We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. The items were mainly consolidated into main areas, anticipating that it would make it easier for the moving crew to quickly pack and move the items to the trailer. They were here for over 9 hours, packed the truck half full vertically, but filled the 28 foot horizontally. This is something I would expect from college kids who have zero experience as you get charged every foot horizontally you take up in cross country moves. So now, not only are we out $2300 for these movers, we are out an extra 3k because they used twice the amount of space that was actually needed if they had done it correctly. Military and families and federal employees- go anywhere else. This was an absolute disaster.
