We enjoy visiting this tasting room when we visit Frankenmuth. Today we were thrilled to taste some new products as well as some others. We did a tasting - 4 tastes for $5 so 8 to share between the two of us. The Potato Vodka is very smooth and the Cherry Vodka didn't interest me but after my wife tried it Denice, our host, suggested we try it made cedar with Lemonade. Wow! Really great! We tried the Solera Bourbon and the Solera Rye. Both have complex aromas and flavors which makes sense due to the multiple barrel aging process. Tasty! Both the Rum and their take on Scotch were also quite good. Denice did a great job explaining the liquors and was fun to talk to. Great products and a great experience! read more

Went on a tour of the distillery with Harrison as our tour guide. Not only was he very knowledgeable of the process but he was very funny and provided a great overall experience. The tasting was the best part, and every recommendation of his was absolutely fantastic. Harrison did a great job and led me to buy several bottles of whiskey! This place has amazing - and I mean AMAZING - Bloody Mary shooters. I can't remember which kind of specialty vodka is in there but yes they do use my favorite mix - McClure's. You can try mini-shots of various different kinds of vodkas and bourbons that they make. They hand out recipes, very helpful and cool place. I personally tried the Chocolate Vodka, the Chipotle Vodka, and the Cherry Vodka. Of COURSE Cherry is my favorite and is what I purchased. read more

The whiskey and bourbon is some of the best locally made spirits. I enjoy the 4 tastes for $5, great chance to try before I buy.

We stopped here while we were in town shopping with a friend. There was a great deal for tastings and Mariah's energy made was really enjoyable. She recommended the cherry vodka lemonade slush cocktail and it was so good we ended up buying the cherry vodka so we can make it at home. Mariah also knew the taste of the distillery selection very well. Mariah even set up both my husband and in-laws with bottles of their favorite red wine to take home. There's room to grow in this location too. We hope to see an actual tasting room or at least bar stools for seating for multiple people in the future. read more

A nice shop for local liquors in the River Place shopping center in Frankenmuth. You can get a shot-glass-sized taste for $3 or a thimble-sized-taste for $1 (plenty for me!) I won't pretend that I tasted the cherry in the cherry whiskey per se, but it was still good. They have rye, bourbon, gin, rum, plus wine from the Black Star Farms winery. A busy weekend in Frankenmuth yesterday. We were walking around a packed River Place Mall and decided to treat our guest from Atlanta to a wine tasting at Grand Traverses Distillery. Patrons were lined up for their tastings. We were second in line and decided to get a drink to go rather than wait. As the bartender poured the next tasting for the customers ahead of us and after he explained to them what they were having, he just stood there waiting while they enjoyed their tastes and talked amongst themselves. I asked him if we could get a to go drink. We looked at me and said "as you can see, I'm busy right now. I am only one person ". There were absolutely no pleasantries exchanged and he looked offended that he had to wait on people. This is a time in our life where pleasant comments and conversations are needed. Offending conversations and rude behavior from people who are paid to wait on you will be the death of local businesses. The store was full of people waiting to be waited on. I truly wonder what their experience was. We decided to leave. We have been there several times. We are known to purchase a bottle or two anytime we have paid for a tasting. Very nice find in the newer shopping area of Frankenmuth. I saw a sign that said vodka tasting and thought this might be better than looking at candles or other knick knack items. The proprietor was busy with another group when I walked in so I took the opportunity to look around. Lots of bourbon, whiskey, wine, and other items available for sale. I didn't puruse closely enough the labels but I suspect it was all local stuff. But I was there for the vodka which I am a big fan of. I was served up my sample and wow...lights out good. Cherry vodka flavor with chocolate notes at finish...tasted like a chocolate covered cherry. Very smooth going down. So proceeded to buy a bottle and left. 750mL was about $35 total but worth it. I have since looked for sales in this area and can't find it; looks like it is limited to Traverse City and surrounding retail areas in Michigan. Next time I am there I will be buying several bottles as gifts for co-workers. Great local flavor and happy to support a local (to Michigan) distillery. read more

This place is really different. I usually go wine tasting and going to a place that offer spirits as well as wine was pretty cool. They allow you to do spirit tasting straight, or mixed with different mixers like Moscow mule, Bloody Mary or apple pie shooter. I absolutely fell in love with the smoked vodka. Mixed with the spicy Bloody Mary mix, this may be the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. read more

Great quality. Fun time. Excellent wines and liquors. While there are the GT distillery products (all fantastic), there are also wines from Black Star Farms as well. You can do a wine tasting for a very reasonable price and you keep the glass which reads "Black Star Farm Frankenmuth" and you can do a distillery tasting for the same amount as well and you receive a glass for that as well. This is a great tasting room in the midst of cheesy shops in downtown Frankenmuth. You can sample a plethora of whiskeys, bourbons and vodka for $1 a piece or $5 for 3 with a nice souvenir glass. I sampled a rye and cherry vodka, as well as a Traverse City cherry flavored bourbon. The employee/bartender gave great descriptions of each of the samples. The prices were a little high, but it is nice to buy and support local business. read more

If someone on your gift list likes spirits, there are gifts here that you cannot get anywhere else back home. The staff is knowledgeable and helped me find a few good bottles. The cherry vodka is not the cheap stuff in your grocery store that college girls buy. You will hardly taste the cherry... it isn't cloyingly sweet... it's very subtle. Very limited selection, but what bothered me was the rudeness of a certain employee, who decided to correct my husband on how he was wearing his mask in the most offensive way he could. We understand places of business have their preferences on what people do in their store, but there was a much kinder as respectful way to ask my husband to adjust his mask, especially in a place that allowed people to remove their masks when seated. I'll be finding the name of the owner of the store to alert them to the lack of very basic manners and courtesy shown and will remember this encounter whenever choosing between this brand and another. read more

This was the 3rd time I've been to the Distillery tasting room. The first 2 times were ok. My wife and I enjoyed the spirits and the staff was very knowledgable about the product. We always left happy and with a bottle of the cherry vodka. However, we were very disappointed when we went this time. We were so excited to see that Blackstar Farms had joined in with this tasting room because we are wine club members. When we asked if they were an official tasting room the staff member said that they were but as soon as we took out our club card membership he told us that it was not. We left and thought we might come back later in the day. We came back and decided to do some wine and spirits tastings. We had a different staff member and she could not have cared less that we were there. The tastings are a $1 a piece and at one point she served my wife a wine she didn't even ask for. After she served us a drink she would stand there telling us nothing about the wine but look angry and disgusted to be working. It was an unpleasant experience but I will still give it 3 stars only because Grand Traverse Distillery and Blackstar Farms products are great. read more
