Great Wall Aug 29, 2025 Decided to try this place out. This place also had good reviews. Here goes the test. They are still in the Covid phase. No dine in. Still have take out available. The walls and face shields are still up. Not as busy as Leong's 23 Chinese Restaurant at lunch. I was the only guest getting take out. The location is pretty far out east too. Prices are a little more than Leong's 23 Chinese Restaurant. Fast service. No issues. They speak decent english. The taste. I ordered the schwean/szechuan chicken combo. Tasted good. Slightly different than Leong's 23 Chinese Restaurant. I can tell they used garlic pepper for the schwean/szechuan chicken. Not necessary for this dish. Good eggrolls. Same dipping sauce but a little on the sour side. Needs a little water to fix taste. The combo plate had less food than expected. All in all both this place and Leong's 23 Chinese Restaurant make good chinese food. Try one, or try both. Both are good enough for my taste. Trust me, these two places are above average. Great wall is not so great! This was the most bland take-out we've ever had the misfortune of eating. My wife said, "I never in my life thought I would have to add salt to Chinese food!" The wontons in the soup were super-soggy - like they'd been soaking for days. Overall, it was a miss. However, the service was great. Food was hot and ready when they said it would be. We haven't ordered from this place in a very long time and we ordered carry-out two nights ago and wanted to leave a review. We thought that this place is better than New China King and Leongs (both 23 Mile in Chesterfield). Hubby had sweet and sour chicken and the chicken was really, really good and super tender. Often times, we have been finding that the chicken at our local named carryout restaurants have been chewy, which has detoured us for eating Chinese food this past year. I had the Szechuan veggie dish, medium spice and it was perfect. The veggies were not mushy and over cooked nor were they too hard (I find that often times, the green pepper is undercooked to my liking) ...just perfect and fresh. Got carryout September 6-2024 worst dry food I ever had. Dinner for 2. Took food back to show owner and she didn't want to do anything about it. Very bad food. A thick plastic sheet blocks your view of the staff and kitchen. The food taste and quality is very poor. The wonton noodles were very mushy and the broth tasted like someone urinated in it. I'll never go back here. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

I liked it! Food was good...I ordered thai cashew chicken...T5 the little girl (yep) who was our waitress shrieked in excitement that it was her favorite! When she was littl(errr) her Dad would ask what she wanted to eat and she would cry out T5! A-OK is the perfect way to describe "Great Wall." My family and I have ordered takeout from here a few times and it has been satisfactory each time. I've had lo mein (Just OK), general Tso's (Pretty good), egg rolls (Just OK, definitely not my style), and fried rice (Pretty Good).Not the best I've ever had, but certainly not bad. I don't love the bean sprouts in egg rolls thing that seems to be everywhere in Michigan, but maybe that is a regional prerogative. I prefer cabbage all the way. The portion sizes are absolutely gigantic, and two people can easily split an entree. Also, the family that runs this place seems very nice and are kind in the interactions I've had with them. Not my first choice, but if I'm in the area and need a quick takeout option, this would do. read more

I used to come here seemingly weekly when I was younger, fifteen or so years ago. Just about every weekend I would go to Blockbuster, and then Great Wall for dinner. SIGH. Good times. The Great Wall's interior has remained just about the same as I remember it, other than that it now has a different coat of paint on the walls, and their large fish tank is now a small one with one lonely fish in it. The restaurant is small and a bit dingy, but it's pretty clean. Anyway, I'm torn on what to score this place... the Vietnamese owners of this Chinese restaurant made me Thai food -- pad thai to be specific. I was just confused when I got my plate. I was given a mound of noodles drowning in a coconut milk-based sauce with crushed peanuts on top and no bean sprouts or limes to be seen. I thought maybe my pad thai had been made wrong, but they said it wasn't... this was like no pad thai I have ever seen. Regardless of what they said -- it is NOT pad thai so much as a sort of curry. Fortunately, it was really tasty regardless... assuming you like coconut milk. I also asked it be made spicy, but I feel like it was only moderately hot. The 5 stars here are well deserved not only because of the food, but for the awesome service! They really treat their customers like family! It's a small family business and their daughter is just adorable! Aside from the 'homey' feel of this restaurant, the food is delicious as well! I always get my usual the gang gai. The service here is shockingly bad, not to mention some serious concerns about health code violations. We went in for dinner and ordered, were never offered water. I had to ask for chop sticks and water. After an excruciatingly long time I finally got up to request some water and the child server was in the back on her phone without shoes on. The water still didn't come out for about another 10 minutes. We saw an adult once the entire time and at no point were our drinks refilled or were we checked on. I had to get my own take out box from a shelf. The food is decent but the service is horrendous. Will not be back. read more

Small but very cozy restaurant. Family owned and operated. Was greeted by the owners 2 daughters and we're treated like family. My wife, daughter and twin boys had a late dinner. Nobody was inside do to them almost close to closing time. Had the best sweet and sour soup I ever had. Also the best Thai pad prik. Very spicy and awesome. Kids have sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. The food and atmosphere was perfect and the owners were so friendly to us. This is our new place to go for our Thai fix. read more

Horrible. Received our soup before we even were asked what we wanted to drink. Asked for pad Thai with NO SPICE and received what I would call a extra spice. The fried rice was definitely cooked in a microwave due to the plate being on fire and the rice still being cold.... not too mention it was literally just rice and chicken. Meanwhile the waitress was too distracted by her daughter running around the dining area screaming. Very disappointing. This place has really gone down hill, I ordered carry out, and when I got home my orders were not right I asked for crazy spicy. and ended up with bland tasting food. also they did not pack the orders very well. Two of my orders leaked sauce all over the bottom of the carry out bag. thankfully they did not leak in my car or I would have been pissed. There is a section on the menu that says Vulcan with no description of what it is. You have your choice of chicken, beef, pork, or seafood. I'm adventurous, so I tried the Vulcan Seafood. It was delightful. Shrimp, squid, scallops, krab, and assorted veg in a thin well seasoned brown sauce. It was served in a ceramic bowl over a flame. The flame kept the sauce bubbling merrily. The dish came with choice of soup but no egg roll. I went with the egg drop which was above average in viscosity. I was not presented with crispy noodle things as is common in other Chinese restaurants. I was waited on by a precocious 10 year old who discussed with me her dislike of gummy worms. They are, in her opinion, too natural looking, what with their defined segments and rings. The restaurant's TVs were tuned to an only available by antenna station which was showing an episode of Murder She Wrote. It was the murderer's allergy to cilantro that gave her away. read more

I will try to make this review as simple and to the point as possible. I have be to many,many restaurants around the United States due to my job needing me to travel. throught the past 15 years . In that time I have have had my fair share of bad & good dining experiences . most of the bad ones were taking care of in a professional manner . by a polite apology by the manager ,owner etc. & a partial or full amount of the meal (s) taken off the bill most of the ones that didn't do either of the aforementioned courtesies go out of business sooner or later. With that being said . My experience with this great wall restaurant was unacceptable. I placed large carry out order via phone and was told the order would be ready in 25 minutes . approximately 25 mins later when I walked in the place it was empty and there was nobody there to greet me,but a loud tv playing pop music videos. I sat down and waited and took almost 5 minutes before a young girl that looked to be no older than 12 , came out holding some bags of carryout she said hi can I help you. I told her my name and I was picking up an order . She replied that my order was not ready yet , and disappeared into the back. 15 minutes later she came out with my order she mumbled off my order to me , took my money and in a very childish manner said bye-bye have a nice day. When I got back to my girlfriends house we distrubuted the meals to everyone and each person started to notice problems with their order. two of the dinners were ice cold, one was supposed to be extra spicy & it was bland, one order of white rice was extremely sticky, the other was a hard dry clump. I called the restaurant back and the same little girl answerd the phone, I explained to her about the issues with the orders, and was not given an apology, when I asked for the owner she replied the owner wasn't there. and stated that she went over the order with me. I told her that orders were right but how they were prepared were wrong, in being cold ,dry rice, wrong spice levels, etc. At that that point you would think she or the owner would have offered a goodwill gesture of a partial refund ,or replacement of at least the two cold meals. But nope, niether of those occured. And for that reason, neither I or my friends will be coming back. It was an Expensive waste of money. The next time I am ever in a restaurant and a child is charge with no adults around . I will refuse my order & turn around and leave. read more

I have bought food here for numerous years, but since their teen age daughter has become a full time employee short of going to school, service has been TERRIBLE!!! So I ordered on the way home and had to repeat my order 3 times to make sure it was right. when I went to pick up the order there is what looked liked a child preditor eating by himself and running the remote to the TV Surfing YouTube. The kid finally brings out my order with an extra side of attitude, only to find out it was wrong. She then stated that that was not the way I placed the order and when I reiterated that I know how and what I ordered, she grabbed my dinner and said I would have to wait for them to remake error while the other food I ordered got cold. I asked for mom from the back and explained the error and her daughters attitude, there wasn't every the slightest of an apology. I asked for a complete refund and told I enjoyed the food but that I would never be back. Both of their kids are ALWAYS there and that is wrong at best and criminal at worst. This place is excellent for Friday night take outs even though it is a sit in resaurant. The waitress knows us by name (6 years so far). I havent tried everything on the menue as of yet but my favorite is the chicken fried rice. The prices are reasonable. read more

Great food at a great price and large portions! It's family run, so you feel that you are eating over at someone's house. Best sweet-n-sour chicken, egg rolls are perfectly crispy, and their pad Thai is full of vegetables and authenticly spicy if you ask for it. A very strange place with a 12 year old taking orders and the phone ringing off the hook with no one paying attention. I love this place! The family who owns it are so super nice, they talk to all their customers. They care about their customers and if something is wrong they will make it right! Every time my husband, my two girls, and i go to their restaurant....they always take great care of us and the food is the best ive ever had. i do belieive that some chinese restaurants taste differently then others but thats your preference. i always get the chicken shesawan (probably misspelled) and this restaurant is the only one that i like. the egg rolls are awsome with the real fillings and the soup my daugther loves. the only thing is some other chinese restaurants offer the sweet rolls and the fried crunchy sticks for your soup, this one dont. But the entrees are the best, so my oppinion is,,,, are you taking the soup and the rolls home to reheat or our you taking the rest of your entree home. id rather have the best entree! read more
