We finally stopped to this restaurant after work on a Thursday evening. The atmosphere and service were both very good. But unfortunately like the old saying goes, "two out of three ain't bad", the food was a disappointment. We'll start with the so-called "beet" salad. The salad was soggy with very few beets, which were not of such great quality either. Then there was arancini, which was completely void of flavor, in a sauce with horrible flavor. The Greens & Beans were relatively good, but they are made with chicken stock (in case you are vegetarian or vegan). The burger was not a very good burger and came out fairly cold and came with a side, which I chose broccoli. The poor broccoli was drowning in a small bowl of butter and was overcooked. The two glasses of wine that we chose were good, but of course not made by the kitchen. I think that this place might be better to hit up for drinks for a Happy Hour than for a food destination. read more

The decor is beautiful, but sadly the food is quite bad. I ordered the veal parmesan and was served a tough piece of meat that was doused in breadcrumbs and a rubbery thick layer of parmesan. I think I ate this in elementary school in the cafeteria. Dessert was some specialty cheesecake that I thought I would enjoy on my flight. I just got back from a visit to Grappa for happy hour. You get an abbreviated drink and food menu with buy one get one deals (that is if you are lucky enough to have a waiter or waitress). I arrived at 4:45 and expected to receive water while I was waiting for my friend. It took 10 minutes for someone to ask if I was being helped and to offer to bring me water. We had to get up and go to the bar to get menus, order our food and receive our check. The food itself was decent and the bread and olive oil dipping sauce was good. We ordered 2 glasses of wine. I was disappointed that there weren't any NYS wines since we produce so many wonderful wines. We also ordered the bruschetta which was decent. Since we ordered three items we figured we would order a pizza to take home for lunch tomorrow so that we could take advantage of the second buy one get one offer. The check came and we were charged for 3 out of the 4 of the items. I inquired with someone about it and the manager came over and told me that "to go items don't count for happy hour." I told him that was fine except it should state that somewhere on the menu. You would think they would make an exception since the rule is not stated anywhere but nope. This is specifically for the bar tenders (Jenna, Alex, & Corrine). I spent 5 months at the hotel on business travel, and they were great, made me feel at home and will now call them friends. I have seen them deal with people who couldn't remember how many drinks they had and people not understanding happy hour ends at 6 always professionally, They were great and reason I always stayed at hotel and will stay when coming back to Rochester. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. After my last poor review, a manager from Grappa contacted me apologizing for our bad experience and offered a gift card for us to come back and try it again. I gave her all my information, and received ZERO follow up response, no gift card, no call, no response to my email, nothing. This place is an absolute joke. They could give me a $1,000 gift card and I still wouldn't go back. Terrible food and terrible customer service. It's a shame too, since this is such a beautiful restaurant and I have many business contacts that I will now never take here. Train your staff!!!! read more

Absolutely fantastic meal this evening. We started with the bruschetta. The appetizer was average, not much flavor. Two glasses of chianti were a great start. My boyfriend loved his orecchiette bolognese--pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was divine. My greens and beans were good, but the highlight of the meal was a shared funghi pizza (with added fresh mozzarella). The truffle oil on top was incredible. A local IPA paired nicely with the pizza. At the meals end, we enjoyed a coffee cocktail at the fireplace on the patio. Our server, Will, was incredibly helpful and kind. There is no salt and pepper on the table. I waited so long the dinner was cold so I had it boxed up. I asked for a glass of wine and the waiter " forgot" so I went wit out. We were a party of 6 and we all agreed we would never return. Even after telling the waiter, we were not offered a comp dessert or cocktail. We would have declined. The food was sub standard and the service was worse. The aranchini's we had at the bar WERE DRY. Portions were small. Management needs to go to Tony Dees (the new one) to learn about service, portions and how to make a good meatball or aranchini. read more

Such a shame...our party of four were so looking forward to dinner at Grappa since we know from experience that anything the Del Monte Hotel Group does is exceptional. The food was quite good and our server was excellent (even being brand new to the position), but our experience was tainted by the sullen and bordering on rude assistant manager, Ryan. We arrived about 10 minutes late for our 7:00 reservation...no greeting whatsoever. She then led us to a table that was tightly sandwiched between two others that were occupied. Since there were several empty 4 tops across the room, I asked if we could sit there instead. We wanted to be able to relax, talk and enjoy our meal...the other two tables were in the middle of their meals and probably would not have enjoyed us squeezing in practically on top of them. Well...Ryan very matter of factly said that those empty tables were reserved for other people. She then gave us the choice of the table she offered or a high top closer to the bar. She offered no apology, was curt and totally unaccommodating. Needless to say, the "reserved" tables stayed basically empty for the remainder of our visit. We will not be back. Too many other choices where the management actually makes you feel welcome. read more

The restaurant was attractive and comfortable and although it was busy it wasn't noisy. We went with another couple we hadn't seen for months but the server was patient with our need to talk and not order quickly. I ordered the beet salad and a white pizza and the menu prices looked reasonable. The salad was disappointing, I guess I was looking for more than four beets so stick with the side salad. The pizza was good but didn't stand out so were back with an attractive restaurants. So if you are looking for a nice atmosphere to have a few drinks and a light dinner with outdoor seating, if the weather ever warms up, this is a good choice. read more

I went there tonight for happy hour & left with a mixed review. PROS: nice ambiance, patio and convenient location. CONS: busy night (Friday before Labor Day weekend) & the entire staff seemed very confused. The bartender seemed confused about happy hour prices, we were told that we could get happy hour prices on the patio. No one waited on us or cleaned the table that the last patrons messed up. Then a waitress came out & said we had to order our drinks from the bar to get happy hour prices. She never came back to the table. We went inside & got happy hour prices on food & drink. They messed up the bill & the conversation was very confusing. Then about 30 min. later a waiter drops a boxed pizza in front of me (I ordered no food & drank only water). Hmmm... The long & short of it is that I think the place has potential. I think this is a management problem. No one seemed to know what was going on. Hopefully, they can get their act together. read more

I really wanted to like Grappa, but it was just a hair underwhelming. The food is solid, the service is good, but it wasn't a stand-out experience to me. I was initially disappointed that they had 3 different items on the menu that were either sold out or swapped for something completely different. My group is 3 couples with varying food preferences, including a vegetarian and a picky-eater, so that limited our selection. We ended up getting the meatball pizza and white pizza for appetizers, and I can confidently say that those were the highlight of the meal. The wait staff was constantly clearing plates and silverware, whether it was used or not and even after we asked them not to. That aspect felt wasteful to me. The entrees were okay, not spectacular, but good sized portions for the price. We ordered 3 different desserts to try a good selection and some were better than others. The panna cotta was really really good - I wished there was more!! The giant apple pie was tasty but too big (or the other desserts were too small...), and the cannoli were good... Overall, I would go back to try it again, hoping they'd have the other menu items I originally wanted to try! read more

For the price there are many other places in Rochester to hit first. That being said grappa wasn't bad just not good. The Brushetta app was so thick cut and crunchy you could barely eat it - required fork and knife - I have worked less to eat a steak. Shared 3 items chicken cutlet - salad on top was delish but the panko coating on the chicken was over fried - no competition for two vines classic. The fungi pizza had good favors but it a bit greasy for me. The high light was the bolognese sauce. Service: wow not good, the waiter couldn't have been more disinterested. However, the bus boy was really nice and attentive - we all agreed we would have been better served with him as our waiter. read more

No Bueno. Went to grappa Wednesday night. We were the only people in the place. We had ordered two appetizers, a pasta to share, and two entrees. The waitress asked if we would "like it to come all out at once". Clearly wanting to clock out and leave and not allow us to enjoy our meal. I corrected her and said no, appetizers first please, we will share the pasta for a middle course, and then have our entrees. Appetizers came out, "sautéed calamari" that seemed like it was boiled it was so chewy and the mussels which were the smallest mussels I have ever seen. The grilled bread and mussel broth were the highlight of course 1. The waitress then, despite our request, brought out the pasta and entrees at the same time. The carbonara was cold and my chicken cutlet was burnt. Needless to say, a trip to wegmans after leaving the restaurant for a $6 was in order read more

Our server Abby navigated us through the menu and gave us some suggestions We ordered the items she recommended and they were delicious! Farewell lunch with colleagues. We work in college town and come with some regularity. Actually had lunch there the Friday before and had a nice experience. This was a not a pleasant one. The women at the hostess stand were rude. They were out of pizza dough and wings. There were no specials. The panini's were burned. No one came back to check on us. Flagged down another server,was told they had just realized the panini grill was too hot. The woman at the hostess stand was handling food with no gloves, cutting bread, scratching her head, etc. We wrote an email to the manager and received a meager reply at best. It is really too bad. I've seen three businesses come and go now in college town. I'll concentrate my efforts on supporting the ones that truly want my business. read more

The restaurant is lovely, if a bit too loud. The front of house staff is excellent and hardworking, but is severely hampered by the extreme slowness of the kitchen. We waited over 30 minutes for drinks (2 ice teas and a soda), and they didn't have any Splenda. We waited 45 minutes just for a basket of bread. Our appetizer did finally arrive and was delicious (bruschetta - highly recommend). Our entrees were equally yummy, if also equally delayed. We very much enjoyed the smoked mozzarella ravioli and the Mediterranean pizza, but the mussels (very generous portion) although well cooked, had too much Pernod to be able to eat more than a couple. The risotto was flavorful, but was essentially a broth with rice and peas, lacking the creamy, cheesy sauce that marks a true risotto. And in an extremely odd version, the tiramisu was covered in nuts, making it inedible for anyone with a nut allergy. The commitment to customer service is above and beyond. The food, for the most part, is very good. However, until the kitchen acquires a competent expediter, it is probably not wise to go to Grappa if you are very hungry or short on time. read more

I liked this place, ambiance, food, drinks and decor. It was very new to me.. i liked their outside patio. The restaurant has formal and casual set up at same time. The place was busy all times, i cant believe they just opened up. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner..I was their in house guest so i used them for all my meals. they have wonderful breakfast buffet with eggs/other hot item to order by choice. I ordered margarita pizza for my lunch. it was well prepared and presented. But it took much longer to get on table, Dinner i ordered filet mignon and it was cooked just right. But again it came with delay. The service staff is friendly and caring. My breakfast server(Sook) was very courteous and friendly. He made me feel very welcome even crazy early in the morning. Well, what can I say? Well, here goes: I went here (not knowing anything about it) for a Brit Milah party. When i entered the restaurant i was instantly struck by the appearance and thought to my self (boy, is this going to be expensive.) Very high end looking, clean, and snobbish. We all sat in a private room while the Rabbi performed the Bris at a long table. The restaurant was very accommodating and set up mirrors so that all of us could see the Bris performed regardless of where we sat. Afterwards we all placed our orders. I ordered the Veal Parmesan because being a vegetarian i can't stand the thought of eating an animal. Well, when my food came out and I tasted it I called the waiter over immediately. I politely pointed out to him that my dish had meat in it. He tried to explain to me that the dish is what I ordered. I told him no way, veal was tofu after all and the chef must have made a mistake! He once again took a deep breath and very calmly explained to me that veal was actually a young cow and I must have thought I was ordering Vean, not veal. Well, after I got over the shock of the thought of eating a baby cow (what's next, baby chicks?!) he brought me a drink and told me to forget about it. So, he was so nice I did. My other favorite part of this place is the wonderful outdoor seating area. After we were done eating we all retired out to the fire pit. It was fantastic! It has the look and feel of a classic Indian firepit. They allow you to smoke out there and everything. I must have smoked a pack of cigarettes and had at least four more drinks. And, the best part is they bring your drinks out to you! I didn't have to venture inside for anything. My husband and I tried Grappa for the first time on Friday evening and it was a great! The place was pretty hoppin' and trendy - upscale, but not clubby or anything. They have a super cute outdoor area with fire pits, but it was a bit cold, so it would be worth coming when it gets warmer to sit outside. Their cocktail menu is unique and inviting and the drinks we ordered were nice. We both ordered pasta dishes and they were overall delicious. We also had very tasty cannolis for dessert. I know some folks here have complained about service, but I thought the service was fantastic. We were seated immediately, our waiter took our order very promptly and he was super attentive the entire time, and our food came out very quickly. So no complaints there at all! With all of the boring, family-oriented, dime-a-dozen, "one step above Olive Garden" Italian restaurants here in Rochester, I think it's exciting to see something different and with some fun atmosphere.
