My foster dog recently was groomed at Grateful Pets, and I was so appreciative of their professional and kind service. My foster is a husky mix who had experienced neglect and had lots of matting, and had likely never been groomed. The Grateful Pets staff really put me at ease and communicated throughout the process so I knew what to expect. Two times we've called to schedule an appointment and been told we could get our pets hair cut. Today this happened again and we were told first they didn't have time and then when we talked to the owner he changed his story to we don't cut that type of hair. I've really enjoyed this place when I've used the daycare in the past. That said, my new puppy cannot go due to their spay/neuter policy, which is required by 7 months old. As many with large and giant breeds know, this goes against medical advise to wait until 2. Obviously I won't sacrifice the long term health of my pup to go to this daycare. There are other facilities that manage intact dogs just fine (no bitches in heat of course). I think it's their easy way out but it prevents a lot of people from using the day care (show dogs, young large dogs, etc). read more

I cannot describe how happy I am with the training service offered here. I feel like I have a brand new dog! I have a 4yo German shepherd who was unbelievably reactive to everything he saw in Soulard. He grew up with a yard so walking around the busy streets was terrifying for him. It caused me to have to only take him out to potty in my apartment courtyard. The Soulard Facebook page referred me to the people of Grateful Pets, and I cannot imagine life without them now. My fur baby loves spending her days at daycare with her two legged friends and even more with her four-legged ones. They are very active on social media so you can always get a sneak peek at what your pup is up to during the day. They also offer grooming and training services. My little monster is a natural beauty so no special grooming required but she has definitely benefited from the Grateful Pet training philosophy and program. The cost for training is on par with other facilities but as a bonus she is getting trained sporadically while hanging out with her friends at day care all day. A real one stop shop which is essential for a busy Single dog dad like me. The facility is clean and very efficient. The location is convenient. This is definitely a family run business all the way down to the owners daughter and the rest of the staff is friendly and there's just a really calm and happy vibe when you walk into the lobby. I was a customer here for nearly a year. With COVID I was on a shift schedule at work and would rotate the weeks I brought my dog based on my work in office or work from home schedule. I would buy 20 day/monthly passes with assurance from Richard that the days would roll over and I wouldn't be confined to a set month period. This worked for me given my scheduling needs And this continued for months with no complaints. Until today where apparently they had decided the days wouldn't roll over. They were uninterested in hearing about how things had worked for me and the terms I'd purchased the pass under. One star. I will not be returning after such thoughtless treatment of a dedicated customer. read more

I took my dog Liesl here, a long-haired labradoodle, after having a very unfortunate couple of experiences on South Grand. She was a mess before I came here, and I spent a ridiculous amount of my own time trying to clean her up, to no avail. Rebecca did wonders cleaning her up. I'm honestly shocked she didn't have to shave her hair she was in such a bad state. She not only removed all her mats but she did it without a matt cutter (reducing tortuous pulling on my dogs skin! yay) but by deep conditioning and massaging the mats apart. We were amazed its been a week and she is still soft and silky. I can't thank Rebecca enough for the excellent work she did with our fur baby. We will make Grateful Pets our regular groomer and cannot recommend her enough. read more

I can't recommend Grateful Pets enough. Rebecca and Richard gave me a tour the first time I came in and explained their facility and style. They've known both me and my dog's name by heart every time since then, and for the first several visits thanked me for sharing my dog's company with them, which did not go unnoticed. They offer other services besides daycare like training and grooming, but they never push it on you; their guidance and suggestions are free. Most importantly, my dog is completely comfortable with them and is always excited to go. I've never picked her up from Grateful Pets to find her stressed out, stinky, or anything like that- she's usually just tired from all the happy playtime. The location is conveniently located near Soulard Market, and the environment has a very 'family' feel to it. It's what I want for my dog and I'm glad they're in my neighborhood. Also, they have an instagram page and post daily pictures. I see my dog in the posts almost every time she's there, hanging out with some new friend. Also, they don't really sell much of anything there retail-wise (which I like), but you can buy moose antler pieces, and they price it by weight. I got one for 30 bucks or so and my dog chews on it nonstop and hasn't made a dent in almost 3 months. Highly recommend the moose antler. read more

Rebecca and Richard are clearly VERY knowledgable and were patient in answering all of my initial questions before bringing Duncan to doggy daycare. Their facility is super clean, the rates are beyond reasonable, the process is very low maintenance/stress for owners (no appointments for daycare), and they greet us by name when we walk in! They lied about the discipline, I was told they caged the dogs for 20 mins upon a bad act. An another employee said and hour! Then when I questioned the owner he lied again, saying 20 mins. My dog was caged at least 4 hours out of 8. I specifically advised them that if they were going to have to cage him more than a couple hours to call me and I would pick him up. They did not call. Never again! I find them to be cruel and disgusting for caging an animal for being an animal. His bad act was trying to wrestle with the other dogs! He is in no way an aggressive dog! He plays with 2 to 8 year old children and other family pets daily! He is very gentle with the children and never fights with the other pets. The owner had no patience, unless you are willing to pay him for HIS training I'm sure! I wouldn't mind the incredibly expensive cost, if they treated him well! But they just caged him! My boyfriend James and I adopted our boxer/lab mix River at the end of May. We quickly realized our new 3 month old baby needed somewhere to go while we went to work. After doing some research and talking to other puppy parents, we discovered Grateful Pets. We started bringing River to camp a few days a week, so he could play with other pups and learn socialization skills. Now River is a regular! He gets groomed with Rebecca (and he's a bit of a diva-she's amazing, patient, and much appreciated!). We're currently going through training with Richard to work on some common puppy probs (jumping, pulling, walking) and have seen major improvements QUICKLY! I have taken much time between my grooming appointment and this post concerning the service I received at Grateful Pets. I want to be fair and thoughtful in my evaluation. I have owned long haired dogs for decades and I realize long haired dogs are unfortunately getting less and less common especially in cities with large populations of mixed breeds and short haired dogs. They take time and cannot be pushed through a grooming process. My experience at this store was very poor at best. The groomer was inexperienced with the long hair issue and did a very poor job on the cut plus they were very matted when they returned home! She was very indignant at pickup as they had made her fall behind in her schedule. The price was outrageous as compared to other local grooming salons as well. I would be happy to incur the price if the cut was good and absent the attitude. I do realize long haired dogs are hard work - very hard and my dogs were obviously treated well which I am 'grateful' for but unfortunately will not be going back. I am very disappointed given my conversations with Rebecca. read more
