I had a backup of a toilet and sink in my basement. The plumber I called suspected it might be the septic and opened the septic tank. It was full. I called Great Falls and they were able to come out same day. The technician, Mauricio Apolinares immediately diagnosed the problem as a blockage between the tank and the house. While the tank was fairly full he doubted that was what was causing the back up. He dug out the inlet access port and sure enough, the baffle that empties into the tank was completely clogged. Within a couple of hours of arriving we were back in business. Very impressed with their service. read more

DO NOT USE - Negligent and Dangerous We called Great Falls Septic (GFS) in May 2025 after our septic alarm went off. As first-time homeowners with a septic system, we relied on them for honest, professional help. Instead, we got deception, disrespect, and potential property damage. They came out, inspected the system, and said the pumps were fine but we needed the pit pumped and 3 float valves replaced. We were quoted $600 for the valves and $385 for the pump. We agreed and scheduled service for May 22. When the technician arrived, he unexpectedly demanded an extra $40 in cash for a hose that was supposedly needed to reach the bottom. He said the office gets angry if he doesn't collect money on every visit. We were confused and told him we already had a formal quote. He became rude and walked away mid-conversation. Without our knowledge or consent, the technician shut off both the septic pump and the alarm system--disabling the two systems that are meant to protect our home from sewage overflow. He then quietly left the property without saying a word. We only found out what had happened because the second company we hired confirmed it: * The pump was manually shut off. * The alarm was disabled. * Our system was left at risk of dangerous overflow. * No work had been done on the valves. When we called the office to report this, a woman named Debbie hung up on us. No explanation. No apology. Nothing. This wasn't a misunderstanding--it was willful negligence. GFS left our system compromised and our home at risk. We are filing a complaint with the Virginia Department of Health. If you value your home, your safety, and basic human decency, stay far away from GFS. read more

I had Great Falls Septic come and inspect my alternative septic system. The technician told me the ring compressor was not pumping air into the system and I needed to have it replaced. I got an estimate for $2500 - no data on parts, labor, etc. I researched it, found the ring compressor for $700 and replaced it myself in 20 minutes time. I am happy to pay professionals to provide services, but when they can't "fess up" to what I am paying for, forget it. I plan on finding a reputable company. read more

We have been using Great Falls Septic for several years now, both at our previous property & the one we are in now. They are extremely professional and really easy to work with. Every technician we had was knowledgeable. Recently, we had an overflow issue with our basement toilet. Upon an emergency call, Great Falls Septic technician came out for an inspection. Come to find out, we had a plumbing issue, but the company performed a free inspection and did not charge us for anything. It is difficult to find providers that are so gracious these days. I'd post negative stars if possible. From being given false diagnosis of needing $5,000 worth of new pumps. (We didn't); to failing to clean pipes and filters as laid for.... They actually ***caused*** a sewer clog that backed up disgusting sewage into our home after a routine pumping, due to their negligence. They lied about needed a new pump, when a second company came out and was honest about the much more minor repair that was needed. The technician lied and also failed to pump and clean properly. They then left us hanging form more than a week to come solve the problem. As of this writing, they still have not solved the problem and don't seem to care. Stay clear of this dishonest and unethical company. I'll update they do anything to change my impression. read more

I originally called another septic company to do my five year pump out of the septic tank. This was our first time having this done because we didn't own the home the last time the septic was pumped. The other company was so incompetent and couldn't find the hole to pump out the septic tank after looking for about 15 minutes. They told me they would need to git a backhoe to come out a dig. I assured him that I remember the selling real estate agent telling me that the previous company that did the work didn't have to go through all that hassle. I was able to find out that the previous company that did the work was Great Falls Septic Service so I gave them a call. The technician was able to find the septic tank riser, which was buried about 10 inches down in about 2 minutes. I am extremely pleased with the service that I received. First time I have used this company. They performed a real estate inspection for me. They were a very trusting company and their process to setup the appointment was very easy. All of the representatives I dealt with were professional and helpful. To avoid any confusion, my tip is to make sure you let the company know if you have a septic tank larger than 1500 gallons and that you want your filter cleaned during any pump out. Also, inform them if you will need an extended hose to reach the tank caps and ask for a fixed estimate, and appointment time window. Leo performed my inspection and was very knowledgeable about alternative septic systems. They are certified for standard and alternative systems which is great. Leo showed up on time. Great Falls Septic is the absolute best! My family and I have been using these folks for 45 years and they just keep getting better. I have a house under contract and GFS recently replaced the distribution box on my septic system for less than half of the estimate obtained by the buyers. They are fast, efficient, friendly, thorough, and totally customer service oriented. Almost universally speaking, septic problems on weekends are never a good thing. Our basement started flooding and we discovered it as a septic issue. I started calling around -- most businesses could not help until several days later. I finally called Josh at Great Falls Septic's emergency line. I was not here when he did the service but he called me when he was done and went over everything. He even took a photo of where the entry cover was located and texted it to me as we were not sure exactly where it was. While the desk/phone staff are occasionally nice, often times they are not. I received multiple very rude messages from them (because they weren't calling the number I asked them to) for an appointment I didn't know we had. We had our well tested and treated - to the tune of $475 - by them and the well test after the treatment failed, which we also paid for ($200). At that point we called the county who recommended another company to us. They came out and tested the water with COMPLETELY different procedures, and when we asked about how Great Falls tested they informed us that they had done it incorrectly and in a way that usually results in failures. Needless to say, the test from the new company came back fine. We initially paid for the test, treatment and the second test but found out the day before closing that our seller had to pay for it. We thought things were worked out... but they cashed our checks and then I never heard from them. I called a couple weeks later to find out where my money was and they told me "its going in the mail today"...of course it is. When I asked them about the amount they told me way less ($200) than what they had ($675). They said they never cashed the check for $475...they did, I checked my bank account. They ended up refunding the money but I still feel like they screwed us from the beginning. With poor customer service on top of that I will look elsewhere... read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. Be careful with them. They came out when our pumps were dead on a Saturday. Charged $600 to diagnose and pump our system. Ok, I get it is a weekend call. Then they told us they had to check with the health department to see what pumps we had and would call us Monday. They called us Monday and gave us the pump models and said it would be $1800 EACH to replace them. We decided to do it ourselves and wouldn't you know, they lied about what pumps we had. The pumps they quoted are $1000 pumps - so they were still marking it up $800 each to install. The exact pumps that have been in here are $400 pumps. So, it cost us 25% of what their quote was to do it ourselves. They certainly are in the right business. I will never use them for anything ever again. Enjoy the $600 from the emergency call, it is the last dime you will get from us. read more

These guys will do bare minimum to pass an inspection, when system fails they are nowhere to be found. I ended up replacing my entire septic line on a home that was built in 2018 and only thing I heard from the supervisor was "well it passed inspection and there is nothing I can do at this time". GF septic pumped my tank in march 2016... they failed to mention the tank lid had a gap and it was not sealing. Additionally numerous times I called to ask about redoing our septic diverter valve and boxes and after a few months finally received a quote. Went with a more responsive company and during pump down of septic tank was told it looked like tank had not been pumped. Will not call them again. read more

We rebuilt our home and moved back in 8 yrs ago. GF Septic did the design/installation of our system and they provided the 5-yr pump out service. We recently had a back up into the garage and GF Septic came out and fixed the problem. A couple of issues that caused us to re-evaluate this vendor: a) my husband called the "emergency" line at 6 pm on Wed and was told they would be out first thing on Thurs -- they showed up at 10:45; not a biggie, but I'm not sure it warranted the "emergency" price of $395; b) the problem was that our filter was clogged and I was asked when was the last time it was cleaned; my husband was not happy as he was never informed about this maintenance item and he felt that there were numerous opportunities for GF Septic to let him know (like when they did the 5-yr pump out). I think the final straw for my husband was when the office called and complained that we hadn't paid them and that their work was COD. He pointed out to the clerk that we had not been asked to pay and we would be happy to pay the bill, once it is presented . . . she emailed it to him and it was paid. read more

I have called them twice for what I thought were septic problems - and both times they talked me through several steps of trouble shooting, once helping me fix the issue without them coming out, and the second time helping me identify the problem without them coming. Neither time was I given a bill. This for me is a high level of professionalism and customer service - which I really appreciate. After several hours we called again and was told that their truck broke down. We never received a courtesy call to let us know this! We scheduled another day. They did not show up. Courteous, professional and very experienced! Josh and Leo worked very well as a team to properly diagnose my septic problems and subsequently correct them quickly and effectively. I had to change two pumps, the floats and also replaced the cement lid. They also checked the check valves and told me that it wasn't necessary to change them at this time. Total scam! These guys failed our tank and tried to get us to buy a new one from them. We just had the tank inspected the year before by another company and it passed with flying colors. Needless to say, not only did we get a second opinion but we also had a county health inspector come out and take a look. They both confirmed that the tank still had 5-7 years of life left in it. When they asked me who did the initial inspection, they were not surprised to hear that it was Great Falls septic. Unethical! read more

WORST septic company in Loudoun County. We had a new, alternative system, to the tune of $36,000 installed which they said would take 2 weeks to install and has now taken 8 weeks and is not complete. They had to install 3 different tanks as each one, from their concrete manufacturer had a leak, still not sure if I have a tank in the ground that doesn't leak. They did not make me aware of the third tank, instead I found out from another one of my contractors on the job site that they were installing yet another tank. They told my contractor that they had informed me, they had not even simply called me (as we are not living in the house yet), so they lied about that. They have been gone from the job now for over 10 days and have yet to come and clean up their mess in my yard as well as to remove their leftover equipment from my yard. Do yourself a favor and hire another septic company, they are not even on Loudoun County's list of companies that are certified to inspect these alternative systems. Worst experience ever, don't bother to call the owner, Mr. Hott, he is only full of excuses, no solutions and extremely rude. read more

I had a problem with my pumps not working after I accidentally hit the control ground wire on a home project. I reconnected the bad wire but couldn't get the pump system to work and my sewage tank was filling up and ready to backup into the house. I called Great Falls and within two hours they sent two technicians to my home on a Friday. They quickly located the problem in the system control box and the pumps began working immediately. They even provided me with a tutorial of how my entire sewage system works. The charge? - NOTHING! it was free! They said they were already in the area and didn't even charge me for a service call! I have had Great Falls Septic service my sewage system for over 20 years which includes pumping out the system several times and replacing my pumps about 7 years ago. They have always been prompt, courteous, informative and the most reasonably priced. I highly recommend this company. read more

They are by far the best at what they do. It's also nice that they are one of the last remaining family-owned businesses around here. They are prompt, diligent, and explain exactly the diagnosis of the issue. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day my emergencies have been, they've sent someone to assist me in the most timely fashion. Unlike some of the other companies out there, they will not nickle and dime you. They are extremely fair in pricing, and they only suggest the absolute necessities when assessing your septic system. I had someone come out and actually save me money by suggesting minor repairs to my system when other septic companies had told me that I NEEDED a whole new system. Instead of trying to make more money off of a homeowner, Great Falls Septic saved me money and frustration! I've been extremely happy with their crews, and I've actually learned a lot by the repair guys (Josh and Leo, I believe) who have come out and taken ample time to explain the problem and different repair options.
