I am always surprised by reviews from self entitled people who really travel as a symbol instead of the fun of travel. Why anyone focuses on a hotel room is beyond my understanding. My question for those people is how much time do you spend in your room instead of seeing the country you spent money to visit? Anyway, the location is great, close walk to the center of the city to see all the magnificent works of art. The hotel is right across from the river Arno with great views. The people who work there, from reception to bar to restaurants, are fantastic and willing to help. They speak multiple languages so conversing is easy. Definitely a place to stay again. read more

We stayed here for our second set of 3 nights on our Trafalgar tour of Italy. The location is about 15 minutes from city center which was less ideal than our two other hotels on the trip, which were in the heart of the action and much from preferable. However the location leads out into the Arno river which is a nice walking route into the city center. Unfortunately our room looked like it had been thrown together last minute. The finish wasn't cut to correct lengths and the inside of our door had no trim so we saw the wall stuffing. The room was also extremely small and we couldn't move around each other well at all. The breakfast was good, but not as good as the one we had in the grand hotel in Rome. read more

Nice hotel near the Fiume Arno river. Basically you walk across the bridge to other side of town. It located on the east side of attraction city. Walking distance to many place. I like about this hotel is they keep bicycles in the garage for rent and charge to the room the rate is acceptable. Many places in the Florence just need to bike to the destination. Don't need taxi. The hotel room is decent. They have two elevators that is convenient for the patron. But the elevator is too small in size. The breakfast is included in our stay that time. The breakfast is just ok. Not fancy. Not much of parking space except the garage of the hotel. Big bus is difficult to park here. Hotel room is clean and equipped a lot of outlets for charging. read more

Great Hotel!! They delivered on everything we could need and expect. Fabulous check in and out. The room was stocked and serviced very well. The front desk was always available, very friendly and was able to call in and get us a reservation to a Michelin Star restaurant we wanted to visit. The bar and other services were fabulous. Laundry service was great and they even put new pins in my collar. As far as hotels go they really covered all the bases, getting us reservations, taxi and shuttle services, laundry and we also had some items we purchased while shopping that when we got back were delivered to our room! The only down thing at all I can think of was a small tv . But who the hell cares. I did not come to Italy to watch TV For the $$$ OR (EURO SIGN) They sure delivered read more

Just arrived today and I am very pleased. The lobby is beautiful, clean lines, original art, and plenty of comfy seating. Our room was not ready, however, they stowed our luggage away and we set out exploring. Upon our return the room was ready (promptly at the time they promised). They are branding themselves "Future Hotel" and part of that is energy saving ideas - including "plugging in" your room key to activate the electricity. The bathroom is well appointed and has great lighting for makeup. I'll update more after we have breakfast tomorrow. Ciao read more

Large hotel in Florence part of our tour. Loved: - large room, quite nice and felt luxurious - pretty good buffet for dinner - a few blocks away from the city I'm not sure the price because it was included, but I think in Italy this was our favorite hotel (with the exception of Sorrento since that was seaside). We stayed here for two nights as part of a Trafalgar tour. The hotel lobby is nice, and the breakfast buffet includes the standard breakfast offerings you find across most hotels (sliced meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, croissants, etc.) It's about a 20 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio bridge. I'd give it a higher rating except that we very strangely had mosquitoes in our room that would buzz your ear at night and I got several bites. One person in our group had so many mosquitoes they had to be moved to a different room. Very strange. We were in a handicapped room with a shower with doors that didn't quite close so water did get all over the floor, creating a bit of a slipping hazard. The bed was quite firm, as were the pillows. read more

So, I was super scared to stay here with all the "if-fy" reviews. Alas, it really wasn't our choice; it was part of a package we purchased. We were quite pleased with our stay here. The room was impeccably clean and spacious. The bed was firm. We stayed on the first floor and had a balcony. The bathroom was spacious and clean. We didn't hear much noise from other rooms. We did however, hear lots of city traffic (car) noise during peak hours, but not as it gets into the evening, so light sleepers should be ok. We had an issue with the charging station they provide, notified them, and they came shortly after to troubleshoot and replace. The front desk staff were incredibly gracious. I have to say this because we wanted to book an excursion/tour the day we got there. The one lady we dealt with (sorry I didn't get her name) handed me several options and I kept having to go back to the desk at least 5 times to ask her a million questions. Not once did she roll her eyes or look like I was killing her. The room is a short walking distance to the Piazza Michelangelo. It's not in the main part of Florence, but most of Florence is easily walk-able, if not, then by bus, which are right around each corner of the hotel. Not much in terms of room service or food selection around the hotel, so don't expect to order in if you're tired. The breakfast (that was included) is the only thing that wasn't the best. They had two sets of breakfast areas (the one on the first floor seemed to be more high end versus the one we were given). They had great fresh juice, but everything else was very lackluster (a couple croissants, meat that looks like it was from the can, boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, eggs that looked like they were made from powder, tomatoes, beans, and bacon). Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will be back if we ever make it back to Florence. read more

I only give this place three stars because of the spacious well appointed lobby and outside area. Besides that it's not very good. We arrived at 2:30 and our rooms were not ready, but when we left checkout was by 9 a.m. Are they that short staffed that it takes more than five hours to clean rooms? Speaking of rooms, mine was the size of a postage stamp - barely bigger than a twin bed. The shower was the size of a phone booth and the door did not close which flooded the bathroom. And good luck finding your room if you are in the new wing. You need to take two separate elevators and wander around very poorly marked hallways. And the staff is a bit haughty. Having said all this, the place is clean and a good location. The rooms way finding are atrocious. read more

This hotel is HORRIBLE. I don't see how this could be considered a 4 star hotel. We get here and our room wasn't ready so we had to wait two hours in the lobby, no apology, no nothing. Just made us wait. After we got to our room our safe didn't work so we had to call reception 4 times and wait another two hours to get the maintenance guy to come fix it- only to then find that he couldn't fix it so they had to move us to another room. A room with tiny twin size beds, no view, a super small bathroom (with a dirty tub) and one in which the safe ALSO didn't work... so we had to wait another thirty minutes for the maintenance guy to come fix that as well. Basically, a horrible experience with no apology and no help. They have horrible customer service, DO NOT COME HERE! read more

Very nice and pretty hotel right near all of the attractions of Florence. We walked 20 mins tops to the main square from here. Very nice decor and the staff is friendly and attentive. We thought we were having an issue with our phone charger in our room and they quickly sent someone up to assist. The only reason why I didn't give all 5 stars is because I found the cleanliness lacking a tiny bit in our room. There seems to be stains of the sort which can be either chocolate or blood, not sure, on our tissue box in our bathroom and some parts of the bathroom and bedroom furniture seemed dusty. Other than that the complimentary breakfast has a nice selection of scrambled and hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, cereals, yogurt, breads, coffee, fruit and juices. Nice way to start our day without having to worry about where we were going to fuel for the day. Very nice job guys keep up the good work. read more

Every hotel you will come across in Italy will be small... don't expect it to be Vegas status. I think my room had more space than the hotels I've stayed at. Nonetheless, this hotel was one of the nicer hotels I've encountered during my trip. It actually had full on shower doors. The ones I've been to was just half and half (half of the shower was covered while the other half was open). Lobby was exceptionally spacious and had good architectural design to it. I believe they offered discount for guests if you ate at their local restaurant. Didn't get to use mine since we only stayed here for one night. They also have free wifi. :) read more

The hotel staff was friendly and they provided good quality service and were accommodating. The location was just about a 15-20 minute walk from the ponte vecchio. I arrive on train with my wife, we took a taxi to the hotel location for €13. The room are tiny but if you are in a vacation perfect size. The room require the door key to power the room, it did not seen to be a problem just don't leave your key, it will be gone the housekeeping takes the key to the front if you do leave it in your room. The have three places to eat, the American cafe, the restaurant Aron and the outside bistro. The wifi is strong fast and free, it is about 15 Mbps. Overall the hotels it's very good for tourist, to relax on a hotel that efforts relax and comfort. In Spanish El personal del hotel era amable y buena calidad servicio y eran complacientes. La ubicación era sólo de un 15-20 minutos a pie del ponte vecchio. Llegar en tren con mi esposa, tomamos un taxi a la ubicación del hotel de 13 euros. We stayed here for 2 nights during a 9 day trip to Italy and were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. At first we were unsure about this spot due to it's location, it is not directly in the center of all the action but is only a 10 minute walk to the Piazza Santa Croce. We made this walk along the river one night after dark to go to dinner and never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. Florence is a very walkable city so you really are not far from much staying at this location. The only downsides to the room was that the mattress was extremely firm, and the pillows are totally flat. Stop by the front desk and ask for a few extra pillows and you should be set. Rooms were simple and clean, small by US standards but definitely can be considered a good size for a hotel room in Europe. WiFi worked well and we never had an issue with it, even in our rooms. The only thing that we did not like was breakfast, it was hectic, disorganized, and the food was not very good. But it was enough to get the day started and get us through to lunch. Breakfast was the only meal we ate at the hotel, so I cannot comment on the on site dining. read more

When you are touring, location, location, location is a big consideration. Grand Hotel Mediteraneo is located within 10-15 minute walk to the center of Florence. It was perfect to sightsee without using a taxi. The hotel is also located across from a tree-lined park. Hotel staff is helpful. The buffet of variety of breakfast choices is fresh and well stocked, We asked for twin beds instead of one bed and found our room to be larger than others on the same floor ( 4th floor). The bathroom space is very tight. The bathtub/shower has a high side making it not all that easy to step into. The wifi worked well in the room and around the hotel. Large lobby and comfortable sofas to converse and have a few drinks. read more

Very nice hotel. First impression was it looked luxurious: considering the hotel decor, space and cleanliness. We were booked into the South Wing which was very confusing to get to. Signs posted were a bit vague on which hallway to turn into. Room was decent. Major points off not having working USB ports to charge our electronics! I managed to borrow a converter plug at the front desk and the plug was not working as well! I returned it and apparently they only have one (1)!!!!!!!. Big hotel with only 1 converter plug. Horrible hotel! Find somewhere else to stay. First day the shower was clogged and wouldn't drain. First guy to come up to look at it turned water on and off and said it was fine. I ran the water until it overflowed the bathroom to get them back up to fix. Then they weren't going to clean until we made them. Second day came back in the evening to go to bed, pulled back the sheets to find a large blood stain on them. What kind of quality hotel puts stained sheets on a guest bed?!! Then we had to wait 1 hr 15 minutes to get housekeeping to bring sheets and they just brought a top sheet...not to replace the whole contaminated bedding. And, didn't change them for us just handed them over for us to do it ourselves! Seriously! The beds are hard as marble slabs and pillows one per person are flat! The breakfast is terrible too but that was the least of my worries. Nice lobby but it's a facade for all that is horribly wrong with this establishment that is falling apart. Others in our group had issues with the door not opening and lights flickering. So if you have the option outside of a tour group, go somewhere else! read more

We just returned from a trip to Italy. We stayed in a few different places and this one was the worst. The dinner buffet was just ok. They did not refill food when they ran out. The staff rarely smiled at guests. We also were kept awake at night by the noisy staff moving tables! Our complaints fell on deaf ears. The next morning, we were told the staff got into the wine and whiskey while moving furniture!! The free wifi only worked in the lobby!! read more

This is a truly awful hotel. Think One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, without the crazy people -- until the place drives you nuts. The decor of a YMCA, the service of the US Post Office, coffee from the Soviet Union era, it is perhaps the worst place (for the EU 200) I have ever stayed. Two details to give you a flavor of the awfulness: (1) Breakfast: Worst. Coffee. Ever. Served from a single machine that you have to line up for. Single cup servings. Except if you order espresso from a waiter. Assuming you can find a waiter. No edible fruit. Zero. (Except the stuff soaked in sugar water). They did have a tray of fruit displayed, but more as a "eat me and you'll die" exhibit. (I've uploaded a picture below). (2) Internet: This was so bad as to be comical. A 20 meg limit for EU 20. Slow -- bytes per second speeds -- and unreliable. But the best part: To get an account, they have to deliver a slip of paper with the password and username to your room. "Um, you're delivering paper to give me access to the Internet?" "It is our way." Whatever. Don't make the mistake of coming here. You didn't fly thousands of miles to stay in a gym. read more

Were this not the hotel where the convention we're attending is taking place, we would not have chosen to stay here. On the plus side: Excellent air conditioning (It's been 90+ all week). Good water pressure in the shower. Nice breakfast buffet, coffee machine weirdness aside. Not so much: It's a 20 minute walk to anything you want to go to. A few of the staff care, but too many of the desk staff seem to be phoning it in. The wifi is really, really bad. It supposedly will be improved sometime in the next month. The pillows are inexcusable. Flatter than pancakes. I asked for new pillows - fluffy pillows - and received two more of the sad, flat, foam blocks that they pass off for pillows. The hotel specializes in large tour groups, with the attendant noise, chaos, and large groups of clueless people blocking the lobby. read more

If I could rate this zero stars I would. Me and my cousin went on a school trip to Italy and she left her purse in the hotel room INSIDE of a cubby closed. She comes back and the contents inside of her purse are gone! The only people inside the room when we were out were the staff. We went to report it at the front desk and no one did anything or even looked remotely concerned. I am appalled at the disrespect and I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. We went during spring break in April and ended up getting over 100 euros stolen from us in the safety of our own hotel room. Changes NEED to be made. Sono incredibilmente sconvolto. One of the worst hotels I've stayed at because the customer service of staff is incredibly rude. We booked a 5 night stay for our honeymoon. The first placed us in the wing of the rooms 601-607. 603 was first and there was an awful smell coming from the room. Most likely the carpet because it is so old and abused. In their defense they are in the process of renovating the hotel piece by piece but they placed us in the area that hadn't been renovated and it was awful. They moved us then to 604 and then 607. All awful smelling rooms with terrible decor. If you have indoor allergies make sure to stay away. Finally they got the point that the wing of that floor smelled awful, which was difficult to get across because they insisted on denying that it was a bad smell. The smell was that of a gym that doesn't have air conditioning, on a hot humid day, after everyone's sweat was left behind on all the machines, that is trying to be concealed with cleaning product. It's not nice. They finally moved us to one of the renovated modern rooms that we were initially very content with. We spent our first night there and then saw all the dead bugs (ants and ants with wings) in front of the terrace. By in front of the terrace, I mean in front of the entrance to the terrace. On our side. Inside our room. Aside from that, as we were settling in we tried to pull out the drawer and it fell off. We tried to use the wall mounted soap dispenser and it fell off. We tried to use the safe and it didn't work. This was important to us as we were in Europe for 12 days and had a decent amount of cash we did not want to walk around with. Plus our stay in the hotel was for 5 nights. You'd figure we be important guests to them but def not the case. They didn't want to move us at all initially and they were very difficult to deal with. Finally got an amazing person who actually thought that the issues we had were actually issues! She moved us back to a room on the 6th floor that actually did not have carpet and with a great view, but still dated and with really old decor but it worked out. For a 4 star hotel with mostly rude staff that likes to think the problems in the rooms are your problem and not their problem, this is definitely not a place worth checking out. If you can, stay away. Barbara ( the nice one who helped us) alone can't save this hotel. So many people need to be retrained or fired from the bottom up and the place needs an immense amount of consulting from hotels like the ritz. It's supposed to be a 4 star hotel but it barely qualifies as a 3 because of the staff and that it is not finished. Soooo much potential though. Needs better management. read more
