The owner is amiable and I asked for Gajar ka Halwa which is not on their menu but he happily agreed and made delicious Halwa for us. I think Great India is the best Indian restaurant in Utah! It may be on me for going mild first trip on their food but it was almost flavorless. The chicken wasn't very tender and more felt like an add in than cooked in the sauce. I have been to Great India 3 times and have always been impressed with the food, service and hospitality provided by the owners. The first time we were in was near closing time ( my son, my self and my wife (who was very ill-having had chemotherapy earlier, but was very hungry). The owner allowed us to order even though it was late; many dishes were ordered because we wanted my wife to taste and eat what ever she wanted/or could tolerate). We love Indian food! We came here to try a newer place. Clean. Friendly staff. A lot if great choices. Hubby really like his chicken tikka masala. He ordered garlic nana. The best we've ever had. I had the plain, though it was covered in butter. It was very good, but I had asked for plain. We started with the appetizer sampler plate. Very good, though the sauce and chutney were very thick. I liked it, but hubby prefers a little thinner. Still yummy. I had the chicken biriyani. It was ok. I admit being rather disappointed with it. A lot of cilantro sprinkled on top, which is fine. A fair amount of chicken. The amount of the rest...raisins, nuts, and assorted veg was a bare minimum. Green and red bell peppers? I've never had that in biriyani before. No big deal. I pulled them out. 2 pea pods in the entire dish. What made it most disappointing was that hubby asked for medium spice and his hardly had spice. I asked for mild, but it was so spicy, my tongue hurt. I brought the rest home for someone else to eat. It was a bummer. I don't believe in wasting all of that. This place is such a phenomenal new addition to this area!!! What a GEM!! We have hit every Indian restaurant in the valley and we have our favorite but this place may be very near equivalent. An absolutely fantastic lunch/Sunday option which isn't always available with other Indian restaurants plus they have CHAAT and it's DELICIOUS!!! I was in the area and decided that this would be a good spot for lunch. It was quiet cuz it was after the lunch rush, it was ver clean and welcoming. I LOVE decor in places like this, and they had some, but I would love to see even more. The service was warm and welcoming, and I felt appreciated for coming in for lunch. I got a coconut chicken curry with rice and garlic naan. I got my food pretty quickly, and it was fresh as can be. Everything was INCREDIBLE, I absolutely love the garlic naan, and the flavors in the curry were spot on. Even the rice was amazing... aromatic, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My fiance and I were craving indian food and we stumbled across Great India. We ordered the vegan vegetable masala, chicken tikka masala, garlic chili naan, and paratha. And wow!!! Our cravings and expectations were not only met, but were exceeded with amazing flavor. The portions were large and very filling. The taste was complex and authentic. We also received a large side of jasmine rice with our meal that wonderfully complimented the other parts of our order. If you're vegan or vegetarian this is a fantastic place to order from. I cannot say enough great things about this place. I would have given 5 stars, however, the pricing is expensive. They do give you great portions for what you're paying for, but it is a bit overpriced in my opinion. Other than that, everything came out great. read more

My husband and I took a friend's recommendation and tried Great India while visiting Midvale, UT. The food was excellent and we were not disappointed. I really want to love this place but the service was so horrible it's hard to overlook. I basically had the entire place to myself and the young woman sat me at a tiny table right under the tv that was so loud. I was ready to order but she immediately went to clean a table. I figured someone else was coming cause she could see I was just sitting there. I finally after 10 min said, do I need to order at the counter? She said no, I was just cleaning. She doesn't have a grasp of the menu or how spicy goes. Needless to say, I ordered extra hot and there was zero heat. The food was average with marginal spicing. Don't think I'll be back. And found a plastic rapping in my food. And the Kheer was all liquid. At least the saag wasn't crazy salty. The young lady, not once asked how the food was or anything. What were the odds a Indian restaurant right next our hotel would have all five star reviews? We were excited because we can't get good Indian food where we are from. The service was excellent. The food was so good and fragrant. It was obvious they used very fresh ingredients. As an example, the chicken pakora wasn't the over fried, dry, chicken nugget like you get at other places - it was hand cut moist chicken lightly friend with great flavors. The dipping sauces it came with were amazing, one just the right bit of savory and the other a fresh cool refreshing mint. That was just the appetizer! The tandoori (lamb in our case) again wasn't a dried out mess, it had been cooked just the right amount to get a little sear and crisp on the outside while remaining tender and moist inside. It's cooked by someone who cares and bothers sourcing fresh ingredients. The peppers and onions had been cooked just enough to be al dente and meld with the oils and seasonings. We had several other dishes, all delicious. Their mango and strawberry lassis were great, fresh cool and refreshing. Obviously made with real fresh fruits. Great service, pronounced flavors... none of that vanilla crap you get from going to some food chain like panda, Olive Garden, Chilis... blaaaahhhhh. But this place is actually delicious! This is definitely the place to go if you want to pay premium price ($17) for a smallish type of dish, with small amount of meat, in a place with zero-atmosphere (read strip mall), and of questionable cleanliness. The second star is because the staff is mostly friendly, and the sauce did have some flavor. But the bottom line is that it is way over-priced for what you get. Some top-notch Indian restaurants in nice areas are charging less than that. read more
