I use my bicycle frequently in the warm months, so I needed it tuned up after sitting in the garage all winter long. After reading reviews and hearing good things about Gray Goat from friends, I decided to take my bike here for a spring tuneup. No appointment was needed, although you might want to call ahead and confirm - they get very busy in the spring/summer (as you can imagine). I was told it would be about three weeks, and it ended up taking about four weeks. Plan ahead if you need or want your bike within a certain time frame! After 3.5 weeks, I called to get an update, and the employee was super friendly and explained they were a bit behind schedule because of demand. A few days later, I received a text message that my bike was ready for pickup. Really pleased with my experience with Gray Goat and highly recommend doing business here! We visited several stores over the last few weeks to check out bikes. Bikes often were hanging or on top of a rack display, where often it was tough to get a good look at the bike. It was also difficult to find a price tag. Most stores didn't have much of a selection either. I decided to get serious by doing some homework on Yelp and visiting a few shop websites. It worked and was much easier sorting options, models, colors, and pricing online. We did not want to deal with the big box economy grade bikes that fall apart after a year. We didn't want to worry about assembly either as this has been problematic in the past; whether done at home or having a random service or box store complete. We liked what Gray Goat had to offer online and that they had 4 locations around Indy. We called the Carmel store to check and confirm they had in stock what we saw online. Upon arrival they had our bikes set aside and ready. Chris the manager and his two assistants quickly had our bike seat heights adjusted, kickstands, extra reflectors, a front basket and bell installed in minutes. Accessories were discounted because of our bike purchases, just like a great value meal. We also picked up customized color coordinated safety helmets that offer real protection versus some of the econo versions offered at the box'es. Chris even helped us load the bikes in our car layering cardboard to protect our vehicle and our new 2 wheelers. Recently took my bike in for a flat tire, got it back, first ride, same tire flat about 10 miles into ride. Called the store- they asked my location and would have picked me up if I was closer but took bike back in and waited while they fixed it again and they did it at no cost even though I clearly had hit another sharp object - very gracious, good people and highly recommend them - great in store selection of traditional and e-bikes read more

Purchased my first road bike here and I'm so glad I didn't go anywhere else! Not knowing my proper size, and being a taller lad (6'5) I called in to see if they had a 61cm Specialized Allez and they did. Matt was super helpful in finding the right fit and he was very knowledgable. He watched me ride by a few times and he was able to tell the 61cm was the right size. Ordered the bike on a Sunday, order was placed on Monday and the bike was built and ready on Friday right on time as expected. I visited another shop in the area and they had no 61cm's so I tried a 58cm. The employee handed me the bike and said cruise around the building a couple times and then walked back inside. Not nearly as helpful as Gray Goat. When I picked the bike up, someone else helped me (Noah?) and he was also very helpful in getting me situated on the bike! Gray Goat is a great spot for gear and has a large selection of bikes with a super helpful staff. I will be recommending this shop to anyone I can! read more

I highly recommend Gray Goat's repair shop. My brother and I wanted to get his bike up and running so we could continue our weekly rides. Bill happened to be in the shop and was able to fix his bike and tune it up while we waited. He took the time to chat and explain some basic maintenance items that we needed to do to keep our bikes on the road. We were very impressed with his friendliness and knowledge. I'm thrilled with Gray Goat. I dropped off a bike, and 40 min. later they texted me that my bike was ready for pick up. It had a repaired flat tire and a new seat, and brakes were checked. In the past other bike stores have told me they were weeks behind schedule. How wonderful to drop off a bike, do an errand, then pick it up. Location & parking were easy. The young employee who helped me was super polite, helpful, efficient, and well-spoken. I was able to leave my old bike seat there & they would donate it to an inner-city bike center. It was a cool interior, with cool-looking bikes. But mine was just a basic 'Giant' brand so don't think you need a fancy bike to venture in here. I will return. This place is to fancy for a bike shop. I was looking for a helmet for my son but they are all packed into a cabinet so he had to dig through them on his knees what was in the cabinet did not match the display. I like bike shops, I like to see and touch things. I may put new tires on my bike and wanted to see some of the specialized tire options but they had none in the show room I presume they were in the back. It took the fun out of the trip. read more

Places like Walmart and Target tend to sell lower end bikes. Yes they are affordable but they're not the best quality. This is what separates Gray Goat from the rest. Yes there are many bikes in the store that sell for thousands of dollars. But they are selling you high quality bicycles. My experience this afternoon was excellent! Larry did an amazing job of answering every question I had with complete confidence. (Gray Goat Southside on Southport) I don't care what "class" you think you are, don't be scared of treating yourself to something more valuable. It cost more money to buy cheap stuff year after year that breaks down then it is to buy something of high quality and be done with it. Starting Off, Great Bikes, Great Staff, and a Great help. I would recommend them over the other shops in the area. Specialized builds great bikes to meet the needs of the area, be it Road, Mountain or Hybrid. I wanted to get back into biking after a 20 year break from any kind of regular biking. I had an issue with being a good 90 lbs overweight, 38 BMI, and high blood pressure. So the typical old fat guy. They were very supportive and understanding the whole time. They suggested a Diverge, a gravel road bike. Its a great all around road bike that will put up with the load I'm going to put on it. I also picked up a Wahoo Kicker core to Zwift on during the cold wet snowy weather (checki it out if you don't know what Zwift is..addicting). This has been an outstanding combination. I'm biking 3-5 times a week and averaging over 60 miles a week as I step back from the ledge of being morbidly obese. Everyone was very helpful and the staff just wanted to see that I was comfortable on the bike and would get out and ride. I can't say how important that is as you battle the fear and shame of being fat and out of shape. Now I can't wait for the warm weather and group rides that leave out of the shop weekly knowing that I will be able to peddle with a group. Ride On and keep up the great work. And as Albert Einstein said, "Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving." Gray Goat keeps you moving. Great Job! read more

Serious shop and tempered for local service. This location is good addition to NW Indianapolis cycling community. They have broad range of bikes but their primary brand is Specialized... coupled with Felt, Surly, Raleigh and Electra (electric). Specialized is full offering of accessories and clothing as well. They also have ability to provide custom footbeds or std arch inserts for any cycling shoe. Vittoria and Specialized tires are in stock and they have market prices on these. The shop has convenient hours through Sunday which is a plus as well.... there is an Upland mini bar but availability is not known. With service, it's good to know expectations when dropping any bike off for repair if it cannot be done while you wait... read more

Gray Goat North is located in the old Nebo Ridge Bicycles location. I was a regular at Nebo right up until they closed, but was thrilled to see Gray Goat take over the location and keep serving the cycling community in this area. They have an excellent selection of bikes and gear, helpful and knowledgeable staff, and (rumor has it) they will have a mini craft beer bar inside the shop in the near future! My most recent visit there was to have some work done on my bike after a ride where my chain was thrown and completely mangled, bent up my front derailleur, and knocked my rear derailleur will out of alignment. Taking it in toward the end of the day, I was thinking I would be leaving it in at the shop, but the mechanics went to work immediately and had me out the door and back in the saddle in about 20 minutes for a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend checking these guys out regardless if you are a street cruising bike appreciator who may or may not know the proper terms for bike parts, or a multi-thousand mile a year Cat 1-2 racer or TT-er who has bikes that are more expensive than your car. ook my tri bike into Gray Goat North after a spoke broke on the back wheel. Took nearly 2 weeks for them to fix it. I rode the bike 4 times and spoke broke again - no pot holes, no strike from the side, nothing that would cause this. I called and asked about how they repair the wheel, do they use a tensiometer to ensure spokes are tightened evenly, etc. Short answer - the gentleman on the phone didn't know how the wheel is repaired, they don't stand behind their work with warranty, and they now recommend I buy a new wheel. Save your time, money, and patience and stay clear of this bike shop. read more

People were nice and friendly but they only specialize in high dollar bicycles for the rich, not the middle class worker, casual rider. They told me you could not get parts anymore so I took to Future Velo and they are going to have like new in a couple weeks for fraction of a new bike. read more

I have an old, cheap bike that got a flat. I took it to Gray Goat North and they treated me just like they would if it was a bike worth a couple thousand dollars. While I was told it could be awhile for repair due to COVID, I got it back much sooner than expected and was kept in the loop when they started work, the progress on issues, and that it was ready for pick up.
