Really cool distilling.

Went to see Uptown Dueling Pianos and was pleasantly surprised. The piano players were very good. They interacted well with us and could play any request from the audience. The staff at GWR was greats. Very responsive and friendly. I never had to wait for a drink. Will definitely go back and visit GWR again.

We're back! Stopped in on Shop Small Saturday as it was our duty to support local businesses! Great experience as always, and tried a couple of their seasonal cocktails. We had the Hot Toddy and the Toasted Almond. Both were delicious, and we were able to sit and relax while we enjoyed our drinks. They did not have a food truck today, but there are local restaurants very close by where you can grab a bite.

Find out why they are making it right. Find out what they do how they do it and why it's different than most. There's no food on campus but there is plenty of food and restaurants near by. Excellent customer service. I swear I'm their biggest fan from Oregon anyway. Really had a great time met lots of people on the tour and in the tasting room. It was just the experience of a lifetime for me. Highly recommend you devote a couple hours and make it a point to stop and visit. You might find something you like

We had paid in advance and made it just in the nick of time to join our group of about a dozen people. The crowd was a mix of adults and children; personally, I didn't quite understand the presence of kids on a jailhouse and whiskey tour, but the group was ready to dive into the history. The tour kicked off with chilling news of hauntings. Our guide mentioned that the show "Ghost Hunters" had even visited the site, certifying the old jail as haunted--though fortunately by "friendly" spirits. The sensory experience was a bit of a rollercoaster. I generally enjoy the scent of bourbon, and the initial aroma upon entering the distillery is quite pleasant. However, the main room where we spent a significant portion of the tour had a scent that was overwhelming and wholly unpleasant. That said, the content of the tour was good. It provided a well-balanced mix of intriguing historical facts about the prison and the technical side of whiskey making. The kids got restless during the tour and actually started brutally kicking each other in the shins. They each had on shell toed Crocs, so you could hear the crunch of bone and flesh beneath each kick. Their parents let it go on indefinitely. The hour passed quickly and was well worth the $14 adult admission. The tasting at the end is not for the faint of heart. They serve hard liquor, and I do mean HARD. My lips were numbing and my face was next. I had to tap out after the third swig! On the bright side, the gift shop is fantastic. They have the most darling items; we walked away with two tote bags and a delicious pink lemonade drink that will be perfect for sharing with friends this summer. This is a unique, affordable way to spend an hour, provided you can handle the heat and the high proof!

That said, after visiting this place on a Friday afternoon, I have to admit I was a little taken aback by the pricing. I've included a few pictures for reference so you can see what I'm talking about. When we arrived, the ambiance was really nice. Everything was decorated for fall, it was beautiful outside, and they had a great outdoor setup, so we decided to sit outside and enjoy it. Now, I completely understand that everything is expensive these days. Drinks at bars, restaurants, and distilleries aren't exactly getting cheaper. With that in mind, though, I also expect a certain level of quality, size, and portion when I'm paying $12-$14 for a cocktail. My wife ordered an espresso martini, and I ordered a rum mojito, both made with their own products. I'm not exaggerating when I say the size of these drinks was... well, laughable. Especially considering the price. I also walked around and checked out a lot of their spirits, because, you know, that's basically mandatory when visiting a distillery. Their bourbon and other spirits seemed to be priced pretty much where you'd expect for a smaller-batch operation. I really didn't have an issue with those prices. It was the cocktail portions that got me. You're paying $12-$14 for a cocktail or around $8-$10 for a martini, and they're coming out in what I can only describe as plastic baby cups. At that price point, I'm expecting something that requires at least a heavy hand to carry, even with plastic being mandatory. Here's the deal: if you want to spend some money and have a decent experience at a local distillery, this place is okay. The outdoor fire pits were a nice touch, there was plenty of seating, and like I said, the ambiance was really enjoyable. The bartender was also very nice. For us, though, we only ordered the one round. After tax and tip, those two drinks came out to almost $25. So, if you're heading here, just bring your wallet--and maybe a magnifying glass for the cocktails. You're definitely going to pay a premium for the experience, and in my opinion, the portion sizes just don't quite match the price. Overall, it's a nice spot with a great atmosphere and friendly service. I just think it's a little overpriced for what you actually get in your glass.

We were in town and wanting to visit a distillery, it was a bonus that they made moonshine and whiskey. They are only open in Saturday's so I submitted a message on their website, within two minutes one of the owners, Steve, text me to set up a visit on the only day we were available. He was incredibly accommodating, he even text me the day of to verify our tasting. We later found out that he drove directly from his primary job in another town to meet us there. The tour and Tasting was free! The Distillery was small, but clean and well decorated. We started with a quick tour and explanation of their process. He was very patient with my silly questions and more than happy to explain everything to us. After the tour we moved on to the tasting. He offered for us to try any and all of what they make there. We didn't not need that but tried many of them. We ended up purchasing the whiskey, lemon drop, and blackberry moonshine, although there were several others we enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good way to spend an hour and learn a little about the distilling process.
