Staff accompanied us in the elevator to our respective floor. This show had signature drinks and concessions near the elevators. There's a restroom on the floor with the stage. Blackbox feel. The show we caught felt like an alt-comedy production out of Chicago. So grand! There's street and lot parking. Keep in mind, it's downtown so mind the local signs. I took a gamble on a small, local theater that was performing the musical stage production of the…read morepopular Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein. My husband and I love and often quote the cult classic film, so I optimistically bought tickets through RCT website for the last weekend the stage production was playing. The theater is tucked into a rarely visited strip mall. There was lots of parking. The entrance lobby was quite plain, but spacious. At the end of the hall, we picked up our tickets at will call. Around the corner was a small concession stand selling cute, small buckets of old, stale popcorn, cookies, soda as well as beer and wine. The theater area has old cinema seats on a raked platform. You could clearly see the stage since the seats were well staggered so you weren't looking at the back of someone's head. Unfortunately , the seats never seem wide enough, and you always find yourself fighting for the shared armrest. At least the bottom cushion was supportive and comfortable. I could have easily sat there through both acts and the intermission. The cast was phenomenal! They sang beautifully, danced with decent precision, strutted around in some amazing costumes while taking us on a near perfect rendition of the actual movie. Lighting and background sets were somewhat limited, but what they had worked great and didn't detract from the show. The comedy was there and they even threw in a few extra jabs at local politicians to the delight of the audience. It appears they focus on some classic theater productions throughout the year. Shows that are known and loved by everyone (White Christmas, Annie, Mamma Mia, etc.). It seems like a winning formula that is working for them. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another date night.

It was a fun day in historic Grapevine, Texas for the 42nd Annual Main Street Fest. They shut down…read more7 blocks of Main Street for foot traffic and line the center of the road with food trucks and arts & craft booths. There was a full size carnival at the north end and a huge stage with live entertainment. There was also a high wire act over Main Street. They were celebrating their Golden Jubilee for Mayor Tate, having served for 50 years. As part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, it's nice that Grapevine has kept its unique flavor and charm. From vintage trains to glass blowing and blacksmithing and other artists, there are plenty of interesting things to see here. Don't forget the craft beer and local wines you can sample here, too.

The main stage has a covered area to sit and eat and drink and enjoy local entertainment in the shade. The huge carnival area was packed with kids and adults having fun. Very unique, interesting, and eye opening show. Loved that the actors interacted with the audience, made some mistakes--which is totally fine, and provided a real face to what black women are experiencing in their 30s. So glad that I called when I did to get tickets when I did as this is the final weekend and they are sold out! Loved that the actors greeted us after the show and I cannot wait to come back!

It's so wonderful to do something different on a Friday night and support local artists. From what…read moreI can gather each show is a little different? We went with past Friday. The "magic parlor" is in a space on Exposition near Fair Park. There's street parking or a couple of paid lots if the street is full. The space is pretty small, but didn't feel cramped with 50 or so guests. I booked my ticket online for $20 through Prekindle. You can also pay another $10 to reserve seats in the front two rows. We strolled in and they checked us in. Seats were first come first serve so we were in the very back. My friend brought in his cooler of booze, but I also noticed there were a few free bottles of wine at the front and some bottle water. Very nice! David Jessup a local comedian opened the show and was the MC all night between acts with the help of Audrey Grace who opened and closed the curtains and held up the applause sign when David was bombing (haha). There were a couple of burlesque dancers at this show. One, Bethany Summersizzle, danced a few times. The other, Jai Le Bait did crazy stunts like swallow a knife! Confetti Eddie is the main performer and he reminded me of the old timey black and white movies where the folks didn't talk. He was so cute and charming. He did a few corny magic tricks that were still very fun to watch! Popper Zander was on hand this Friday night and played a few songs of her own that went well the night's burlesque/side show theme. Overall we had such a fun night. It's kind of awesome turning your cell phone off for an hour or so and enjoying a show with live performers. Both were very good and the tricks were fun. The venue is very intimate and had only seats 50 or so - which meant that virtually all of the audience had the chance to participate in the show at some point. The show itself had several acts along with two musical interludes from the Wild Natives (who were also quite good). Afterwards the performers invite the audience for drinks at one of the bars close by. We had a great time and would recommend it.
