It looks like a cute pink house from the outside, very inviting. My granddaughter and I were most anxious to stop in for some ice cream after dinner. Some of the fun of taking my granddaughter for ice cream disappeared when we hit a few obstacles inside. The first was no samples, which she wanted. They have signs all along the plexiglass ice cream wall stating no samples. The second obstacle was you pay before you order. You decide what size ice cream you want and pay the cashier, who gives you a poker chip to present to an ice cream scooper behind the plexiglass wall. I found having that procedure explained to me when I just tried to order an ice cream annoying. The third obstacle was dealing through the plexiglass wall. Me and the ice cream scooper ended up not on friendly terms. My scoop of Grandma's Caramel Machiano was very good and my granddaughter enjoyed her waffle cone of something. It is just a shame the shop has to be so restrictive so no one gets a taste or walks out with a scoop for free. read more

I read the reviews for this place and I don't know what everyone is talking about. My wife and I had the best experience here. The shopkeepers are warm and welcoming. Just a warning, they might be low key witches. They claim that their sorbet's are dairy free, but I swear they are so creamy that they could be mistaken for ice cream. A delightful treat for those of us who can't have dairy. Overall, highly recommended. If you're in Jasper AB, stop by Grandmas, you won't be disappointed. read more

My wife and I went into this ice cream store and immediately were confronted by employee after asking a simple question. He started yelling at us for asking about ingredients in their homemade ice cream. Then out of the blue another young employee that worked there grabbed me from behind and drag me outside and threw me on the ground over a low brick wall. I am 67 years old and he was about 20 years. NEGATIVE STARS -1000!! Absolutely STAY AWAY from this place. Our group was antagonized by the owner from the OUTSIDE of the store. He was harassing our group with elderly and small children. He was a large Asian man who went out of the store to chase after us only for standing in front of the store while we were waiting for our large group to decide what to order. Apparently you cannot take pictures when you're outside in a tourist location either! Such a cute family owned and operated place. The family members all have pins on their hats designating their relation to the titular Grandma. The only downside is that they don't give samples of their flavors but seeing the they have over 60 flavors, I understand that it would be too time-consuming to give several samples to each customer. Such a treat! We stopped in on labour day weekend for a cone and braced ourselves after reading some of the reviews on here. But it was such a treat! So many unique flavours to choose from (no samples- which is fine) both of our choices were delicious. They had both by brand ice cream and homemade ice cream to choose from and the staff were absolutely pleasant. Definitely recommend stopping by for a yummy ice cream cone! read more

Well, first of all, I won't be reviewing the ice cream as is the case with most of these places the ice cream is either Nestle or Chapman's. The service however, and their archaic ordering system is the worst I've seen by far in any ice cream establishment. To get started, the man behind the ice cream counter looked annoyed that we even walked in and when my wife asked went to place her order we were told to turn around and place our order with the man at the cash register. Weird, but fine. Upon placing our order; both of us wanted 2 scoops each in a bowl, my wife received 2 poker chips each labelled with a #1 and I received 1 poker chip labelled #2. Ok? I was confused as to why we got different denomination chips for the same order, ignoring the fact that this system seems completely unnecessary but fine.. I'll play along. So we turn around to hand our poker chips to the man behind the counter who takes our flavour orders and then also seems confused. When he explains to the man behind the counter that he got our order wrong, that's where shit hit the fan... So apparently, 2 single chips is for 1 scoop in 2 separate bowls while one chip with the number 2 is for 2 scoops in a single bowl. All I want is freakin ice cream, not a flop, turn, and river. (poker reference for you non-poker players) When I voiced my displeasure with this idiotic system he dropped the ice cream scoop, a la drop-the-mic style, and aggressively advised that if I wasn't happy to just turn around, get a refund, and get out. The ice cream was delicious but do yourself a favour and get it at literally ANY other ice cream store. read more

This ice cream shop sits off the Main Street in Jasper town. You have to order at the register first, they give you a token then you can go pick out your ice cream. There are a lot of flavors and was disappointed that we couldn't sample any before purchasing. We still bought some cause it was a hot afternoon and we were craving lol. The candy selection is lower than usual for a candy store these days but has all the basics. Ice cream and frozen yogurt selection is good. Seating is on benches covered by teddy bears and there is a chalk board for the kids to draw on. It might sound cheesy but it is totally unpretentious. after dinner, i'm always up for ice cream so we stopped by grandma's. from the outside, it is so, so adorable, all done up in pink with a cute bench out front. it's not AS cute on the inside, but it's still nice. the ice cream selection is pretty decent although all the ice cream is from other brands like nestle and chapman. the prices are kind of high ($4.75 for a single scoop waffle cone) considering they don't even make their own ice cream. (it's basically the same price as marble slab, which gives a bigger single scoop and is higher quality.) nonetheless, it's ice cream, one of the world's greatest treasures. the way it's scooped, if you lick too hard, your ice cream may fall off the cone. the waffle cone is tasty but whiter than it is brown. but again, it's ice cream! i'm always down for ice cream and this place delivers what it promises. read more

The next day (Saturday), I got a craving after a wonderful dinner and caved in and decided to go get some nestle branded ice cream -- I walk in very excited and immediately see signs that there are no sampling. I turn to one of the employees and asked why they don't sample flavors (I mean seriously, how am I suppose to know what rainbow taste like?) and the manager came up to me, as if he's never been asked this question before with a look as if someone just threatened his staff, and told me I can leave. What? Whoa, did someone not get the memo on executing good customer service and being friendly? I've never been kicked out of an ice cream store in general but especially for asking to sample a flavor -- but hey! Grandmas in Jasper is a first. So if you don't want a bad, cheesy ambiance, store bought ice cream and seriously disgusting service than don't go to grandmas. My three kids each got 2 scoops of ice cream here, which tasted great. However, the lady in the cashier which seems to be the owner was really rude. My wife was helping my daughter with the two large scoops of ice cream with a spoon, but ice cream was melting and tilting to the side, so my wife asked the lady for a small plastic cup/bowl for the ice cream, the lady made a snarky comment "You're spooning it away, that's why the ice cream is tilting". This place is run by some cheap, money-hungry people. They don't offer samples so if you don't know how a certain flavor tastes (like "Superman" or another crazy one) you have to commit to a full scoop. The guy behind the counter was extremely arrogant too. I was visiting from the US and we call "cake" cones wafer cones there - though apparently wafer is synonymous with waffle in Canada. When I said to the guy "oh no, I wanted wafer" he gave me an attitude and the older woman came out of nowhere yelling across the room "that is a wafer cone!" Once I realized the misunderstanding, the guy said "well now you know". I guess the customer's always wrong here. Not so sure this reminds me of my grandma's. Unfortunately this review isn't about their ice cream as we never got a chance to try it. We were in line with no one behind us and one person in front who seems to know the staff there and they struck up a lengthy conversation which is fine but we decided to move up and browse to see what flavor options there are. After 5 mins and done ordering many cones, we would have been next but the staff decided to skip us and took the next person behind us. We just thought "ok, no problem, we'll just wait on nx one". There were more people on line now and the same staff proceeded to take the next person's order instead of ours even when the customer offered that he takes ours first since we told them that we were on line but had moved up front to see what the flavors were. Came here about a week ago, thinking it's a cute little Asian family owned store cause it's named grandmas place and because jasper was very limited of their ice cream parlors. Thinking it was homemade ice cream along with some nice workers. We walked in the entire store is advertising nestle and Chapman ice cream + they don't allow you samples. This kind worker answered my questions on what were on the ice cream. And I asked how do you expect people to be convinced to buy a Canadian flavor ice cream without knowing if it takes good. Now the guy assured me that whatever flavor I picked he will add a tiny scoop of their signature tiger tail ice cream. Like any other store, you expect to pick your ice cream first and then pay, however this store they make you pay first, then you get a token indicating what you paid for. Then you turn around to the ice cream stands and tell the person behind the counter what you want. I do as say, but now it's another guy assisting me as opposed to 5mins prior. I tell him what I want and also tell him that his coworker said I can get a small spoon of tiger tail added to my order. Thinking he was joking, he said "we can't do that, I am not him , and he has no right to make that decision to offer you that" .. but fair behold he was serious. And I said okay. This miserable soul was indeed the grandson, which you can tell from his name tag on his hat. Then I looked around, the lady taking your money has the tag "daughter in law" and the first man helping me was of white descendent and on his hat it says "adopted". I WAS ABSOLUTELY APPALLED. You do not need to put a name tag indicating who you are to this store. Just your names will do! If you want more customers, practice what you preach.. they have a sign that says there's always room for ice cream but yet the grandson stated they don't allow samples because if you ask for so many samples you're not gonna want to buy any ice cream. Limiting the samples tries can be a better option. And there's always room for ice cream!! Terrible customer service and it wouldn't hurt to SMILE to your customers! It is not our fault you were forced to work at your family store during the summer ! As we sat at their table eating, the grandson continued to yell and be rude to the customers. Those ice creams are not homemade and taste just ok. They only provide one spoon for each order and will charge you 0.25 for additional spoons, which I haven't experienced this kind of unreasonable charge before.
