I can't say enough about doctor services. outstanding advice, quality of care and support staff.

I've been seeing Dr. Service and his dental hygienist Betty for the past year and a half. Dr. Service is very personable although after my first appointment in which he took new ex-rays and really did a whole check-up I haven't seen him more then ten minutes during the appointments. Betty has a great personality and does a wonderful job with my cleanings. She and Dr. Service do a great job giving recommendations and answering my questions. The cleanings cost $135 per visit and the only thing I'd recommend is to make sure you have your insurance straightened out. I'm still on the parental plan and the insurance checks are mailed to them directly instead of the dentist office (insurance--ugh). You just have to remember to send the check to Dr. Service because they won't come calling until you have a interest fee, just be aware. I like the way the appointments are made, you can either schedule them six months out or receive a phone call a month in advance (which is more convenient to me as I'm not always sure what six-months out looks like). I've never waited long in the office for an appointment but if I did I'm not sure I would notice because I'm too focused on the tank of lovely fish and many magazines for browsing. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Service as our dentist for almost 8 years now. He's got a good practice located in North Durham. Here's why we like him; 1. IT SAVVY. He's got his office very well organized. Calendar, reviews, etc. are all well handled, very little paper. 2. CLEAN TEETH. He's got great oral hygenists. One of them even splits her time with a pediatric dentistry group. 3. KID FRIENDLY. He made a little mold of our 2 year old's hand and suggested he come watch us get our teeth cleaned a few times so that his first experience with a dentist wasn't just sitting in the chair. 4. ON TIME. You get in, you get out, teeth are cleaned. He's a great dentist, we highly recommend him. read more

Yeah, I gave a dentist 5 stars. Want to make something of it? :) I went to Dr. Service for years when I lived in NC. He was close to my office at Duke and later when I lived in Durham it was a no brainer. I had the same hygienist the whole time - Betty - and she is terrific. I would schedule my appointments around her. Dr. Service is very professional and caring and does a fine job. As much as I dislike going to the dentist, it was a pleasure to go to his office and get my teeth cleaned. I had 4 crowns put in during our time together and I think just a filling or two. Full disclosure: I do not have a fear of dental visits, while my husband would probably rather have his eye poked out than have dental work performed. But even being blessed with no fear of dentists, I can't say enough about the outstanding practice of Dr. Grant Service. He is extremely good at what he does and I have never felt so much as the novocaine needle - he's very gentle with every type of procedure. I just had the second root canal of my life, the first one done years ago in another city with the joys of "laughing gas" and when Dr. Service told me he didn't use it, I admit that made me a tiny bit nervous, but I felt nothing at all! It was completely painless and I just listened to a podcast on my iPhone in case I needed a distraction, but everything was perfectly pleasant and relaxing. Dr. Service and his staff have wonderful personalities and make it a pleasure to visit their office. Yes, I am saying it: I actually look forward to going to the dentist now that I have Dr. Service and his exceptional staff to take care of me. Now if only I could get my husband to believe me that it won't hurt and that he doesn't have to be knocked out for a simple filling. Trust me, go to Dr. Service and you won't be sorry. He is the best, and I'm a person who tends to love my dentists anyway, but I'm ranking him heads and shoulders above all others I've seen in the many cities in which I've lived. read more

I went to Dr. Service as a new patient that had recently moved to NC. Overall, Dr Service and his staff were great. They were very competent, did a great job with my cleaning and I definitely appreciated how the office effectively used technology to show me (using pictures) what was going on with my dental hygiene. The office was a bit more expensive than what I've seen elsewhere, but my initial reaction is that it is worth it for the higher level of quality/service. read more

I love this office! They are sooo nice and helpful! Every aspect of my visit from making the initial appointment to check out was exceptional! Ellen usually makes the appointments and is the sweetest thing! Tanya is the usually the last one you see before you leave. She is very helpful in making follow up appointments and is very accomodating. Tanya is very good at handling insurance issues and knows the ins and outs. TIna is my hygienist and she is gentle and very thourough! She has a very pleasant personality and is easy to talk with! Dr Service did a root canal on me and I never felt a thing! THe recovery was nothing and never had any pain afterwards. His assistant was so sweet and made me feel at ease. All this in a nutshell makes a trip to the dentist easier. I usually do not write reviews but the service I received from Dr. Service was so much beyond my expectations that I decided to spend time on letting others know and certainly recommend him. I got a filling from my front tooth fallen out over a long (Labor day) weekend. The filling was, actually almost half the front tooth--it looked so awful without it that I was sitting home all the Labor day weekend not stepping out anywhere. Dr. Service gave me the same day appointment although I was the new patient. Besides that, his work was fantastic--he is unbelievably professional. I am having problems with front teeth since high school (for more than 20 years now) and that was the best service I received over all these years, and the best doctor I've met since I came to US 14 years ago. The tooth, in fact, looks now much better than before the old filling got broken--I am glad it fell. He also put a layer on the other front tooth (which also has a filling, did not fell out yet) so that they look same, and I must say it is almost hard to notice there are filings there at all. Compared to my previous doctor who suggested putting veneers for tens of thousands of dollars so that these front teeth look better--I can't believe what Dr. Service did is possible. read more
