We enjoyed all of our cocktails, the ones we ordered were: Daiquiri -- 8.5/10 Jungle bird. -- 10/10 our favorite drink of the night!! Iced coffee (this is a cocktail) -- 9/10 because of the uniqueness and the drink was really yummy Mojito -- 9/10 really good mojito but was heavy on the ice Basil French 75 -- 6.5/10 I personally wouldn't order it again, I was excited to try it but it just wasn't my personal preference Hurricane -- 7/10 didn't love this one and asked for more sour mix I would absolutely come here again, especially on a nice summer day, and sit outside to enjoy the vibes! I started off with a Rye Old Fashioned and watched the bartender assemble it in front of me with the twist of orange peel, the candied cherries and, per my request, half the usual simple syrup. I showed her my trick for taking pictures of drinks (Thanks, Julie!) and later enjoyed a vodka martini. The tasting room is comfortable with a collection of history showing how this place goes back to the Colonial days, their wifi works great (thankfully, as my cell coverage was zero) and my night's rest was excellent. Now, I completely understand that everything is expensive these days. Drinks at bars, restaurants, and distilleries aren't exactly getting cheaper. With that in mind, though, I also expect a certain level of quality, size, and portion when I'm paying $12-$14 for a cocktail. My wife ordered an espresso martini, and I ordered a rum mojito, both made with their own products. I'm not exaggerating when I say the size of these drinks was... well, laughable. Especially considering the price. I also walked around and checked out a lot of their spirits, because, you know, that's basically mandatory when visiting a distillery. Their bourbon and other spirits seemed to be priced pretty much where you'd expect for a smaller-batch operation. I really didn't have an issue with those prices. It was the cocktail portions that got me. You're paying $12-$14 for a cocktail or around $8-$10 for a martini, and they're coming out in what I can only describe as plastic baby cups. At that price point, I'm expecting something that requires at least a heavy hand to carry, even with plastic being mandatory. Here's the deal: if you want to spend some money and have a decent experience at a local distillery, this place is okay. The outdoor fire pits were a nice touch, there was plenty of seating, and like I said, the ambiance was really enjoyable. The bartender was also very nice. For us, though, we only ordered the one round. After tax and tip, those two drinks came out to almost $25. So, if you're heading here, just bring your wallet--and maybe a magnifying glass for the cocktails. You're definitely going to pay a premium for the experience, and in my opinion, the portion sizes just don't quite match the price. Overall, it's a nice spot with a great atmosphere and friendly service. I just think it's a little overpriced for what you actually get in your glass.

We had paid in advance and made it just in the nick of time to join our group of about a dozen people. The crowd was a mix of adults and children; personally, I didn't quite understand the presence of kids on a jailhouse and whiskey tour, but the group was ready to dive into the history. The tour kicked off with chilling news of hauntings. Our guide mentioned that the show "Ghost Hunters" had even visited the site, certifying the old jail as haunted--though fortunately by "friendly" spirits. The sensory experience was a bit of a rollercoaster. I generally enjoy the scent of bourbon, and the initial aroma upon entering the distillery is quite pleasant. However, the main room where we spent a significant portion of the tour had a scent that was overwhelming and wholly unpleasant. That said, the content of the tour was good. It provided a well-balanced mix of intriguing historical facts about the prison and the technical side of whiskey making. The kids got restless during the tour and actually started brutally kicking each other in the shins. They each had on shell toed Crocs, so you could hear the crunch of bone and flesh beneath each kick. Their parents let it go on indefinitely. The hour passed quickly and was well worth the $14 adult admission. The tasting at the end is not for the faint of heart. They serve hard liquor, and I do mean HARD. My lips were numbing and my face was next. I had to tap out after the third swig! On the bright side, the gift shop is fantastic. They have the most darling items; we walked away with two tote bags and a delicious pink lemonade drink that will be perfect for sharing with friends this summer. This is a unique, affordable way to spend an hour, provided you can handle the heat and the high proof!
