The prices are low or reasonable, and the selection is surprisingly good for a "small town" store (particularly for gardeners and pet owners). However, this Grange most earns 5 stars for their service. Early morning weekdays, from the earnestly happy cashier with tips for extra savings, to the helpful folks at the loading dock, I've always felt very welcome and taken care of when I had questions. I have been going to the grange since 1969. My family had a ranch where Lost Lake is. They raised hell, hay and beef. The salmon they pulled out of the Rogue River, way before the dam, were huge. To make all of this happen there was always weekly trips to the grange. It was the hub of the ranching community. The grange is still with us, different community, but the same quality products and the people who work there are the best!!! read more

My husband and I are not impressed with the service or the quality of the plants that we have purchased for the Grange Co-op. Sometimes on the phone, the employees act like we're bothering them -- and are actually patronizing and rude, sometimes sarcastic, and brush us off. In person at one of the stores it's usually better. An example: I called to ask if I could order some orange California poppy starts. Quite rudely, the young man I was speaking with and for me that I could not add that they had some coming in sometime the next week. I asked if I could give him my name and phone number when they arrived or reserve them. He told me no, that I had to just keep checking back to see if they've come in yet. Incredibly poor customer service and very inefficient. Needless to say, I purchased my orange California poppy starts from a different nursery. The quality of the seeds and the plants that we've purchased from them has been substandard so much so that we don't buy from Grange Co-op anymore. It's just flat out a waste of money in addition to the fact that the overall customer experience is generally unpleasant. read more

I visited this Grange Co-Op location as part of one of my walks while Gayle was hard at work back at the Peerless Hotel. The Grange Co-Op offers a thorough selection of goods for your farm, garden, nursery, pet, and home needs. And like the nearby Ashland Hardware store, this is a great place to consider various home improvement project options. I love the Ashland grange, I've been going there for years and am always blown away by how knowledgeable and friendly the staff are. All the employees seem to be very familiar with all the products and can always point me in the right direction when I have questions. I have bought chicks from there, and the employee thoroughly checked each one to ensure they were healthy as she boxed them up. I have bought plants that I am not that familiar with and the employees were more than happy to go over what kind of soil and how much water, etc. The staff are friendly, easy to talk to, and I'm so happy they are not only wearing masks to promote public safety but have clearly labeled the aisles and checkout lines to make sure social distancing can be practiced. The last time I was in there a staff member assisted me with some houseplant questions, and even let me know when the next shipment of houseplants was coming in just in case I couldn't find the perfect one (I did find the perfect one, the inventory was very impressive.) read more

The Ashland branch is one of several branches in Southern Oregon of the Grange Coop, stores primarily for farmers and ranchers, but also catering to the needs of pet owners and gardeners. This store, unlike the other, larger branches in the area, has almost no clothing but concentrates on the needs of farmers, pet owners and gardeners. The prices are reasonable and the staff is helpful. All the stores feature bird food and feeders but in the Ashland branch, nearly all the bird feeders are designed to keep squirrels from eating the seeds. Apparently there are lots of squirrels in the town and the people don't want to feed them, just the birds; one of the few instances of intolerance in this otherwise very tolerant community. read more

I am not very knowledgeable of plants or bushes that thrive in this environment. The girl that helped us was very rude and mocked us on the walkie-talkie with her colleagues. I asked about butterfly bushes and she said butterflies are in Mexico right now so of course we don't have any. Then we asked about some other colorful bush or tree and she asked what exactly were we looking for. I said a colorful bush or tree have any suggestions? We found a tree by ourselves and she told us to carry it inside ourselves..would not recommend them read more

It's as close to one can get to a rural feed store in what is essentially a suburb. Good selection of soils and amendments, and they will load it in your vehicle for you. Plants, tools, and farming/gardening clothes, plus a bunch of pet foods and supplies. read more

i have been shopping at the grange for 35 years. i am ending my relationship with them due to the fact that i find every employee i deal with to be rude. the grange has many of the things i need to care for my pets and garden, but the way i am treated every time i go there has become intolerable. i have not had the luxury of being asked if i need help out with my heavy items while three employees are watching me struggle out to my car. i stopped an employee to ask a question and he responded by rudely telling me he was on lunch. when i was paying for my items and i swiped my credit card, the card reader said "error" as they sometimes do. the woman behind the counter said to me, "you need to take off your sunglasses." i guess sniping at the customers is just a pastime for her. i can't count the thousands of dollars i have spent there and i have enjoyed the convenience of the grange for so long, it's too bad the people that work there can't muster up common courtesy for their customers. thanks grange, it's been an ok run while it lasted but you won't be abusing me anymore. read more

great place! definitely get the small town service the bigger stores are lacking... I went looking for a new food to switch my dogs to, and one of their employees patiently walked me through all of the pros and cons of the 4 different foods that I was considering, and then loaded my selection into my car for me.... will return here for all my pet and gardening needs. read more
