This review is for Upland. It is a great little hidden gem inside Gray Goat. Only four taps, but they have a cooler full of different canned options. Ivan was awesome. Open to talk to and friendly. It would be awesome if they were able to have more of Upland's brew, but space is an issue. We aren't bikers, but that didn't matter. We came in, had a seat, and had a couple of drinks. It isn't a bar atmosphere, but it was good enough for an afternoon out on an adventure. read more

It's hard to feel served by a business that falls short of pre-Covid-19 expectations. That's because you haven't been served. However, since that is the unavoidable reality in the world of bicycle shops, you will have to adjust those expectations if you want any substantive interaction with it. Here's what you should know to make that eventually happen: Gray Goat fails in no wise to understand the hardship in that for you, and it shows. For example: If a bike you want isn't available due to a manufacturing or shipping delay beyond their control, they can tell you why with a specificity akin to an IRS audit. They can say where your bike is made, where and how is it shipped and stored, in some cases, down to the production schedule, storage depot and transportation route. Insodoing, they ground your expectations in detailed reality, never once shrugging their shoulders in a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine fashion. Of course, that changes nothing until it changes something, and your assessment of the futility of that is right-on. Even still, you should fail in no-wise to see just how important their business is to them. Regardless of their motivation -- whether it be for the love of money or the love of you -- their demonstration of a desperate desire to keep going evidences an absence of and aversion to the prevalence of disinterest that now pervades most businesses that have succumbed to their impending doom. Unless you have already succumbed to same, you'll find their attitude a boost against same. That's nothing now, I'll admit; but it's something later if God be true. A passion for business, which is a passion for people, becomes a habit when it endures. I finally bought my bike. It took nearly 2 months of searching and we went to 8 (?) bike shops. AND I LOVE IT. I finally have a bike that fits my body and fits the kind of riding I want to do and that's thanks in no small part to the FREE custom fitting (with laser measurements!) that Gray Goat provides with every purchase. In addition, I get a FREE 30-day tune-up and a free service plan. You can read more about it on their website. So, even thought this wasn't the cheapest bike I could've bought, it ended up being a far better purchase because of the fitting (up to $80 at other shops), tune-up (up to $60), and service plan ($$$?). The owner and his staff care about riding and about the kind of riding you're going to do. I felt like I was treated just as well as the guys who rode up in their kits on super expensive road bikes and the serious mountain biker who brought his fork in, still covered in mud. Whether you're buying a bike for your kid or upgrading to a $4000 machine, I get the sense that they want you to be happy and have fun so that you will keep riding, above all else. My Specialized Vita fits great, shifts smoothly, is fast, is my favorite color, and was actually under budget! I couldn't be happier with my birthday bike. It's a flat-bar road bike, sometimes called a fitness bike. It is ideal for riding around the neighborhood (and outside the neighborhood) for fun and exercise, and I'm planning on riding it to work (6.5 miles) this week for the first time. Inconsistent staff. There are some great staff members and some that are not. Bought a brand new bicycle for my son and when we got home half the bolts were not tighten down. Spent 30 minutes fixing the bike to ensure a safe ride. Definitely not expecting this from a local bike shop. For service related items some staff are great and others are not. At times they don't even take the time to assess what you're talkin to them about and just tell you a generic three weeks before rushing to the next customer. I wish I can give a higher star rating for the great staff but due to the inconsistencies between the team I am only giving a 3. read more

Very impressed with this establishment for the following reasons 1. They treated my recreational bike as a 1st class bike. 2. I was given same day tire repair service 3. The technicians were as thorough on my bike as a pro bike 4. And while I waited they did the same for other walk-ins. 5. Along with two other reviews on this page I was a little off put by the customer service at this store. I am new to Indianapolis and gray goat is close to my office so I was considering using them as my main shop. This experience has pushed me away from this store especially since my local bike store back "home" was so incredibly interested in "me" when I first started going there. I went in a few days ago looking to be purchase higher end cycling shoes since I have become much more interested in the sport. I got fit and the staff member who helped me was pretty knowledgeable about the process. He made measurements (shoe inserts) that would later be used once the shoes were in house. (Based on my assessment this individual was involved more in the sales and fitting side of the shop operation) I went in a couple of days later once they were in the store. The staff member who helped me this time was not concerned at all about making sure everything was "right" (those who have been fit for athletics footwear understand this struggle) and did not appear to be well versed in shoes or the fitting process. When I eluded to the other staff member who helped me he didn't offer to help me figure out who that was and when he would be back at the store so I could come back and work with him. (Based on my contextual assessment the individuals in this store were solely mechanics.) Overall I feel that the staff member who helped me from my second visit didn't care much about getting things right or even finding another individual who could. I intend to call the store tomorrow to find out who I worked with during their first visit so I can come back and work with him to ensure things are correct. My recommendation from this experience to Gray Goat is to ensure the continuity of the sale. I understand that people are not at the shop 24/7 but please make sure written communication is carried out on who placed the order. read more

The Gray Goat Bicycle Company is a top notch bike shop that feels like a family run business. Their staff is all about selecting the right bike for you, fitting you for your bike, and do not charge extra for an initial setup if you need a wider seat, a one inch riser on the handlebars, etc. That's not typical for an large bicycle outfit in the Indy area. In addition, the service dept. is excellent addressing any needs or maintenance that come up with your bike and work directly w/ the bike companies to come up w/ a solution. Furthermore, their warranty backing is complete and skillfully done. One last thing about the service department is how quickly they are able to process your bike and return it to you, generally taking the bike w/in 2-3 days and completing in a short time as well. Again, many of the area bike shops wont take the bike for several days or weeks and then it may not be ready for another week after that. Incidentally, purchased the Specialized Vado bike and have put over 3000 miles on it for the past year, working closely w/ the staff to make adjustments as needed. A HUGE plus is the five years of free annual tuneups that is offered and we have used. Excellent company! read more

Took my tri bike into Gray Goat North after a spoke broke on the back wheel. Took nearly 2 weeks for them to fix it. I rode the bike 4 times and spoke broke again - no pot holes, no strike from the side, nothing that would cause this. I called and asked about how they repair the wheel, do they use a tensiometer to ensure spokes are tightened evenly, etc. Short answer - the gentleman on the phone didn't know how the wheel is repaired, they don't stand behind their work with warranty, and they now recommend I buy a new wheel. Save your time, money, and patience and stay clear of this bike shop. read more

The few times that I have been in, the staff have been knowledgeable and very friendly. Recently went in for a fitting with Brian, and I can see where the staff get their direction. Brian was extremely nice and knowledgeable and helped me with the fitting of my bike to make it more comfortable. I would recommend Gray Goat Bicycle company to anyone looking to get the right bicycle for their riding style. Great experience, today. I had a "tangled" chain. My regular bike shop told me it wold be two weeks to inspect and another two weeks to repair. This bike shop is a Central Indiana staple. I called Gray Goat - South. They told me to bring in my bike. I did and it was repaired in thirty minutes. Great service, friendly staff and I felt I was a professional operation. The repair price was fair. While I was waiting I found a new bike I may purchase. Great staff! read more

The staff at gray goat have an elitist vibe to them. I was shocked that they have such great reviews. If you aren't asking them to fix a thousand dollar plus race bike, they have no interest in your business. BTW grey goat sports (whats on the sign) really means grey goat bikes, don't go there expecting anything but bikes. I kept going there because they support events in the community, but when you are in the store, they just make you feel dumb by talking down to you. I would suggest going to Bicycle Garage Indy instead. They are more friendly and understand that some people just need a small repair on under $200 dollar bike. They actually lost my business. When I looked to upgrade my bike I did not go there, because of the way they treated me when I just wanted my clunker fixed. read more

This is a great store!!! I am a big guy thats trying to get into shape. This store was filled with very friendly knowledgable employees. The reason I went to the gray goat in the first place was to look for alternatives to running. Running was killing my feet for some reason however I noticed my knees or hips didn't hurt. ( Keep in mind I had already dropped $100 on shoes from the blue mile.) A salesman comes over and points out that my shoes are for people with neutral gates, but I over pronated when I walked in. He fitted me for the right pair of shoes, he gave me a discount, and was very knowledgable of various shoe brands. These shoes fit great and my foot pain has magically went away. Thanks to this store I can workout and hopefully shed this weight. read more

Great shop & very helpful staff. We needed to get my daughter a new bike from them for her birthday and they were helpful in sizing her and also getting it ready with training wheels (as they had to install a longer axle). Its the little things like that and efforts that's puts them above the rest. These bikes may be more than Walmart, but my sons Specialized Hot Rock has lasted 5 years now and still running good. The quality last longer with them esp if they are rough on their bikes. read more

I like these guys. Indianapolis heralds several good bike stores, however I have always walked away satisfied from the guys here, and in particular, Brian Goatee. I do appreciate the fact that they have provided free gear for my cycling classes and for different functions, but that doesn't taint my review. For this type of thing, one must look at the actual service as well as the overall vibe. the guys at gray goat always treat me fairly, let me know what's wrong with my bike, and do the most cost effective thing they can to get me on my way. I can't say that same thing about all of my sponsors. I do appreciate free and/or discounted items, but if a salesperson presents a crappy attitude...it doesn't bode well for referrals. Enough said. I am happy to recommend these guys to anyone (even when I wear competitor jerseys in their store).... read more

I purchased my road bike here 2 years ago and have had no regrets. Matter of fact the result was much better than I expected. The time spent to properly fit me to the bike was probably more important than the actual bike. I have had numerous experiences with them bending over backwards to help me out when I needed it. One example was letting me try out a saddle for the weekend (after trying out numerous models) to make sure I purchased the right one for me. And most recently I had a rear derailleur cable snap and they were able to swap a new one out for me Sunday afternoon so I could have an operational bike for my Training class on Monday morning. The service is excellent and the friendly environment is second to none! They also have a good selection of accessories, cycling wear, cycling and running shoes etc. If you are in the area or are in the market for a new bike give them a shot! read more

This is a very difficult review for me to write. Why? Because I typically would rate Gray Goat as one of my favorite bike shops and give them four or five stars. But for my most recent experience I simply can't rate them that high. I brought my bike in to be serviced on Monday night and it took 5 days to get my bike back. The repairs it needed could probably be completed in about an hour. I was told my bike would be ready by Thursday. It wasn't. I called back again on Friday afternoon only to be told it would be ready by the end of the day. It wasn't. I called again on Saturday early afternoon only to be told that my bike should be done that day. I hope so. As an active cyclist during the optimal riding season, it's very frustrating to have to go nearly a week without being able to train. Had I known it would take so long to repair my bike I would have postponed the repairs. It's all about managing expectations. And in this particular case I don't believe GG did a very good job. I'll try not to gush too much about these guys but they have been my go to shop for years now and I pretty much refuse to set foot in any other shop. Was into Mt. Biking heavily for about 7 years and bought my 1st Mt. Bike (the last of the Klein's) (this was the old location too) from Brian who was very casual yet extremely informative during my purchase. Plus, PLUS how can you beat a 5 year free service program with bike purchase?? I now wrench on my own bike but these guys are probably the only shop mech's in Indy that ill let tune my bike - in the past when I didn't know much about wrenching I still knew they were giving me just what I wanted/asked for and not trying to upsell the sheet out of me. There have been times I was in a crunch for a ride the next day and they got me in and out with a tune-up in no time. These are quite simply the most chill people who also have incredible knowledge about not only bikes but proper technique, proper wrenching techniques and most importantly nutrition. They have it all covered here and im not just saying that. Road bikes, Mt. bikes, kids bikes, really expensive bikes and really cheap beginner bikes too (so you dont have to deal with a sheety Walmart cheap bike). Then again im a little biased cause over the years - talking with these guys week in and out they almost became like brothers some of them. Oh yea as far as I know you can still get Hoosier National Forest trail passes here. Thankfully these guys are now right around the corner from me even though I don't bike like I used too - im positive the quality of this shop hasn't changed (I have in fact been in the new location a few times). Ive been to shops on the north side, out east, south side - doesn't matter. This is still the best shop and still my go-to. read more
