The counter customer service was very good. The sandwich menu was limited and they didn't have much of a selection of meats. I ordered a sandwich with sliced chicken and bacon. The sandwich was tasty, but the bacon was not crispy and there wasn't much on the sandwich so I would not order it again. The breads and sweet treats looked incredible. And the drink menu, that's where it is at. There was some seating inside and a lot outside. Our table wasn't clean during the busy lunch hour. My husband and I wanted a cinnamon roll so we found this place. The roll was filling and it tasted healthy in that they used wheat bread. They did not have pecans, however they offered walnuts which was good. It was warmed for us, which was nice. It was not overly sweet but satisfying. It gave Cafe vibes. This is my favourite sandwich place EVER! I lived in Burlington back in the early 2000s, and I was THRILLED to see this place was still up & running and amazing as ever. During our weekend visit to Burlington, we came here TWICE because it is just THAT good. Both times I got a ham & cheddar sandwich, and my partner got a BLT and a grilled cheese. The meats and cheeses are cut thick, which I like, and all of the ingredients (veggies etc.) taste super fresh. The bread is fantastic, baked right in house. We also tried their maple latte and cappuccino, and both were very good. You've GOT to have maple flavoured coffee when in Vermont! The workers were friendly and helpful, and the wait for our order was not long at all. They have a cute outside set up with wooden benches and tables, super comfy and aesthetically pleasing. It's really great eating there on a nice beautiful day. I'm always sad when a VT visit comes to an end, but when I come back, I'm running to Great Harvest asap for another delicious sandwich. read more

Yummy! We ordered the veggie Sammies to go for our drive back to PA and we also bought some sourdough bread, a cinnamon roll and a gluten free chocolate peanut butter cookie. The service was super friendly and the bakery is in an easy place to get to with ample parking. I'm not a big bread person - I'll eat it as something accompanying delicious cold cuts, to mop up a creamy soup, or as a sweet dessert, but I rarely if ever eat it stand-alone. That defeats the purpose of bread, for me. Little did I know the wonders of what great bread could do for one's soul - I learned it here at Great Harvest Bread Co. It had been 2 full years since I first came here on my last visit to Vermont, but I think my brain had convinced myself that bread wasn't necessary to prevent the longing for their freshly baked selection. Bread is baked fresh every morning, with leftovers being donated on Sunday nights. We arrived on Monday morning expecting to pick up a loaf at 7:30 AM, but they had informed us of the fresh baking process. On any other given day, they're up at 4AM to get le pain quotidian ready. Luckily, we had a taste of it from Saturday when we came. They offer customer's free slices to try as they're waiting - and when I say free slices, I don't mean your meager Krasdale limp 1 cm slices, but I mean full on inch thick slices with creamy butter on the counter to boot. I tried the Dakota and was blown away at how great bread could taste. When we were ready, we each got a different Panini since breakfast had already ended, and I was so thankful for having chosen the Nor-Easter (turkey, red onion, smoky tomato chutney and cheddar on Honey Whole Wheat). Wow. So much flavor packed into a deceivingly filling deli sandwich. But I am wrong. It's so much more. The tomato chutney gives an amazing sweetness that balances with the saltiness of the tomato and zing of the onion. Overall, great sandwich. When we came again on Monday morning, we got the Lg Coffee + egg sandwich special via Yelp (be careful, it's a deal, NOT both free items). And were also satisfied with the life choices we were making. Genuinely, you cannot go wrong with anything at Great Harvest and the people who work and own this place are so kind and warm. The baked goods here are good but not out of this world mind blowing as I expected them to be. The scones were really dry. The monkey bread and pumpkin morning glory were both decent. Unbelievably good!! This is a great place to visit especially on a cold rainy day. As you walk in the door, just the aroma hooks you. Add samples that are as large as life, before you leave this place, you will have purchased at least 5 loaves of bread! The five of us ate at least a whole loaf of samples. The coconut almond tea bread is absolutely delicious. You can't leave without a loaf of this. They also have a great menu for lunch with sandwiches made out these breads. There is also a large sample of teas and coffees to complete your lunch. The bread company is located in an industrial part of town where there are streets of warehouses. It seems like businesses like this are slowly moving in. After our "bread" treat, we went a across the way to a glassblowing company. That was also fun. read more

The staff was very helpful in helping me make my decision. I got the endless summer panini and my boyfriend got the Green Goddess with turkey. While we were waiting for the food we each got a HUGE sample of the cinnamon swirl bread. I regret not getting a loaf to take home. It was mouth watering. Wow. Right away our paninis came. Wow. DELICIOUS. The endless summer panini I got had pesto, tomatoes , and cheese. It was toasted to perfection. I would recommend this panini. I tasted my boyfriends panini and it was so good too! My wife turned me on to Great Harvest Bread Company in Evanston, IL. We loved it. While living in Boston, we discovered there was a GHBC close, but we never made the trek to where ever it was in Massachusetts. We moved to Burlington and made a comment that we never went to GHBC and much to our surprise, when we got here, Great Harvest was waiting for us! Our favorite bread is the staple Cinnamon Bread. But we get our weekly sandwich bread here as well. They will slice it for you or you can take it unsliced. You can try bread for free. Ask for a "Yep" card and after buying 12 loaves you get one free. This is more than a bakery, it is also a deli where you can get sandwiches, salads and soups. I love the tuna salad sandwich. I have been here twice now (yes in the course of three days but who is counting) and I am thoroughly impressed with the bakery. It is a fantastic space that has some customer accommodation in the shop but is mainly focused on baking bread. Not necessarily the place to hang out and study. The sandwiches are amazing. Between my partner and I, we tried two of the lunch sandwiches and the breakfast sandwich as well (with bacon of course). They are all hearty and on excellent bread. They are made like paninis but felt much more substantial to me. On top of that, the staff is very friendly and seems genuinely customer oriented. There are a wide variety of breads to pick from but they are a bit more expensive than a loaf from the grocery ($7-$8 as of Oct 2017). If you aren't sure what bread you want, feel free to try a complimentary slice. There are a number of breads or baked goods offered for sampling up front along with butter which will melt right into the warm slice. The gouda-apple bread was absolutely amazing with large chunks of both mixed into the dough. Did I mention the free slices are huge? They are. The Cha Cha Cha is incredible. Their daily baked breads and pastries are some of the best in Burlington. I'm not going to lie, my bf and I came here once, maybe twice, no definitely more than that to come and get a sample of their bread. Yes, they will cut you a very generous slice of whatever bread you would like to sample. They have a big bowl of butter on the side if you are lucky enough to get a slice of warm bread to lather it with. Our hands down favorites were the almond babka (which they only serve once a week) and the cinnamon swirl which they serve every day. The almond babka bread is pillowy, a little doughy, and filled with an almond/sugar/butter mix. It is addicting, especially if you get it right out of the oven. I would have to take it away from my bf before he ate half the loaf. Put a little butter on it and voila, its like bread heaven. The cinnamon is always good too. It filled with cinnamon, cinnamon, sugar, and more cinnamon and tastes great as toast. They also serve a variety of scones, muffins, and cookies which change daily as well as sandwiches which are okay, but nothing special. Since all of the ingredients are local and you do get to sample their bread, prices for the breads aren't cheap. Its about $6-7. I think the white loaf's may be a little cheaper. Prior to my initial visit, I had seen GH stock at local grocery stores but had never purchased, only lusted for their corn bread from afar. I resolved to visit the actually store since I like buying directly from purveyors. Holy s--t was I right to do so!!! Interior: it is so comfortable and warm. The kitchen is open so you can see what the bakers are working on. To the right is a sandwich station (haven't used so can tell you pricing info) and to the left is a seating area. It's definitely a comfortable feeling inside, nice and simple, unlike some of the other bakeries in the area. Service: now, I'm sure everyone posts this but they offer FREE SAMPLES when you get to the counter. It ranges from a variety of breads to other baked goods depending on when you get there/what is in stock. Best of all, there is a bowl(!) of butter and a bottle of honey for you to enjoy on your warm sample of bread. It doesn't stop there--the samples are excellently portioned so that you can truly get an idea of the heartiness of the product. I also have to say the staff make the experience exponentially better. Having only been in twice, I can't say this is true all the time but the people working were genuinely friendly and want to make sure you get a great service/eating experience. The person helping me did not hesitate when I asked for a description of EVERYTHING on the shelf that day as well as to give me recommendations. The thing about GH is that, service wise, I didn't not feel like just another customer. I did not feel like they were trying to rush me out or ignore me because I told them I was only browsing (many other shops have staff like this). Moreover, the interactions amongst the staff tell me that they enjoy working there and seem like they are all friends--yet another plus because it produces a fun loving, friendly atmosphere that I want to return to. Full of whole blue tries, super moist. I also tried the cheddar garlic bread--don't mess with this one! While the taste of garlic is not overwhelming at all, I noticed my own garlic breath long after I left the shop! If you like cheddar, this is a great choice---loads of cheddar chunks! Apple crunch loaf: I ate this in TWO days. My thighs are stilled mad at me. It's covered in brown sugar (crunch) and filled with chunks of Apple. They also mix in Apple sauce so the bread is super moist and had an amazing texture. Two. Days. Yum! Nine grain: I'm in love with this bread. They must put magic in it because I can't get enough. It's a wheat bread but much more. I'm drooling just thinking about it...this bread is uber hearty, extremely flavorful and downright worth every penny. Carrot roll: I love this idea. If you like carrot cake and love cream cheese frosting, you should try this. You are never wanting for frosting. The only downside for me was that it doesn't have nuts and/or raisins. That's just me! Final assessment: while prices are high, the quality of the product makes it worth every penny. The only downside to this is if you eat the bread to fast and have to go back every couple days to sate the demons lusting for more bread!!!
