My fiancé and I are very excited to be tying the knot in a couple of months, and we have chosen Fig…read moreTree Restaurant to do the catering for us. As part of this arrangement we were offered a chance to experience their tasting menu to help us get a feel for the food we will have on our Big Day. We drove all of the way from Brisbane, but I have to say it was definitely worth the trip! Walking into the restaurant was like being transported into a rustic, green fairy wonderland with flowers and homely detail surrounding us. Think lots of timber, delightfully aged glass and plenty of natural light. What stood out to us was the feel of the whole place. Everything felt soft but polished and "special". Like the most beautiful garden party. We were seated at a corner table and warmly greeted by the staff. We ordered some still water and were so impressed to find the chef came all of the way out to explain our menus and ensure he had all of my dietary requirements in order. We began with freshly baked bread (mine was the best gluten free bread I've ever had) with olive oil, truffle butter and olives presented on the most beautiful wooden board. It was so quaint! The truffle butter was sublime and I had to stop myself from eating it straight off my knife. The tomato and handmade mozzarella consume was so exciting. Delicate herbs are suspended in the clear liquid with the cheese sitting on the bottom. We grinned as we shot it down and were both raving about the intensity of flavour. The yellow fin tuna was another stand-out dish. The fish was so delicate and moreish and the miso yolk added a really bold flavour to everything. We were entranced by the greenery - some kind of plant I hadn't eaten before, but so crisp and delicious! I was very concious of not being able to finish everything, so I was eating around half of each dish. The waitress noticed and promised she could have half serves bought out for me. This was well beyond any service I've ever had, and I was truly thankful they catered to my teeny tummy so well! Unfortunately there was one dish that just didn't do it for either of us. The Bangalow sweet pork belly tasted a bit like a squishy rissole to us. The carrot inside was too crunchy - and rest assured we are not fans of mushy carrot! and the bean greenery tasted very woody. It may appeal to some palettes but it was a miss for us. But don't despair, the Tenterfield lamb brought us right back to magic territory! The meat fell off our forks and melted in our mouths. The vegetables were delicious and the rosemary jus tied everything together beautifully. My favourite dish of the day came next, the goats cheese brulee with figs and quinoa. This was a REVELATION. The salty cheese with the sweet caramel shell that cracked perfectly was just incredible. I loved how the freshness of the fig slices played off everything. The yoghurt, rose and white chocolate flower pot was the most amusing part of our tasting for sure! My fiancé was convinced it was purely for decoration and I had to call the wait staff over to assure him it was edible! The "soil" was dense and cool, and felt just like you'd expect soil to feel in your mouth! However it was also deliciously chocolatey - something I definitely don't associate with dirt! Once we had dug a little beneath the surface we came to the amazing yoghurt. It was sweet and so creamy! Then toward the bottom of the pot we discovered fruit and grains. It was such a fun dessert and perfectly suited to anyone's taste as it wasn't too sickly sweet. The watermelon and mint was presented on little wooden spoons. They definitely looked exceptional, however it was too sweet for our tastes. We felt there should have been less sugar coating the jelly as the jelly itself was quite sweet, and it reminded me of a sickly-sweet sour-patch lolly. Despite a couple of misses, the general quality of all of the dishes were so high. The wait staff were friendly, warm, welcoming and above all very knowledgeable. We were blown away by the atmosphere and have already made plans to return the next time we travel to Byron. And suffice to say, we are absolutely bursting with excitement for our wedding day!

The Location, On a hillside in the Hinterland of Byron bay, with majestic views to the coast, cool oceans breezes made for a pleasant climate - Centred around the Massive Fig Tree, the area where the garden wedding was held, was quickly transformed from a wedding area to an outdoor sit down dining area. A range of seating from stools around the pool, to elegant sofas. Service, from the moment we arrived, an incredible selection of snacks, and drinks were kept constantly being supplied. Incredibly courteous staff, right through the the Owner/manager" fare-welling everyone at the end of the evening. Handled 110 guests with ease. But the food - delightful, appetizers of sashimi, and lamb cutlets - I am not a sashimi fan, but loved it, and the lamb simply melted in your mouth. But, the main course was listed as what we thought was a choice of Salmon, Pork Bellies, Chicken, and a Vegetarian alternative. We thought this was going to be a choice, or alternating settings - nope, just platter after platter of all of the above, until even the heartiest of the eaters amongst us, cried "No more". Desserts? A never ending supply of Rich Chocolate Wedding Cake, Profiteroles and Mini pavlovas. I am looking forward to another trip to Byron, just to try it out in a non-wedding context...

Awesome spot in Byron bay. The lighting is fantastic, the vibe is chill, and the staff is amazing…read more This place is super popular - best to reserve ahead during high season. We got really lucky at 8.45pm and scored two seats at the bar. The dishes are tapa style. Great for sharing. MUST HAVE: Anchovies with eggplant, peppers, and toast - the anchovies came in a can but it was amazing with the eggplant and roasted pepper and jalapeño pepper. The right balance of soft textures and a kick from the jalapeño pepper. Quite delicious. Scallops with polenta - beautiful presentation. I think I would like a bit less polenta but very fresh. The pesto sauce on top was excellent. SOLID: Serrano ham with toasted bread with tomato paste - how could one say no to Serrano ham? Chocolate tart with hazelnut lemon cream with crumbles. The chocolate tart was moist and balanced with the acidity of hazelnut lemon cream. Pork belly and chorizo sausages - solid dish. Order when you still have stomach left to digest the fatty part of this dish. Ceviche with king fish and cucumber. This could use a bit more lime and the chips are not as crunchy (probably due to the seaside humid air) but still fresh and the fish tasted like sashimi grade! SKIP: Calamari with tartar sauce and cucumber - this is dish is a bit on the heavy side For wines by the glass, I would recommend cava and Albariño.

I am still dreaming about the ambiance, the cocktails and the delicious Spanish food…read more All gin & tonics need to be served the way they serve them. A Spanish gem in the middle of Byron and better than most of the meals I had in Barcelona. On a random weekday night, it was pretty busy so I would recommend making a reservation if you can. Also, the kitchen closing time was variable based on how busy they were so that was a bit odd. Thankfully they accommodated me. Onto the food! The pan con tomate was major heart eyes! It was more like pan con tomate and jamon serrano. Overall it was excellent. Arroz con gambas is reminiscent of a paella. Very, very good. Patatas bravas were also quite flavorful. I really loved all the dishes and my drinks. I can't how good the other items I missed out on were. St. Elmo, if I'm ever in Byron again, I will be back!
