Folks line up down Hickory street to watch the coffin races, the nearby bars livestream the coffin races, special t-shirt prints are made for this event, local vendors set up tents to sell their goods, and people come dressed up in their Halloween costumes. If there's any event that embodies what is "truly Denton", it's the Day of the Dead Festival!

This year the event was the whole weekend, before it was only one full day. The coffin races are so unique! Local businesses build their drivable coffins to race down the street. Coffin races are all day so you'll have plenty time to enjoy them and attend the other activities in the day. These coffins are so creative and really adds personality to the business. It gives us a fun perception of the businesses. Winner takes trophy and bragging rights. There is a Pumpkin Patch kids area with bounce houses, face paintings and games. Cirque du Horror, Haunted Maze, Costume Contest, Twilight Lantern Parade are some of the scheduled activities. Lots of vendors with cool and unique goods. Food, popcorn, and beer tents. Live bands and the list goes on! It's usually held around the end of October. https://dentondayofthedeadfestival.com/

There were many elaborate costumes and people were in character and spoke with some sort of English accent. Food: This is medieval Europe after all...don't expect the highest quality food. Expect high prices though! A turkey leg was $19 and a chicken breast on a stick was $15+! Sysco Chicken tenders and fries were $15+. The food was awful. Come snacked and ready! Vendors: There are a ton of small businesses and vendors. Many of these businesses sell medieval themed handmade armor, garments, and accessories. Overall, I had a good time at my first Renaissance festival. There was plenty to do, and lots of entertainment scattered in the park.

And people really get into costume and character! There is no pressure to dress up though. Everyone is welcome! At the fall fest they had some add on, a haunted house, and a fun house. Highly recommend the fun house, and was delightful and unsettling (don't do it if you can't handle clowns!). I plan to go regularly, and really hope they keep the fall festival going!

I have attended Ice! in the past many times and I always loved it! I remember the first one I went…read morewas 'Christmas Around the world', I seen "how the grinch stole christmas" and I remember the Penuts theme one as well so when I saw Elf I knew I had to come and see it. I use to have a coworker who worked for the company that promoted the Ice and he was able to get me tickets for like $20 each but not anymore so I did not go as often. There are lots of discount codes you can use to save money on tickets. You can also save money by going during a non-peak day/time. Of course, it will be crowded during the weekend and it will be crowded during certain times of the evening. Also another thing to keep in mind is if there are any kind of conventions going on. When I went in 2025 there was some kind of nation wide chruch convention and all the common areas were more packed. This also affected the parking situation. At one point, I remember parking use to be free, and from there, parking use to be $20 and now its $25. When you park, there is a long, long walk to where the actual ice exhibit is. After 20ish minutes of walking, you will get to the entrance and they will scan your ticket and then get a jacket from them. The jacket is free to use, but it could be thicker and more insulated. I always gone by myself and even if I am 15 min pass my entrance time they still let me in. I don't wait in lines since I go on weekdays but in 2025 year I ended up going the last week it was open, and I still did not experience a single line for the exhibit. I went and was able to get my pictures, it was not crowded, I could move around and there were not annoying little kids running or crying. I knew going in they would be charging a outragous ammount of money for things at the souvenir shop. I went on the last weekend of the exhibit, and to my surprise, everything in the gift shop was 50% off!! wow! I got shirts for $5 and some of the sweatshirts that were originally $60 I got for $10! Sizes were limited, but i think that is going to be my move from now on. Wait till the last weekend for 50% off, use a discount code from the Dallas love list, and go during a non-peak time and pre-pay for parking. I cant wait to see what they will have next year.

Locals peddling thier products they have spent hours crafting with love to others in the community. And the city was so supportive of the vendors- the city employees working the event were constantly making rounds insuring everything was going well and the visitors were having a good time. The Mayor even came around and was shaking everyone's hand and taking selfies with the booth vendors. I see you, Mr. Mayor Jim. They had a ton of food and local bands/ performers as well. My favorite was Poly Hwy- go check them out on FB. They were Polynesian and had a very island-y vibe. It was the perfect chill music to have playing while you stroll around. John Tipton was second- dude if you are reading this- that was the best cover of Bad Leroy Brown ever! And all of this was FREE! Silver Dollar Winery was serving up vino- although I wish they would have had the frozen peachy wine slushie- hint hint for next year guys ;). Crazy Cowboy was smoking up a storm and slinging brisket sandwiches and Rahr beer. La Rosita truck was also there in case you had a hankering for a taco. Bedford is a hidden gem guys, real talk. It was a beautiful day and a great spot for all this fun. Bookmark this and meet me there next year!
