Last night was our first and last experience at Grappa. We drove an hour with expectations of a great meal in a nice atmosphere. We were seated promptly in the wine bar at a table in the corner by the lounge area, which was fine. It was private, and cozy. We loved the squash and olive oil starter with warm bread, and the cheese they serve, but after 20 min and repeated attempts to get our waiter for drinks, and to order the appetizers, things got aggravating. The cozy table in the corner means you're invisible to the wait staff sadly.
Finally a waitress takes our order including our entrees. We figured while we had her, let's go for everything. Our drinks arrived...paid for by the waitress , who apologized for the long wait and said "the drinks are on me " ok, great, that's very nice. Our appetizers arrived, the buffalo mozzarella appetizer was great, the eggplant shrimp appetizer which was a special was great, but dinner arrived an hour after the apps and during that hour, nearly impossible to get a drink. We didn't even have water. We finally get our waitress when the food arrives, and ask for a wine list. Never got it......we were 10 min into our entrees before our waitress came back, with 2 glasses of cabernet, she abruptly sat down in front of us and off she went. OK. No wine list, no choice of red or white, this is it. This is what you get. At least we finally have SOMETHING to drink we thought, and we knew we'd never get anything if we walked over and made an issue out of it.
As for the entrees, my husband had pappardelle with short ribs, lacking salt and flavor, a completely bland tasteless dish, without even a piece of short rib to be found. I had salmon with shrimp and asparagus, again no salt, no sauce to tie the dish together. Just grilled salmon, which was good, but as good as anyone could do at home and mashed potatoes..... the shrimp and asparagus were as if they were boiled and placed on the plate, with whole raw cherry tomatoes, whole barely cooked garlic and boiled broccoli.....no salt, no flavor. Just a bunch of things put on a plate. No thought in that plate, no creativity, no flavor in either dish. So basically, we spent 135.00 for a a couple of appetizers we enjoyed , while feeling completely frustrated the entire time trying to get the attention of the wait staff, drinking cabernet we didn't want or ask for, and eating our very disappointing entrees. We also came to hate the little table in the far corner because the musicians came in during dinner and started setting up right next to us. A very noisy situation, because they had to move all the lounge furniture around to get setup, a few times, not just once. Not their fault but certainly when we were seated there, they could've mentioned it. We would've happily sat at the bar. The whole experience was frustrating and disappointing after reading all the great yelps about this place. We went in with anticipation and left knowing we'll never waste our time and money there again. Great ambience, terrible service, very mediocre food. NEVER AGAIN read more
