I have never written a review before but this time a felt compel to do so. Today when I tried to have my 5 year old son's hair cut I was discriminated against. The lady saw that I was next in line but decided to help the white customer behind me and scheduled him in for the next available appointment, acting like I was not even there. They should have a sign on the door that says "white people only!" I appreciate your apology, however that was not the case. The customer behind me was requesting to be on the waiting list, as I was. Great service all around! Both me and my wife got our haircut from this place last week and we were really happy and satisfied. The staff here is very friendly and while cutting hair, they try to engage with the customer and create a relationship, not like other hair salons where they try to get rid of you by cutting your hair in 5 minutes and moving onto the next person in line. The prices are affordable. Overall, I would keep coming back here! Just read some of the negatives and I am surprised. They definitely do not have poor service and discrimination is the last thing I saw when I went there last weekend. Tom is a straight up savage. I've visited dozens of barber shops over the years, paid upwards of $80 for a cut, all in search of the elusive "regular white guy" hair cut. Just nice and neat and short on the sides, with a little bit longer on the top. Nothing crazy. No place has been able to do it to my liking. Cheap places are sloppy, expensive places leave too much. I decided to give this place a shot and came in one day. It may've been a coincidence but the barber, Tom, had the EXACT haircut I was looking for. I said "cut my hair so that it looks like yours". 20 minutes later I had the perfect haircut, for 20 bucks including tip. I think they have this computer system where they input how they cut your hair, so every time I go back, I get it cut the same way. All in all, great cut for a great price. First time at Great Clips ever and was greeted as bland as it possibly could considering heavy foot traffic in the evening. About my experience: Hairstylist: Gerardo S. Haircut: simple #2 cut on the sides and short on top that eventually turned out to be #3 with some adjustments using mostly clippers and one scissor style. I've had better with different scissors to even things out along the process. Overall, haircut was decent, nothing special. Customer service: started out well with intro., proceeded to tell me how previous customer offended his ethnicity when asked if he was someone else other than who he looks like, and pretended to ask if there's any other changes or adjustments I wanted to make after the haircut to which I agreed to some changes BUT it came with an attitude cuz after a couple of changes, he constantly made commented about how he doesn't know what I want or like and wished I had told him how I wanted my haircut in the beginning so he doesn't have to spend that much time with me stating that it was "five haircuts in one" after a few adjustments were made. I wasn't even close to being nitpicking on some cuts here and there. Let's just say the comment made me feel like my business is not wanted or appreciated. Cashiering: I should've just took the change with me instead of asking him to break the $5 so I could give him some tips. Not sure if he knows how to work the register since he seems kinda lost or if he just didn't appreciate what I gave him as he kept quiet, not a word of anything as he can't wait for me to leave so he could take the next customer. License: while getting haircut, an expired license from last year was displayed openly. That makes me wonder what type of barbers Great Clips is hiring. Would I go back for a $16 haircut after the promotion ends? Highly not worth the price or customer service from Gerardo to revisit. But can't say for other friendlier hairdressers since I've only had ONE experience. Could be a hit or miss during your time of visit. read more

They are horrible!!! I asked for a zero on the sides.... I ended up with stairs on top of my ears. She washed my hair then dropped water all over my t shirt. After the rinse, she made a correction without the covering me up. So I got hair all over a wet shirt plus stairs looking sides for 16 bucks. read more

Its about time a Great Clips opened in Millbrae! FINALLY, I don't have to drive all the way to Foster City to get an affordable professional haircut. I was greeted immediately as I entered, and the lady at the front (Shama) really made me feel welcomed. I didn't have to wait long for a haircut either, maybe a maximum of 10 mins. Once my name was called I was approached by the stylist, Jerry. He did a great job cutting my hair, my expectations were low going into it but he far exceeded them! I got a number of compliments from friends and co workers about how good it looked. Thanks Jerry! I'm looking forward to coming back for great haircuts! PS They have great discounts and deals going on right now I got my haircut for $4.99!!! Are you out of your mind?!?!! :-) It was well worth it! Sometimes you go to a place and if the service is not up to par, you can simply not review it and not return. However, this place's poor service is noteworthy so that leaving the public uninformed would affect my conscience. There's a reason for the 1-star reviews prior to this one. Just like other people I went here to take advantage of their limited time coupons. Requested my head shaved with a "zero"/no clip. When I got home there were uneven spots. How does someone mess up a simple shave?? Pay attention parents: if you still choose to give your hard earned money to Great Clips Millbrae, do not go to the Hispanic, 40-50 yr old something woman. Absolutely unacceptable bed side manner when dealing with my son (3.5 yrs old). She hit all the check marks: no smiling, no attempt at rappoire building to even make the task easier for herself, no patience, shoddy work (had to put my son back in the chair because of missed spots, uneven strands, etc). Here's the kicker: My son sits pretty still for his age, but a kid is still a kid. Any parent or professional service whose clientele includes children would understand that. This woman kept making snappish comments to him to stop moving. My other son, 2.5 yrs, was wandering around for a few minutes and she had the audacity to tell my wife, "mommy, watch your child"; and then began to preach in a snotty tone about insurance liability to not only me, but to my TODDLER son! My wife was already walking as fast as she could to get him before the woman started snapping. I highly doubt this woman has had children of her own. I repeat, this place is NOT GOOD FOR CHILDREN. Also noteworthy, she was distracted at one point during my haircut and for a few seconds left the hot buzzer burning on my scalp!! WTF. FAIL on almost every level. Ease of parking was good, afterall. I went to Great Clips San Mateo before and their quality of work and service dwarfed Millbrae's, night and day difference. read more

GC's management contacted me very soon after posting my negative review. They wanted to see if I would come in and get my hair fixed. Up to this point, I never went back in to get a bad cut fixed. I figure my hair would just grow back so no biggie. However, I have an important appt to keep on Monday and didn't want to look like I crawled under from a rock in La Honda. Shama did a nice job fixing my hair. It now looks like a real A-line bob. She also dried and styled to show me, my hair is even on both sides. Got a haircut when this place first opened. Decided to get a #2 on the sides and 1" off the top. Initially the fade was alittle off, but when I brought it to the stylist attention it was quickly fixed. Place was clean and a short wait....which is Always a Plus in my book. I've come to this Great Clips twice now, both times requesting Tom. Tom's excellent; he listens closely to what I'm looking for and asks for feedback throughout the cut. The pricing isn't too bad either compared to other places and you definitely get more than what you pay for. I got the Great Clips gift card which is $50 and each cut comes out to about $15-$17 before tip. I will definitely be back unless service significantly drops off or the prices rise. read more

I've come here a few times with a pretty decent result. They aren't great, but it's quick, relatively inexpensive, and convenient. If you plan to get your haircut here, just try to avoid Linda. I've had my hair cut twice by her, and both times I've gone home to find that the sides are uneven and that there are patches of untrimmed hair around my ears. read more

He cut and styled it just the way I wanted. Another stylist - Amanda was super helpful in discussing products with me and what best suited my hair. If you are looking for a good hair cut look elsewhere. I went here several times with different barbers each time but the result was still mediocre at best. The latest time I went was the worst. When he was cutting my hair it was clear that he just wanted to cut it and get me out. I was not even asking for anything fancy. Just a simple cut where I can just comb my hair to the side in the morning and be done with it. When i asked him to adjust the cut as i had a cowlick he simply said "You can just use gel to form it." What kind of work ethic is this? It was clear I was not welcome, so I said ok on the 6th time he asked if the cut was ok and if we were done. Then I paid him and left. I would have given this place 2 stars because of how fast they are but since they fail at even giving even a decent cut it gets 1 star. read more

If I could get away with not giving a star for this horrible experience I would. I've brought my son here before and we had a great experience but yesterday was ridiculous. My son has been growing out his hair for awhile now and all he wanted was a trim and he wanted his sides cleaned up. I explained to the lady that he has curly hair and only wants a trim and a one on his sides. She said okay. I specifically explained that the top of his hair needs only a trim!!!! She finished my son got out of the chair and he was so upset. She literally cut off 3-4 inches of length. My son said mom don't say anything let's just go. I paid, tipped her even though he was visually upset about his hair. We walked outside and that's when I saw the back of his head was cut uneven. Literally looked like he had a Flock of Seagulls look. I took him back in I asked her to fix please. And of course she's looking at it as it she can't tell that's it's uneven. I said I'd like my money back as well. So she said let me take some pictures so I can send the pics to my boss. She tells me that she'll have to cut off more, I was so upset. She attempts to fix it and it just gets worse! I told her just to buzz his hair. My son was so upset. So now I'd like my money back, and she doesn't have authorization to do that. So she proceeds to tell me that I'd have to come back for my refund but before that she was speaking to her manager over the phone and once she got off she said, and I quote, " my manager will look at the pictures and DECIDE wether or not she will give me a refund." That was it! I was over it. I said my son is unhappy with the cut you gave him. He came in with hair and now is walking out with a buzzed hair cut. And you're telling me that she needs to decide? Wow! Keep your money Great Clips! I can see that maybe I should pay more attention to previous reviews. Truly disappointed! And of course, no call from the manager. The salon I had been going to for a couple of years had just raised their prices and kicked out my main stylist, so I was feeling desperate and nervous about finding a new salon to check out. I had just moved into the area, and was low on money so I thought I would just suck it up and check this place out. When I walked in I was surprised to see how inviting and clean the place was, and happy that they were able to take me right away without an appointment. I have really long thick hair so I hate when stylists stubbornly stick to razors which thins on the bottom of my hair, so I felt really optimistic when the stylist agreed with me and told me that she would fix my hair and make it look even thicker. She suggested I get more layers which I was a little worried about because I wanted my hair to look longer, but I agreed and it actually ended up making my hair look longer! I was really surprised that a place like this could give me the same look as a high end salon and less than half the price! I will definitely be coming back here again and more often since I won't have to spend half my paychecks on haircuts anymore! read more

This place is great. I was there when it first opened and used their 4.99 offer. At first I was skeptical about a 4.99 haircut, but shit, I figured what the hell, might as well. I was greeted at the door, and the owners despite them being busy, made an effort to welcome everyone, which I thought was great. The haircut itself was great. I told the stylist, exactly what I wanted as I am very specific, and he cut my hair exactly to what I want. I would definitively go there again when the promotion price expires. In fact I'm due for another haircut soon, so I guess I'll be seeing them soon. Plus the location is great, plenty of free parking and a coffee shop right there to. read more

Took my 11 year old son in for a Hair Cut on a Sunday. Was greeted by Laura. She (Laura) asked for much person information so they can "track how they cut his hair" which sounds a bit fishy to me as no one else asks for this information in a hair cut establishment. I declined to provide that information. She asked for his first name and I gave it. Then she said, "Well, I'll just call him a John Doe then". I asked her to repeat herself and she did. My son was shocked and upset as was I. I told her to never call my son on anyone that. She thought it was funny and ok to do so. I told her she rude and obnoxious and we will never use their business. She did not seem to care. I called the store manager, Shama today and told her the situation. She was more concerned about losing the business and invited me to bring my son back and assured me we would not have to give out personal information. I asked her is she realizes what a horrible this her employee call me son. She said "yes and I'll talk to her", then switched her focus back on getting us back in to profit from a haircut. I will never go to this place again. These people are sick. Laura should be terminated for saying such a thing to a customer and is lucky no one has responded to her in a angry and violent manner. Signed in on the Great Clip app Sunday afternoon and it showed a 20 minute wait. When I arrived spoke with the woman at the front desk to confirm I had logged in. Everyone that was all ready there were called, then customers who arrived after me were called. By this time I had waited 30 minutes. Another customer who had just arrived was called. There is this old asian guy with gray hair. I'd recommend you to really be specific and stick to the hair cut you want because this man tries to do something else with your hair something he wants and it shouldn't be like that, its your cut! And ur gonna b stuck with it right? Every time I went there, he was always wanted to trim my hair more than I wanted and i always had to tell him no:) (which is really annoying because he would ask me like 3 times and i had to keep telling him no) anyways good luck here I personally will not b coming back the price is high and the asian man starts to get rude when things get complicated.
