Heard about this place since their origins and always wanted to try them out but didn't want to drive all the way down to the Dallas location. With this new Plano location, I finally got to try it. The location is unassuming and the inside is just as much so. This is definitely a mom and pop place so don't expect a lot of fancy stuff but everything was clean. The host was quick to recognize us from the kitchen and since we were eating in, told us to get a sit wherever and they will bring a menu. Overall, they have many of the same offerings as the Dallas location but with it just opening they were out of some things and the soda machine was down. For food we ordered the cat fish, Mac n cheese, gumbo, and chicken fingers. Also got a cup of their kool-aid. The cat fish was the star. It was fresh and flaky, seasoned to perfection, and paired with their tartar sauce, was delicious. Highly recommend. The chicken fingers were good and not any major complaints just standard. Seasoned well and easily enjoyable. The Mac n Cheese was highly disappointing and can't recommend it. Might have been an off day but wasn't my style. The gumbo was good. Just your basic gumbo but you definitely need the hot sauce because it had no heat to it and I like mine a little more on the spicy side. Overall, I definitely recommend checking them out. They have some good offerings and glad to see a soul food style place in Plano. read more

Previously, we had gone to the location on lover's lane. That location is to go only. We wanted to sit down and eat so we went to the Plano location. We were a party of four. We were given one menu and when asked if we could get another menu she said it's one right there. We had to share one menu. When we got ready to order I wanted a big bird....but she said the big bird was now the big cheesy. We went back and forward about the menu. We ordered the big bird thinking it was going to be filled with Mac and cheese. The other person in our party specifically said I want a turkey leg with Mac and cheese. Needlessly to say no one received a turkey leg with Mac and cheese. The big bird was cooked exactly like the menu described. At the time of order it requested the tip. After receiving our order we didn't see the waitress again until we were getting ready to leave. Someone in our party wanted water. The waitress really tried to be pleasant. I could see it was something she was working on. However, she needs to listen to understand. In addition, if she is not sure about menu items or customer request, go ask. Her tip from our party was over $30.00, that was paid at time of order. Even though you've received the tip in advance the restaurant industry operated by reviews and word of mouth. My sister and I had lunch here to celebrate Juneteenth. We thought that we would patronize a black owned business while getting our Soul Food groove on. My food was $42.00 ($35.00 plus tip). I had 2 pieces of fish, 4 wings, onion rings, hush puppies, and Kool-Aid . I read the other reviews, and most said that the fish was good. However, I found it under seasoned and flavorless.  My wings were bbq flavored and nothing to write home about. The onion rings and hush puppies were fair (but frozen I'm sure). My sister had fish, fries, and mac and cheese. There was much more mac than cheese, and my sister agreed that the fish was not seasoned well. Even though we dined in our food was delivered in to-go plates. The service was "to-go" as well. It took me about 10 minutes to get the attention of a waitress just to get eating utensils and napkins. We were well passed finished with our meal before anyone came by again to check on us. Conclusion: The price of my meal did not match the quality of my meal. And my tip was a simply courtesy, which includes the fact that we had to pay for our meals before we received them. read more

The food was good and service was fast and friendly . I had the chicken strips and okra . It was excellent. I normally never eat my left overs I took home as it never tastes as good as fresh . This meal was the exception. Takes good fresh and the next day. Ordering seemed confusing as they have the restaurant set up oddly . It's kind of hard to tell where they take your order . Also the soda machine area smelled like mold. The order was strong , hopefully it was not coming from the soda machine. That could get folks really sick. read more

Stopped to try the catfish and fries... won't be doing that again. So many better options for the price for 3 pieces of catfish.

I ran across Granny's on my Instagram feed and thought their food looked amazing. Living in Frisco there isn't a lot Soul Food restaurants to frequent. I was super excited to find this was only 7 minutes away. My husband and I decided to try it out today and we were very pleased and surprised by the quality and amount of food we received. My husband got the 4 piece fish dinner and I the 2 fish and 4 wing Granny combo. I only got my combo because he's a huge fish fan, I thought the pieces would be small and knew with my fish he would be good. But there was no need for that because he received 4 big fillets. There was a short wait for our food to arrive but that was only because they cook your food once you order it. It came out fresh and hot. We will definitely be returning. My wife and I went to Granny's Sunday afternoon, we were greeted and told to sit anywhere (there was only one other customer in the restaurant). After an extended wait, we got up and got our own menus from the counter and returned to our table with the counter worker expressing surprise. After being ignored for another extended wait and the servers taking a to-go order. We let the wait team know that we were leaving. We are an older calm, patient couple, but at the very high pricing, you expect at least civil treatment. We are cajuns from Louisiana and wanted to support them. But this level of service is not supportable! I guess we will continue getting our catfish at other locations where service will acknowledge and let you know that they are delayed. Walking past the customers repeated while servicing later customers, then returning to their private interemployee conversations is not acceptable while ignoring the customers. We left. read more
