Absolutely horrendous service. As I walk in, a couple comes in behind me and we form a line. I'm waiting for about a minute to be greeted. Now, I'm not going to make any assumptions... but let me mention that I'm an African man and the person that came out was an older European man. He comes out and looks right through me... towards the people that are behind me (and clearly a separate party) and says "how are you *folks* doing, how can I help you?" They say they're dining and he seats them. Literally does not look at me or acknowledge my existence in any way. He walks away and doesn't say "someone will be right with you" (and even if someone would... why would I be helped second when I was first???)... he seats them and walks back into the kitchen. Absolutely despicable. It was my first time stepping foot in there. I will never give my money to this restaurant nor will I ever recommend it, as I'm clearly unwanted there. Unfortunately, I've heard stories about some people in Malibu but I always look at people with a fresh set of eyes and a mind free of prejudice. Unfortunately, this man does Malibu's beauty a disservice and should be ashamed of himself. read more

In Malibu on vacay and was hungry so I stopped in. I ordered the veal scalopini and minestrone soup. Tiramisu for dessert. The veal was good, but a little chewy. The soup was hot and delicious and probably the best minestrone I've ever had. There were no beans in it. :) the tiramisu was absolutely scrumptious! This place was a little pricey but, the ambiance and wait staff were very attentive. read more

Stopped by this restaurant while I was visiting Malibu.The service was pleasant, and the food was even better. We ordered the Bolognese, and it came out fresh and piping hot. I honestly haven't had pasta this hot and fresh from an Italian restaurant in a long time, so it was such a nice surprise. Everything tasted great. I first tried Gravina about 7~8 years ago with my mother as we were spending the day in Malibu. It was delicious and we had a wonderful time! I later moved to the Camarillo area and I often passed through on the 1 and saw Gravina and I'd always tell my husband we would have to go back, remembering back to the great experience with my mom. Well we finally were able to go back recently and it was just as good as I remembered! The staff are incredibly the friendly, the restaurant was so clean and quiet and they even let us have our small dog on the patio. The food was exquisite! Truly delicious Italian food. I recommend Gravina to anyone who wants a delicious meal with incredible service was a staff that makes you feel like family. read more

***GOT SALMONELLA HERE*** We came in here and ordered a chicken dish. I could tell it wasn't cooked well. I cut into it and the chicken just looked funny. It looked raw, but also strange? My husband agreed. He took a bite of it (big mistake) and agreed that there was something really off about the chicken too. We just got the check and left Next day my husband woke up extremely ill. We ordered the pepperoni pizza ($27) and Caesar salad ($25) which was delivered last night. The pepperoni pizza was the worst pizza I've ever had! It was thin and it soaked up three full-size, super absorbent paper towels of grease!! I don't know what kind of cheese they put on the pizza, but there was no flavor at all. The crust was thin, soggy, and wet when I bit into the pizza! The Caesar salad Romain lettuce was fresh and crisp. However, the sprinkle of croutons were hard and stale and they put Parmesan strips that were about an inch and a half long and tossed it on the top of the salad. No tomatoes, nothing special about this $25 salad! The salad was still edible because of the Romain lettuce that was crisp however, the pizza I agree with some of the other reviews you would be better off just heading out to the pavilion grocery grabbing a frozen Tony's pizza! read more

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in our area. Everything is superb. The ravioli are made with the lightest pasta. Love the ambience it's a great place for date night, because very low-key and quiet so that you can carry on conversations without struggling to listen to the other person. We usually go there on a Friday night and the parking lot in the front of the restaurant always has a parking spot which is what we like about this place.. Service is great. The owner comes out and greet you and have conversations with you. The ambience Intimate and warm. The food is great. We come here for the octopus. The eggplant Parmesan is interestingly prepared. The eggplant is sliced, very thinly and is absent of gooey mozzarella not your traditional eggplant Parmesan. read more

Great service and ambiance! We were seated in the covered patio area and it was perfect! We got to see the lights outside, and we stayed warm inside the restaurant! The service was great overall, and the food was delicious! Everything came out in a timely manner, and everyone got their food around the same time so no one was waiting around! One of our friends started feeling sick after we finished dinner, and the restaurant was very respectful and attentive to our needs and did not try to rush us at all! Overall a very nice experience! Located in the northern part of Malibu (corner of Kanan Rd and PCH), Gravina is quieter than other upscale dining options in the area, which makes for a nice dining experience. First of all, it's possible to get a reservation on a Friday or Saturday evening with short notice. Don't get me wrong, there are people in there, but it lacks the chaos, noise, parking issues, and pretentiousness of other upscale restaurants along the coast. Gravina makes for the perfect date night... we're able to relax, enjoy each other's company, and order in a way that makes it a cool little food adventure. The owner is from Italy... and seems to be a really mellow, good guy. He is very present in the dining room, yet kind of keeps to himself. I was absolutely loving the Octopus and had to mention that to him... and once engaged we had a nice little conversation about his home city in the Puglia region of Italy. He told us about an annual Octopus festival there, and now it's on the bucket list! The food is excellent, and authentic. As I mentioned, the octopus is outstanding... my favorite in LA, and I go to a lot of restaurants specifically in search of great takes on octopus. Nobody does octopus quite as well as the Italians, and Gravina's take was nearing perfection for me. Beautifully grilled with some char on the outside, yet tender, juicy, and fatty on the inside. Another notable is the Shrimp and Asparagus Risotto. It's not going to blow you away with flavor, but it's such a nice, clean, and simple execution that is just so easy and perfect to share. Speaking of sharing, I love to eat family style at Gravina, even for just two of us on a date. It's a nice menu... not overwhelming with choices, but allows you to go in several directions and then pair it with just the right Italian wine. Three plates with wine for two and you're not breaking the bank. As an added bonus the restaurant has ample great, and free, parking with lots in the front and back of the building. read more

I was passing through Malibu and couldn't get into Moonshadows which is one of my go to places with magnificent views. But lucky for me I found Gravina Malibu which had much more appealing atmosphere on a date night. A family owned restaurant with a quaint and charming vibe. The food was amazing! We had the Ossobuco which was sitting on top of risotto,. And the Lasagna dish. The Ossobuco had that perfect balance of flavor and cooked just right. The risotto was smooth and not heavy lumpy tasting. Really magnificent We also tried the Lasagna which was rich and flavorful. Paired this all with a great bottle of IL Bruciato. boom. A perfectly balanced tasting experience for our pallet. And as an added bonus last night, we were seated near Sam Elliott. So you never know who you'll run into at this gem of a place. Great place for a date night or for those wanting to try something else beyond the typical fancy chain type restaurant. read more

My girlfriend and I came after a long beach trip. It was our first time in Malibu, and we decided to stop at Gravina Malibu restaurant on our exit back to the city. We weren't sure what to expect, but what we did know is that we were not looking very formal from spending time at the beach all day. However, the staff accepted us with open arms and treated us with respect. I had a great time, and felt at home. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful. The lobster vodka sauce ravioli surpassed my expectations, the Peroni was served ice cold, and my girlfriend loved her recommended wine. It's rare to find an Italian restaurant with truly Italian owners and Italian flair! We ordered a large number of food for a bachelorette party since we were staying in an Airbnb nearby and we had ordered only the night before. They were very kind and attentive to our order, we ordered 3 pizzas, 3 eggplant pastas, and 3 beet salads, and they threw in some bread. I will tell you right now, I haven't had such good Italian food since my days in San Francisco and that was only because of one restaurant & it looks like Gravina will be my go to Italian restaurant of SoCal. I do wish I lived closer to Malibu to enjoy it more but now I know when I do make the trek out there I'll have a place to turn to! Pizza review only. Ordered three pizzas delivered last night, and was the most disappointed I've been in years at the quality that was delivered. It tasted like pizza you would find free on a buffet at an all inclusive resort. Seriously just horrible. The price made me think it was going to be amazing, but instead ended up feeling ripped off and angry. $85 for three pizzas I'd have traded for ANY frozen pizza from a grocery store. Don't get the pizzas from here. Just cook a tombstone or digiorno and save your money. Embarrassingly bad. read more

Wow. Best Italian meal that I've had since visiting Italy. Split the Rugola salad ( sharp arugula / Parmesan in a light vinaigrette ) simplicity at its finest. My husband and I split the most amazing pc of Seabass on wilted spinach that was on the specials list. The presentation was gorgeous so double pleased that the taste matched. We finished the meal with a simple spaghetti and pomodora sauce, the sauce just clung perfectly to the pasta. Seriously the best. We were able to walk in at 8 on a Saturday night and the restaurant surprisingly wasn't very crowded. read more
