Excellent burger that is made fresh from their meat grinder right to the grill. You can taste the aged beef flavor in their high quality chop meat. Very rare for a deli to do this. I highly recommend. The steak fries were also excellent. A dying breed of French fries that is extinct at most establishments. This place knows good French fries. read more

This place is WAY overpriced for what you get I ordered 2 sub sandwiches, one chicken and the other chicken Parmesan and the cost was $42!!! For 2 sandwiches! To start this review a roast beef hero, a ham and cheese hero, and a small Bag of chips was $56 . The worst part about this place is the obnoxious owner and the rude and snide women working behind the counter. The young girl made fun of us because we ask for napkins, and basically told us we should read the sign. The woman behind the counter asked if there was any more changes to our sandwich before she wraps it even though she was the one who made the mistake with the sandwich in the first place. STAY AWAY! I ordered 12 lbs. of sirloin tips. I was told the price was $25 per pound, which is a very high price. It was for a big birthday for my son, so I agreed to this price. When I arrived to pick up the meat, I was told the price was $30 per pound and they had packed 16 lbs. When I objected to the price and weight, I was told by an obnoxious man that "that's what it is". Since I had 23 people coming for dinner, I was forced to accept this outrage. I don't know what is going on with this place. I have tried them again and again and they have gone down hill. Last 2 times I ordered breakfast was wrong, even forgave them for an egg in my breakfast sandwich. I just decided to order lunch to give them another chance. What I got is inedible, I ordered a chicken caesar wrap, I got a bottle of caesar dressing with about 5 pieces of lettuce and some soggy chicken thrown in. The wrap by the time I got from southold to Greenport is completely soggy from the dressing and even if I attempted to eat this soggy sock of a sandwich it would be impossible. I had the Wayside Market cater a lunch and a dinner for my weekend party. Isabella was wonderful and very easy to work with. The food was delivered each time on time and hot. The food was very fresh and abundant. I had ordered multiple platers and chaffing dishes and everything was prepared wonderfully and was delicious! Although the food is good, the women who helped us are the rudest people ever We phone ordered 2 - overpriced 3 foot heroes. No problem since I enjoyed their sandwich once before. The next day when I said we would pick up the order, the counter person told my son they had no such order and that they don't do phone orders. He left and came home. I called to ask what happened and the rude nasty woman lied with a reply to me that he came there late and that he left immediately. They lied to me twice, rather than tell me they were busy and running late with orders. I would have had no issue with that but proceeded to make me look bad. I asked them therefore to deliver since I was having a 40 person beach party. They told me they don't deliver and hung up on me. I would never step foot into this place again. They have they worst Customer service ever. My son said he has never been treated so poorly and will also never go back. The arrogance of the owner is spectacular. Things have declined horrendously in recent history. Sandwich orders used to be perfect, now it seems ever order has an issue. Most recent order was completely wrong, called to let them know and the owner was quite skeptical but told us to bring them back. We did, but he quickly complained that he had to throw them out because of all the starving people in this country as if it was our fault. I went to the Wayside Market in Southold on Friday at about 2PM. I wanted to order a ham and cheese sandwich. There was a lady working behind the counter and she was filling an order for a woman at the counter. The two women appeared to know each other and they spoke non stop as the order was being filled. The counter lady was often distracted by the conversation as she made several sandwiches. After about ten minutes, the counter lady asked me what I would like. I gave her my order and she began to make my sandwich as she continued to fill the prior order. The two women continued talking and the counter lady finished two sandwiches and wrapped them for the other customer. At that point the customer said "those sandwiches are chicken cutlet, I ordered roast beef". The counter lady opened the sandwiches, took off the chicken that had already been microwaved and dressed with condiments and placed the cutlets back into the warming pan at the front of the counter with other meat for sale. My sandwich was still only partially prepared and I had already waited about twenty minutes. The counter lady began to make new sandwiches with the correct ingredients for the other customer. I left the store empty handed because of my concern about the safety of the food preparation at the Wayside Market. The store owner followed me into the parking lot. Among other things, he yelled to me "stick it up your ass". He said that I should go somewhere else and I took his advice. I went across the street to the Grateful Deli and got a ham and cheese sandwich in about five minutes. The fact that the chicken that had already been microwaved and placed on a sandwich with other condiments was then returned to the serving tray with other meat for sale, disgusted me. Being followed out of the store by the owner yelling obscenities at me was troubling. I suspect that the counter lady has not been well trained. I believe that if the owner, Pasquale Rutigliano, treats his customers with such disrespect, I can't imagine how he treats his employees. Please read other reviews of the Wayside Market and decide if you want to give them your business. I will not. read more

He continued saying that the steak I was inquiring about was 29.99 per pound today and that I should go to Walmart to buy my meat. There were several other customers present and only when another gentleman said something did he stop badgering me. He was unforgivably disrespectful and arrogant. I was recommended to go here by a few folks - unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience they did. These guys have a very nasty attitude, they are quite expensive for steak by the pound, you ask for a pound and they give you a cut that's 1.36lbs which they say is "slightly over". I had to ask if the guy ever took math in high school because 36% isn't slightly over. Ok I saw reviews been passing by on the way home for years. I said let me by local. I ordered a tuna melt and soup. Soup was ok nothing to rave about. Tuna melt was gigantic. I should have know better. The guy melted the cheese on a tuna melt with tuna on it in a microwave. Tuna was warm and had a tangy taste. Bread was tought as of it being microwaved vs grilled. 10 usd for a huge but terrible sandwich. I normally give 2 tries if I have a bad experience and if improved try again and write a review. I've shopped Wayside off and on for decades. Their lunch and breakfast sandwiches are widely acclaimed for good reasons, although now I am gluten free so no more sandwiches. They have always had excellent meat but do have a reputation for being less than cordial except, maybe, to those they know real well. My wife went there several times and can't stand the butchers plus she paid way too much for a rack of lamb, but she should have asked how much before buying. Anyway, no matter, their beef (all grass-fed) and pork (all Berkshire) are top shelf. If you are looking for a "deal", this is not the place but they are generally 20/25% cheaper than Whole Food's comparable quality meats and there is nothing like a WF for 50 miles. Haven't been here in 2 years and decided to get a quick breakfast sandwich before a fishing trip when suddenly halfway through my fishing trip and my sandwich I look down to find the longest, nastiest, biggest chunk of hair.
