The meats were stacked, like 1 portion was like 2 portion from other typical hot pot place. A lot of sauce at the sauce bar, can't complain. All you can drink... that was a big one. They got your typical herbal tea to counter that "yeet hay" problem your parents be nagging you about every time you eat hot pot. Chrysanthemum tea that got no caffeine. Soy milk for the kids who can't drink milk. Coke, sprite, and root beer for the basics. List goes on. Ice cream bar was good too, my favorite was the mango. Grand Hotpot is your all-you-can-eat (AYCE) late-night (open til 11pm some nights even til midnight) hotpot stop in the Bay Area! What sets them apart from other AYCE hotpot establishments are it's appetizer offerings as well as their all-you-can-drink options (with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic canned selections). The restaurant has plenty of seating in the main dining room for parties of all sizes, and upstairs they have their VIP rooms with also comes with the option to have karaoke - so you can sing your hearts out while dining. Our party of 3 came in on a late Saturday night around 8:30pm craving some hotpot given the chill outside. We were seated quickly and all ordering is done off paper sheets that you can fill out with your selections. Something to note - you don't need to write in any quantity when ordering. Instead the staff will provide portions of food to your table according to the size of your party - definitely important to keep in mind to ensure you don't over order! We decided on their tonkatsu and house broth, while also getting a wide selection of meats, vegetables, mushrooms, and noodles. They also offer hot appetizers as well and they have some dinner-only selections that I would highly recommend including their salmon sashimi (it's fresh and delicious, trust me on this one) and snow crab leg. Some other dinner-only goodies that I love are their sugar pea sprouts and enoki mushrooms. Food is served fairly quickly and you don't have to wait long to dig into your meal. Drinks are included and you're able to help yourself to variety of canned beverages from the fridge located in their main dining room - this includes sodas, juices, and some Asian drinks including grass jelly and herbal teas (my personal favorites). During dinner they also offer a limited alcohol menu with sake and Sapporo beer. The unlimited canned drinks although so simple, truly makes the experience unique as you're able to enjoy a full meal with a beverage of your choice - I ended up finishing a total of 3 drinks by the end of dinner. Little hidden gem that tastes good and is inexpensive, all you can eat and drink for like $30 a person if you go during the lunch happy hour is an AMAZING deal. They have really yummy canned Asian drinks (my favorite is the lychee) that are so good and UNLIMITED. I usually have 2 so that's like $6 on its own. You get to choose two different soup flavors (even if you're eating by yourself or a buddy). The meats are pretty decent quality. The food they have on their menu is really good as well. Obviously this isn't the healthiest food, but if you're trying to fill your stomach on a budget, this place is perfect for that!!! They also offer unique choices like crab and abalone if you're in the mood for something different. There was no wait when I arrived, and the service was fast, responsive, and very friendly. The staff checked in regularly and were happy to bring soup refills and anything else we needed. The sauce station is great. Some sauces come from bottles, and others are self-serve in containers so you can mix your own. I always enjoy customizing mine. One of the best parts? Free canned drinks. I had the herbal drink and the soy milk. Both were solid and a nice bonus. One thing to note: I got the herbal soup and tom yum. They can get pretty salty after a while. A great spot that showed up when I was looking for hot pot around San Francisco. A bit of a drive from where we were staying but wanted to check it out due to the price, variety, and the fact that drinks were included with the meal! We arrived around 5 pm on a weekday. It wasn't too busy and there were plenty of tables available. Parking is also available outside the plaza. The meat was good and there was plenty of vegetables. We got beer and sake included with the meal and also got to try other canned drinks from the fridge. I think the only thing that could be improved on is if they let you order individual portions instead of portions based on the amount of people at the table. Great experience! $26 for unlimited hot pot orders, cold drinks, and four flavors of ice cream is a deal! You first start choosing two types of soups. We got the house spicy and the tonkatsu. The house spicy had a good layer of oil and Szechuan peppercorns so it made your mouth numb. The tonkatsu was rich and had a nice white pepper taste to it. After ordering, within 5 minutes, we got most of the orders and got into eating. While this isn't the best meat you'll ever have, you get a lot of what you want specifically and unlimited amounts. My favorites was their variety of mushrooms and tofu. The best cut of beef was the "Prime Beef Slices" because they were so tender and seemingly could not be overcooked (some sort of meat tenderizer). The staff were fast and friendly. Unfortunately, Lewis did not save the reservation despite phone and email confirmation. (We were told not to make reservations with him in the future.) However, Bosco was extremely patient and helpful. Despite a booked restaurant, he found us a table for our large group, and he let us take the first available karaoke room after. The broth is pretty flavorful - we got split pots of the house spicy, house original, tom yum and spicy miss. We ordered lamb, pork belly, thin sliced beef, tripe, tiger prawns, shrimp, tofu, noodles and mixed veggies. The tempura shrimp and honey shrimp appetizers were group favorites. Our group was all fairly new to hot pot, so I think tips like I've seen at all other hot pot places would be helpful - especially for sauce combos. Overall the food was probably 3-3.5 stars. So why the two star rating? Food poisoning which I started to feel a few hours later. I've never been here just for hotpot because the combination of karaoke and hotpot is such a great vibe. The karaoke system was decent; we had a few issues at first, but their tech person quickly fixed them for us. The best thing about this location is the menu. It's an all-you-can-eat hotpot, but they also offer unlimited main dishes and alcohol! They have orange chicken, green onion pancakes, honey-glazed prawns, and more. For drinks, they offer Sapporo, sake, chardonnay, and various other alcoholic options. The customer service was fantastic--staff were always attentive to our needs, orders were brought quickly, and our tables were consistently cleaned. For $45, this was definitely worth it! My sugar was sinking and I needed to eat. Grand Hot Pot was nearby and I pointed the van in their direction. The parking lot in front is large and parking is easy. This was the first time that we had come here, just the two of us. It was early and there were only two other tables in use when we walked in. We marked our order sheet, hoping that we didn't order too much, but certainly wanting variety. I know now, as I look at a past review that I missed some premium items. Many of those are limited to one per person and it didn't seem to make sense to order just one Hokkaido Scallop. I also failed to order Xiao Long Bao but that was a good thing because we barely managed to finish what we had ordered. What did we get? Spring Rolls Honey Glazed Prawns House Original Soup Tonkatsu Soup Lamb Shoulder Slices Beef Slices Rib Eye Steak Slices Beef Meat Balls Lobster Balls Something written only in Chinese Tiger Prawns Fish Fillet Watercress Napa Cabbage Spinach Corn King Oyster Mushroom Fresh Tofu Rice Noodles The soups started with great flavors that became so much better as we cooked our ingredients in them. The sliced meats were so-so. They were thinly sliced like at all other hot pot places and there was certainly enough of each, but the slices really shrank as soon as they hit the hot soup and were much chewier than I would have liked. (We have been spoiled for all Hot Pot and Shabu Shabu after having dined at another restaurant in Santa Clara. We paid truly premium prices, but we got excellent value as well.) The server mumbled as she was putting down the meats and we couldn't hear her so I've listed all the sliced meats as Unknown Meat. I had ordered some Pork but our itemized reciept showed one Beef item twice. The Beef Balls were very firm. The Lobster Balls were probably all fish. The Tiger Prawns and Fish Fillet were good. They brought us out a huge bowl of Water Cress, Napa and Spinach. The Napa was mostly small cores, no sliced up big leaves. The Spinach had a lot of stems, what I would consider filler. The Water Cress took up 1/2 the bowl. Considering that all AYCE places threaten to charge your for food waste, this would have been a perfect opportunity to fill up guests with inexpensive ingredients so they couldn't eat as much of the costlier items. But maybe I'm just a cynic. Once again, comparing it to our experience at the premium restaurant, while there were many items to make custom sauces to season our food, the quality was standard to sub-standard. They have paper menus and a pen that you use to check off all of the items you want like flavored soup base(s), meats, veggies, seafood etc... you can keep ordering as you consume what you've cooked. Unfortunately, we couldn't tell the different in the cuts of meat. They all kind of tasted the same. By the end of the meal, the soup stock was more flavored from all of the different meats and seafood we had cooked in it. I wish there were a little more pre-mixed sauces to try. They had a large amount of bottled sauces that you could add to their basic base sauces, so you never got the exact same good sauce when you ran out. With tax and tip it came to $42.50 each. We had three different hot pots that were split, so six different broths. It was $44 for each adult for the private room (All you can eat and drink), Like $19 for kids and my 3 year old was free. I just don't think I'm a fan of hot pot. I'd much rather go to Ramen or Udon. And the whole concept of sharing the pot with your table mates gives me the icks. Sure they're your friends or family for that matter but still the chopsticks are going in and out of their mouth and back in the broth. Here's hoping the broth is so hot that it burns off whatever icks they're sharing with you. The ordering process is easy. They give you a check list that you hand off to your server. We ordered baby boo choy, which was waaaaaaay too much. It came in a ginormous bowl and I was afraid we were going to get charged for wasting food b/c it was way more than 4 people can eat. The mushrooms were good, I only wish they were enoki. The tofu was a little funky for my liking, so we kind of hid it in the broth in the hopes they would g go unseen.We also ordered the brisket and the pork belly. The usual fair. They did have a few cooked food options. And what we thought would be kicked. The uncooked dumplings weren't very good. AS everyone has said the honey walnut prawns are worth it. The crab rangoon not so much. Drinks are all you can drink, and they've got some pretty good options for that. The ice cream is self serve but the quality of ice cream is very poor. I originally tried to go to the hotpot place across the street at 5:30 pm on a Sunday, but there was already an hour long wait, so we decided to give this place a try. It was empty when we arrived, but by 6:15 pm, it had filled up quickly. The interior has a traditional Chinese restaurant vibe, and they offer private karaoke rooms. The seating options include bench seats for 4 or round tables with two pots that accommodate 6-8 people. They have a solid selection of appetizers, cold dishes, and non-hotpot items. The honey-glazed prawns were a standout, essentially a walnut prawn without the walnuts. The prawns were lightly coated in honey mayo, crispy on the outside, and fresh on the inside with just the right amount of breading. I opted for the Tom Yum and Pepper Pig Stomach broths. The Tom Yum was decent but not very authentic, so I wouldn't choose it again. On the other hand, the Pepper Pig Stomach broth, which had pieces of chicken and pig stomach, was flavorful. While the meat selection was fairly limited, it was sufficient for the meal. I tried the beef slices (shoulder and prime), but they were a bit dry since there wasn't much marbling or fat. The broth was flavorful enough that I didn't need any dipping sauce. The lamb was a little too gamey for my taste, but I usually don't mind it. The fish and shrimp balls (both the standard and fresh ones you scoop yourself) were much better. The veggie selection was on the simpler side, with more common options, but the portions were huge and everything was fresh. Overall, this place is great value for money, especially with the all you can eat and drink option ($39 for adults, $35 for seniors). Beer, wine, champagne, soda, and juice are included. The service was fast, even when the place got busy. While the quality of the meat selection isn't top-tier (this isn't the place for Americab or A5 wagyu), the flavorful broth more than makes up for it. AYCE hot pot! This is my first time here with my family, we were a huge group so we book the karaoke room. It's a bit more expensive but you get a huge table in a private room with karaoke. There were tons of options from all kind of meat, seafood, to veggies. All you can drink as well, they have a refrigerator full of drinks that can you can grab yourself. I forgot if this was add on option. Everything that came to our table looked fresh and tasted good, also not to mention they have honey prawns here as well which is not something you see regularly at a hot pot place! Also baby octopus as well!! Had dinner here with a bunch of friends and was told to warm up the vocal cords because we'd be in a Karaoke room ... WITH AYCE hotpot! I was a little confused but apparently this is not all too uncommon in China and hey, why not transport that same concept to the U.S.? I just want to say that I wasn't there entirely for the karaoke but if it's part of the experience, count me in. We were assigned room #3. It was a full blown karaoke room with tiny laser dots dancing across the room (I was instinctively swatting the air all night long thinking there were gnats flying by my face) and a K-music box setup with predominately Chinese songs. Unfortunately, the room had a giant round table with cutouts for 4 hotpots. So if you were seated deep inside the booth, you're probably going to be asking for a lot of help getting this and that. A lazy Susan in the middle of the table would've been useful. I didn't do the ordering but you were allowed like 90 minutes to order but you had the room for 3 hours. The hotpot, proteins and veggies came fast and furious. I don't think we made more than 3 orders for food, and the 3rd one (cooked foods) never came. Just as well, we were stuffed. Overall, the food was very fresh, especially the meat items, were of very good quality. As expected, there was a station with a good selection of sauces for patrons to mix and concoct to their hearts content. Unexpectedly, a glass merchandiser fridge stocked with non-alcoholic beverages for self-serve, unlimited consumption. Alcohol is also included in the meu price but needed to be ordered through a staff. In addition, an ice cream station was available for self scooping. Overall, a nice experience (clean, efficient, and good quality) but the staff seemed uninterested in checking in once you receive your food. Oh and after awhile, it seemed like all the rooms were competing against each other to see who could crank their speakers the loudest and send their most drunk singers up to the mic. We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and because we had such a large party, we got one of the VIP rooms that had a huge circular table with 4 pot stoves and karaoke! - PARKING - Large parking lot shared with other businesses, no problem finding a spot! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The regular dining room has several tables if you're not planning on booking a VIP room, but it seemed pretty busy so I would make a reservation if possible! You place your food orders by marking off a paper sheet, and the attendants come by to fulfill your orders. There's a sauce bar that isn't as nicely laid out as some of the other hot pot restaurants I've been to, but it does get the job done with a pretty big selection of choices. They also have a fridge stocked with a variety of drinks, all also included! I thought it was an interesting placement, but there is ice cream at the front if your stomach still has space at the end. - FOOD - Karaoke VIP Room AYCE ($42.99): Our room had 4 pot stoves, and we ended up getting 3 half and half broths and then a half tonkotsu/half spicy miso for the 4th stove. I liked all of the broths for different reasons - glad we had a large party to try them all! I really liked the Prime Beef Slices and the Fatty Beef (Toro). Their Honey Prawns were also good! I was also surprised at how good their raw scallops were - no wonder they were a limited item! We went pretty wild on ordering as we were all so hungry, but do keep in mind they don't ask for quantity - you simply mark off the item on the menu you want and they end up bringing a tray of a random amount! We definitely had leftovers but were not charged for it - not sure if this is standard or if it was due to us booking the VIP room. The only qualms I had were that due to the size of the table, it was pretty hard reaching towards the center or anywhere past an arms length to grab - we ended up having to ask one another to pass things around. I also felt like there were a few songs missing in the karaoke selection that usually are found at other spots! - OVERALL - For what you get included and the quality of the food, the price is pretty good! The ambiance is casual and definitely very mom and pop Chinese restaurant energy. Service is great despite how packed they get. You just order on a sheet of paper & they give you how much according to how many people are in your party. The quality isn't great but I do love their honey walnut shrimp! read more
