This place is so great! But, fair warning, they are not following regular hours at the moment, so definitely try and call before you go. But, the owners were absolutely fantastic! It is a small space in a very hidden location (just follow the signs once you park) and the tour is more informative than anything else. Where this place shines is their product, and let's be honest, you didn't come to learn about the distillation process, you came for the booze! They are so generous with their tastings and everything they make is incredible, but the amaretto is where they shine! Their prices for bottles are also very reasonable and you get to keep the shot glass as a souvenir. Plus, Chris, and especially Rick, are so congenial and you can swap stories with them for hours! My bf and I recently visited Dragon Moonshine during our anniversary after finding a great deal on Groupon. WE HAD AN AMAZING TIME! We were immediately greeted by one of the owners, Chris. This man has such an amazing story! We learned so much about the spirit making process. You can tell he knows his stuff! He answered all of our questions and went into details on how every machine works. What's even more amazing is that he and his partner self-taught themselves how to do this. Genius. To top it all off, we got to taste their rum, amaretto, and apple pie moonshine. Our favorite was the amaretto, which we bought for $24! We even got two shot glasses. We really enjoyed our visit. The tour was impressive and the moonshine was really good. We did purchase the apple pie version because the Amaretto was sold out when we were there, which was our favorite of all we sampled. On a recent visit to Charlotte, I found this Groupon. Situated in NoDa, this is located at the back of a weird, artsy building. (Cool coffee shop next store!) Inside is an area where you can taste the moonshine and separate area where the magic happens. I found the tour to be informative but was really looking for to trying the goods! I was glad we did the Groupon, because it came with shot glasses with the dragon logo. As a result, it seemed we had bigger pours than the people who had the normal, plastic tasting cups. I swear the moonshine had us making fast friends with strangers next to us, haha. It was good time and we left with a yummy bottle of the apple moonshine. read more

Yesterday was my first Distillery Experience as I have been to more than 50 brewery's across these amazing United States. I was extremely impressed with the knowledge that Chris displayed through a little over and Hour of Narration from start to finish! Entrepreneur this 1 of 2 principles is! They are building a phenomenal brand with astonishing taste like I've never tasted. The Amaretto has such a unique flavor with a Maraschino touch that pleases the pallet like no other. The Apple pie was like a taste fresh from Grandmas oven with a warming that gives a fantastic finishing touch. The Silver Rum in my opinion would be a hit and certainly rival that of any rum a pirate would drink upon swaying the decks of the high seas! We had the great pleasure of meeting Christopher co-owner local guy Banker turned Distillery Master that knows his business. We purchased and amazing deal on Groupon and believe me it was a steal for what he had to offer. We spent almost 2.5 hours drinking and learning about the vision, process, direction the company is headed. You can tell from the great details and excitement he has a true passion for what he does. Do not waste your time. I purchased a groupon to take friends and we've now been twice and the same sign was up both times. (See below) I've called 3 times and no answer just machine. A very thorough experience that allows for one to understand the hard work and chemistry that goes into creating craft spirits. Sampling's were provided at the end and it was so easy to purchase a bottle at the end, reasonably priced at $25 per bottle. The space is not big but the tour has quite a bit of info that you do not notice. Our tour guide gave us the history and you can really tell the people behind this distillery are dedicated to its success. I definitely suggest a visit to this place. Worth every penny. read more

This was stop #3 on our Charlotte distillery tours for my dear friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago. We got a little lost finding it, and was a little nervous from the decor (or lack there of), but were very surprised. It was so much fun. We laughed so much, and learned a lot from Chris and Rich. They were some of THE most passionate people we met on these tours we've been on (which is a LOT). They have a real vision and plan, and it's great to see they were moving up quicker than anticipated. The tasting (80 proof silver rum, apple pie moonshine, and amaretto) comes with a shot glass, company logo on the front. The samples were pretty good, but Amaretto was my absolute favorite. This is a great small business that is taking a positive turn and growing quickly. There is free parking on the street or in the shared gravel lot. It's a hidden place. it's like a speak easy where you might pass it by......when looking for it. The name may fool you. It's not moonshine, but rum. Comes in three flavors original 80 proof, apple pie, and amaretto. The number one sold (drum roll please) Amaretto. Big surprise for me. It has a smooth taste with a cake batter finish. Once I tried it I could tell why. The apple pie has a cinnamon stick in it and you really have to take your time when you sip it. The original you can mix or take as a shot. I liked the original because for a rum it wasn't over powering sweet or syrupy. It had a smooth finish. They are making a new vodka soon to be released later this year. Went for a tour on Friday night. The tour is in one large room and you get a better understanding of the process of how it's made and how the owners got there. The rums are sold at the ABC store in NC so even if you can't make it by the production place you can grab a bottle at the local store. Came here with a couple of local friends on my first trip to CLT. Had a great tour by 2 friends who own the business and craft the spirits themselves. I don't usually drink straight liquor, but I have tasted cheap to expensive liquors and was pleasantly surprised with their moonshine and rum. The rum is the smoothest I have ever tasted and both the apple pie and amaretto moonshine flavors are delicious! We took home a couple of bottles and also nice souvenir shot glasses. Check them out. I purchased a Groupon last Wednesday to attend a tour at Dragon Moonshine. There was no reservation required, tours happen on the hour from 4p-7pm. I arrived at 4:55pm, the front door to the warehouse space where this is located was open, but the door was closed. We rang the doorbell, we knocked, we called, and there was no answer. They should have been open at 5pm on a Wednesday, according to their hours posted on Google. No one answered the phone. We waited 20 minutes out front trying to get in touch with someone to no avail. So I left. The next day, I called, no answer, and left a voicemail (also during business hours). I'm really shocked because of all the great reviews of this place on Yelp and other websites, but I am extremely disappointed I wasted 20$ for a group tour with absolutely NO response back from the company. Poor customer service for sure. Can't even tell you what the moonshine tasted like. read more

What a great experience! Ubered from South Charlotte to the Dragon Moonshine Company with 5 friends on Wednesday night. So worth the trip to Noda! Chris, one of the owners provided a great tour. It felt more like sitting around the dinner table with that one super cool family member you haven't seen in a while. So laid back, but seriously interesting! Rick, the other owner arrived as the tasting was wrapping up and we stayed talking with for another 1/2 hour. These guys are extremely personable & friendly. There is no pressure to buy anything. The sampling was generous. Product was so good! We all purchased bottles to enjoy at home. If you have out of town guests- this is where you bring them!
