    Bird's eye view

Loam + Black is the cutest store to get sucked into. Believe me, I get sucked in every time! My boyfriend has bought several plants including a crocodile fern, an air plant and a very large cactus. Each time we're there we notice something new. I really like the thought put into offering sustainable products. They also have an option to purchase a container and refill it with their liquid soaps. Don't forget to check out the upstairs area to get a birds eye view!

This is one of the best stores in Southern Oregon. Thoughtfully curated home goods along with the best selection of indoor plants and planters. (They have been so helpful with all my plant questions too). The inventory is unique, take your time when browsing. I love how the products are displayed. I always find the perfect thing, whether it's a gift for me or a friend. Seriously check this place out, you won't be sorry.

Very small place with kitchen behind storefront and one young girl working counter. She was very quiet and courteous but didn't offer much in the way of any other information. I was only buying for myself and purchased all dark chocolate (62%) caramel chews with smoked sea salt top. The caramel was very thick and very chewy. My daughter said it was definetly a workout for her jaw! 2 different types of toffee squares, these were okay but nothing spectacular, to me the toffee was a bit off in flavor. I got 2 Almond clusters and the almonds were rancid (now that really threw me...what do you do when you have the taste of rancid nuts in your mouth, ugh! Those 7 chocolates were almost $25 of wasted money but by the time I figured that out we were already out of Oregon and into California or I would have gone back for a refund! I should have just gone to See's Candies in Medford! I was raised on See's and at least they are always consistent and they have great quality control.

We showed up at 5 and were greeted by the same fabulous woman as last time. You just know that someone that kind and welcoming would not own a place she wasn't rightfully proud of. She sets the tone and all the employees carry it through the entire meal. We chose to try the patio tonight and it was cozy yet open, darker with a couple of fire lights around the room. Intimate. Some of the tables are separated by live plants in planter boxes. We loved it. We started with the beets (with shaved fennel pieces and a citrus vinaigrette with a tahini yogurt sauce on the bottom) and burrata (with grilled pieces of bread and sugar snap peas and capers) appetizers - both were delicious. Randy wanted to try another of their off menu drinks. We can't remember what this drink is called but it's not on the menu and has some Mai tai mix and orange bitters ... like a mock Mai tai spritzer. Delicious - Randy had two! I got the mushroom bolognese - so good. It's home made (!) bucatini pasta with a mushroom (cremini, oyster and shiitake) and san Marzano tomato sauce with burrata on top. I love mushrooms but Randy does not and he loved this dish. The mushrooms taste meaty. Randy ordered the Carbonara again and it was also delicious. We also got an order of garlic bread this time and wow. We each have half of our dinners left, lucky us. We shared the creme brûlée which came with a lavender short bread cookie. Perfect. Everything was perfect. The place was packed and all employees were calm and efficient and friendly. Can't wait to go back!

The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.
