Such a good spot in Belmont/Mount Holly!!!! I actually discovered this place because of a Groupon for a rum tasting and tour. The hidden treasure here: if you go to a tasting, you are given a shot glass that you can take back any time for a free tasting. You really can't beat that. Not to mention, the tour is AWESOME. The distiller is so entertaining and very generous with samples of their delicious rum selections. This is a historic mill from the 1800s and sits on the river (hence the name, duh!). Beautiful views, a wonderful bar upstairs with solid drinks and easy peasy parking in the lot. What more could you ask for? Oh, they serve food too! If you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend checking it out. Dogs and children welcome!

It was fun to see just down the roAd massive old building muliple floors, not just a bar, not just a museum, has all this and more. Its a location where the masters of distillery do the magic of some flavor full Rum. The service answered question, made recommendations and tell you about the history.

    They do mocktails!

We loved this fresh, fun new location! Located in Mount Holly right on the river, Muddy River has a lively outdoor atmosphere with plenty of room for activities. Their cocktail menu is extensive and unique featuring their own flavorful rum selection. They have a small kitchen here and they offer a limited menu including elevated bar bites like quesadillas, pretzels, totchos, and more. They also serve delicious mocktails. This was a great spot to check out on a sunny spring Saturday! We'll be back.

Nice place. Really clean and friendly staff. This place is deceiving large. From the back patio, to the spacious back room, lower patio and green space. They have a large array of rum to sell with various flavors. I did see one vodka. They had coconut, pineapple, and spiced rums just to make a few. They offer tours on Saturdays and Rum tastings for $10. If you return with the spot glad provided, the tasting is free (in mostly certain). Well definitely be back.

Wow! We loved their little spot in Belmont, but this is hands down better! So happy and excited for the Middy River crew and their new location, I know they'll kill it! Get any of the cocktails...you won't be disappointed. If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and get the rum flight - it's the best! Honestly, the basil rum, is my drink of the summer. It's so good! Overall, you won't be disappointed. The spot is awesome and the drinks are event better!

I love our newest venue in our awesome little town. The transformation of their new space is fabulous. I am not a big rum drinker but I did enjoy their Spiced Banana painkiller drink. We visited on this particular evening due to the live music and were not disappointed. Although a little chilly outside and only one fire pit to share for all, the owner did communicate that they were working on warming up the outside with additional pits and heaters for future outdoor events in colder weather. That is exciting. They have opened the small kitchen and have food trucks now and again. I have no doubt they will survive in the area for many years to come and probably I will eventually become a fan of RUM! Welcome to Mt. Holly Muddy River!

I purchased the Groupon for the tour & it was great. This was my 1st time doing a rum tasting & I was not disappointed. The drink prices were reasonable & the bartenders were great. I ordered the flatbread pepperoni pizza, the sauce was too acidic & over powering. The overall ambiance was great & very welcoming. Also they offer free tours with their shot glass, so I'll definitely be back!

If you want amazing Rum cocktails, crafted by bartenders that know what they're doing, then head to Muddy River Distillery. Wow, wow, wow! The most amazing rum cocktails crafted by JORDAN that we have ever enjoyed! Located in a historic cotton mill with a cool bar, table seating, and outdoor patio, it really can't get better! Thank you Jordan for making our first visit so fantastic. I have no doubt we will become regulars. See you soon!

What a cool place to grab a drink! Recently I was meeting some friends at the White Water Center, and my girlfriend and I had some time to kill. She suggested we stop in here for a drink. I was intrigued as I didn't know this place existed and wasn't sure what to expect. We pulled into the gravel parking lot in front of what was once a thriving cotton mill. I love when historic buildings are repurposed instead of being torn down, and this is a great example. They are known for making rum, and a lot of their cocktails reflect that. There is a sizable tap room with plenty of seating at the bar as well as high tops, tables, and even some outdoor seating on the balcony. The outdoor patio overlooks the stream below and is a great place for a refreshing rum cocktail on a nice warm day. They also offer small bites including flat breads and pretzels if you want to grab a bite as well. I went in not sure what to expect but I came away charmed by what I experienced and will for sure stop by another time when I'm in the area.

We are on the road full time and always look for neat places to go. Muddy River Distillery is a MUST SEE!!' Everything about it is amazing, their location in a restored cotton mill is so incredible. The tour was the best, the owner Robbie gave the tour and he is so excited about his rum was very informative and fun and got to taste a few rums. The distillery has a great food menu and all the food was tremendous. We had the meat lovers flatbread and the pimento cheese tray. Their rums are all so very good. Drinks at the bar were so good we had the smoked rum old fashioned. And the pirate drink. There must be 20 or more specialty drinks they make. The bartenders (especially Kaitlyn) were so nice and made the best drinks. We brought home T-shirts, rum, stickers and a drink smoker. We will be back in our travels!

    The bar

We live 4 miles from Muddy River Distillery and visit every 3 or 4 months! Every out-of-town visitor we host gets taken to Muddy River. Their Silver is a solid, SOLID 80 proof rum for mixing. The 1-year barrel aged rum is delicious and the 4-year barrel aged rum will knock your socks off!!!! They have a wide variety of flavored rums: Spiced, Coffee-infused, Coconut and Basil as well! We own THEM ALL!!! The staff is friendly & knowledgeable, the product is delicious AND the prices are reasonable. We highly, highly recommend this establishment!!!!!! UPDATE 7/20/2021: We needed to see their NEW LOCATION in Mt. Holly! It's big and beautiful! Jordan mixed our drinks and answered all our questions about the new products. We liked the 8 year run but the CASK aged rum stole the show!

When you walk it's like a light shines upon all things whiskey and bourbon. Very cute and quaint. Ashley conducted the tasting for us. They had the flights and I had a lemon drop. When I walked in, I let the bartender know we were hosting a group and he directed any newcomers towards our area. He was also very helpful in helping me navigate the drink selection and shared with me that they had an onsite food truck that was open. Unfortunately the weather was pretty toasty, but they had a tent space that was unoccupied with two small fans, so we moved our group in there. Towards the end of our visit, I had a chance to chat with the event manager who gave me her info in case we wanted to try and reserve the indoor space for future events. Overall, I could tell that they passionately cared that all their guests have a great experience. When you walk in, it is clear that they want to make everyone feel welcome and included.

It is a small space in a very hidden location (just follow the signs once you park) and the tour is more informative than anything else. They are so generous with their tastings and everything they make is incredible, but the amaretto is where they shine! Their prices for bottles are also very reasonable and you get to keep the shot glass as a souvenir. Plus, Chris, and especially Rick, are so congenial and you can swap stories with them for hours! To top it all off, we got to taste their rum, amaretto, and apple pie moonshine. Our favorite was the amaretto, which we bought for $24! We even got two shot glasses. You can do a curated flight for 10 dollars each pour, you can also do single pours of whatever they have available as well from their core products to the single barrels. We had paid in advance and made it just in the nick of time to join our group of about a dozen people. The crowd was a mix of adults and children; personally, I didn't quite understand the presence of kids on a jailhouse and whiskey tour, but the group was ready to dive into the history. The tour kicked off with chilling news of hauntings. Our guide mentioned that the show "Ghost Hunters" had even visited the site, certifying the old jail as haunted--though fortunately by "friendly" spirits. The sensory experience was a bit of a rollercoaster. I generally enjoy the scent of bourbon, and the initial aroma upon entering the distillery is quite pleasant. However, the main room where we spent a significant portion of the tour had a scent that was overwhelming and wholly unpleasant. That said, the content of the tour was good. It provided a well-balanced mix of intriguing historical facts about the prison and the technical side of whiskey making. The kids got restless during the tour and actually started brutally kicking each other in the shins. They each had on shell toed Crocs, so you could hear the crunch of bone and flesh beneath each kick. Their parents let it go on indefinitely. The hour passed quickly and was well worth the $14 adult admission. The tasting at the end is not for the faint of heart. They serve hard liquor, and I do mean HARD. My lips were numbing and my face was next. I had to tap out after the third swig! On the bright side, the gift shop is fantastic. They have the most darling items; we walked away with two tote bags and a delicious pink lemonade drink that will be perfect for sharing with friends this summer. This is a unique, affordable way to spend an hour, provided you can handle the heat and the high proof!
