Overcharge for the product and service received. They charge exorbitant delivery and even add a credit card service fee on top of high prices. Please shop around and consider other options. I purchased 20 yards of gravel for my driveway delivered within 5 min of their location. The rock was not as describe. driver was unable to spread any rock, so ended up with a large pile that we needed to move around. Total price was over $917. When asked for details about charges or if any discounts things felt unfriendly and off putting. read more

My wife wrote a letter to Mr. Hilton, and because his employee said we needed two rolls of $400 ground cover mat, he would refund the second roll. If we mistakenly bought two rolls of matting, we would have been stuck with the second roll because ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Sure, Hilton is making money with no returns/refunds, but this is shortsided business practice. As a small business corporation owner for 22 years, I bent over backwards to make my customers happy even when it cost me time and money, which paid off with repeat business. As I told the lady who refunded the $400, I was very unhappy with Hilton's ALL SALES FINAL policy. Her response was, "Remember when you come back, ALL SALES ARE FINAL", to which I replied, "I WILL NEVER BE BACK". Hilton, you aren't the only game in town. Adios. read more

Just had a delivery made and it was an absolute nightmare. I ordered 6 tons of 6"-10" granite for rip rap. I was told by Chris the dispatch manager that some pieces might be slightly larger or smaller, because someone would be eyeballing the size before loading them on the truck. I told him that was fine, 12" or even larger would be fine, but about basketball size at the largest. When the driver arrived he asked me to look at the load because some of the rock was slightly larger. I was shocked. some of the rocks were boulders, over two feet in diameter, enormous. I planned on moving all the of rock by hand, and it is not feasible to move rock of this size. I asked him to call back the manager and see what the options were. The manager told him that there were no options, either I take the rock or not. At this point I climbed to the top of the truck to try to get a better idea of how much of the rock was the right size, it was incredibly difficult to gauge from the truckload what was underneath and throughout the pile. I asked him to call the manager back so I could speak to him. I was connected again to Chris, and he was most unhelpful. He said that he warned me that the size wouldn't be exact, and that he assured me that he wouldn't ship me out another load just to see if "if I liked it or not." To either pay for it, or send it back for a refund. I told him it wasn't about whether I liked it or not, it was about being delivered what I paid for. He said he didn't have time for it, and that I either take it or leave it. I asked if he could offer a discount to account for the inaccuracy of the order, and he said no, that if i take the order, I pay for it. I have no problem paying for what I ask for, but he offered no option to make it right, no second order, no remorse, nothing, made it sound as if it were my fault for not liking what they brought me. I am attaching the pictures of the load after I separated out what I could lift on my own. I estimate over half of the order is not what I paid for. I understand the difficulties that sorting rocks might be, but DON'T say you can deliver something, and then not do it. And not offer to make it right. I am thoroughly unsatisfied with this order, and after sorting it, I know I will have to pay someone to move this rock away, and pay for more rock to actually finish the project since there was nowhere near enough rock size in the actual order to do the project. Very disappointed with Hilton's and their customer service and the way they do business. I'm not saying that all experiences will be similar, but just letting folks know that they were absolutely terrible on this occasion. read more

I was at Hilton the other day when an employee came up to me and asked, "Can I help you find something?" Later I tracked down a manager, Chris, to tell him how encouraging it was to see the place spiffed up. I've been visiting Hilton once a year for many years and have watched it improve quite a bit. It used to be a mess: the office people laboring in a crummy old mobile home, dust everywhere (really hard to contain, I know, but it looked like they weren't trying), no visible salespeople in the yard, etc. Today it's a lot different: much more pleasant place to shop. They have a nice office building (but where are the public restrooms?), and - miracle of miracles - available, helpful yard persons. They have some good signage and some of the items are marked for price and such. If I ran the zoo, I'd figure out some way to do a lot better in terms of marking stuff: what is that rock? do I have to buy the whole pallet? how much a pound? etc. I can imagine it's hard in an outdoor setting like that, with very heavy material, but commercial nurseries do it so Hilton could too. It's frustrating not knowing what you're looking at, how it's sold, and how it compares to the other materials price-wise. Anyway, keep up the good work in making it a nicer place to look around and buy landscaping materials. read more

***Update*** Nov 4, 2020 Received a call from Mike at Hilton and was given some options on how to organically treat the soil, however I have already removed it and disposed of it in a way not to spread any weeds. Mike offered to refund the cost of the 10 yards we received and later had to remove. I do appreciate that. He assured me this was an anomaly having Jimsonweed in their soil. Was hoping not to have to post this review, but the invasive, deadly weeds that were included in my 10 yards of Chet's mix was unacceptable. I had Jimsonweed growing out of my raised beds (brand new, this was the first soil placed inside) and also growing directly out of the pile of dirt that was delivered. I reached out to Hilton and received an email back from Mike Taylor. I responded twice to his email and have never heard a response. I have free range chickens and sell my eggs as organic. I had to spray a Round up/Crossbow mix on the areas that were in the yard and though the area was fenced off with snow fence, I cannot market my eggs as organic. Jimsonweed is extremely deadly to animals...including my chickens and dogs. I also had to remove the Chet's mix from my raised beds as I will not use chemicals in my vegetable garden. I reached out to Hilton to find a solution to the problem. I did not ask for my money back, rather I asked for solutions. I have not heard back from Hilton since September 16th despite multiple attempts of contacting Mike. (Today is November 2nd.) I gave them every opportunity to make it right. I withheld writing a negative review truly in hoping that the issue would be resolved. read more

I really like this place and the products they carry and the ease of getting landscape supplies. They could gain another star or two by ensuring all their employees (counter lady, especially) are friendly and helpful. The sad part really is that all the other guys I've dealt with are at least basically friendly and helpful. But this one person in particular has caused me to question driving all the way out there and spending anymore money when the same supplies are closer to home. One saving grace is that you can drop off yard waste and pick up bark, rock or soil all in the same trip. That's a convenience I really dig. read more

This is my first review ever....but I want to worn others about Chets mix garden soil....it's crap. I put 10 yards in some raised beds, I asked tons of questions as to amendments..... Plenty of weeds growing, and the whole garden needs soil removed and thrown somewhere you don't want anything to grow. I am on my 3 planting and dug out and filled the holes with better soil and it may produce something now.... I have amended with lime, fish, Eason salts, miracle grow, well composed steer manure.....plants not in this mix look great, but just turn yellow in Chets mix. The business is great, service is awesome, bark deliveries have been above expectations.....but Chet mix must be made of ground up trash. Not sure why it says I am in San Francisco......I an not a Californian. read more

First let me say the product is great. Also, the guys who drive the loaders are always cool. The customer service here is sub par. The folks inside who run the counter are condescending and lack luster. We are in the midst of landscaping an entire .25 acre backyard and have spent a good amount of our hard earned money here. 5 trips to be exact. Each time we go in to pay, yep..pure like the driven snow we are met with crap, sarcasm and unfriendly service. Do not seek advice from the staff, you will talked down on. Mixed bag. We ordered 5 cu yds of mulch. First date for delivery their truck broke down, so rescheduled (they seem to rent their trucks for delivery, so it's a small operation). I wouldn't call them horrible, they get behind like everyone else, and did show up with our mulch. Problem is, there is a $110 delivery fee, and to be honest you can go and buy bags of mulch for much cheaper overall than buying it "bulk" from them. Hate all the plastic, but will go ahead and just do mulch in bags from now on. :) read more

First off I want to state the good parts of this company. They are basically the one spot in town where you can buy extremely large quantities of landscape supplies. They have a really cool looking building with most of the products set out in samples for you to check out and prices easily available. They have a pretty darn good delivery service that seems to be always working as I see a Hilton's truck at least twice a day pass my farm. Now for the bad and ugly... the people who work here are mostly ok, but the management and one or two of the workers are flat out rude and uncaring about the situations of their clients. I spend 5-7k dollars a year at this store (not anymore), and I thought because I was spending what I thought to be a large amount of money that I would be treated with respect when I have an issue. I was very wrong. I purchased about 5 yards of the "seedling and clone" soil. I run a small greenhouse, and during the spring we do seedlings for the hemp industry. We had multiple strains of seedlings planted into the seedlings mix with no additives other than pure water. The seedlings almost all sprouted, all looked good for about the first 10 days, then leaves yellowed and they had no growth for the next 20 days. Meanwhile the other soil we bought from the hydro store had 1ft plants. The only difference was the soil. About as simple as an experiment gets. Your soil killed my plants ... all 15 thousand of them. At one dollar a seed, and the clients paying up to another dollar for my services, I lost nearly 30 grand because this company sells soil that is labeled for seedlings and clones yet it doesn't grow the seedlings or clones for more than 10 days successfully. I asked the guy at Hilton's and he told me it has no nutrients in it, which is odd because it costs 2x as much as the soil that is the regular stuff they sell. I thought at least they would give me my 400 measly dollars back for the garbage soil they sold me, but nope.. You are an extremely poor business that only thrives because nobody has set up competition to you. You lose customers because of pure ineptitude and a lack of caring about your clientele success. But wait... it gets worse... I later hear that this company owns over 1,000 acres of hemp in Oregon. So essentially they are my competitors. No wonder they sell all the other hemp farmers bad soil . read more

A few months ago, I was in the process of sprucing up my driveway and needed 10 yards of 3/4 minus. The fellow who delivered it had a problem with a low-hanging electrical cord and dumped the whole load in about a 20-foot wedge which also blocked the gate to the driveway so I couldn't move my car. The driver was very embarrassed and unhappy about the job but couldn't do much with only the truck. I called Mike at Hilton and he got right on it. Oh boy did he! Later that day he arranged to have the original driver return with a bobcat and the fellow did an outstanding job scooping up the rocks and gently spreading them perfectly around my driveway. Couldn't have done it better! Goes to show.....shop local. Wonderful people to do all that. Thank you so much once again! read more

I am so glad I found this place! Super friendly, helpful staff and prices are fantastic. They have all kinds of landscaping stuff: all types of rock, gravel, river rock, bark, and slabs of all kinds of beautiful rock for paths and landscaping. I got 10 buckets of various sizes of gravel and some beautiful mossy granite rocks for making a pond and waterfall...and a smaller little water feature by my front door. They will deliver, but I just took a bunch of 5 gal buckets to fill. I'm sometimes a little intimidated about going to construction-type places because I just look like an old lady, but I cannot agree with the problems people had with the lady at the counter. Maybe they have new staff. She was very helpful and nice. She even helped lug my big rocks to the scale to weigh and gave me a little slack on the weight. Another couple of guys kept coming by to see if I needed help and they were awesome helping me fill my buckets and load them into my car. Now I just have to come up with a couple more projects that will use some of the gorgeous rock slabs I fell in love with. They even have columnar basalt! How awesome would that be for a big waterfall feature?!! read more

i would give two different ratings. for materials as pavers, landscape rock, barks, and composts i say an absolute five stars. however, do not buy their one gallon plant material they sell as this is a one star situation. i bought 6 or 7 'Emerald and Gold' euonymus shrubs(this i had to guess as the labels just said 'euonymus' on blue handwritten tags) and two promptly died despite excellent care in my garden. no one could tell me where these came from, though they were still selling them. (this particular type of shrub could very well be weevil infested and breaking oregon agricultural laws). one only had a 3 inch deep root system, in a gallon can. i asked about their plant return policy "we don't have any. you just take your chances" was their flippant response. no returns, no credit. not even a "oh, we are sorry, tell me more" this is not a garden center and should not be selling plant material unless they can stand behind the quality. that said, they have excellent compost at a great price. read more
