Unfortunately, I have to give this place a one star. I came in to this specific location because they provide a free cut for those who donates their hair to a cause like Locks of Love. The gentleman snipped my hair in 4 sections and evened out the remaining hair. Then as I tipped him for helping me, there was two ladies who yelled after me and said that I still had to pay $26 despite the company saying that it's free for donors. Not sure if they're trying to make money or quota but I'm baffled at this experience. I do not recommend this place at all. No offense to the man who agreed with me that it was supposed to be free. Unfortunately, those two ladies ruined the moment for me. Great Clips was not so great. read more

Dear Great Clips Management, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint about my recent experience at your Burlingame location. I paid for a haircut and unfortunately felt very uncomfortable and embarrassed by the behavior of the person (Lee)who cut my hair. The stylist was quite rude to me and loudly insisted that I was obligated to give a tip, regardless of whether I was satisfied with the service or not. She even raised her voice at me in front of another colleague in the salon, which was quite embarrassing. I initially gave her about 10% as a tip, and after her insistence and the awkward situation, I ended up giving a bit more. I fully understand that tipping is part of how employees earn their income, but I do not believe a customer should be pressured or treated without respect over it. It's quite unprofessional to have someone literally raise their voice at a client to demand a tip. I hope you can address this issue with your staff to ensure no other customer has to go through a similar experience. Thank you for your attention. read more

I can't believe how expensive it is to get a haircut at many salons here in this area! $90-$100 for a quick haircut at most places is outrageous!! I needed a cut on a budget and walked into the store and was kindly greeted and got my haircut right away with no wait. I brought my son in for a hair cuts. Miss Hoangkim Nguyen is cutting my son hair. At first he was scared but after a few minutes Ms. Kim talking with my son to cheer him up and he did get his hair cut. He was happy with her service and he was smiling and very happy with result. Used to go here all the time to have haircut with Jenny. She was the best. Then my son went there and got a terrible haircut with someone else. She didnt listen to him at all and he left feeling terrible about his hair. Why dont they ask what people want before cutting it??? They claim to keep all that info so that when you go back you can get the same haircut and preferences saved, but they dont listen at all. Not sure if Jenny still works there, but she was great. Went to get my hair cut by Jenny, but she left a month ago. One of the women, who is a regular stylist there, persuades me to have "Karen?" cut my hair. I learn that Karen has been there 3 weeks. I show Karen several picture of the cut, along with talking very specifically about have some softness by the ears, tapered and layered. She nods and appears to understand. She pulls out the electric clippers and completely cuts all around my ears so there is no softness at all. Then she proceeds to butcher my bangs. SHORT, not layered. SHORT! Not remotely like the pictures I showed her. The regular stylist who first guided me to Karen agreed it was too short. She said sorry. Sorry? A complete refund should have been offered. I hope that the 2 women understand that they need to listen to the customer. If the style wouldn't work, then discuss it, but this was not the case. Terrible experience, upsetting. Side note, Karen should not wear such strong perfume! My husband could smell it when I walked in...after he stopped laughing about my haircut. Her perfume is so overpowering that my throat is irritated. Save yourself and choose another stylist/location. read more

I have been coming here for years, but now it's clear that the checkin system is severely flawed. I checked in when I left my house (17 min wait) and drove here to arrive in 17 minutes. Then I get here and there is now a 24 minute wait because people arrived in person while I drove there. This makes no sense and this will be the last time I get my hair cut at Great Clips in Burlingame. The hair cuts don't make up for the fact I now took an hour out of my busy weekend to get my hair cut. As Seinfeld would say, "They don't have a problem taking the reservation. i've been going to this location for sometime now and I have been burned multiple times. there are six different Silas and I would say that two of them know how to cut hair. yeah I took my son in to get a haircut. I asked him to take a little off the top and cut the sides and follow the same style as his current haircut. he went ahead and my son a completely different haircut. My son is pretty upset, I'm not to happy. and if you're going to bypass, the customer has asked you to do and give the customer a completely different haircut you at least do it well. I've been here 7 times total and it's been 100% great! I used to go to barbershops but their appointment only policies are tiresome and inconvenient when you just need a quick clean up. I've had 3 different stylists at this location cut my hair and they've all been top notch! Coming from barbers the stylists at this location cut just as precise as my past barber did. The difference is price. I paid $45 plus tip at the barbershops, Great clips only charges $25. I usually tip $10 here and $15 if it's above and beyond. If you're a guy spending $40 at the barbers, save your money and try this place. You'd be amazed how your friends and coworkers would never believe that you got a haircut at a GreatClips No one believes me, their haircuts are literally that good! Which reminds me, I definitely need a haircut this weekend... Pro tip: Google search the exact haircut you want and bring it to their shop. I do that every single time I go. I am usual client and I have been coming here for years I originally had giving this place 5 stars but today I went in asking for a skin fade and I even showed the lady a photo as a reference (Asian lady that's been working there for a few years) , anyways the haircut feels super rushed and the end I can tell I have a huge junk of hair on the upper back of my head. I tell her "I don't like the way it looks, Can you trim it a little more ?" and she replies back "it won't look good if I go higher" (I have some scars that I don't mind showing) then she proceeds & rushes me out of the chair". I have gotten this hair cut done multiple times through out the years at this location without any issues . I ended up going to another place downtown San Mateo spending more $$$$ to correct what the lady refused to do. I am a disappointed and will most likely not return here. read more

I have been coming here for a while, mainly because it's close. Some of the stylists are ok, many are not. Unfriendly, not very competent. Hardly speak English and difficult to understand. They also try to lure you in telling you that you will be next when other people are in fact ahead of you. Unacceptable. If it's hard for them to be honest about when your turn will be, you have to wonder what else is going on there. This review is for Jenny only who I try to go to exclusively. She is skilled and doesn't rush. She takes her time to give you the best haircut possible. I like that she can give a good scissor cut or any length you prefer instead of the same buzzer cut others do because they're not as comfortable either scissors. I had an older Asian lady as my barber. I came in with long curly hair and told her I had paid for a perm a few months back and showed her a picture of the look I wanted. She barely looked at the picture for a second, saying "ok I got it," and then instantly cut the front way too short without asking for my preference. At this point, I knew my hair was ruined. My haircut looked absolutely nothing like the picture I had showed her. Even though she was aware that I had paid for a perm, she quickly cut off way too much hair without any clarification about what I wanted, and basically ignored the picture I showed her at the beginning. Jenny is literally the best. I refuse to go anywhere else. I now go to school in LA but I will always come home to go see Jenny because her work is so good it's basically mandatory for me to return. I used this location once and was satisfied with my haircut. Today I checked in using their app it said there was no waiting at the time but I used the app to check in anyway. I got there in about ten minutes. One man walked in just ahead of me ( he did not check in using the app). The proprietor took him ahead of me and told me I would have to wait another 10 to 15 minutes. What's the point of using the app if they don't use it to put you in the queue? read more

My sons' hair look terrible. Their hair is VERY uneven now. One of them is growing his hair, so we told the hairdresser to fix it just a little bit at the back, but she cut a lot at the back and on the sides. They rushed everything and didn't cut their hair the way we wanted. Also, they did not dry their hair, so we could not see the final look. This was our very first cut at Great Clip, Burlingame. I wish we could take my boys back to have them fix their hair, but I don't think they have the skills! We will never return. I do not recommend this shop at all. read more

I checked in online and drove to great clips in Burlingame. When I got there there was one person receiving and one person sitting in a chair not tending to any customers. Another customer came in and the woman who did not have a customer immediately jumped up told me that I needed to wait for the next person to be available and proceeded to take the guy that just walked in the door. She apparently was familiar with this person but that should not put him in front of me as I was already checked in. This is not the first time this is happened to me at Great Clips, it also happened in San Mateo. Great Clips online check in is useless. I brought my two kids in for haircuts, given the relatively low price and that my kids' hairstyles are straightforward (just long straight hair). We had two different stylists at the same time (one for each kid), and the common theme is that neither of them followed what we asked for. One of my kids asked them to cut her hair to her armpits and showed them what she meant. Well, the end result was that the hair was shoulder length, not below like my daughter had asked. My other daughter asked her stylist to cut off only 2 inches. Not only did she cut off FOUR inches, she also snapped at my daughter multiple times and said, "Kids these days." Seriously? My daughter is 10 and not a squirmy younger child, nor was my daughter disrespectful to her. I was there the entire time. The wrong haircuts might be forgiven (hair does grow) were it not for the very rude "stylist" who seems to have something against kids. Will not be back. read more
