Most people who take the train north or south from the Trenton Transit Center would rather be…read moresomeplace else. Although rebuilt and modernized in the fairly recent past, it is still an unpleasant place to visit even for five minutes. Yet, I was surprised to find Pizza-Grill.com in the back of the station near the exit doors. It actually has a café feel to it, with a few tables and chairs (and umbrellas) for sitting while eating their grub. The food offerings were far more extensive than expected; with sandwiches, wraps, breakfasts and pizza all on the menu, and hours starting from 4 AM to midnight. Friday and Saturday they are full tilt for 24. It's not that the pizza I sampled was great - it was fair, at best. Even after requesting a well done reheat, it was still heavy with cheese than was warmed at its core, but far from hot. The taste was okay, but in this capital city of tomato pie, that is not really good enough. There is so much awesome pizza around these parts that mediocre is just mediocre. So, what it is, is, a pleasant surprise for Trenton train station, but beyond that, not a place atop your "Must Try" list. Nice enough if hungry while waiting for a train. Otherwise, not really worth the trip. ART NOTE - There are some beautiful ceramic tiles placed around the Center (see photos) and a few right next to Pizza-Grill. Really like the work, and would purchase a few of the local scenes if I knew where to find them. In fact, even Pizza Grill has murals painted on the walls of the shop that show talent.

This place absolutely lives up to the hype. I went with the Plain cheesesteak with fried onions and pepper jack cheese on a seeded bun, along with an order of Meatheadz loaded fries. Let me just say, that cheesesteak was a monster. Fresh, perfectly cooked, and swimming in melty cheese--it's easily the best cheesesteak I've had outside of Philly. The portion was so generous I could barely finish it, and for anyone arriving hungry, you definitely won't leave that way. The loaded fries looked fantastic too, but I had to box them up for later (that's how filling the sandwich was). The prices were moderate and fair for what you get, and while the place was busy, the energy felt lively rather than chaotic. Perfection. It was an excellent ttribute to the Original Casino Hot Dog, once named the Official New Jersey Hot Dog. Ray's occupies a prime space in the Farmer's Market.
