When I woke up early in Cutchogue, visiting my mom for a few days, The Grateful Deli in Southold first came to mind and COFFEE! Lol I ordered a B&E breakfast sandwich and a apple turnover, both were delish! Service was quick, Staff and customers were all so friendly and cheerful! I wound up going back for lunch with my mom and then again after that, "Third Time's The Charm," for another coffee and a Chocolate Brownie with Walnuts that was to die for! As an early riser I am always in search of an early breakfast option. This place opens at 5am. In my 2 recent visits I found out what looks like a good price value rapidly increases with any deviation from the norm. Got a 2 egg/toast/home fry platter listed for $6.98 When checking out my bill came to $8.50? When questing the bill I was told I was charged .50 for the jelly I asked for. Woman stated "There is nothing for free" Came back the next morning and ordered a Bacon/Egg/Cheese on a roll for $5.98. At the check out I was billed $9.10 Again when questioned I was told that my 1 slice of American Cheese was $2.50 additional. WTF? I told both the husband and wife owners that I didn't want it, and replace it with just a Bacon and egg sandwich. After they saw I was serious he reluctantly agreed to give it to me at the $5.98 price. My issues with them are not the extra costs but the principle of nickle and dime upcharges they must do with everyone. They should just raise their pricing. But they probably make more by selling .50 jelly and $2.50/slice American Cheese read more

What an awesome spot for deli sandwiches. The hero bread is really good and the sandwich options to fill them with are abundant. We tried the Italian combo and the chicken cutlet melt. Both awesome. Also got an oversized homemade brownie which was lights out. We're only here for the weekend but I'd happily come back next time in town. They have coffee and breakfast options as well including breakfast sandwiches on hard rolls which is my favorite. The prices are also super low ($10~ sandwich) relative to everything else in town. First, we were shocked at our 29.99 bill for one sandwich, 1/4 lb of potato salad, and 2 small bottled iced teas. The drinks were 4.99 each... way more than in other delis. The potato salad was so sour that it made you pucker and made me question whether it was spoiled. I had asked for olive oil to be drizzled on my sandwich... I believe it was not olive oil but tasted like stale, used oil from deep frying, and gave the sandwich a really bad taste. Sorry Grateful Deli... not Grateful I wasted so much money on bad food. This place SUCKS!! This place only gets 2 stars because the food tasted quite nice, but it's a mess in there. I walked in at around 1pm and there were so many people crammed in that small building, and there was no exact spot for where the line was. Another day when I walked in during the morning on my way back home to the Southampton it was one of the only places opened so I stopped there for a quick breakfast sandwich a young young looking girl was working there and she seemed very tired, but after all it was 7am (CRAZY) she took my order after she asked me to repeat it a few times but it's okay because she was very nice about it and was obviously tired she made sure she got my order 100% correct which I appreciated. When I sat down to wait for my meal I couldn't help but notice the trail of ants all over the table and about a minute later the owner of the deli pulled that young girl to the back by her arm and as I was looking for a drink I couldn't help but overhear the woman yelling at the poor girl saying she did something wrong with an order, and not only did this happen once, it happened 3 TIMES in the short time I was in there. Each time after the talking to I noticed that young girl who couldn't be over the age of 13-14 looked noticeably upset and stressed after each of those times she got literally PULLED to the back. Not to mention these prices were CRAZY not that I mind paying a little extra to smaller businesses, but I will say there is a problem when you charge customers well over double the price that is on their website and menu inside. PLEASE save your time and go somewhere else, I'm sure you can find better quality food for cheaper somewhere else. P.S. I hope that poor young girl is okay and got out of that TOXIC environment and can get a better job. read more

I was really excited to get a delicious, healthy salad from this deli. We have been loyal customers for years getting their sandwiches and LOVE them. So, I thought it was nice to have healthier salad options. I ordered the Tuscan salad which includes grilled chicken, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, avocados and lettuce. I was very upset with the amount of ingredients that came in the salad - while the amount of grilled chicken was fine the rest was about less than 1/4 cup of mozzarella, less than 1/4 cup of roasted red peppers and two thin, small slivers of avocado and then about 4 giant cups worth of lettuce. This salad was over $10 but worth WAY less - it really was a waste of my money. I was really disappointed in the scant amount of ingredients and will NOT go back here again. This place never gets my order right. Last time I ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon and I got home and it was just bacon on the sandwich no eggs or cheese. This time I ordered two sandwiches bacon egg and cheese and sausage egg and cheese. And people bought both with ketchup. Neither one of them have ketchup and they forgot the sausage. So inconvenient and they write down on the paper what's gonna go on the sandwich for The Cook. I question whether or not The Cook is sober or just doesn't care.?? Serviceable deli, food is nothing special. If you want Turkey on a roll, it's fine. However, I resent that the owners are using the greatest American band for marketing their business. Not only is the food delicious, the owners and staff are SO friendly and accommodating. I can't tell what I like more, their chicken reuben wrap or the people serving it. The folks running this place are so friendly and sweet, I might almost forget how amazing the wraps are. Well, specifically this one wrap because I've never ordered anything else- but it's got grilled chicken, bacon, tomato, coleslaw and thousand island dressing. It was a blistery-cold Thursday January morning on the East end and I was in the mood for a honkerin' egg sandwich prior to the 730a Orient Point Ferry departure. The locals told me to go here and so I did... I ordered 2 eggs, tomato, grilled chicken with salt and pepper on wheat toast. The place is clean and the woman behind the counter was sweet. I bought a mushroom/spinach wrap for $6.75. Not a bad price. I asked for red onion added to the wrap and a 1/4lb of Cole slaw. When she rung my order up I saw the wrap price and .75 but the total came to $10.06 so I asked. Sunday morning big breakfast is a staple for the boyfriend and I. The past few weeks, our first pick Bonnie Jean's has been packed. Rather than waiting this week, we went across the street to the Grateful Deli. Knowing that it wasn't sit-down service, we didn't have high expectations but even the low expectations were not meet. Upon entering, you could see there was no organization as to who was ordering, where the line was, who was waiting for food, who was paid. Just confusion everywhere. After we did order a simple order of: HEC SPK for me, and pancakes and sides for him and his brother, we sat at a table. (good that they do have a few table there to sit). My sandwich came out right away. I was impressed how fast it came out, but I feel it should have come out with the guys' breakfast. Basic HEC on a roll. Nothing impressive - but not judging, that's all I asked for. I waited to eat with the guys. Almost 10 minutes later, their food came out. Orders mixed up. Wrong meats with wrong pancakes, ect. When they told the lady, she just looked at them. Didn't offer to take it back and switch it or bring new. Nothing. Just looked at the guys. They switched their own food. None of the food was impressive. My big reason for discontent is in my lackluster sandwich is when I opened it to put my ketchup on it, there was a pieces of what I think was perhaps OVER fried bacon on my sandwich. Which was clearly visible to whoever made my sandwich but just ignored. I stopped eating. I would like to have had a different experience, especially after others gave it such good reviews. They change the prices if you're a regular vs not a regular, the owner michelle is rude, the bagels are consistently old and they pay their staff very poorly! and infrequently!
