws with additional colorful stuff hanging off - cherries - you name it. The app sampler was huge - fresh and hot! The mustard is amazing -best I have had - but it does have a bite! I had the underwater conference and was blown away - fresh, beautifully presented and sizzling - several people asked the wait staff what it was on the way through. My mom and dad used to come here waaay back in the day when they first started dating - like 25 years ago... We saw it as we drove to buy a car at Wellesley Toyota and stopped by the other night. It was FABULOUS. The waitstaff was awesome. The ambience was great. The lazy Susan - at our table of 6 was so useful. The menu was almost too extensive. The specials sounded awesome and on top of it all they sing happy birthday on birthdays. Okay - the food - appetizers were great. Chicken teriyaki was SOOO good. Dumplings were crisp and flavorful. Boneless spare ribs actually tasted like pork. Mooshi shrimp was great and I forget what else we had, but the chicken with cashew nuts was my favorite by far. Highly, highly recommend. This family run restaurant creates delicious Chinese food. We have been doing pickup at this since the pandemic began. Order and pickup was quick and easy. The staff delivered the food to your car trunk and the process is easy and contact free. My wife and kids also usually get sushi from here, which is also very tasty and the fish are very fresh. After driving past The Wok for years and always hearing wonderful things, my husband & I decided to give it a try this past weekend. We've been looking for a new takeout place and had high hopes this would be it. Snag one came when my husband had difficulty getting to the restaurant from Rte. 95. Not sure what the problem was, but apparently it's not as easy to get to as it looks. Snag two came when my husband was told the price. It was about $50 and he was told "it's too much food for 2 people." Thanks for the judgement... Perhaps we should have been tipped off by the lack of prices on the website menu... Did we order too much food? Probably, but he usually gets a combination plate, so he wanted to try his standards. And I had to try my standards as well. What we ordered: Fried Peking Raviolis (6) and Chicken with Broccoli for me (I added carrots to the chicken, and was disappointed to also find mushrooms - which I despise. I asked for carrots, I did NOT ask for mushrooms and if they are in the dish to begin with, it should say so on the menu). I know this isn't the most exciting dish, but I was trying to balance out the fatness of the Fried Dumplings. Unfortunately, it was pretty bland and just... not that great. I've had amazing Chicken with Broccoli before that I crave. This was nowhere close to that. The dumplings were pretty standard - I've had worse, I've had better - but the sauce was packed with ginger. I liked it, but it was not quite what I'm used to for my dumplings. To be fair, my husband did get a LOT of food: Barbecued Boneless Spareribs, Chicken and Cashew Nuts and an order of Pork Fried Rice. (You know we sampled each others!) His chicken dish was delicious - MUCH more flavorful than mine and the chicken was so much more tender! It had plenty of chicken and cashews, and was loaded with diced celery, carrots and water chestnuts, which was a surprise to us. The veggies stayed nice and crisp, which the cashews got soft, but not soggy. I would definitely get this again. The Spareribs were fine - a generous serving of typical BBQ boneless ribs. Apparently I am not a fan of pork fried rice, as I found it to be dry and not that tasty. He loved it (but didn't like the peas and carrots that were thrown in). So, obviously snag three was the flavor. We were just underwhelmed throughout the entire meal, with the exception of the Chicken with Cashews. Snag four was that the food was lukewarm. I understand that we did takeout, but my husband had to wait for the food and came straight home - and we do not live that far away. So why wasn't it at least on the warm side of hot, rather than the cold side of warm? (Does that makes sense to anyone but me?) As I said, it came out to close to $50, which was shocking because whenever we've ordered this exact same meal from takeout places closer to us, it's about $20!! And yes, usually my husband gets a combination plate. Perhaps if The Wok offered something like that, it would be more reasonable. We did have PLENTY of food left (except the dumplings) - enough for dinner the following 2 nights for us both. So I guess if you divide it, it's like, $8.50 or so per person per meal. So, reasonable, but still a lot. Given the great reviews - on here and in person that I've heard - I couldn't believe how disappointing our meal was. read more

So I haven't tried Great Wok since before the pandemic right after Carol sold the old Wok to the new owners. Back then it wasn't great hence my 2 star review. They changed all the dishes to use lower grade fattier chicken and they messed with a near perfect hot and sour soup recipe for something more generic and not great. Well, they must have corrected a few things because the hunan chicken I got was all white meat and very good. The hot and sour? Just like the old wok. The beef teriyaki was very good. I'm so glad to put the great wok back on my go to list. I'm actually very glad because it's right around the corner from my house. I was a regular at the wok and I'm hoping as I explore the other old favorites that i can keep coming back. Well done! Thank you for making adjustments!! read more

Good for their lunch specials - standard Chinese fare. Service is not the best in terms of efficiency, but it is friendly. I always would get their lunch specials, never ordered delivery. Best Japanese food in and around Boston. I have been going to different Japanese restaurants for months. This is by far the best one I have ever been to. Food was above fabulous. Service outstanding (Cindy was a great waitress) and the atmosphere very inviting and relaxing. I know that this will be my go to restaurant. While we were there a number of people came in and from the way they greeted the staff it was obvious they were regulars. You have to try it. This restaurant must survive the tough times. Not the old place anymore!!! Clean, fresh food, great service, and the perfect non-pretentious local restaurant for either take out or eat in. Portions are good, food is well presented, and menu has something for everyone. We came back to try this out after a VERY long hiatus and have become regular patrons. We surely miss Carol and the original wok. The new "Great Wok" is far from great and pretty near terrible. Our take out order was very prompt and that is the only praise. What a disappointment! Decided out of the blue that we needed a new local Chinese food restaurant. Holy moly, I'm glad we found Great Wok. We stumbled upon their new outdoor table setup and were glad to enjoy a delicious meal. Everything we had was hot, fresh, and clean tasting. The Wok has some of the best quality Chinese food in the Metro West area that I've been able to find. I was a Brandeis undergrad and have been dissatisfied with the food I've found in the nearby area (Asian Grill, for example). The local places that deliver until 2-3am are pretty much giving you what you pay for - a container of grease with some meat or vegetable. Just as impressive as the food is the service and management at the restaurant. A friend and I came here to eat and he started choking and eventually had a piece of chicken lodged in his esophagus. The manager of The Wok went beyond what we would have expected to help us out, and even showed us how to get to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital ER from the restaurant by driving out with us. My friend and I remain very thankful for the help she provided us that night. read more

I grew up on this food and love it! My family has gone there and ordered take out for 25 years. It is good middle ground of tasty but not too pricey Chinese food. The restaurant itself has a casual, comfortable atmosphere, and the owners are very friendly. We've talked with them at length about their kids and they treat us well. Some family favorites include the fried wontons, paking ravioli lemon chicken, mooshi and two-side yellow. They also have a number of veggie and heart-healthy dishes. There are few other Chinese restaurants I like as much in the Boston area, and none in the surburbs. read more

Just tried these guys tonight and it was some of the best Chinese food I've had in months if not years.We had General Tso's chicken which was perfectly cooked with a flavorful,delicious sauce,crab rangoon fried to perfection and very flavorful and absolutely gigantic,and equally delicious,peaking ravioli and chicken fingers.The location is a bit tough to get to but it is worth EVERY BIT of the drive.Keep making awesome food like you did tonight and I will be back! read more

I was really hungry, and there was nothing else on Rte. 9 to eat. I spotted this place, and it looked like it might have a lunch buffet. Hence, the reason I made the incredibly illegal maneuver I pulled off to get into the parking lot. When I walked in, and discovered no lunch buffet, I almost left, but the lady was so nice. I figured ok, why not. The schezchuan spicy beef was delicious! Coulda been spicier with MORE MEAT, but it was really good. Fried rice was tasty, not greasy, soup was yummy- all food was surprisingly good. Actually, if I have friends visiting who want Chinese, we'll take the drive down Rte. 9 to this place, it's not that far. Heck, it's before you get to Natick and Shopper's World. The owner checked on me to see if I liked the food, introduced herself, and seemed genuinely interested in how her business was running. The people giving this place 1 or 2 stars just have bad taste in chinese food. I have been going to the Wok for over 10 years, and the food is consistently excellent, always. The waitstaff are friendly and attentive, and the service is excellent. If you are looking for a quick lunch, they will have your food lunch order out to you within 5-10 minutes of when you order it. And for a great place like this, the food is quite cheap. I think about $7-$9 for one of there lunch specials; which includes choice of soup, choice of spring roll egg roll or chicken wing, fried, brown or white rice and the entree. NASTY! One word...I was having a lay over and had to stay in the hotel near by, I order Singapore Mai fun and Kung pao chicken, Nasty!!! It got no taste what so ever!!! And the food don't come with RICE!!! Really...28$ dollar no rice?!!! Only two order..a can of soda and bottle of water! The Wok was my place for Chinese food when I lived in the area and they spoiled me. Other than a few places in Boston's Chinatown area I have not found another place that served the quality food the Wok provides. The lunch specials they offer are all good and fresh. No last night leftovers like so many other restaurants of this type. They have a pretty fast take-out service and the orders are always correct. As far as the staff they all are friendly and the place is clean and well kept. I can't recommend this place for very large groups because the dining area is small and the parking can be a problem on weekends. read more

Introduced to this restaurant by my lovely fiance and his family (who have been regulars for almost 20 years)! The one in Nantucket is also very good (best steamed shrimp, served in that cute little bamboo basket!). I love everything I've tried so far! Great shrimp dumpling soup, egg rolls and probably the BEST Sesame chinese chicken i've ever had -which i never personally order, but always try someone else's. Thankfully I'm feeling real generous today so I'll focus on the good rather than obsessing on the bad. The szechuan spicy beef was delicious. The chicken wings, while small, were tasty and among the better I've had in the Boston area. The hot and sour soup has a nice flavor but is kind of barren...I'm used to seeing more ingredients floating in the broth. The fried rice was atrocious...I don't know what it is about the fried rice in this area but it reliably disappoints, so it's not just you The Wok, everyones fried rice sucks around here. read more
