What a wonderful experience down memory lane. They don't have Grandy's in Florida anymore.... It's been decades... when I was a child, this was the place to go for Southern food with grandma. I ordered the chicken fried chicken that is like the country fried steak with gravy but it's chicken. It was very good. I ordered okra, mashed potatoes and also a side of black eyed peas. Wow.... I love love love the black eyed peas. They have ham in them and the flavor is definitely southern... delicious!!!!!! And the dessert.... The peach cobbler... SWEET is what my mother in law said ... super sweet for her... it's good too. If this place was back in Florida... I would be I here frequently... at least it's a nice drive from Central Florida to Brunswick, Georgia. The restaurant is clean and has country decorations. Plenty of room for the family and friends. It's been a lot of years since I was here but the menu has not changed much. I got the 3 piece tenders with collards and black eyed peas. All of it was hot and delicious. The young lady in charge of the dining room was so pleasant and had a kind word and a smile for everyone. The tables were clean and the atmosphere was country with great plaques on the wall. I really wanted to love this place because friends recommended it. We ordered the biscuits and gravy that they love, and pancakes with bacon. The biscuits were very good but the gravy just tasted like flour and black pepper. The pancakes aren't the worst we've ever had, but they're not great. They do give you a large serving of bacon, but it was undercooked--our fault for not asking for crispy. The syrup is Smuckers, which is kind of standard, but I was wishing they had maple syrup to make the mediocre pancakes better. They only serve whipped butter substitute, which cheaper than butter, and not what I look for in a good restaurant. They do serve half and half instead of "creamer," so they get points for that. The coffee is decent, but a little weak. We got the cinnamon rolls to go, and were disappointed in the flavor. All in all, this isn't a breakfast we're going to repeat. read more

Customer service was stellar as always - but I was greatly underwhelmed by the chicken fried chicken (gravy on the side). I picked it up for my friend's mother and it looked like a chicken breast fillet from the grocery freezer section. It was that same filet they started using for their chicken sandwich. No sign of the crispy, craggy signature Grandy's hand breading. I was excited to see the new snack box offering - 1 piece of chicken or 1 order of nuggets with 1 side and a yeast roll. I ordered nuggets - omit the roll. My snack box was odd. They gave me lots of teeny tiny broken off ends so the batter-to-potato ratio wasn't there. Some of the nuggets were also just tiny fragments of fried batter. If you're getting the snack box, stick with individual chicken piece and coleslaw, peas or beans. I can't comment on cleanliness of interior because I visited the drive thru. There were about 17 cars ahead of me (they have a double drive thru), but the crew was very efficient and the wait time was minimal. Unsure of when they did their updates to the building, because it's been so long since I've been here. However the restaurant looks amazing!! Gone are the old green lamps! The new look is crisp and very beachy! The employees are all so friendly and helpful! I drive over 200 miles just to come here. We solely stopped here based on the long line through the drive-thru every morning! Their to-go breakfast is super affordable and quite good. My favorite item is the breakfast steak. The eggs were cooked well, but do need salt/pepper added for flavor. We never dined in as we had our dog with us, but enjoyed to-go breakfast several times. One person in the party asked for fresh fries and the cashier brought her out new fries and made a disrespectful comment. Once again I find myself having to review a kitchen I really like, they make the best chicken in the area, but on 4/16/24 we decided to try their catfish dinner. One was perfect, the other not so good, did not get what I ordered... one coleslaw and potato salad, it was hot and good, other coleslaw and fried okra, no okra, terrible fries, limp and no flavor, I hate fries, never order them ever... I watched the fellow that put together my order, he made one dinner, and it sat for 5 minutes waiting for the other fish to be cooked, so I received one meal hot fish the other just warm, how can an establishment do that... my dinner sat, boxed on the prep counter while the other was completed, one hot meal, the other just warm... I guess now I might have to watch more closely to how they put together my meal... 26.93 for a warm dinner and one hot!!! We are frequent eaters at Grandy's at this location. The last time we visited I requested mash potatoes and gravy but added that I would like extra gravy so that I had the same amount of gravy as mash potatoes. My mother had just gotten out of the hospital and needed it to be more liquid like. It wasn't a problem getting it the day before. After paying I looked at the receipt and it read mash potatoes/no gravy and a large gravy. The cost was $9 for this. I asked Anthony why he rang it up that way and he was very condescending, repeating over and over exactly what I said, that I wanted my gravy the same size as the potatoes and that they certainly sell the large size of gravy for $2.99. I reminded him that I ordered mash potatoes with extra gravy so why would you put in that I wanted mash potatoes with no gravy and then order a large gravy. He said if I didn't want the gravy that came with the mash potatoes it doesn't change the cost. It was very disappointing. There was never any inclination to allow for a misunderstanding on his part or mine and he was more argumentative than customer service minded. Seeing that I was getting now where, I told him I had paid for the mash potatoes with gravy so just give me the small one too. We definitely didn't need that much though. At this point, it was the principal of how he did it all. He put napkins in the bag and sent me on my way. I asked if the one piece of fish I ordered was in the bag and he realized he had not given it to me. It came in a box so I asked what all that was since I just ordered a piece of fish. He said it comes with hushpuppy and grits. Not sure if they don't sell just a piece of fish or not so I just took it. As we were walking out of the restaurant, he was repeating to the entire crew what I had said and how wrong I was. Very embarrassing. I would not return. As time passes, it is a wonderful thing to watch a business build on its heritage and delight its patrons as it listens to their input and becomes a local business of excellence, predictably satisfying. How sad it is when a restaurant that was a local institution begins drifting away from its customers' expectations. I first discovered Grandy's decades ago on a visit to my Dad's family's hometown, Brunswick. I was delighted with the local food at such a reasonable price. Georgia grown, Georgia harvested wild shrimp were delectable in all their iterations. Breakfast was a friendly gathering of people beginning their days with a cuppa Joe, fried eggs, creamy grits, hot yeasty biscuits, creamy hearty sausage gravy, flavorful not oversalted and overcooked tender country ham. The traditions are gone. Eggs only available scrambled and dry. "Hash brown" potatoes suspiciously resemble Arby's potato cakes. Biscuits are generic. No country ham. Sad, oh so sad. I tried their catfish for the first time and it was absolutely awesome but I'm super disappointed because I asked for rolls and I did not get any. I called in but they said that they didn't realize I wanted some. I don't know how you mistake that, since I verbally spoke of yeast rolls and needing butter for my rolls but, oh well, it is what it is... Grandy's used to be my go to breakfast place on Sundays and I loved to get lunches and dinners there periodically. Ever since they've opened the new building, they have quit doing their Sunday breakfast buffet. So, no more Sundays for me. Now, they've increased their prices to a point where their food IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE THEY'RE CHARGING. I actually felt ripped off the last time I got food, it was so overpriced. We purposely stopped Brunswick, just so we could visit Grandy's. Our visit met and exceeded our expectations. We lived in the Dallas area years ago, and enjoyed stopping in for both dinner and Sinnamon rolls. We stopped for dinner last night, and the food was quick, and delicious. Of course, we HAD to stop this am for coffee and Sinnamon rolls. The coffee was fresh and hot, and the rolls were just as delicious as we remembered. Also a shout out to the staff.
