Clean place and friendly staff with great sound system! As a Korean myself, I love Korean karaoke machine because it allows you to have more fun and flexibility with the key change, rhythm change (you can turn any song into an EDM). This was the nearest karaoke place we could find near San Mateo. We usually go karaoke in the South Bay where there are plenty of karaoke places. Located on somewhat of a busy street. There are only 2 parking spots at the back of the building.... so plan accordingly if you plan to come with a big group. I believe we paid $74 for an hour which isn't bad split between 9 people. They sell water and other beverages, and no outside food/drinks. Bathroom is clean, room was clean (but a bit outdated and so was the TV). The sound quality was okay, could be better. read more

Decided on a last minute, 2 days before, party for my teen daughter, and they were very very accommodating! Booked the VIP room, which is 18 people max, and the kids had a great time. They were shown how to use the system, and how to use You Tube for songs that are not on their system! Easy to use and they all had a blast. We ended up adding time to our reservation, as it was available thankfully! If you are unsure about size of room to get, just go with a bigger room, as it can get cramped if you are close to capacity size on whatever room you decide. Most of the time the adults walked out to allow the teens to really open up, as they were embarrassed with the adults in the room. Millbrae Karaoke house also lets you bring in outside food, which is great, just buy the drinks from them, which is more than fair. We will be back for sure! The workers were so nice! They had a small selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The music selection they had was pretty good as well. The one very small complaint I had was trying to hook up bluetooth for a song that wasn't on the list was a bit of a pain, and we never figured it out. Plenty of parking spot on the street. Place was clean, service was friendly. Other rooms were busy as well, but each room has good isolation sound, neighbors didn't bother us. We rented the place for two hours and ended up extending it to three with no problem. You can use their selection or connect your phone to their system as well. The owners of this establishment are 5 stars. A cute couple of Asian decent. Husband & wife. It's a quaint little karaoke spot off of a busy Main Street. We lucked out and found parking in front. Curbside. There's a selection of alcoholic beverages in a tall drink cooler near the front entrance as you enter. You tell one of the owners what you want and they bring it directly into your room for you. I didn't see any Soju, so I asked for it and sure enough they carried some in the back and brought it out to me and my fellow karaoke superstars. There were quite a few rooms available for several groups to enjoy karaoke in the comfort of private rooms. The rooms were clean and the books had plenty of song choices. I wish the books were in alphabetical order by artist, instead of a mix of songs to sort through until you find one you want to sing. The only thing I did not like was at the end of the night when we cashed out. Businesses need itemized receipts. This is not the first small business I've encountered where they just give you a copy of a receipt with general information (time, date, etc) and the Total Amount Due. If I'm getting charged $400 (party of 4) for a great time, I'd like to see the charges listed line by line on my copy of the receipt. Booked a room last minute. Lady was nice. Can't complain. It's pretty dark in here and the location said they were open but when we got there they said it was closed. They ended up letting us I don't know what the point was plus there was a language barrier, luckily I had friends who understood. Other than that the place was clean and everyone had a great time. To end a birthday celebration, a friend of mine wanted to go karaoke. We got to Millbrae Karaoke House on Saturday, May 18th around 10:30pm. We got a small room which was fine as there were only four of us. I didn't stay for very long, but the menu was easy to navigate and we picked the songs we wanted without much searching. (I know some systems can be confusing.) I was only here for about an hour (maybe less), so was able to sing a few songs. The bday boy was having fun, so that was all that mattered. The owners are very nice and the selection of songs is quite good! I've been here twice now with my friends and the price of the soda and snacks are very reasonable. The mics also sound very good! The system is in Korean, so it can be a bit confusing to navigate at times but it isn't too difficult after you get the hang of it. The overall experience was great for the price and very affordable! Fun simple time for a party of four!! The prices were actually pretty decent I believe it was $30 for four people, for one hour. The list of songs were pretty updated, but the funny thing was, there were a lot of old songs from the 80's-90's that you would normally find in a karaoke book that this place surprisingly didn't have. The room was pretty clean, not the best but decent! I appreciate the sanitary measures of having disposable covers for the microphone. No outside alcohol allowed! They do sell beer and soda/juice/water. Parking sucks at night! Primarily meter based parking. We parked a good 4 blocks away from the place because everything was packed. read more

Decided to come here on a Saturday night. I called in and they were able to accommodate my large party of such short notice. I even had to push the reservation out an hour and was able to without a problem. They have small snacks ( chips) that you can grab to eat while you are singing your hearts out. A good variety of drinks, my family was interested in grabbing soju but did not see this option in the fridge. Asked the owner and she was informed me they had soju. 10/10 would recommend. My family spend less than $300 before tip. This includes the two hours we spent singing, 5 bottles of soju, waters, trulys and snacks. Very affordable! Songs were up to date as well read more

If there's a song you want to sing but is not listed on the songbook, you can ask them to play it from youtube if you can find a karaoke version of it. Would come back again. FAMILY OWNED SPOTS are ALWAYS the best place to be. They're generous, giving, understanding, and always polite to customers. However,... Under the business of alcohol, you must be aware (you high school students) they're very strict about outside beverages being brought into the rooms. They will catch you, they will report you. And those scary signs warning you about outside beverages, they're posted so that YOU won't get into any trouble. They're not out to get anybody. However if you're at or over the legal age to drink, and that's not 'turning 20 in 3 months' you MUST clear it with the owner before bringing it in. So if you're looking for a karaoke bar, this is NOT the place. Try those ones in downtown San Francisco. So this is how things work here: 1) Karaoke rooms have their own price depending it's persons capacity. 2) From there, you will be paying hourly. Can't get any simpler than this, right? Water is provided for you as your room is being prepared for you and your friends, and there will be extra charge for sodas, coffee, juices and etc. YOU CAN make reservations :D The remote control which helps you look up the song you're looking for either by the title or the name of the singer is KOREAN. I know I shouldn't nationalize objects.. But there IS a little sticker captioning what each button means, or you can always call for help or you can look up the song in the book and push the number in manually. Songs are regularly updated, both Korean, Japanese, Chinese and American. If you are looking for foreign songs, they DO have a special catalog for that, so please ask about it. The rooms are cleaned (tables polished, garbage cans emptied) after each use, so overall the surroundings are kept very clean and refreshing. read more

I'm penning this review at the risk of reinforcing stereotypes about Filipinos and karaoke, haha. I met up with a handful of my younger cousins and family friends and one of my cousins reserved a room ahead of time. Most of the party ended up running late (hopefully this doesn't reinforce stereotypes about "Filipino time" either), but the couple who run this place were very gracious and accommodating. I'm not sure if that's how they always are or if it was just because the place was pretty dead on this particular Saturday evening. Either way, I appreciate their flexibility. The room had a wraparound couch toward the back, disco ball, two screens, a small stage area, two wired microphones, two tambourines, three sets of song books, and the remote control/keypad device where you could make song selections. At the start of our session, the ajumma walked us through how to do really basic things (e.g., select a song, queue up other songs, and delete a selection from the line-up) which was all we really needed. I do wish, however, that I asked her if there was a way to change the key a particular song played in. In terms of the breadth and depth of song selections, I'd say they do a decent job of trying to satisfy both. I was surprised that they had some classic Filipino standards ("Beautiful Girl" by Jose Mari Chan), one of my favorite Japanese songs ("Flavor of Life" by Utada Hikaru), new K-Pop songs, and a wide swath of songs in English, too. They organize songs by language and title rather than artist, but it wasn't impossible to find familiar songs to sing. It looks like they also try and stay current with the newer songs added toward the back of the books. They have snacks and a small selection of non-alcohol drinks and beers ($5/each) so consider grabbing a bite beforehand or immediately after. We booked the room for an hour, but ended up staying for an hour and a half. Again, I appreciate the fact that the owners weren't sticklers on time and allowed us to stay longer. I wish I snapped a photo of the rates, but I believe we had a large room for about 10 people and a kiddo under five and it ended up being around $7/person. Street parking can be hit/miss so I'd highly recommend carpooling! read more

The only karaoke place in the area, so they have a bit of a monopoly on the market. They charge $25/hour. My main issue was my friends and I arrived around 11:25pm on Friday night, and by the time they finished setting us up (aka getting the mics to work, etc), it was about 11:30pm. However, when we approached the front desk at 1:10am, they charged us for 2 hours aka $50. While it's only 15-20 minutes in consideration, at their $25/hour rate, I'd like to pay for what I actually used and not be rounded up. When I pointed out our exact arrival time, the lady at the front desk simply said "11:25pm to 1:10am, 2 hours" and then charged our card............. read more

If you reserve ahead of time, the owner may open their store a little earlier for you. They have English, Japanese, Korean and Pilipino songs. No Chinese and other languages. Finding the right song to sing was a bit challenge. Songs are mostly sorted by the song titles. The newer English songs; however, are listed at the back of the book (about 6 pages) and looks like randomly sorted. Beer, Soda and bottled water are available for purchase. You are not allowed to bring outside drinks, but you can bring your own food which is great! read more

Karaoke is a Japanese phenomenon, with Kara (empty) and the Jinglish Okesutura (orchestra) combining to make Karaoke, or empty orchestra. In Japan, this is pronounced like "Car ah Okay" or like "dude, my ride is uh, fine dude, chill out dude!". In America, it is commonly pronounced like you are giving an Okiahoman a ride, i.e. an Okie from Muskogee a lift, or "Carry Okie" This is perhaps because Americans had heard the term Carioca, the Brazilian-Portuguese term for a resident of Rio de Janiero, and popularized by a dance similar to the Samba, a couple of decades before the Japanese brought Walkmans, Sushi, and Karaoke machines to the US. In Japan, there is a long tradition going back to the Samurai days, of entertainment after dinner gatherings, to blow off steam and create social harmony. A Japanese entertainer named Inoue in the 1960's from Kobe, near where I was born, invented Karaoke, using cassette tapes with no voice to a background of music. Almost concurrently, a Filipino from Manila named Del Rosario also invented a karaoke like system, and we all know Filipinos love to sing! This became Karaoke machines, which first became popular in Japanese Bars, when businessmen would go out with clients and sing to create a personal bond through entertainment. I remember interviewing for a Japanese company decades ago that I knew beforehand, and the President invited me to sing Karaoke, to create a comfort level between us. How you handled singing in front of others was a measuring stick of your character. Are you shy? Do you have gusto? Do you have skills? Attention to detail? Are you socially deft and polite? Karaoke could indicate some of this. Karaoke bars became popular in the US, and then later died down, and morphed into what had become popular in Asia, the "Karaoke Box", which instead of singing in front of everyone in the bar, you could rent a room and sing and have fun with your friends, in private. Millbrae Karaoke is a Karaoke Box establishment, with several private rooms. It is Korean owned, and has songs in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Tagalog, etc. Their song books are sort by language and title, not by artist. A group of us came here after a Japanese Sake-filled birthday dinner, perfect prep for Karaoke. We had a larger room with a small stage platform, and a wrap around leopard print couch. There were 2 large TV monitors, 2 mics, and disco twinkle lights. We came here about 1am, and they are open until 2am, but may cheat a little longer for good guests. Color me not so impressed. Don't get me wrong, karaoke can be fun as long as you have the right people, but any place that doesn't have Baby Got Back on its playlist so going to induce my wrath a bit. Room was decent enough sized, and the sound system was pretty decent. They only serve beer, so if you want to get drunk while singing, it might take a lot. Price is also half way decent, but still a high for what it is. Still, it's a fun place to spend with good company, but I'm sure there are better locations in the Bay Area. read more

If you're from Millbrae and don't want to drive out to Sunset or Richmond to get your Karaoke fix, this place can certainly appease your appetite. Certainly not the fanciest karaoke spot but they do accommodate small to large parties. Do call in advance. Especially on the weekends or Friday's, if they have a room for your size party, as it can sometimes get busy with other locals who want their karaoke fix. As far as quality of the sound system and equipment. They definitely need an upgrade. The Mics are sometimes uneven in how much vocal production you can make on them and some cords are wrapped with tape on them. There are no back up vocals to help you for any song here, so if you want a challenge or want to hear your friends true talented singing vocals, come on down! They do update their songs from time to time, so don't de surprised if you see a song that's currently playing on the radio, although unlikely. This is your standard Korean norebang karaoke place for late night hours of fun singing and drinking in the comforts of a private room. Each room has a rotating disco ball with cheetah-like cushioned booth seats. The Korean remote control can be confusing, but you'll be fine with the English translation stickers or if you ask the hostess. Although the music selection is biased towards Korean music, you can still find the standard classics and favorites by the names of your favorite artists and songs in English and Japanese. The beverage selection is minimal, but it is sufficient. For a group of 7 to sing for 2 hours, it was about $70 or $10/person. Parking is tough on the street, but not impossible. read more

I came here for my friend's birthday last year (December 30, so not really that long ago). This place gets extra bonus points for a couple things I haven't seen at the...uh, 3 other karaoke places I've been to. #1: Light-up tambourines! #2: Mini-stage! #3: Disco ball lights! This is the first place+time where anyone has ever serenaded my butt, so that in itself holds some super-fun memories. There's also extra space up front if you want back up dancers while you sang, so we definitely utilized that as well. :P This may also be the first place I've ever been to that had "Before I Fall In Love," by Coco Lee, so I award even more brownie points. :D! They use the book method and the crazy random video backgrounds here. The song selection is pretty diverse, and they have a pretty extensive Chinese selection (there's also Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino + Spanish, if I recall correctly).
