Front desk: 5 Communication: 5 Service: 5 Date/Time: 1/27/2020 3:30pm I was a previous client here and had to leave due to a change in insurance which they didn't accept at the time. Since then, I've had to switch dentists 3 times. The reason... the bar was high coming out of Stansell and was hard to find the same level of service. I finally have switched to insurance that is accepted by Stansell so of course I came back. Upon calling the front desk on Wednesday for an issue I wanted to get looked at for a 2nd opinion, I was given an appointment with Dr Kat the following Monday. And, the evening of the call, I received an email to sign up on the patient portal which allowed me to upload the xrays from the previous dentist along with my medical history. I walked in on Monday and the front desk had me just sign a HIPAA form and I was set..... efficiency! Gabriella(sp?) brought me in and asked for details of the issue I had. She actually discussed it with me face to face and even provided some recommendations based on her husband's similar experiences. All the other dentists offices seemed to just want to process you, not really sit down and discuss things (especially the last one I had). Then, Dr Kat came in and really went into some great explanations before and after her examination. I asked several questions and she answered them with full dialogue until I was satisfied. Then she offered up some possible recommendations that she'll know more certain when I come back in for a cleaning and new xrays since my previous cleaning was just a few months ago. I don't really give out 5 stars very easily but I had a hard time finding any reason not to in this case (should I deduct a star because I had to walk in the rain to get in the building as they didn't come out and hold an umbrella over me?... yeah you're right... too picky :-) ). Everyone in the office was very friendly, efficient and actually seemed to like their jobs! And, I know Dr Stansell reads these reviews so please tell your folks GREAT JOB! Let me start off my saying my experiences with the dentists Dr. Stansell and Dr. Mukka were fantastic. What ultimately made me leave the clinic after 3 years is the horrible customer service and poorly run office. Regular cleanings that should take 45 minutes took 3 hours because of wait times. You can tell there are not enough staff for the number of patients being treated. The final straw for me occurred when I attempted to order a bite guard. My order was canceled without my knowledge and after a week of back and forth they still were not able to order the bite guard. I do not recommended this dentist and will be going elsewhere after this experience. read more

I chose Stansell Dentistry based on their advertising for same-day crowns. Before the Holidays , the prep for a crown was completed elsewhere (including X-rays and a temporary crown) and was looking to avoid multiple appointments. Unfortunately, this decision turned into a frustrating ordeal involving miscommunication, poor craftsmanship, disorganization between their offices, and a billing issue that's still unresolved. My appointment was on January 13, 2025 at the Brier Creek location. I made it clear I was there to complete the crown in one visit. After intake, the visit was repeatedly redirected--Their first pitch was for a deep cleaning (despite my recent routine cleaning), then an unnecessary X-ray. Finally, they began the numbing process for the crown. At that point, I was casually informed they didn't have the material for the crown and couldn't finish the procedure. One staff member literally shrugged and said, "Bad news--we're out of the 3D printer material in your enamel color." Instead of delivering the service they advertised, they told me they would remove my temp crown, make an impression, and in a few days, they would reattach the new one (that they shipped off to be made) --essentially "the opposite of what I sought!" No crown was placed on 1/13. I left under significant duress and with zero trust in this practice. My intent was to find a provider that actually followed through with what they advertised. Still, I returned on January 17, hoping for resolution. This time, they had the materials, and the crown was placed. and billed at the reception desk. I paid in full. However, weeks later, I began receiving weekly text message invoices from their Knightdale office, billing me separately for the 1/13 visit--which had already been frustrating and incomplete. I had never even been to the Knightdale location. and despite the fact that no meaningful service had been delivered during the first visit. Additionally, the crown placed on January 17--while the correct color--was poorly constructed. When the numbing wore off, I discovered that the inner surface (next to my tongue) was rough and "fuzzy," making it very uncomfortable to eat or speak. I contacted the office the following Monday to express my concerns. As a result, the mold of my tooth was sent to an outside lab, and I returned AGAIN on January 31, at which point a properly finished crown was finally applied. What began as a search for a same-day solution turned into a two month-long ordeal. It is my opinion that this office should not advertise same-day crowns, as they are not adequately equipped or consistent in delivering on that promise. The confusion between Brier Creek and Knightdale only worsened. Both offices sent Persistent payment reminders, but neither seemed to fully understand--or take responsibility for--the poor communication for the billing mess. I was treated like a bill to be chased, not a patient with legitimate concerns. I've filed an insurance appeal and submitted multiple letters documenting the events. While I don't normally leave negative reviews, I feel compelled to warn others: Stansell Dentistry's coordination between offices is abysmal, along with their attention to detail. Their handling of patients is dismissive, and they appear to be more focused on squeezing charges out of incomplete visits than delivering what they promote. I can testify that my "same day" crown took 3 visits. read more

I usually have a good experience with Stansell as I've been going there for a few years now. There has always been a revolving door of dentists. I think they've all been gaining more experience before moving on to other places. However, last year, I had two crowns replaced that I was told were covered by insurance. The dentist who performed the work had already done a cleaning and insurance covered that. I paid the several hundred dollars that they estimated insurance wouldn't cover and got the work done. What followed has been going on for almost a year now. First insurance denied the claim and Stansell appealed it several times. At this point, I'm now receiving text bills for over $1200 from Stansell because it turns out the dentist who did the work wasn't in network. I've tried repeatedly over the last three months to follow-up with Stansell and find some resolution to this. Each time, I'm told the office manager will call me back and then they never do. This has now happened with three different office managers. So it now seems like it's not a problem with an individual person and more like a problem with the dentist's office. I even went there in person to speak directly with the office manager after speaking with my insurance and got all the details that Stansell hadn't told me. I've offered resolutions to this situation but it appears that I'm now being ignored. Given this type of customer service, I can't honestly recommend them to others looking for a new dentist. read more

The place was beautiful, all of the staff members were super friendly, and I even saw Dr. Stansell herself! The office ran like a well oiled machine and I am so happy that I finally found a new dentist. This was the best cleaning I have ever had! My bottom teeth were discolored from an in-office whitening at a different dentist office and this cleaning fixed all that! Highly recommend! read more

Dr. Stansell is truly the best. She has taken care of our family's dentistry needs for the past 12 years and is amazing. My daughter has diagnosed anxiety disorder and Dr. Stansell was able to calm her fears when she was little and gain her trust. My son has sensory issues and she and her staff were also able to accommodate his needs. She referred us a couple of times to a pediatric dentist and an oral surgeon for more complicated issues and both referrals were wonderful. My daughter once had trauma to her mouth and Dr. Stansell spoke to us after hours to offer guidance and saw us the next day for an emergency visit. She is kind, knowledgeable, and works really hard. I am so grateful that we found this place. A few tips - if you make an appointment, make sure you confirm by telephone that the appointment went through okay. Also, Dr. Stansell works at both locations so if you want to schedule an appointment specifically with her you may need to drive out to the North Raleigh office if the day she is in Brier Creek doesn't work for you. After booking an appointment with Dr. Yonsefi I arrived on time to only to find out he was "running late" 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. This should have been communicated after their morning staff meeting and before taking my payment for services. Due to my schedule, I left. I was offered a $9 compensation for my wasted time. After leaving this review I rescheduled another appointment and was engaged via phone call by office manager Lauren. She inquired on why I rebooked an appointment if I wasn't satisfied with the service. I have been a client for several years for regular checkups and have always been completely satisfied with all aspects of treatments. I recently lost an old crown and was seen that same afternoon. Dr. Stansell examined me, prepared a treatment plan. I was given an appoint for a couple of days later for the prep and scan for the new crown. Marlene was a huge help at reception assisting me with some phone technology. Deshawn and Tiffany were patient, excellent assistants! It took two more visits for the complete process to conclude. Both Doctors Stansell and Lecann are professionally skilled, explained every step, personable and listened to my desire to be comfortable throughout the procedure. Beautiful office! Friendly staff! Great care! They were efficient but prior to making my appointment I asked if they took my dental insurance. They said they did but at the time of my appointment they said I was "out of network." I wish I knew this. I submitted all my paperwork including insurance details weeks prior to my appointment just to avoid this. I went forward with my dental check up but had to change dentists knowing that I had to have fillings. I was not willing to pay more for services when I could go to an in network dentist. I just want to start off by saying this is my first time writing a review for any business. However I am so appalled by how I have been treated by this office, I had to write a review. I have been going to this office since moving to Raleigh in 2016. At first I was very happy with the service provided for me and my family. Then I noticed phone calls not being returned or never seeing the same dentist or hygienist. I recently needed to have some work done. So I scheduled to start with two crowns that were recommended. After the initial prep work , I went back to have my permanent crowns placed. They could not be placed because the assistant could not remove the temps. The temps would not budge and I was in pain. So I had to reschedule because they needed more time to try to remove them. The second time I was given a injection by Dr. Stansell to help with pain; still could not be removed. I had to reschedule again to come back. In between visits I had a scheduled teeth cleaning. The dentist stated they could drill the temps off at my next appointment. So I arrived for my 3rd visit to take off my temps. No dentist scheduled to drill them off. I had to reschedule for the 4th time. At the 4th visit the dentist took them off only to find out that one tooth was too bad to put a crown on. No X-rays were ever completed to show how bad one tooth was. So he could do nothing for the tooth because he wanted Dr Stansell to look at it. I could not schedule a time with her because she was not available when I could come back. So on my last and final visit to the office, ANOTHER dentist told me my only options were a root canal or to pull the tooth. I am furious at this point. If X-rays would have been completed all of the money spent on a crown could have went to the work needed. I have told the office manager how disappointed I am and want a refund for that tooth. Have called several times and I always get " I will call you back". I called yesterday and the young lady promised a phone call back. Still nothing!!! To say the least I would not recommend this office to anyone. If I could give a zero I would. I don't expect anything for free. I just expect to get what me and my insurance has paid for. A callback from the office manager would be a plus as well. read more

I must say as far as dentists go, the team here is REALLY top of the line. I came in a few weeks ago because I was having tooth pain, and they took x-rays and had them digitally in front of me in about 45 seconds... After a good cleaning and inspection of the gum-line (with some kind of painless measuring device), I was informed that I did have a few cavities and needed to brush and floss more (but come on, who hasn't heard that at every dentist they go to). Anyway I got the fillings scheduled for the following week, and got email reminders, phone call follow ups, and even a cost estimate for the fillings before I left that day... I love that! True medical cost disclosures are always really useful! I went back in yesterday and had a different hygienist (or I guess she might have been a dental assistant), but again still very friendly. I sat down, got numbed with some gel, and had two shots into my gums for anesthetics. The nice part: the shots were next to painless (only slight burning as it entered), but on a scale of 1-10 of pain, it was about a 3. My procedure included drilling out an old filling which again I thought was going to hurt, but just pressure, no real pain (1-10 scale again, about a 4). The other cavities were a walk in the park, I never felt a thing! I walked out with numb lips (which felt very funny), but after 2 hours everything was back to normal! No cold sensitivity, no odd bite pattern where my teeth come together weird, no sharp edges... Just a great overall job, FIVE STARS!!! In the end I would recommend Stansell to anyone in Raleigh and the surrounding areas for their very friendly staff (and I bet the girl at the front desk is reading this, GREAT JOB, and you can tell the team I said that as well), fair pricing and disclosures, comfortable atmosphere and very professional demeanor. It may seem weird but I love going to the dentist for the semi-annual cleaning and check up. Since I have moved around a lot, I have had many different dentists and dental hygienists and it is hard to find a good one. My last dentist was located in Cary and I stayed with them way too long due to convenience, but they were not the best. I finally decided to search for a new dentist last year and found Stansell Dentistry. I am very happy with my new dentist, Dr. Zickgraf, and dental hygienist, Stephanie. Stephanie is the best dental hygienist I have had so far. She is very sweet, always checks in to make sure I'm doing okay, and she is amazing at her job. I love getting my teeth cleaned and she is the best. Dr. Zickgraf has not done any major work on me yet, but I feel comfortable with her and trust her expertise. The entire staff was super friendly and accommodating; they have excellent service. This dentist practice was decorated with some character, as well. They somehow avoided the typical impersonal and sterile atmosphere that prevails in other practices. The waiting room is modern and spacious, with large comfy couches and chairs. The exam rooms are also pretty sweet. You can watch Netflicks or just stare at really nice pictures on the ceiling. read more

I have been coming to Stansell's dentistry for about 9 years and had good experiences in the past but I regret to say that Stansell's dentistry has gone downhill in a number of ways the last couple of years, namely, in successful services in fixing teeth and in showing care by prompt attention to the needs of patients . After receiving my X-rays for a cavity, they said I would have to come back to get them filled. Then business manager told me they would have to do two appointments, one for each cavity as they found two cavities. In total, I have had at least 4 appointments over many weeks and still don't have my cavity filled. This may seem normal to you but I remember the days when X-rays and multiple fillings were all done on initial visit and when dentist didn't try to pack in appointments so closely as to force multiple appointments to get anything done and extra payments for them and more time with painful cavities for us, but I digress. So electing only to do the cavity that was hurting, the filling ended up falling out at the very end of the work from the new dentist working so she had to redo it leaving me unsure if it was done right. I noticed even later that day that there was even more sensitivity now than before and the pain got noticeably worse during the next few weeks as ai hoped the pain would go away but did not. So, I rescheduled requesting that Dr. Stansell do the service this time, as my wife suggested. and I was assured that she would be fixing the filling. Dr. Stansell, took an X-ray and instead of totally redoing the filling she says she doesn't have time to fix it today but can sand the tooth down to help with sensitivity, and if that doesn't work we can schedule to fix it later. Knowing my pain, I knew this was a waste of time but it was either try that or nothing so we did that and it didn't work at all. My pain was getting so bad that I could no longer chew through the pain and have begun to eat and drink on one side of my mouth. I had to wait weeks for the next available appointment that I made sure would be with Dr. Stansell and showed up early for 8:30 am appointment and was then told Dr. Stansell can not do the procedure because it violates company's policy! I was told that only the new dentist could do it, the one who couldn't manage to fill the cavity in two tries, since this is there policy. The more consistently you have these type of outcomes in the visits, the more you know things are not going as they used to with Stansell Dentistry. What is it that growth, max profit, policy, ego perhaps, would take the place of care and humanity? When you tell the staff you are in pain and ask if you can speak to Dr. Stansell and are told no, she doesn't have time, not even 1 minute, even if you are wiling to wait until she does, you know things are not going as they used to. When all these things happen after you decided to receive service at the furthest Stansell Dentistry branch from home because the previous branch did some kind of nerve damage with an injection to your wife that led to months of severe pain, you know things are not going as they used to. I don't know how to explain such consistent bad results lately from them after years of good service but there is not even any attempt to communicate and help me with this problem they know I have. This is their failure to provide service so at least there should be a refund offered me. All I want is to have my cavity filled by someone who is not going to be learning on me and they need to do it but are unwilling to have someone else try to do it. I really hate going to the dentist. Been in situations with dentists who overcharge, who try to 'hide' issues just so they can charge insurance for unnecessary (and painful) services. But Stansell is NOT one of those offices. The folks who work here are all friendly, they give you honest advice, and never suggest procedures that aren't necessary. They're honest here! I moved to NYC for a few years before moving back to Raleigh (couldn't stay away for too long!) and made sure to return to Stansell -- because I truly trust 'em here. read more

Had a really disappointing experience today. Went in for a filling to be filled. Had 8 xrays taken. Then they lost the xray images and tried to tell me that they had to take them over again. I suggested they call tech support and retrieve the xray images rather than irradiate me again. Then another hygienist came in and said that they needed at least one more to check the filling. That one failed as well. Then another hygienist again tried to pressure me into redoing the xrays, which I had to refuse again. Then the original hygienist got the wrong tooth where the filling was when billing the work Dr. Stansell did. I have no confidence in the staff. They seem to be unable to take an xray or bill for work done. Very troubling. read more

Recently established care at Stansell Dentistry as I was in the market for a dentist, and overall I have been pleased with my experience. The office is nicely decorated and very clean, the front desk staff are always nice and great about helping me understand insurance breakdowns, etc. Dr. Adams is great, very knowledgeable, and will not stop polishing her work until she's completely satisfied with it.
