Call Guinness.. this may be the world's most ridiculous policy
    Steve R.

If you're looking here you're probably wondering if Yaamava played a tricked on you? I'm here to tell you they did. This isn't one of those pleasant jokes, like a gift card that says $10 and really has a $100 loaded on it. You've been pranked. Epic T.V. Show, hidden cameras, scripted level prank. Now to be fair it's not a bad place to stay. The rooms are well furnished the iPads are helpful, the gym is well equipped, they have pictures of the restaurant in the lobby, but I haven't eaten there so I won't comment on that. But that's not to say I don't think I should be given a credit to eat there. With my previous few experiences here I think a free dinner or breakfast is the LEAST they could do to make up for how I was treated. Let's start with the "courtesy call" I made the reservation through the Yaamava VIP host, they took my card info and made the reservation. I made it for the next day and told them I would be around because I had a funeral to attend to. That I would be by to check in after the funeral. So they called me... DURING THEN FUNERAL, that's not what I call a courtesy, it was inhumane. But the manager on duty Ms. Summer put the blame on Yaamava, so we both lamented Yaamava's unprofessionalism. The coup de grâce which really irks me is the deposit policy. Check in isn't until 4pm. Standard, no problem with that. But if you don't check in by 6pm they charge your credit card the full amount of the room. UNACCEPTABLE!!! You have two hours to check in or they charge you an outrageous price? Two hours? Get this if they charge you this ridiculous unexpected rate and your card doesn't go through, they give away your room. What kind of threat is that? Where does it make sense and in whose mind is this policy okay in? The general manager Jason called the next day and acted like this policy was completely normal. You can tell when you're talking to someone who has been trained to gaslight, It's not a normal policy it's crazy. In summary I like staying at Bear Springs, it's not Yaamava not anywhere even close to the same level of luxury but it's still cool. But I hate the deposit policy. The charge stays on your card for weeks. It's like an interest free loan they take EVERY time. It really sucks as far as unnecessary payments go, because they charge you another deposit on top of that when you arrive. It's an utter failure as far as policies go. So just be aware even though you got comped a stay you'll most likely be ripped off the entire amount for a good portion of time. Plus a deposit. Whoever came up with this policy should be scalped a square inch on both temples. Two days later and neither of the charges or deposits or whatever they called these cash grabs have been returned. Have fun coming here, be prepared for their failure of a completely unnecessary and superfluous policy to jack you for a few hundred. But hearing them bad mouth their partner Yaamava is slightly amusing. Overall verdict, this place seems like a strong maybe. Think carefully before staying.

This seemingly off the radar bistro, (Bear Springs Bistro & Lounge), located inside the hotel offers a variety of food that would surely satisfy any appetite The appetizers and the main entree dishes offers guests a fine dining experience that one would expect in a stand alone restaurant. I ordered the 10oz petite fillet. It was delicious and extremely flavorful. The dish came with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and carrots, all which, were equally tasty. Also offered are dishes such as; seabass and ribeye along with a host of others. My server/bartender, Don was great. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and even recommended some customer favorites. His personality and friendly disposition was very much appreciated. The bistro closes at 9pm but the bar area is open until 10pm. And for those late night cravings, 24-hour room service is available offering a full menu. The hotel room accommodations are also worthy of laud and praise. I stayed in a junior suite, which, I found very spacious. It had a modern decor design with an upscale vibe. A rotating 48 inch TV screen sits in the center of the room allowing guests to view it from their bed or the sitting area. A portable tablet allows guests to surf the internet while accessing other services. The hotel is very clean and the support staff is extremely accommodating. The checkin & out procedure is very smooth, quick and efficient. The hotel offers a 24-hour courtesy shuttle to and from the Yaamava Casino, which, is only a short 10 minute ride. The close proximity of the casino coupled with the courtesy shuttle, the bistro and the hotel made for a wonderful stay.

I recommend requesting the dark roast if you like your coffee strong, their dark roast is amazing! Tifanie was very helpful during check-in and check-out and was extremely friendly. Unfortunately, I do have a few complaints, which are a bigger deal for me since I had little ones with me. I requested an extra pillow and blankets for the room, but there was no staff available to bring them up, so I had to go down to the front desk to pick them up myself. Another time, when I was bathing my daughter, I noticed the conditioner was empty. I called and asked if they could refill it or bring a travel-size bottle, but again I was told I would need to come to the front desk to get it. This is the first hotel I've stayed at where I had to leave my room to get items that either weren't properly stocked or were simple requests. I also noticed one of the towels in the bathroom was dirty, and the floor near the bed was wet when we arrived. While the staff was friendly and the hotel had a nice vibe, the housekeeping team definitely needs some improvement.

Our group has 4+ rooms booked for the weekend and since we are all a mixed group of busy adults in our 20's, 30's & 40's, we are not often together. We all checked in at various times the night prior. This morning we woke up and everyone came to my room to visit and see each other. We decided to get breakfast, and when we reached the first floor and walked to the breakfast area, one of the employees at the desk started to yell at us, asking if we were room number ### and yelling something to the effect of "didn't you sign a contract when you checked in?! There is no loud music allowed and no partying." She said some other things to my friends but I didn't catch what she said. What I did catch was the tone of voice. There is a certain respect and rapport when talking to guests, and yelling at them from behind the registration desk as they are walking by to get breakfast while other guests are present eating breakfast is not the way. The approach was very aggressive and it honestly brought the mood and atmosphere down for our whole group. It was definitely not the positive start and vibe we wanted to initiate our vacation with. We did have music playing, I will attest to that, but because my room was at the end of the building, a corner room, and only has one neighbor, I did not think our music was playing too loudly. It was 9am in the morning, not in the middle of the night, as we would not play music while people were trying to sleep. At any rate, this will probably be the last time we stay at this Hilton property. There are many around the area that provided a more welcoming and understanding experience.

We did run into a billing mix-up related to Expedia, but a staff member named Ariana helped sort it out and made sure it was resolved. Really appreciated her help. One small note: our coffee maker didn't have sugar or creamer, but the front lobby had us covered, so no big deal. My only real critique isn't specific to this hotel -- it's more of a hospitality industry thing. Checkout was at 12pm and check-in at 3pm, which means guests never actually get a full 24 hours even though that's essentially what you're paying for. I'd love to see hotels move toward at least a 24-hour stay window, even if that just means pushing checkout to 1pm. Overall though, this hotel is an excellent example of what a hotel brand should be, and I hope their other locations hold to the same standard. Highly recommend.

The small kitchen and dining area was cute and served us well for the ~three days we were there. We would serve ourselves from the breakfast buffet downstairs (that's included in the price of the room) and bring our food to eat in the comfort of our suite's dining room. Each morning they offered a continental breakfast with a few hot items like egg and cheese omelettes, sausage or bacon, hash browns one morning and biscuits and gravy the next morning. They had two waffle makers and their waffles were actually really good. There were a lot of families staying there this past weekend. There were a lot of guests that were there for the graduation ceremonies happening throughout the weekend at Loma Linda University. But either all the guests were fairly quiet and sedate or the hotel walls were nice and thick. The other advantage of this hotel is the proximity to Downtown Redlands, Loma Linda, and many shops and restaurants just a short drive away. The restaurants and shops of the Mountain Grove area are just a short walk from the hotel. And the hotel is sandwiched between a Krispy Kreme and a Dutch Bros. On our last morning before checking out I walked to the Dutch Bros. to try their coffee for the first time. It was pretty good but to be honest, the coffee I put together the prior morning from the hotel's coffee carafe mixed with a Swiss Miss hot cocoa packet they offer at their coffee station with a little half and half and a little bit of sugar was stronger and better tasting than the Dutch Bros. coffee, just saying.

I specifically chose and paid for this property expecting my confirmed reservation to be honored. When I arrived on September 5, I was told the hotel had overbooked and did not have a room for me. I was sent to Citrus Suites, a significantly less expensive property that was a downgrade from the hotel I had booked. When I arrived at Citrus Suites, I was told they were completely sold out and could not accommodate me. I then had to drive back to SpringHill Suites and explain the situation all over again. The manager on duty, Silvino Diaz, apologized and ultimately had his team locate a room at their sister property, Aloft in Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga--approximately 24 minutes away from the hotel I had originally booked and paid for. Fortunately, the Aloft staff was accommodating and I was finally able to get a room. However, I should never have had to go through three hotels to find somewhere to stay when I had a confirmed, prepaid reservation. I spoke with General Manager John Maciel on September 8. While he apologized, he could not explain how the hotel became overbooked and offered no meaningful resolution beyond an apology. The biggest issue is accountability. A hotel should not accept and confirm payment for a reservation if it cannot honor that reservation. Sending a paying guest from one hotel to another--only to discover the second hotel is also sold out--is completely unacceptable. I chose this Marriott property based on its location, accommodations, and price point. Instead, I was given a downgrade, sent to a second hotel that had no availability, and ultimately relocated more than 20 minutes away. I will not be staying at this property again, and I will be escalating this experience to Marriott Corporate. I strongly encourage management to review its reservation and overbooking procedures so that other guests with confirmed reservations do not experience the same situation. A confirmed reservation should mean exactly that--confirmed.
