All amenities were provided, state of the art kitchen with several different types of coffee makers to cover all your coffee needs. We went during New Year's Eve weekend and loved that the cabin was decorated with a beautiful Christmas tree. The owners made themselves available to us the whole time we were there in the event we needed anything. The location of the cabin is central to the quaint town and downtown Lake Arrowhead an loved the neighborhood and private parking. The bedrooms were very comfortable, we were provided with extras of everything (i.e. pillows, blankets, bedding, etc.). The bathroom was stocked with plenty of towels and other amenities. We were able to play board games along with view a vast selection of DVD's for the nights we wanted to stay in and have family time. It was lake front and extremely convenient for a walk into town. We brought sleeping bags, pillows and towels as well as our own cooking tools (which we did not use since we ate dinner in town). It worked and we would return. Cabin 53 is a studio with two queen form beds, the room had a new fridge and microwave that were pristine. Were the finishing perfect? No, but it worked for our needs--a bed get friendly place to sleep while we spent our days enjoying Big Bear. The hosts were very responsive to questions via text message which was greatly appreciated.

I had them repainted a cheery yellow with white trim and red doors. I put a lot of thought, money and effort into decorating each of them individually and I was very proud of them. Sadly, I lost the business in the great recession of 2008 and, as a result, I had a lot of negative emotions about returning to Big Bear (even though I have loved Big Bear all of my 62 years). I stayed away until earlier this year when I came up on a day trip and then came back up in early July to spend a weekend. I chose Black Bear Cottages specifically so I could see how they had changed them. Turns out they haven't changed them at all. Literally nothing was different than what I had designed and purchased 12 years ago. This is not a bad thing, because I think I did a good job on them and they were adorable then and I think they are adorable now. When renting a vintage cabin in Big Bear, it's important to have reasonable expectations. A 75 year old cabin is probably going to lean a little bit. Some of the wood planks may come loose and if you have pine paneling inside you can expect some gaps over the years. Having said that, the cabin remains adorable. I had Cabin 1 which is right on the busy boulevard. Not my favorite location on the property, but I had no problems with any kind of noise. The bed is very comfortable - when I purchased them, I was so impressed I bought one of the same for myself. The place was clean (although a wad of gum that had been stuck to a sofa pillow had not been completely removed), everything worked properly and I had a lovely stay. The new innkeepers seem fine - I had no issues needing any extra assistance so I only dealt with them when I checked in and when I checked out. The location is convenient, right in the heart of Moonridge. It's close enough to the lake for summertime fun and very close to both ski resorts for winter stays. There are shops and restaurants about a block or two up the road and of course there are a jillion shops and restaurants within 5 miles of you. The only negative is the parking. It's always been a problem and it was very tight during my stay. Just don't be inconsiderate and remember - only one car per cabin! Very nice and I would definitely return.

My mother in law gave my a gift card for a 2 night stay last Xmas but when I called to book I was told that the ownership changed and they would only honor 1 night. I was disappointed but thought ok we'll both be taking a hit on this so I went ahead and made the reservation. The room is chilly, the radiator can't get the room above 65 despite being set to 80. The water pressure in the shower is so low I needed to fill a cup with water to rinse my hair. A light went out in the bathroom and we were told we could come pick up a light bulb. The bed sheets had hairs on them but unless your stay is three days there is no maid service despite sign that lead me to believe other wise. The front desk employee is very nice but isnt able to be helpful. I won't be back. It's a shame the new owners don't take the same pride in this place as the previous couple did. They were awesome and I'm sorry to see it go this way.

5 Kern's Cabin (Kabin on confirmation): The showers did not work correctly, the fixtures are…read morebroken and the water was scolding hot or freezing cold, not to mention plumbed the wrong way so hot is really cold and cold is really hot. This is super dangerous and luckily my youngest daughter did not get burned. There is no reason to allow your water heater to pump out scolding hot water, that is a simple adjustment. Fan in the bathroom is broken upstairs so to get air flow from a shower, you need to open the window which is in direct view of the neighbors living space. How the cleaning service does not notice this is confusing. The towels in the bathrooms are literally rags, all mixed matched, some with holes and super thin. Just a bit odd when you need 4 towels to dry off. The kitchen did not have a decent quality or array of items needed. The dishwasher had a rubber band holding the utensil tray on. The fireplace/living room was why we choose this location so that was as expected. The lingering Christmas decorations were a bit odd but with the overall quality of the property, it makes me think the property is just not either rented often or maintained. And last but not least, while we stayed for 2 nights, keep in mind we were out and about all day, a critter chewed all the wiring in our engine. It definitely was at this cabin since our engine light went on when we were departing on our last day. We assumed it was a faulty sensor since my car is new but as it turns out, $1,067 later, something ate through our engine while it was parked at the unit. And, that $1,067 may not fix it. If it doesn't work, the dealership told me they would need to replace this entire section. I did not bother to ask how much that was going to be. There are signs all over reminding you to not feed critters and you can not use their city issued trash receptacles. They want you to take the trash with you to this local dump which for this cabin, was in a convenient location. Not a big deal they want you to take the trash, but I am assuming the critter issue is a much bigger problem. We also opted to have the trip insurance just in case of weather. Although they cover a wide array of random things, the one thing they have listed as being not covered is.......VERMIN. I notified the management and they responded with a we will look into it. Does anyone else notice there are only 5 star reviews on their Big Bear Cabin website? Good thing we have other options on google & yelp to make a review!
