I visited this store when exploring downtown Ashland, OR. They sell a lot of cute stuff. I'm so glad I decided to walk in. The staff is also very nice and friendly. The guy was spending like 10-mins just explaining details about jewelry they sell to a customer who did not want to buy anything just for fun! The lady behind the counter who helped me was super friendly and nice. And she wrapped what I bought with a lot of care. I wish I lived in Ashland and could visit them more often. I bought a few of their beautiful leather bookmarks for myself, but they're going so fast because everyone loves them and wants one! I wish they had things they sell in their store on their website too, so I could order more bookmarks, but sadly that's not the case. read more

This store has a big Wow factor when you walk in. A very elegant, tres chic, French-style boutique with new and vintage items. Ashland tends towards the artsy and funky, so this place really stands out as a high-end general store. They have a small assortment of fine wares in several areas: glassware, jewelry, baby items, cosmetics, books and my personal favorite, bon-bons. At every stop I would ooh and aah over something. When I was looking in the children's section they managed to have some of my all time favorites (Ferdinand the Bull and several from the Emberley drawing series). She's right in that when something feels good in the hand, my sometimes non-linear logic convinces me I really need this item for this or that. The Prize Items are well displayed and walking around and discovering them all is half the fun. However, before my logic fully kicked in, Gayle called to remind me that I was late at our designated meeting time. When walking down Main Street in Ashland few shops catch one's eye and Prize is one of them. The style is delicate, whimsical, and countryside French. I love to peruse the vintage children's books, imported chocolates, and small music collection. My secret love for office supplies makes the unique writing utensils and notebooks an occasional splurge, but I mostly window shop. A majority of the knick-knacks in the shop can be purchased at a much lower price from other similar stores or online, but the finer elements such as furniture, clothes, jewelry, and antiques are worth stopping to take a look at. read more

This is one of the most beautifully-appointed stores I have ever been in. I had a hard time leaving, I just wanted to live there! They have a variety of books, cards, trinkets, food items and other home decorating items that will just make your life more colorful and fun. The selection of items ranges from rare, first edition books and prints, to children's toys and blankets, to perfumes, makeup and other adult-oriented decorating things. The owner is super friendly and hip. The prices are fair, and you feel like you can pick up a few things that will brighten up your home, for a good price. If anything, just go and admire the store! A very lovely boutique. I go there mostly for inspiration, but occassionally splurge on a small item or two. They charge a bit much for posters, maps, flashcards and other paper products. I easily found their "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters on Etsy for less than half of what they're going for at Prize, and that seems to be the case with a number of their products. However, I wouldn't have been exposed to these adorable posters if I hadn't seen them at Prize in the first place. Keep an eye out for downtown Ashland's sidewalk sales. I love this place. I first discovered Prize in 2005, and make a point to return whenever I'm in Ashland. It's a visual treat I look forward to! Prize is a store I find difficult to describe. It is a pretty large space, made to feel all the larger by artfully arranged items, and a wonderful sense of airiness and space throughout the store. I always feel like I'm on a bit of a treasure hunt when I go in to Prize, because their delightful inventory changes all the time. They feature carefully chosen hip new items, plus some special vintage items. The owner and her mother could not be more charming. It's simply a treat to go there. This is a good place to go if you want to buy something that looks expensive! Ha. But really, I have bought a few gifts there recently, and while they are a (in my opinion) overpriced, their presentation is nice and they do a good job gift wrapping. However, last time I was there I was looking for some pretty specific gift items and neither of the ladies working there talked to me until i paid, even though I was the only customer there! This store is cute, it reminds me of a victorian trinket shop, but you can literally walk to 3 or 4 other local (i.e non chain) stores in the downtown area and buy the same merchandise for less, like their nail polish, CD's, stuffed animals and gift items. What gives? Do they think their customers are stupid? They do a great job creating a chic environment, they have some really unusual vintage/antiquey items and the atmosphere is light and bright but I wish their pricing wasn't so off-base. Their staff is friendly and helpful, but I have a hard time buying anything because I assume if they overcharge on some things, they overcharge on everything! Also, they don't take returns, which is difficult, because the thing I've bought there have been gifts for people, and thats a lot of pressure!
