Folks line up down Hickory street to watch the coffin races, the nearby bars livestream the coffin races, special t-shirt prints are made for this event, local vendors set up tents to sell their goods, and people come dressed up in their Halloween costumes. If there's any event that embodies what is "truly Denton", it's the Day of the Dead Festival!

This year the event was the whole weekend, before it was only one full day. The coffin races are so unique! Local businesses build their drivable coffins to race down the street. Coffin races are all day so you'll have plenty time to enjoy them and attend the other activities in the day. These coffins are so creative and really adds personality to the business. It gives us a fun perception of the businesses. Winner takes trophy and bragging rights. There is a Pumpkin Patch kids area with bounce houses, face paintings and games. Cirque du Horror, Haunted Maze, Costume Contest, Twilight Lantern Parade are some of the scheduled activities. Lots of vendors with cool and unique goods. Food, popcorn, and beer tents. Live bands and the list goes on! It's usually held around the end of October. https://dentondayofthedeadfestival.com/

I tried to let it go and not make a big deal about it, but they kept following me around and harassing me the whole time. It completely ruined my experience even though everything else was great about it. Get better staff that doesn't demoralize the customers just because they think it's funny. I refuse to ever come back to this place because it has happened twice now. You're probably thinking "maybe i did something to deserve it", but when you're just standing there with your family trying to eat and start getting yelled at and made fun of for having red hair repeatedly, it starts to grate on your nerves. I can take a joke or two, but to not only non stop bash on me for it, but decide to follow me halfway around the park continuing the 'joke'? Not only the one time I came, but TWICE. So much for a family friendly environment.....

The paid staff as well as the "playtrons" (paying customers who dress up and behave in character just for fun) make this an immersive experience. Don't miss the mermaid lagoon - the mermaids there never break character and look as real as any Hollywood film set. Wear comfortable shoes and be sure to bring cash - many of the merchants are cash only.

Locals peddling thier products they have spent hours crafting with love to others in the community. And the city was so supportive of the vendors- the city employees working the event were constantly making rounds insuring everything was going well and the visitors were having a good time. The Mayor even came around and was shaking everyone's hand and taking selfies with the booth vendors. I see you, Mr. Mayor Jim. They had a ton of food and local bands/ performers as well. My favorite was Poly Hwy- go check them out on FB. They were Polynesian and had a very island-y vibe. It was the perfect chill music to have playing while you stroll around. John Tipton was second- dude if you are reading this- that was the best cover of Bad Leroy Brown ever! And all of this was FREE! Silver Dollar Winery was serving up vino- although I wish they would have had the frozen peachy wine slushie- hint hint for next year guys ;). Crazy Cowboy was smoking up a storm and slinging brisket sandwiches and Rahr beer. La Rosita truck was also there in case you had a hankering for a taco. Bedford is a hidden gem guys, real talk. It was a beautiful day and a great spot for all this fun. Bookmark this and meet me there next year!

I've been pigging out too much. Stop temping me after this! gym time errrday in May!!!! it's nice that they gather up all around you for once so you wouldnt have to drive around for different trucks. I really wanted Ssahm though! that is my favorite truck ever! they weren't there! sad days....:(. They had some of the trucks thats been around and some new I've never even heard of. I went on a Friday and there was not much to do. No music...just trucks. I can't possibly eat food from all those trucks ok? please find other entertainment! the chairs for the table could be better. They were so flimsy, I thought my badonkadonk butt was going to fall off. How embarrassing would that be? yikes!

Lots of sweet trucks (whatsdascoop, cup cakin', short and sweet) and even more savory ones. There we plenty of tables and chairs, as well as the area inside the Ballpark for seating. All in all I look forward to this annual event to help cancer and get my truck grub on.
