*** In the effort to decompress from our experience and not come across as a Karen I waited 3 weeks before writing this review and alas nothing has changed about how upsetting our experience was at Grand Pine Cabins and more so how the situation was handled and how these owners conduct their business.*** We booked 2 nights over Christmas at Grand Pine "Cabins" first of all - website photos and name of property are completely deceptive - most of the rooms are not cabins, rather insanely tiny motel rooms with 2 walls adjoining other rooms **uninsulated wood paneling** and when I say you can hear everything next door... I mean you can hear EVERYTHING. Day 1, checked in fine (was disappointed by what we had received based on what I thought we were booking into but shook it off). The sound travelling through walls is insane we had a couple fighting and a dog barking on one wall and what sounded like an army of children screaming and jumping on beds in the other adjoining room until close to 1am - it is what it is, was no going to let it ruin our Christmas. Day 2, We were out all day exploring Wrightwood and hiking, arrived back at 4pm... 4:20pm there is a knock at the door and a staff member tells me "there has been noise complaints and she was following up" - I say "we have been out all day and only back for 20min, what noise?" she says "dog barking" I say " well ours have been out with us all day and perhaps she should look into the next room where their dog has been left behind and barking all day?" No Apology, she just says "she is supposed to inform everyone" ... Ok 12:30am - Staff member sheepishly knocks on our door while I am brushing my teeth "I am following up on another noise complaint" I say "we are getting ready for bed... what noise?" she says "They can hear the tv in your room" I say "we are watching HGTV... a property flipping show on volume 25!!" She is embarrassed and I am now getting upset. I say "you didn't hear from us complaining to you about the size of the room, the dogs barking or children running around like animals last night.... and you knock on our door after midnight to ask us to turn the TV down? that is insane! we are paying to stay here and are completely within our rights to be watching tv and if your walls are so thin that the TV is offending other guests then you have a very big problem." The lady admits that "she can not hear it from outside and that she just has to follow up on any complaints" I said "Why would you feel the need to confront us when you said yourself you could NOT hear anything? follow up yes, but make a judgement call for yourself if in fact we are doing anything wrong. Now you have falsely accused us TWICE in one day of disturbing others with noise and it is simply not true." she apologizes and leaves. Day 3, checking out - there is no-one onsite and I use the door camera to speak to someone and ask if they can see me to discuss my being upset by yesterdays accusations and our being told off like children had left a bad taste in my mouth. no-one is willing to speak to me - I explained virtually to owners Lance and Joanne/a what had taken place and their apologies and excuses were "that they were completely aware of the sound issues (they happen all the time) the cabins were built in the 70s and the only way to fix it would be to insulate the wooden walls -which they were not willing to do." Both owners verbally offered us some kind of compensation or credit as a gesture of apology for what we had experienced (that never happened). So future guests beware, If you are seeking the peace and quiet of nature... this is not it!! The place has so much potential, it is in a prime spot in Wrightwood but we will never be staying here again. The fact the owners are aware of such an intrusive obvious problem across the whole facility yet have the nerve and ruin out little getaway by falsely blaming us for noise... is NOT how to do business! read more

This quaint little place was so cute, and so close to Mountain High. A few friends and I stayed overnight here on a field trip to the ski resort. We had originally booked at another place, but it turned out to be way too far. So with the help of Yelp we found this place. There were about 5 of us and we paid about $100 bucks, not bad for last minute reservation. The place is pretty cool, we got a cabin complete with TV, Microwave and Fridge, and a small bathroom. It comes with 2 queen beds, a cot and a couch with an armchair. Really roomy. Although we were freezing when we got there, during the night the cabin got way too hot because of the heater, you actually regret wearing so many layers to bed. Overall a great place, and I'd definitely come back here for friends if we ever come back to mountain high. read more

After a day of ridding Mt. High and looking for a place to crash for the night my hands where tied behind my back when I stumbled upon the Pines Motel. Pines is decent, but overpriced (as many hotels in Wrightwood seem to be). The staff is very friendly and they turn the heat on for you, and parking is provided. But the beds are really uncomfortable. It's not a fancy place, the but the wood decor definitely makes it feel like a quaint woodsy cabin. read more

Cute place in Wrightwood! The rooms are very homey and cabin like. Furnishings at a bit dated but it's great for a weekend getaway! Free wifi, fridge, microwave, and tv. The owner turned on the heater for us before we got there. :) A one bedroom queen was only $99 dollars! The previous motel we stayed at in town charge $139! I highly recommend staying here. We stayed for 2 days just for a short get away and the cabins are so cute and really clean we had cabin 8, Gilbert was a really nice guy, he will do everything he can to make your stay comfortable. The town is small you can walk to all the restaurants & shops, the food is great in every cafe and the Mile High pizza place makes delicious pizza's, the Mexican restaurant food was good too. The locals are all very nice. You can take a short drive to mountain High. read more

Great little cabin it was perfect for our little winter getaway. New owners are doing a wonderful job with these cozy cabins. We stayed in the deluxe family suite room 9. It was cozy and Clean. We really enjoyed our stay. Furniture and Decor was nice we like that it was equipped with a smart TV. We were able to watch our Netflix shows. Wood burning fireplace equipped with a duraflame log. The comforters were clean and warm made with down feather fill. The bathroom towels smelled so good and fresh I wish my fresh laundry smelled that good. The sheepskin rug was a nice touch! There was a Keurig coffee maker with the necessities for a yummy cup of coffee. Really liked that there was enough hanging space for our snow gear to dry without clutter. Parking was right in front of our room! Easy unloading and loading. I called a couple times to change reservations due to winter storm. The man that answered both times was very pleasant and gave me great info and advice. Great customer service. I will definitely be coming back! read more

My family (wife, two kids and I) decided to go skiing at mountain high slope last week. Based on the online review, wife selected the Grand Pine Cabins. This place is very cute, chic and gives this warm vibe. You can immediately tell, the owners care about this place. While, I was getting pizza with my son at a nearby Pizza place, my ladies decided to go to the hotel hospitality room (yes, it is small, but it does have a nice arcade game, coffee maker and sofa). Later that night, my wife realized that she probably had left her wallet in the community room. It was a bummer, all the cards, IDs, house keys and 300+ cash. We were quite bummed out. Later that evening, Lance, the owner contacted us, while we were driving back to San Diego. He mentioned that the wallet was returned and he will mail it back to us. On top, he even offered an upgrade voucher for another return visit. We are both very pleased. Kudos to Lance and everyone there. We will stay there again. Thanks!!! read more

On the way back from a day spent gallivanting around the IE and the HD to show off The Brit to my "family," the bug of spontaneity bit him and he suggested we get a hotel somewhere along the route home. He wanted something a little weird/unique and off the side of the desolate road, like a Bates Motel sans psycho murderer. So, we exited at a gas station along the Cajon Pass, bought a single toothbrush to share and asked around about hotels in the area. Without suggestions from staff we turned to the GPS. Enter the Pines Motel. "Pines Motel" made me think "Bates Motel" but nicer, so why not? Plus, it's in Wrightwood which I figured The Brit would really like since he's developed a love affair with Big Sur. It's got trees and all that good stuff, so why not? We phoned, someone answered and they said that they had a room available for $109. Okay, no problem. We arrived and thought it was perfect. The quaint little red peaked roofs and white trim seemed to fit the bill for weird/unique. We rang the doorbell, paid and the office manager walked us to our room. This is when perfect started to turn into the two stars you see above. Problem #1: the office manager couldn't get the door open. The bottom lock didn't work and when he did finally manage it, he told us just to lock the deadbolt since it wasn't working correctly. OK, fine. At this point spontaneity still has the better of us. The room looked alright with it's Native American, pinewood walls and custom wood legged furniture. Still near perfect. The O.M. turned the heat on for us and pointed out obvious things like the fridge and microwave (neither of which are plugged in, so your food/drink won't be kept cold for a few hours). And then we were left to it... One of our lights didn't work. OK, sure, we laughed it off, no worries. But we had been on the road a bit and needed a pee. Introducing problem #2: the bathroom. Walked in to a spider (albeit tiny) dangling from it's web. Cobwebs in all corners of the bathroom, duct tape on various parts of the linoleum and a shower that hadn't been used in so long that there was sand and dust all throughout it. It was disgusting. The Brit pointed out that the toiletries were the kind you'd find free in a magazine. The towels were like sandpaper and made for someone the size of a child. Then the creepiness began to set in. The carpet in the room was nailed down, which meant it was never cleaned beyond vacuuming. Who knows how long it had been since someone had this room anyway as the O.M. didn't know the door was broken and the bathroom was a veritable ghost town. The bed looked sorta clean, but the pillow cases were stained in areas. We wanted to go out for a walk and enjoy our $5.50 bottle of gas station sparkling wine but couldn't even lock the deadbolt from the outside since the key didn't fit. We had to lock all our stuff in the car until we came back. When we did finally return later that night I couldn't get settled. I couldn't get comfortable and couldn't figure out what it was. Maybe there was some bad mojo in that room, but whatever it was, it made sure no magic could happen because I just couldn't gel with the spontaneity anymore. I got an "OK" night's rest, but the bed wasn't at all comfortable. The heater goes back and forth from too much heat to none at all, no middle ground. The bed and pillows are not comfortable. We're not even sure we had hot water in the room either (as we were not about to take a shower and find out). The more sleep I lost that night, the more I thought about how overpriced and unfair it all was. Check out is at 11am so we figured we'd go and have breakfast and return to make a pit stop before returning the key and getting on the road, but they came back to our unlocked room by 10:28am and that plan was lost. When I told the O.M. how I thought it was all unfair he gave me a card good for a night free, which was good of him. No argument or anything. Thing is, would I want to return to use it? Probably not. I'd have rather gotten the room for $50. Oh, and since we weren't able to use our hotel bathroom we tried asking where another one was. Here's how that went: The Brit: "Is there a restroom we can use around here?" O.M.: "Restroom?" The Brit: "Yeah, bathroom? Restroom?" O.M.: "All rooms have restroom." Us: "Yeah, but since they're cleaning ours is there another one somewhere we can use?" O.M.: "Restaurant maybe?" Us: Awesome. Take our $109 for not even a full 12 hours, then you come in early to clean and then don't even let us use a bathroom? Awesome. The good: close to the road, close to a cafe and restaurant and two bars where a good night out can be had and the O.M. let The Brit use a blackberry charger overnight. read more

Charming is the best word I could use to describe this place. My friend and I have stayed here twice this winter season and absolutely LOVE it!. The first time we were fortunate enough to get the family cabin that had a bedroom, bathroom, family room and kitchen. The kitchen had a stove, and fridge, and various cooking utensils for your convenience - we brought all of our own food and cooked and were able to make our own hot chocolate, it was just delightful. There was a fire place and two beds in the family room...plenty of people could stay here (which you might wanna do cuz it's a bit pricey like $170 a night.) The second time we only got a bedroom with a fireplace in it (and bathroom of course) but the fireplaces really make for the experience. You just get that cozy mountain feel. And if it weren't for the annoying bratty kids playing outside our room in the snow all damn day and night, it would have been perfect. There is a cool Asian dude with a ponytail that runs the place...he doesn't speak much English but he will light the pilot in your heater and help you find parking...the second time we came there it was like coming home. Perfect place to stay if you wanna go boarding....it's five minutes from the lifts (minus suckville traffic). Five stars...can't wait to go back. P.S. Don't expect the Marriott....It's very janky and mountainish...like ripped curtains and stuff...but hey, that just adds to its charm. read more

ZERO STARS!!!! WORST ACCOMMODATIONS EVER! EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER!! My wife and I frequent Wrightwood during the winter as we are season pass holders at the local mountain. During the NYE holiday we elected to extend our trip and stayed the night here. Upon arrival the host (owner) was very pleasant and checked us in. We went to our room (#4) and the room was as expected. Extremely dated, not very well maintained, and extremely cold! After playing with the thermostat (actually had to take it apart myself and connect one of the wires) to have the wall heater actually call for heat we settled into a 1970's hard as hell bed. The linens were equally as old and thankfully my wife brought pillows and an old down comforter that came in handy as we woke up at 3am FREEZING our tails off as the wall heater decided it got too hot and stopped working. Did I mention the water heater holds enough water to take 1(ONE) 5 MINUTE SHOWER before running out of hot water. After a freezing night trying to stay warm my wife awoke to my morning glory not flushing in the toilet...seriously embarrassed I notified the owner to c ome investigate...meanwhile in an attempt to take a quick shower the hot water for the shower wouldn't even turn on...pipes frozen apparently upon the owners husband's investigation with the plunger to unclog a toilet we used once the night before..... It keeps getting better.......we decided to run to the local cafe for breakfast while the maintenance team (husband with a plunger) worked on figuring out how we were going to shower upon our return.. Upon return as I entered the unit I hear water running in the bathroom...to my surprise he had left the hot water valve in the open position and the drain handle in the closed position......water was literally 1inch from flowing over the tub as the drain waste overflow (a device on the tub to prevent flooding) was obviously defective.. We now have to wait to shower (as I previously mentioned there's only enough hot water for 1 (one) 5 minute shower and the genius with a plunger now drained the hot water heater of all its available hot water... The only good part about waiting 45 minutes for the tank to heat the water was taking the 5 minute shower WITH my wife..although more time would have yielded it much more entertaining.. Upon final loading of our baggage I spoke with the plumbers wife about discounting our stay considering what we had to deal with or at minimum offering us a discount on a possible future stay since we go up to the area 20+ times a season to snowboard... she looked at me like I was crazy for even asking... I expressed that in an act of good business you want to ensure satisfied customers...she could care less! I mentioned I would explain my experience on YP and she said "go ahead, I don't care" in broken English/Asian.. There are plenty of other accommodations in the area..I'd rather sleep in my SUV or drive back to Orange County than give this place a nickel!! The cabin was so cold and we turned on the heater and it shuts off by itself in 15mins. We were freezing while sleeping and woke up at least 10 times. It felt like we were sleeping inside the tent. Make sure you wear jacket when you go to sleep. Also the fire alarm went on so loud and shuts off for nothing. There was no fire but the alarms went on and off the whole night. I thought when we first went into the room that this is a nice place. Not so much. The refrigerator was in the closet and not any where you can plug it in. Since it was stormy weather there the days we stayed, and had to stay inside it would have been nice to have a working refrigerator Also, it would have been nice to have a small microwave as well. There was not a place to put our clothes away. Lucky we were only there for 2 days. The windows were not sealed, and it was really cold and windy, and we sure felt the cold. The beds were the most uncomfortable beds EVER!!! Also, since there was only 2 of us, there was not a need for 2 beds, and that was the only choice we had. Also the workers were working in the next room until *30 at night. We had to pound on the wall to have them stop. Twice we had people just walk into our room when we were there, the locks on the doors do not work very well. Needless to say, I don't think we will be staying there again. read more

The owner and the lady working there are super nice and Pines Motel has a rustic flair to it, which I thought was quite charming and romantic. The problem is the furnishings are pretty old, which makes them less attractive, e.g. the bed sheets had several holes in them and some discolored spots. The carpet and cupboard are not so clean that you'd want to use them/go barefoot on them but I'm also a little bit of a germaphobe. The reason why we chose this was that it's $100 a night, which is less than the other places. I believe all the hotels in Wrightwood are pretty expensive because the location is so good. Overall we enjoyed our stay and might come again. But we'll first try different motels to see the difference. read more

Great stay with very helpful and friendly staff. We stayed in Room 1 with two queens. The room is clean and comfortable with a big adorable factor. The owners have recently renovated from the windows down to the vintage looking but high tech gadgetry in the room. The beds, pillows and sheets are heaven. The bathroom is small but comfy with plush towels and great toiletries. The hot water takes a little while to flow in but hey it's the mountains! Be patient. The location is in the heart of Wrightwood making restaurants, shops and the park across the street highly walkable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend to anyone. read more

I did not know that towels could be so small and that a bar of hotel soap could be translucent and wafer thin. But, it made a fun weekend to hike in the Angeles Forest and then stay at this hotel instead of driving home that night. Cute breakfast place within walking distance. read more

My family and I have stayed here a few times and really enjoyed the stay! The office is so easy to work with and really do a good job accommodating any requests you have. Its literally in town, and you can walk to all restaurants/bars/coffee houses, which we did every morning. It's about a 10 / 15 minute drive to Mtn. High or Table Top Mountain. It's also right across the street from a playground, which was a life saver for my toddler. We'll be back this winter! read more

***PAID FOR A ROOM WHEN NO ONE STAYED THERE***Attempted paying for a room the night before the occupants arrived for our wedding. I am assuming due to the language barrier the owner made my wedding guests pay for the night I originally thought I had paid for in the at of 300$. In pleading with him stating "you do know no one stayed here for that one night confirming I paid for the room for the night after?" He avoided the question all together. The 300$ was refunded to my brother n laws card and he was still charged 80$ along with my card having the same charge with NO one staying there on one of the nights. Very very disappointing. The rooms are dank and rustic yes. Worth 80 bucks, probably not.... read more

Great location near the shops. Prive is reasonable. I got a $10 PCT hiker discount. They did not have working AC when I stayed, but had a working ceiling fan which worked great. The kind woman at the front desk was very helpful and did my laundry for $10. I greatly enjoyed my stay. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Pines Motel! Our room was very comfy and simple--nothing fancy, but that was exactly what we wanted for our little getaway. There was a TV and fridge in our room, but we only cared about enjoying the fireplace =] The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars was because their website is really out-of-date--I wish they'd update it! I had to book over the phone, but it wasn't much of a problem in the end. After our stay, though, I wanted to get in touch with the owner via email to ask about something but the email address listed on the site is defunct, and the one they gave me over the phone didn't work. So I wish they had more of an online presence for convenience's sake, but as for our actual stay, it was really nice and we thought the place was great. read more

Stayed here one night and had such a great experience that we decided to stay again! First, our cabin was so charming and rustic! Exactly what I was looking for! I called ahead and got the cabin for a great price.. especially considering every other location in Wrightwood is so expensive! The owners were sweet and accommodating! I received the exact price I was quoted.. contrary to another review! The heater was heavenly and our room provided the perfect "woodsy" atmosphere! A wonderful getaway from city life! The "managers office" was filthy and smelly. That should have been our first clue. Our room was worse than the seediest Motel 6...several of the lights didnt work, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and there was no knob on the bathroom door.
