I don't believe that I have ever had a bad meal at any restaurant that had the name "Granny" in it. Granny's Kitchen did not disappoint. Located on the SE corner 7th and Main St. in downtown Stillwater, in a nicely remodeled brick building. Inside, the restaurant is smartly decorated in a modern décor mixed with a connection to the past. Between the tee shirts that are for sale, historical pictures and a few artifacts representing rural farm life hang on the walls. In a few areas of the walls, the original brick work is exposed, but masked with a coat of paint. The building's true age shows through the makeup. The chaotic conglomeration of bricks testify that masonry skills and craftsmanship were not required of the builder, when the original structure was erected. Building codes likely not in vogue either. A work of historical beauty. On street parking. And directly behind the restaurant, on the east side, is a parking lot. On a busy weekend parking could be a challenge. Somewhat of a tourist attraction. Souvenirs for the out of towners are prominently on display for purchase. A bar is available to help celebrate yesterday's team victory or numb the pain of defeat. Patio seating is available. Breakfast was perfect. My usual. The picture describes the food. Very good. I had a great experience, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is spotless and good for large parties. I told the server it was my first time, and she recommended a great meal and gave me a cinnamon roll. Warm and sticky. The meals are large; they said they make them large because it's a college town, and they want to give the kids leftovers. The restaurant is in the downtown area, with plenty of parking. Although the restaurant seems to be a chain, the staff and the food were excellent, so give it a shot. I would absolutely come back. read more

The chicken fried steak is deservedly famous. They were closed for remodeling last time I was in Oklahoma so it was nice to check it out. The breakfast portion would have fed two people. So I enjoyed the second part of the steak cold. Which I recommend doing. It's still ridiculously tender and flavorful. It's an interesting vibe inside. You'll see. I can see that this place would be super busy on the weekends, but service was super quick on an average Friday morning. I did not know what to expect. Friends suggested we meet here for lunch. I walked in the entrance off Main and was a bit confused. Was I in a small Cracker Barrel? But once we were seated, things looked up. The menu is quite large with breakfast (any time) and lunch (burgers and sandwiches). There's a few salads and some bigger entrees. I went with the Florentine Benedict. It was fantastic. The onions had just the right amount of brownness and crunch to complement the mushrooms, spinach and poached eggs. We have been here several times before and each time said we will never be back, however we decided to give it one more chance and went to breakfast this morning. I must say they are consistent as the same problems recurred. First and foremost the food was again near room temperature. This has been a consistent finding here. I want breakfast food HOT. I ordered the cowboy breakfast on hashbrowns and it came on fried potatoes. Service was on the slow side, not terrible. When we got the bill , we were amazed at the "suggested" tip which ranged from 20%,25% and 30%. 30% tip, are you kidding me! My girlfriend and I having breakfast here after running the Stilly 5K/half marathon. I really enjoy the crab Benedict. The hash browns were cooked very soft with just the right amount of crunch. My girlfriend ordered biscuits with gravy that had ham and bacon on top. The biscuits were large and pillowy. Service was great. Went in for breakfast today, 2 of us ordered the fruit crepes, beautiful plating, big portions,no where on the menu did it say what they were stuffed with, I would never had thought cream cheese and cottage cheese,if I had known would have never ordered them. The other party didn't like them either. It ruined my breakfast experience. The first turn off was communal seating when not busy, the customer next to us was talking about someone having 2 bowel movements. The manager comped our crepes and offered to cook us some different ones but the damage was done. The service was good but not enough to improve the food experience, it was cold also and some of the menu names are offensive. Heard a lot of complaints today about cold food. I ordered a mimosa that was served in a stemless champagne flute with the granny logo on the glass. I had the breakfast burger with tots. The meat had fantastic flavor. The egg was cooked perfectly with a runny yolk. The grilled ham added a nice salty element. The tots were crispy and seasoned well. My wife had the chicken fried steak sandwich. The steak was ridiculously large, in a good way. The batter was crunchy and the meat was full of flavor. Between three of us we finished half of the sandwich. My daughter had the country eggs Benedict. Biscuits with sausage patties poached eggs and topped with a white country gravy. Some of the food items didn't taste fresh, as if it was previously frozen. Kinda disappointed. Stopped here after passing through and it does have a wait time on the weekends but everyone says it's worth it, average wait time is about 20-35 minutes give or take. After seated which we was in the basement area (pretty kewl) our waitress promptly greeted us to take our beverage order. Wife usual, coffee and me OJ which came in the Granny's Kitchen plastic souvenir cup. Wife had the Cowboy skillet and substituted the home fries for hash browns. Add gravy to this and it's delicious.
