I was considering not going back since my experience was so abysmal. But I contacted the school and informed them of how incredibly disappointed I was in the student for so many reasons. They apologized profusely and offered to assign a different student. I was hesitant, but agreed to a new student assignment. I cannot express how completely happy I am with the new assignment. His name is Landon Guy and he is the epitome of what all current and future dentists should strive for. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind, highly-skilled, creative, not at all condescending. He explains everything he's going to do before he does it. When he makes a suggestion for treatment, he always asks for my input. And he listens to my opinion. And he has a great sense of humor, which is always a bonus! My dental appointment anxiety is just about non-existent due to Landon's expertise. When he graduates, I fully expect to continue as his patient wherever he begins to practice.

Per their policy, I paid a $500 deposit upfront and the remaining balance on the day of the procedure. A few days before Christmas, they began repeatedly calling, emailing, and texting me about a supposed $584 "past due" balance, asking if I had other insurance. Before I even had a chance to respond, they sent a bill. I was then told by their office to call MetLife and ask them to reprocess the claim--something that should never be the patient's responsibility. I did anyway. MetLife confirmed the issue: the dental office had checked the wrong box on the claim, making it appear I had other coverage, which triggered a reversal. I had to explain their own error back to them after being harassed about a balance that was never mine. At no point did the practice acknowledge the mistake or apologize. Instead, the practice manager said she was "frustrated" that I had contacted MetLife--despite their staff directing me to do exactly that--and even claimed MetLife was being dishonest. The incorrect balance still sits on my account with a prompt to pay. They claim they are not actively collecting, but the system will gladly take my money if I choose to pay it. That is unacceptable. Even worse, if this is not resolved, MetLife may deduct this amount from my 2026 benefits--meaning I could lose coverage for care I actually need. I am now overdue for a cleaning and additional dental work, and I no longer feel comfortable returning. The office is aware of this, yet their response has been dismissive at best and hostile at worst. For a practice that advertises itself as the "number one" dentist in Chapel Hill, this experience has been the opposite. Competence, accountability, and basic professionalism matter far more than marketing claims.

I went to Dr. Jelic because he definitely has experience and expertise with surgical procedures. What I didn't know was that he has a strong stance against vaccines. There's a lot to unpack there but that's not the crux of what happened or why I'm upset. Due to his vaccination status, he isn't authorized to work in a hospital and cannot perform double jaw surgery. However- he does not tell you this until as late into the process as possible. This is after you have already invested thousands on the surgical pre-planning. For me, it was also after I had already been in braces for months. His lobby (which, honestly, is very nice and cozy) has jaw surgery pamphlets and his website as of today still features it as an option. They're able to collect quite a bit of money upfront with no intention of actually performing the surgery, then leave you hanging. I do not believe it is an honest way to conduct a business. At the time, I was told instead we can do one jaw at a time (several weeks in between) in his office. We decided to go forwards with this and scheduled to meet in 3 months. On the morning of my scheduled follow up, I got a call saying they would need to do both jaws at the same time and they can't treat me. I asked if there was anyone they could refer me to but they offered no help or sympathy. They did not respond to any emails or calls from me afterwards. I wanted to thank Siri because her review gave me the courage to say something when the rest of their reviews are so positive. I finally finished my braces journey and found out from my orthodontist that I'm not the first person this happened to. He was not aware of Dr. Jelic's inability to operate in a hospital until recently, with the other patient. This is someone he works with and he intentionally kept this information from. The first patient had gone through the entire process required to prepare for jaw surgery, only to be dropped last minute as well. I lost time, money, and peace of mind for months, not being able to get clear answers from his office. I ended up needing to change and redo my entire braces plan.I feel like the situation was extremely unethical and I wanted to put it out there, and hopefully help even at least one person out there who is looking into their options. This review shouldn't impact you much if you're looking to get a more routine procedure, like an extraction. The person that was to remove the temp crown started working on me but it was painful and I didn't know what to expect . This person was tugging at pullng the temp crown off pulled back with the instrument she was using and cut my lip she was not aware she did that until she saw the blood. I didn't have trust in her after that. Treat a patient like a person not a machine. I eventually had a numbing agent . Dr Smith is very clever and I believe he is good at what he does. He finally came along and gave me a perfunctory one liner that could infer I was responsible for this injury. He did what he had to do with the crown and stated he would come back when I had numerous xrays. Dr Smith never came back he must have got too busy.
