We went here for a Murder Mystery Dinner. What a great show! The actors were in character as soon as you walk into the doors. You are seated immediately with the salad ready at your table. Dinner comes first so the salad and entree came at the beginning while the characters/actors mingle and introduce themselves. The food was alright. I ordered Country Fried Steak as my main entree. After eating the main entree, they did the First Act. The characters were hilarious and interacted with the audience. Then came dessert and I ordered the cheesecake. After dessert, they did the Second Act then we guessed as a team whodunit. They change murderers every weekend so you can go multiple times and bring your friends! I decided to try this place for my birthday with some friends. The reservation process is very user-friendly and selecting your meal beforehand makes for quick service. Parking is not easy close to the theater due to the small location, so carpool if possible. The dining area is small, but that means that everyone can hear the actors easily. The food is nothing special, but it is good and I particularly enjoyed the mousse cake I got for dessert. The show is what makes Texas Star worth the price tag. The actors are very polished performers and do great improv with the audience. It was over-the-top, silly and overall a great show. My crew and I laughed through the whole story and agreed that it was a great birthday party. Most important things first: full bar with service before and during the show! The food is good - we had the beef (chicken fried steak, veggies, mashed potatoes) and the fish (tilapia, rice, veggies), plus salads and desserts. We weren't expecting much from dinner, but it was good and served super quickly! The show is hilarious and definitely worth a visit. The seating is comfortable, there are tables of 4, 6, and 8, so you may end up meeting some new friends, depending on your group size. It was funny and a good mystery, and there are no bad seats in the place. Servers were fast and responsive, actors and fun and interactive, and everyone gets a photo afterward (if you want one). Parking is the only part that not ideal. We got there early and got a lucky spot, but you may have to pay to park in the garage across the street or find downtown parking. They do have two lots for the theater, shared with the adjoining bar (Chill), but the spots go fast! read more

This place was so much fun! I usually have a pretty good time at venues like these, but I think most people will enjoy a cute bit of theater and a fun meal! The meal better than I anticipated. There is plenty of parking nearby. The "theater" Is also the dining area, so you are in the thick of it! Don't worry though - it is only mildly interactive, so even the introverts like me will be ok. The tables seat six, so be aware you will be meeting some new friends unless you are in a group of six or more. I wasn't sure if I would actually get it but I did! The venue is not too big and not too small but it did get pretty loud from everyone talking and having fun! I've always wanted to a do a murder mystery dinner ever since I figured out what they were. Low and behold, my friend was hitting the big 3-0, and this is what she wanted to do for her birthday! I of course was the last one in my group to show up. I walked to the front desk, and checked in. After checking in I then was taken to my table. As I was being seated, I was surprised anticipating a stage .However, I was delighted to find out the actors would be acting around the audience. Shortly, we were informed by one of the actors the schedule for the evening, and then were served our dinner. The dinner was a three course meal (that you choose ahead of time with your ticket). Of course, I'm always skeptical with food at events like this being tasty; however, my food was a a large portion, and was very flavorful. You could order drinks on the cocktail and wine menu for extra charge, and of course I got the house wine, and tried a Nutella cocktail. In regards to the show, the cast was very funny and cheesy. We, as well as most teams, were able to solve the mystery. I had a great time taking notes, trying to figure out all the clues, and interacting with my friends ad the actors in the process.The restrooms were clean and easily accessible, and the staff was very attentive. Overall, I would love to come back again! I loved the show, and recommend to everyone to try out at least once. My first dinner theater experience and it was enjoyable. When you purchase your tickets you must chose your dinner out of 4 options. Out table had 2 of the 4 options and everyone enjoyed their meal. The salad and dessert were great too. The real reason that you visit is for the murder mystery experience. While this show is not a Broadway show, it was fun, energetic, and interactive...you are a part of the show. Just when you have the mystery figured out they reveal that you are wrong...You work as a table to figure discover the murderer. Those tables that do figure it out won a T-shirt on the night we attended. The waitstaff is very attentive and work to keep your libations coming. The show is family friendly. There were several children present during the show and they appeared to have fun as well. Overall this was a fun evening with good friends. read more

In the unusual position of having an experience SO bad that after writing a long review on it elsewhere, I signed up for a Yelp account just to let people know what they're in for. And that was: bad food with an unfunny, shockingly racist stage play attached. Don't waste your time and money, especially if you're indigenous, queer, or a decent human being. After some stress, it was a relief to finally sit down at one of the things that my wife and I were looking forward to: the murder mystery dinner. The staff were friendly, the people at our table were nice, and it seemed like we were in for a good time. We got our food and it was mediocre. I was surprised at how flavorless and chewy the chicken that I got was. It literally tasted store bought. I ended up trading with my wife, but I think we both ended up feeling like it was underwhelming. The alcohol, at least, was good, although fairly strong. But we weren't there for the food. Before the show, I jokingly referred to the whole thing as Texas Chuck-E-Chees, "a Texas-themed restaurant in the already Texas-themed Texas." But I was excited to get to the interactive segments, and when the first act started my wife took notes! Ironically, Chuck-E-Cheese sets the standards way too high. The actors are enthusiastic and do a decent performance, but they make no effort to make you feel immersed in the story - one of them very quickly made a joke about Elon Musk firing people from Twitter, a joke that simultaneously feels like it's trying too hard to be fresh while also being completely stale (like the food.) They're also bad at improvising. It became clear that the performers have a strict script and aren't good at going off script. The performers made a running gag about someone at our table having an ugly shirt, but his shirt was a totally plain green polo with a plain red jacket over it. Nobody at any other table could see his shirt, so it was clear that they just pick a Shirt Guy every performance whether it makes sense or not. The guy at our table was funnier, because he kept taking the jacket off, making the performers actually have to improv. At one point, he was asked to sit, so he sat ON the chair instead of IN the chair, crouched on top of it. Thank you, shirt guy. None of this is a dealbreaker and we could have had a good night. But the performers INCESSANTLY went for dated, cheap offensive humor that made my wife and I feel alienated, even angry. There was CONSTANT "no homo" humor about men being feminine or gay. Things like two men fighting who break off with disgust because a woman tells them to "get a room," or a heavyset bearded man continually referring to getting emotional or being attracted to another man as if these things are inherently comical. Before we left, there was even an implication that a feminine female character might be male, which was immediately followed by a character calling a man a "sissy." The homophobia is also layered on a general gross mean-spiritedness. There was so often I felt completely uncomfortable, and so many times I felt it would have been worse if I was targeted by one of the cast. There are repeated jokes about sexual harassment, taking women home drunk, and cheating. The cast repeatedly insults everyone they interact with. At one point a female character pretends to make out with a male audience member, which I can't imagine is comfortable (especially if you're married.) And then she insulted him anyway. By now, I was ready to leave. Not wanting to have the performers say something, I waited to tell my wife we'd go until the intermission. Then one of the (all white) performers went into an extremely long and excruciating bit about his "wife." I knew where it was going as soon as he said "or my wife will scalp me - literally!", but it was agonizing hearing him spit out every imaginable racist stereotype about indigenous people, fake "tribe" names, reference "teepees." What century is this? I left worse than disappointed, but infuriated and upset. I wanted a refund but was so angry I just left instead. After an incredible day meeting wonderfully kind, friendly strangers, it felt like a reminder of Texas as its most insulated and conservative. Abysmal. (And they didn't even give us the fake mustaches we paid for.) read more

At 7:25 there were about 35 people waiting for the doors to open. It was raining and cold and only shelter big enough to cover about 6 of us. The manager refused to open the door before 7:30. In fact, the door didn't open until 7:41. Horrible customer service. read more

Came here with a group of 16 on a Friday night. We had a very fun time. The actors perform among the tables and all five were excellent. The entire "play" was very entertaining. I was equally impressed with the quality of the food! They have a varied menu and all of us enjoyed our salads (Which I thought were a bit too small), entrées, and their excellent desserts. They also had a good selection of cocktails beers and wines. My only criticism's were that the entrées came to slowly, and the overall experience lasted a bit too long. I was "done" about a half an hour before the theater show ended. They let you in at 7 PM, the performance starts at 8 PM and we did not leave till just after 10:30 PM. Having said that, I can highly recommend going at least once. Also, they change the "murder" among the four possible subjects each weekend, so you can go more than once. Be warned, some of their humor is derived from teasing members of the audience. If you don't like being singled out, this might not be the best form of entertainment for you. However, it was all a very good fun and harmless. read more

It was our first time to go to a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The cast was delightful and were each perfectly suited for the roles in which they played. They were full of personality, dramatic and fun. We loved that they were even having fun and laughing at each other's jokes, as parts of the show are impromptu. The location and setting was perfect for the western-themed show, which had a cute storyline. Lots of one-liners and jokes that are strategically incorporated into the show. Also, the food was so much better than we anticipated. It was actually pretty good (which we really didn't expect), so we were pleasantly surprised. I will say, although I try to eat healthy most of the time, it's worth taking a cheat meal to get the chicken fried steak - it's not the cheap, restaurant quality typically served but actually a higher quality cut of steak that appeared to be hand breaded and fried. I ordered the chicken and my date ordered the chicken fried steak. Although mine was good, he definitely won the ordering game. Thankfully, he shared some of his with me. Overall, a great experience in which I will highly recommend to friend and family. read more

If you feed me, AND make me laugh, I might fall in love with you! North Texas, if even the slightest bit of humor resides inside your body, this is a place you have to go. TSDT is a wandering murder mystery. Your party will be seated at your assigned table while the actors greet everyone. You choose your meal and dessert ahead of time. Your meal is promptly delivered to your table to begin the evening. As you finish your meal, the play begins. There is no stage. The actors wander around the room, speaking loud and clearly so everyone can hear. At the end of act one, you have dessert. At the end of act two, you get to question the actors to figure out who the murderer is. Put your guess on a piece of paper and turn it in. At the end of act three, they reveal who the villain is. The winning table get free t shirts! Cool! Oh, did I forget to mention this is a comedy murder mystery? You will laugh till your sides hurt. Each actor plays his or her part perfectly. The plot will twist and turn till you have no idea who the killer is. Is there audience participation? Absolutely! I got to join in, and believe me, I will never touch that cloth dinner napkin again! While everyone was wonderful, "Smitty", the bumbling stage hand, was the star of the show. I haven't laughed that hard in such a long time! The show is every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30. Do yourself, and your wife/girlfriend/partner a favor and attend one of these shows. The show changes a couple times a year and we will definitely attend the next one. Texas dinner theater was fun! We had never gone to dinner theater, so we had no expectations! The cast of actors were top notch! Talented and energetic too! I would say to be prepared for jokes and laughs galore! Arrive just after the doors open for the best parking. Parking is free, and we did not see any handicap parking in the area. They were nice and opened for us a few minutes early for my mom who has trouble getting around. My emails from them didn't seem to have the QR code needed and that slowed down our check in. If possible take a screenshot of that QR code, have that ready on your smart phone, and bring your ID to check in. Parking is not on the side of the building you enter. The door is on the Main Street side. I put all the challenges we had in the notes on our tickets, but not sure those got to the manager anyway. Added a bit of stress for us given our situation, but they worked with us and we got settled in fine. There were loads of birthdays and anniversaries being celebrated in the audience and they do try to include everyone and give a brief shout out at the beginning of the evening. The show was interactive for sure. Actors rib and tease the audience members throughout the show. Sometimes even sitting on laps or hugging folks! Some humor was geared towards grownups only. I didn't hear anything that would be offensive really and we were engaged and entertained the whole time. You are paying for the show and get to eat while you are there. The food was so-so, but that is not why you are there! Just keep that in mind. The bar was good, service was great and bathrooms were clean. Tips for the servers and actors are not included in your ticket price - you should bring cash for that. Beverages (with exception of iced tea and water) are extra. They will run a bar tab for you and you can add tips to that if needed. Some tables were communal seating, a private table is extra $40. Photos are okay after the show, no flash photos during the show. There is no stage. No bad seat in the house either! There were loud gun shots during the show and some shouting at times. So if you are sensitive to noise or have hearing aides take note. We had fun and laughed. It was a great night! Perfect way to celebrate mom's 80th birthday! We'll be back for sure! My boyfriend and I went here for their holiday show Unseasonable Greedings and had a blast! Super funny and laughed a ton. The actors are great at involving the audience. They milk around and talk to guests before the show and afterwards as well. The food was really good. We both had the chicken fried steak with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. It was hot and yummy!!!! My boyfriend had the pecan pie and I had the cheesecake. The pecan pie was definitely better than the cheesecake but that would be the only thing that was less than delicious. They have a bar with mixed drink, beer and wine and our server was great! This is the second Murder Mystery I've participated in with Texas Star Dinner Theater. In '07, I attended the Mein Shaft show in their previous (much more opulent but certainly much more expensive) digs at the Gaylord Texan resort. They now make their home in a standalone building in the same lot as bar and eatery Chill (see my review of that place, it's awesome). Our food service was a package deal that my employer had arranged (it was a team building event), so we were basically served a set meal that we chose from a small menu. My choice was a grilled tilapia with seasonal vegetables, and it was pretty good, as was the cheesecake for dessert. A full bar is available, but we didn't partake as our company was also chipping in on drinks afterward at Chill. But hey, you don't come to these things for the food. It's all about the show, and in this area, they did a great job. The show is put on literally in the middle of the participants, with the actors milling about and interacting with the audience as the show progressed. Even better: since they were doing a special show just for us, they worked in some terms and names that had relevance to our company which made for some fantastic laughter and a great time. The actors stayed on script for the most part, but there were a couple of times that fate intervened, causing some improvisation, but the results were even more hilarious. All in all, these guys put on a great show and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a great time. My only quibbles are the more limited dining choices compared to their old home, and parking, which is at a premium. But don't let those things discourage you, go do it! read more

i would have given more stars but I just didnt think the price was right for the service. It was pretty expensive to get a meal plus a 90 minute show. However, i wanted to take my out of town guest to a Texan show with cowboys and all. We got there about 20 minutes before showtime. The seats are assigned but the room is medium sized and you can see the show no matter where you are sitting. Just need to make some adjustments if the actors are moving around. We introduced ourselves to everyone, and then we got our meals. The food was ok. A bit on the oily side, but hey we are in TX and they do love their butter. It was a meal I could have made at home though, so nothing spectacular about it. The show was really good, they cracked jokes, some of them were politically related (again, we are in the red state), so it didn't bother me. I think if you tell them ahead of time that you are there for a birthday or special event, they will include that person in the show a lot. Which was cool to watch them get all embarrassed, haha. I didn't find the acting unbearable at all, I think they did a really good job, but either have more of a selection on cuisine or just drop the price a bit for the ticket. read more

This dinner theater experience made a great date night experience. Appetizers: dinner started out with fresh salads that were the perfect size. You had a choice of ranch or Italian dressing. The yeast rolls were tasty and very fresh. Main entrée: I had the chicken and hubby had chicken grief steak. It's very easy to overlook chicken, but mine was delicious and cooked perfectly. Husband's chicken fried steak was good too. Dessert: I had chocolate mousse and husband had cheesecake. Our neighbor had carrot cake. Everyone ate all if their desserts. You can mark this off your list of places to visit in Grapevine. My husband surprised me with what was supposed to be a nice date night. As soon as we walked in we were singled out by the manager. We sat at a table in the back, could not see or hear anything. If we did laugh, the manager told us to be quiet. The manger also grabbed my arm, I am sorry but you definitely are not allowed to touch a woman you don't know. So dispite all this I have respectfully waited to write my review until we spoke to the owner. He claimed we were drunk and supposedly reached out to other guests around us which is NOT true because being from grapevine I knew a another 3 couples there that I guess "he just happened to not talk to." The owner also claimed that we were not present for naming our table, which is also not true because if you ever go, you understand that you do in the beginning. I would hate for you to go and think that this how Texans treat people, treat women and treat someone in the military. If you want a quite date night with no fun, this place is for you.
